Audi has unveiled their updated Audi Q7 in Ingolstadt today. The new Q7 gets a more robust look with an even larger grille than before, but overall retains the same basic shape. The headlights can be optionally equipped with HD Matrix LED and Audi laser light. Many improvements went into the suspension. Now available as an option is active roll stabilization to reduce the cars tendency to roll into the curve. Adjustable stabilizers reduce body movement on uneven roads. Customers can also elect the S-Line option that offers a firmer suspension and a 0.6 inch lower ride height. The powertrain at launch in the EU will be a choice of two diesel units, with a gasoline engine and a plug-in hybrid to follow later. All of the ICE engines get a mild-hybrid setup using a belt-alternator-start (BAS) and 48 volt electrical system. The BAS can recover up to 8kW of power into the battery. The Q7 can be ordered in either a five or seven seat configuration. The cockpit is fully digital and includes two large touchscreens for the MMI infotainment system. Adaptive cruise assist is standard and also includes traffic jam assist, active lane assist, and adaptive speed assist. Emergency assist is new to the Q7 and if it detects the drivers is inactive, the system will bring the car to a stop and initiate protective and rescue measures. The 2020 Q7 launches in Europe in September with a US launch to follow later.

The only Audi crossover that has the vaunted RS badge is the Q3, but that is going changing in the near future. Speaking with Car and Driver, Audi Sport boss Stephan Winkelmann said there would be more RS-badged crossovers in the near future. “We don’t have a big lineup. The right cars means having them in segments that are growing, and also segments that are equally distributed in the regions of the world. Therefore a CUV shift is due; we are working on it, and you will see it coming.” Sources have previously said that the Q7 and upcoming Q8 will get the RS treatment. There is also the possibility of an RS Q5. One item you will not see under the hood of any RS crossover is a diesel engine. "If I have to put money down for an investment which has to make a return worldwide, then diesel will never be the priority,” said Winkelmann. Source: Car and Driver

It was thought that the 3.0L TDI V6 used primarily in Audi vehicles (along with the Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg) would not have to be bought back unlike the 2.0L TDI four-cylinder. But this might not be the case for a select group of vehicles. German newspaper Der Spiegel reports that Audi could buy back 25,000 vehicles - older Q7 SUVs - because these vehicles cannot be fixed and will need to be bought back. This comes from preliminary discussions between Audi U.S. authorities about a possible fix for the engine. "We are working hard with U.S. regulators to reach an agreement an approved resolution for affected 3.0-liter V-6 TDI vehicles and thank our customers for their continued patience. The Court has scheduled a status conference for November 3, 2016 to discuss the matter further," said Audi in a statement to Automotive News. Revealed: Audi Q7
Drew Dowdell posted an article in North American International Autoshow (NAIAS-Detroit)
Early this morning, pictures of the upcoming Audi Q7 leaked out ahead of its scheduled reveal. A few hours later, the official release came from Audi. The big new for the Q7 is a 716 lb reduction in weight. Starting at 4,398 lbs, Audi's biggest crossover takes the title of lightest in its class. The Q7 achieves this with a multi-material body composed of both aluminum and ultra high strength steel components. Overall, the exterior size is smaller in both length and width, cabin space is larger. Powertrains for the US will include a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder producing 252 hp / 272 lb-ft, a 3.0 liter turbocharged gasoline V6 producing 333 hp and 324 lb-ft, and a 3.0 liter V6 turbo-diesel producing 272 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. Later, a second detuned version of the 3.0 TDI will be released with a turn towards high mpg efficiency. All engines will be mated to a brand new 8-speed automatic sending power through a revised Quattro all-wheel drive system. Inside, the Q7 gains a host of new technologies, including optional 10.1" Android tablets built into the car as rear seat monitors. These tablets connect to the MMI navigation system and available on-board LTE Wifi. The tablets have a full HD camera, 32gb of storage, bluetooth and NFC. The entertainment system features a new smartphone interface. If either an iOS or Android device is connected to the car via USB, the respective system is opened in in the Audi Smartphone interface. (minimum device OS versions are required) The voice control system now uses natural speech control so drivers are no longer limited to specific commands. If a customer orders the Tour package, an optional addition to the adaptive cruise control is traffic jam assistant. In this mode, the Q7 will take care of all of the driving at speeds below 37mph and while in heavy congestion. Q7 sales have been increasing steadily over the last few years with sales up 21% verse this period last year after a 41% increase in 2013, but Audi still has a way to go before catching up to segment leader Mercedes. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 17, 2013 What do the Honda Civic, Chevrolet Malibu, and upcoming Audi Q7 have in common? All of them have undergone an emergency redesign. Motor Trend reports that Audi has ordered a emergency redesign on the next Q7. The original design was described as being "Too Brutal and Ostentatious"and was negatively received. This is possibly one of the reasons that former head of product development at Audi, Wolfgang Dürheimer was pushed out. The cost of this emergency redesign? $260 million and being pushed back a year. November 19th, 2012 Drew Dowdell Managing Editor - CheersandGears.com Ahead of the 2012 LA Auto show Audi is releasing news of four new TDI clean diesels bound for the U.S. Starting in spring of 2013, Audi will first introduce the TDI in the A8 flagship luxury sedan. Preliminary estimates put the A8 3.0 V6 TDI's fuel economy at 24mpg city and 36mpg highway while the 240 horsepower and a stump ripping 406 lb-ft of torque allow the 4300+ lb. sedan sprint to 60 in about 6.4 seconds. Following along in fall of 2013, the A7, A6, Q5 will join in on the diesel fun using the same 3.0 V6 TDI as the A8. While BMW is only rumored to be planning diesel availability across much of the rest of their lineup, Audi has gone ahead and beat them to an actual product announcement. We're okay with that, because in the end it means more diesels for everyone.
