Herndon, VA (March 3, 2014) — Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) today reported 27,112 units delivered in February.

“February was an expectedly modest month with the wind down of outgoing models and the fewest number of selling days,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America. “Nonetheless, we are pleased to see our core vehicles and TDI Clean Diesels continue to show strength in the market. With a full range of fuel-efficient vehicles, seven of which deliver more than 40 mpg on the highway, we anticipate steady demand as we enter the spring selling season.“

Total Jetta deliveries (including SportWagen) for February accounted for 11,908 units. The Jetta recently received a number of changes for the 2014 model year, including the adoption of a new, 1.8-liter TSI® turbocharged and direct-injection EA888 engine. Equipped with the available new, direct-injected, turbocharged engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, the Jetta 1.8T achieves an EPA estimated fuel economy figure of 36 mpg on the highway, an improvement of five mpg compared with the previous 2.5-liter engine.

The Chattanooga-built Passat deliveries totaled 6,997 units delivered for the month. In February the Passat TDI, the only clean diesel in the midsize sedan segment, delivered 1,696 clean diesels. The 2014 model also received Volkswagen’s new 1.8-liter TSI engine, which offers 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The manual transmission model achieves an EPA estimated fuel economy figure of 24 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, an improvement of 3 mpg over the outgoing 2.5-liter engine’s highway figure.
