Local News reporting 1.4 Million BMW Auto's Recalled for Fire.
According to the local news, BMW anounced today that they are recalling 1.4 million cars and cuv/suv's in America due to potential fire and that all owners should leave them outside till the repair is done.
740,000 cover the following models 328i, 328xi, 328i xDrive, 525i, 525xi, 528i, 528xi, 530i, 530xi, X3 3.0si, X3 xDrive30i, X5 xDrive30i, Z4 3.0i, Z4 3.0si, Z4 sDrive30i these auto's being from 2007 to 2011. 128i from 2008-2011 also included. Stated all are the V6 models.
673,000 covers the following models 323i, 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi and M3 from 2006 to 2011. 328i xDrive, 335i xDrive and 335is for 2007 to 2011. 335d for 2009 to 2011.
The problem is that underrated wiring according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration used on the AC and Heater systems can overheat, causing the connectors to melts and start the auto on fire even when the auto is unattended.
BMW has agreed to have their dealers replace the wiring and connectors free of charge.
BMW says out of concern for their customers and in an abundance of caution they will implement the NHTSA recommended recall.
Have to say, if this is a problem here in the US, what about the rest of their auto's around the world. Sounds like some serious shortcuts for profits.
