Jaguar has decided to go bat-sh*t crazy in the high-performance compact sedan marketplace with the launch of the XE SV Project 8. It begins with a supercharged 5.0L V8 engine with 592 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque - making this the most powerful Jaguar road car to date. This is paired up with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. 0-60 mph is said to take 3.3 seconds and it will hit a top speed of 200 mph. Various body panels such as the front fenders, bumper, and hood are made out of carbon fiber. The fenders has also been widen to make room for meatier tires - 265-mm wide tires up front and 305-mm wide tires in the back. The front splitter and large rear wing are adjustable. Under the skin, Jaguar has added stiffer springs, adjustable shocks, and a set of large carbon-ceramic brakes. The interior has undergone some major changes with new front bucket seats featuring magnesium frames, sculpted rear seats, acres of Alcantara and carbon fiber, and the gear-lever from the F-Type. Europeans can option a Track Pack that removes the back seat for a rollcage; carbon fiber front seats with four-point harnesses, and a fire extinguisher system. A new report from Auto Express says Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) is putting the finishing touches on high-performance XE to take on the likes of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, BMW M3, and Mercedes-AMG C63. The XE SVR will boast Jaguar's 5.0L supercharged V8 engine with around 500 horsepower. This will be hooked up with an eight-speed automatic. The current SVR lineup - F-Type and Range Rover Sport - utilize all-wheel drive and there is the possibility the XE SVR could go down this route. There has also been some work done on the chassis with new springs, dampers, and a limited-slip rear differential. Expect a more aggressive exterior look to go with the mechanical changes. Auto Express says the XE SVR "will arrive almost halfway through the saloon’s lifecycle," leading us to believe it could be next year or so. Source: Auto Express

While North America has to wait till next spring for the Jaguar XE to come, Jaguar has detailed some of the specs for North American-Spec XE. First off, lets talk about engines. The base will be XE 20d which will feature Jaguar's new Ingenium turbocharged 2.0L diesel four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque. Jaguar quotes a 0-60 MPH time of 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 140 MPH. Then there is the XE 35t which features a 3.0L Supercharged V6 with 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. 0-60 MPH takes 4.9 seconds and is limited to 155 MPH. No matter which engine you choose, a ZF eight-speed automatic will be the only transmission. Rear-wheel drive will come standard, while all-wheel drive is an option. There will be three levels on offer - Premium, Prestige, and R-Sport - along with Jaguar's new InControl infotainment system. Pricing will be announced closer to the U.S. launch. The long wait is almost over as Jaguar finally unveiled the new 2016 XE, its threat to the likes hreat to the likes of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. You can tell the XE is very much a Jaguar in its design. The front end is adorned with the rectangular grille, angled headlights, and long hood that are seen on the XF. The side profile features a sloping roofline and fender vents. The short rear end and wheels pushed to the far corners help give the XE a athletic pose. Jaguar says the XE's body has a drag coefficient of 0.26 cd. The XE's interior looks to be taking some ideas from the F-Type. The gauge cluster features two analog gauges sit on either side of a color screen. Jaguar's new InControl infotainment system sits prominently in the center stack, while a rotary shift knob handles gear selection. Jaguar has only released information on one engine for the XE. The supercharged 3.0L V6 which powers a number of Jaguar vehicles produces 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This is paired to a eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine is standard on the XE S model and can hit 60 MPH in 5.5 seconds. Expect more information on other engines to come later on. The XE will ride on a a largely aluminum chassis with a double-wishbone front suspension. Steering will come in the form of a electric-power system, a first for the automaker. Now time for the bad news. We won't see the XE till 2016 as a 2017 model. So we'll be waiting a while for Jaguar's entrant in the compact luxury battle. The long wait is almost over as Jaguar finally unveiled the new 2016 XE, its threat to the likes hreat to the likes of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. You can tell the XE is very much a Jaguar in its design. The front end is adorned with the rectangular grille, angled headlights, and long hood that are seen on the XF. The side profile features a sloping roofline and fender vents. The short rear end and wheels pushed to the far corners help give the XE a athletic pose. Jaguar says the XE's body has a drag coefficient of 0.26 cd. The XE's interior looks to be taking some ideas from the F-Type. The gauge cluster features two analog gauges sit on either side of a color screen. Jaguar's new InControl infotainment system sits prominently in the center stack, while a rotary shift knob handles gear selection. Jaguar has only released information on one engine for the XE. The supercharged 3.0L V6 which powers a number of Jaguar vehicles produces 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This is paired to a eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine is standard on the XE S model and can hit 60 MPH in 5.5 seconds. Expect more information on other engines to come later on. The XE will ride on a a largely aluminum chassis with a double-wishbone front suspension. Steering will come in the form of a electric-power system, a first for the automaker. By providing lateral and longitudinal stiffness, the Integral Link delivers sharp response and handling while retaining a refined, luxurious ride. Many components of the Integral Link suspension are made from forged or hollow-cast aluminum. Front suspension Mounted to a subframe with cast aluminum suspension towers, the double wishbone of the front suspension on the XE delivers exceptional handling and road holding. The advanced design is based on the F-TYPE sports car. This design ensures the XE enjoys a similar level of agility and ‘connected’ steering feel. Like the rear suspension, components are made from cast and forged aluminum. New Electric Power Assisted Steering Jaguar is renowned for its steering feel and this will carry on with the XE. The XE becomes the first Jaguar vehicle to be equipped with the latest generation Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS). Electric Power Assisted Steering allows a much greater scope for tuning than hydraulic-based systems. Benefits include excellent steering feel, variable steering damping, ease of low-speed maneuvering and the ability to adapt to Jaguar Drive Control settings. EPAS also enables a range of Driver Aid features. All Surface Progress Control Even with the best traction control, rear-wheel drive cars can experience a sub-optimal start on very slippery surfaces. For that reason, Jaguar has developed All Surface Progress Control (ASPC). Developed from decades of Jaguar Land Rover experience in off-road traction systems, ASPC can electronically modulate traction with greater precision than a human driver can achieve.
