Thor Trucks, Able to deliver before Tesla? From the skunks work world of downtown L.A. comes the latest electrical truck start up. Thor Truck is the latest darling that has probably one of the best chances to actually deliver and put considerable pressure on Paccar, owner of Kenworth and Peterbilt, Mac, Volvo, White and many others that build for the class 8 market. Thor Truck introduced just before Xmas their ET-One Class 8 Semi delivering the following details: Top Speed of 70 mph hauling it's maximum capacity Maximum capacity of 80,000 lbs per trailer load 4,700 pound-feet of torque at zero rpm Battery rang of up to 300 miles 60 % cheaper maintenance cost 70 % cheaper fuel cost 100 % fewer emissions from the actual driven truck 90 minute depletion to full charge time 22 inch dashboard touchscreen 100 mile range version starts at $150,000 300 mile range version starts at $250,000 According to the CEO and company founder Dakota Semler, who praised his staff and posted the following on his blog: “We wanted to show the world that you don’t have to be a big original equipment manufacturer, like a Ford or GM, or a tech mogul with deep pockets to start making progress in this space,” wrote Semler. “With no outside funding, we assembled a team of experienced, gutsy, and passionate engineers and went to work researching and designing the ET-One in-house.” Thor Truck has stated production will begin in 2019 and pre-ordering will open soon for their local short range inner city truck, for now, they have done something that Tesla has not. They have invited fleet operators around the US to participate in a limited fleet demonstrations of their modest fleet of semi's using them in real world use. Thor has set up an FAQ site for answering most of the questions one would ask such as service, warranty, powertrain, dealerships, battery, charging and so much more. Thor Truck Web Site

Tesla Semi starting off with a Bang, Can Tesla Deliver? Tesla in the last week has gone from zero to hero in regards to helping companies that have fleets of semi trucks potentially reduce their carbon footprint. Anheuser-Busch started off with pre-ordering 40 of the Semi's. This was then followed by Sysco ordering 50 themselves. This week we now hear that PepsiCo has placed an order for 100 EV Semi's. Story is all the same, reduce costs of maintenance and fuel plus adding silence into their night / early morning deliveries. Sysco being one of the largest food delivery companies along with Bud's order places it at $13.5 million in semi value. PepsiCo adds another $15 million so a total of $28.5 million. Then Wal-Mart places an order for 15 of the trucks for testing with a price of $2.25 million. DHL has also ordered 10 of the Semi's for testing in the US market so another $1.5 . J.B. Hunt and Ryder truck hauling lease companies have also placed large orders they say but have declined to say how many at this time for EV Semis. This brings in the last 2 weeks since the semi's introduction about 200 pre-orders of the trucks or about $30 million book value with an unknown amount from two of the biggest leasing truck companies. PepsiCo has 10,000 semi's alone on the roads of North America and has a goal to reduce greenhouse gas production on the road by 30% by 2030. Seems it could be even more trucks to be ordered to help them achieve this number. Over all, Tesla has had some game changing ideas, yet with the Tesla 3 mess of building the cars, one does have to wonder if Tesla can deliver and get these trucks to market by 2019. It seems that this has been good for Tesla stock as the more truck orders being placed has continued to push up the stock price. https://binged.it/2BXGYSp Story References Autoblog story Reuters Story Wall Street Journal Story Car Freaks Story

Tesla Unveils Tesla Semi Truck and Roadster 2.0 Tesla did a full unveiling of their Tesla Semi last night, showing what the Power of Electric Powertrains brings to the Big Rig World. With a center seating position for superior visibility, a Frunk on the truck and two passenger seats behind the driver, you have a Semi that can achieve 0 to 60 in 5 seconds for the Cab versus 15 seconds for a traditional Diesel cab. Under full load of 80,000 lbs, Tesla Semi can go 0 to 60 in 20 seconds compared to a Diesel Semi at almost 40 seconds. The Tesla Semi shows why electrification is the future as the same Diesel truck, 80,000 lbs cannot hold more than 45 MPH on a 5% grade hill. Tesla Semi can maintain a 65 MPH up the full 5% grade hill. Tesla also anounced that their trucks will have two options, 300 mile battery pack and a 500 mile battery pack. Most Semi's travel no more than 250 miles a day making the Tesla Semi the quietest and best solution for inner city deliveries as well as inner state transportation. Allowing for deliver and return to the hub with no charging needed during the trip. The Cab also has adjustable wings, this being the back section of the cab to handle all types of trailers old and new. Tesla Trailer is totally flat with superior storage capacity under the traditional trailer maximizing airflow around the whole truck, giving it a coefficient equal to a Bullet. Diesel Trucks have a Cd of 0.65 to 0.70, Bugatti Chiron has a 0.38 and the Tesla Semi is 0.36 Cd. The truck has autopilot and a 1 million mile warranty for the powertrain. Cost of the truck is recouped in 2 years compared to a Diesel cost including fuel and maintenance. Tesla put together the following operating costs: 100 mile route (A-B-A) 60 mph average speed with 80,000 lbs. GVW, $2.50 per gallon Diesel or 7 cents per kWh electricity price. Diesel truck is $1.51 per mile. Tesla truck is $1.26 per mile. They also compare it to rail transportation when you do a Tesla Semi convoy, they beat rail in price per mile. This is all attained with four independent electric motors and can be driven by anyone with a normal auto license since there is no gears. Check out the video below for full views of the inside and out of the Semi. Surprise announcement was the all new Roadster 2.0 This is what I would call sex on wheels, Tesla has really improved and delivered a fast 2 door sports car that anyone can enjoy. Tesla Roadster 2.0 Specification 0-60 1.9 seconds, 0 - 100 4.2 seconds with a quarter mile of 8.9 seconds certified and a 250+ MPH top speed. You get 3 motors, 200 kWh battery pack (620 miles) and 10,000 nm Torque (7,376 lb-ft) in a 2+2 configuration even though Musk does admit that you would not put people in the rear seat. Production 2020, taking pre orders now.
