  1. According to RivianForums.com, Electric vehicle startup Rivian has filed for a patent on an innovative new reconfigurable bed system for the Rivian R1T pickup truck. The system is comprised of different moduals that can be swapped out depending on what use the owner has in mind. Users would be able to choose from a flatbed, a cargo bed, a bed with side rails, and a couple of bed cap options. The bed system shows off one of the advantages of the skateboard style platform that underpins the R1T and Rivian R1S. The truck will be able to detect which module is installed and adjust things like suspension dampening, ride height, and braking to best match the new configuration. This is the second patent filing for Rivian that involves modularity. The first was a removable truck bed auxiliary battery to extend the driving range of the vehicle. September 26th, 2013 Drew Dowdell Managing Editor - CheersandGears.com Patent Drawings published on September 19th reveal that General Motors has filed a patent for a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission. While there has been talk about a conventional GM 8-Speed automatic for a while, a 7-Speed DCT could give GM an upmarket transmission to offer in premium products from Cadillac or the Chevrolet Corvette. At the moment, the 2014 Corvette Stingray will be shipping with a 6-speed auto when the buyer opts not to row his own, leading us to believe that this 7-Speed DCT could be offered in the Corvette in the future. We also speculate that with a couple of V-series Cadillacs on the way, the timing could be right for an introduction in one of them. Update: A reader points out that the output shaft in the above drawing is offset to the side of the transmission (label 16). This means it is highly unlikely that this is a rear wheel drive transmission, but instead is a front wheel drive, transversely mounted transmission. Car & Driver uncovered some images of is purported to be the new Acura RLX. And, we’re kind of hoping this isn’t the production model. The images show the RLX getting a new front end that is very reminiscent of the current TL and ILX. The side and back is a choose-your-own design book, ranging from a a Lexus GS to a Chevrolet Cruze.
