Mercedes-Benz USA Reports All-time Best April Sales Of 29,236

 
ATLANTA, May 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported best-ever April sales with 29,236 vehicles sold, up 0.2% for the month. Vans reported 2,589 units, and smart reported 466 units for the month, bringing MBUSA grand total to 32,291 vehicles for the month and 116,600 sold year-to-date.
 
"We are heading into a strong second-quarter with a minimum of nine new model launches in the months ahead," said Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA. "We expect to see strong sales momentum as we move into the summer months."
 
Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in April included the C-Class, E-Class and GLC model lines. The C-Class took the lead at 5,645, followed by the E-Class (includes CLS) at 4,882. The GLC rounded out the top three with 4,439 units sold.
 
Mercedes-AMG high-performance models sold 1,967 units in April, up 75.8% from last year (1,119).
 
Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded sales of 10,054, up 7.3% from the 9,367 units sold the same month last year. On a year-to-date basis, MBCPO sold 39,357 vehicles, an increase of 4.1%.

I have thought for a while a twin turbo V6 S-class at $8,000 would help steal sales off teh A8 and 7-series.  That big sedan segment is shrinking, they shouldshoot to drive the competition out.  They did the V6 with the SL.

 

The E-class/CLS is back up, while all the others in that segment are down.   C-class had a huge year last year, but I am a little surprised it is struggling this year, yes crossovers are hot, but they should still be able to hit 6,000 a month, if the 3/4 series can do over 10,000.

I just realized the bottom feeder 'GLA' sound like it should slot between the 'GL' & 'GLS'.

So little rhyme or reason to the Daimler model naming system.

So far, the crossovers are barely holding the line against the steep slide in car sales.

No rhyme or reason to A-class is A segment, C-class is C segment and E-class is D/E segment?  Pretty straight forward.  Sedan sales are down at every brand, the E-class might save their sedan sales with the new model, the growth is in the crossover line.

Consumers have no idea what 'C segment is or means.

All they understand is; more letters equal higher models, IE; GL > GLA > GLS. THAT, at least, makes sense on paper.

Good thing they don't sell a GL anymore then.

 

This was Mercedes best April ever, and they have been selling cars since 1886 when they invented cars.  In 130 Aprils of selling cars, this past month surpassed them all.  Quite an achievement to have a 130 year history and be at the top of your game.

Good thing it isn't too reliant on volume because Smart has no business being sold in this country since clearly nobody wants them. CAFE or not, that POS is inexcusable.

Weird enough, there's one asshole in my town who has one. I hate that car so damn much. Spend like 13-15k on a Smart? Why not go to a Chevy or Ford dealer and pick up a Fiesta, Sonic, or Spark?!?!?

There is no GL anymore though. All SUVs as GL(A, C, E, S - to correspond to their car counterpart) and cars are.. uhh.. C, E,..oh yeah alphabetic order..lol

Manual trans - 32/39/35(city/highway/combined)

Auto trans - 34/39/36

 

Ford Fiesta 1.0:

32/45

 

Chevy Spark:

30/41

 

Nissan Versa:

31/40

 

Nissan Sentra:

30/40

 

Chevy Sonic:

29/40

 

An Altima will get 39mpg highway! That's only 3 automakers. And the Sonic, Spark, Versa, Fiesta all start cheaper than a Smart car and the Sentra starts at 16k and change. The Smart car is a joke.

Oh I agree 100%. I get their purpose in Europe but when larger Civics and Corollas are killing them in MPGs and cars like the Sonic and Fiesta being much better looking AND larger as well, I cannot fathom why anyone would choose a Smart. On top of that, they are horribly unreliable. Only Fiat has a worse reputation in that department.

OK, was only going on the above charts- not sure very many people are at all up on the 88 alpha-numerics of MBs out there.

Oh I doubt many out side of us crazies that know what the deal is with them. I tried to explain to the gf the new system and she just didn't get it or why they are doing it. 

 

I understand and like the tweak but not everybody will, and I understand that view as well.
