The effects of the on-going trade spat between the U.S. and China are beginning to be felt. According to Reuters, BMW is increasing the pricing on the U.S.-built X5 and X6 crossovers for the Chinese market. In a statement, BMW said the price increases will range from four to seven percent. This will only make a small dent in the 40 percent tariff being slapped on U.S. made vehicles entering China. BMW will be absorbing the remainder of the tariff for the time being. “BMW stands for free (trade) but can’t stand still without taking actions to respond to the market changes,” said a BMW spokeswoman. The German automaker isn't the only one to raise prices on vehicles destined to China. Reuters has learned from dealers that Mercedes-Bena has raised the price of the GLE-Class, which is built in Alabama. Source: Reuters View full article

Rumorpile: BMW To Show Off The X4 At The Detroit Auto Show Next Year?
William Maley posted an article in BMW
William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 12, 2012 I'm sure all of us were thinking, "You know what would make BMW's lineup perfect? A smaller X6." Well as we have been reporting for the past year, BMW has been working on a smaller X6, tentatively called the X4. According to Autoweek, BMW could be showing the new X4 at next year's Detroit Auto Show. The X4 would carry the same coupe-like styling as the X6, while using the X3's platform as a base. The engine lineup will be similar to X3 with four- and six-cylinder engines. There is also talk of a X4 M in the works. Source: Autoweek William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. G. David Felt Alternative Fuels & Propulsion writer www.CheersandGears.com Reading this on Motor Trend and I have to ask when will this ugly CUV Coupe fad end? http://wot.motortrend.com/1412_bmw_x6_fighting_mercedes_gle_coupe_prototype_shows_lots_of_skin.html With stated AMG version using a twin turbo V8 engine, this brought up many questions for me to wonder about. Is the big engine V8 powered CUV / SUV's going to become the sole domain of Trucks or will the governments rewrite the spec to force the death of V8's? How does this offer any real benefit over the more traditional CUV/SUV? Can the market really justify / afford to support so many niche auto's? Does this tend to give view into what could cause future money waste and force MB and BMW to have to pare back their product offerings once the market stops buying the less than useful niche products? How does a Jelly bean style fit into MB style language as this seems to be generic looking and stand out at the same time? So many questions and no real clear cut answer. WHAT DO YOU THINK? Will this be a winner for MB or more of a distraction? Sound Off!

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 14, 2013 The BMW X6 is one of those vehicles that many ask why. Why does it exist? Well there is some reason as to why BMW is going ahead with a next-generation model, due within the eighteen months. Autocar reports that the next-generation X6 will get a more aggressive appearance, helping differentiating itself from the X5. The X6 will be using the X5’s platform, which will be shorten for the X6.Under the skin, the X6 will retain its monocoque chassis, but use much more high-strength steel. Powertrains will likely remain the same but with some new tweaks. That means the 3.0L turbocharged inline-six and 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8. There is also talk of a new X6 ActiveHybrid being worked on. Source: Autocar William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears.
