  1. Volvo has taken to Snapchat to release a couple of teasers for a new concept of some sort. Autocar reports that Volvo isn't confirming any details about what teasers are for, except hinting they belong to the '40 Series' family. Autocar also reports that Swedish automaker is planning to reveal two separate concept cars next week. Put two and two together and many believe we're getting a preview of the next-generation V40 and XC40. Judging from the pictures released by Volvo, we can see 'Thor's Hammer' LED DRLs and a large grille. It is expected that the next-generation '40 Series' family will comprise of a hatchback and sedan and use the new CMA platform that is being jointly developed by Volvo and Geely. 3. There is some good news for Volvo fans as the company is planning to launch the next-generation of the 40-Series to U.S. within three years. Speaking with Automotive News, Volvo's senior vice president for r&d Peter Mertens said the next-generation V40, along with a new sedan and crossover. "We will have the next-generation 40 cars absolutely in the U.S. I think it was a mistake not having the V40, not being prepared for the U.S. It was a mistake, but it was in that time when the company was in extreme trouble," Mertens explained. Volvo's U.S. dealers and certain staff at the U.S. office have been clamoring for the V40 for a few years. At the time, Volvo couldn't send over the V40 since it wasn't developed for the U.S, and it would take a lot of time and money for it to meet the various standards. 5. One model that Volvo's executive team and dealers in the U.S. have been asking for will be coming within the next few years. Speaking with Dutch publication AutoVisie, Volvo's marketing chief Alain Visser revealed that the next-generation V40 hatchback would be coming to the U.S. in the next few years. This is part of change at the company to stop developing region-specific models as they are too small for this. "For all the new models is that they are global players and each model has their own way relevant to a particular market," said Visser. The next-generation V40 will use a new modular platform that is being jointly worked on by Volvo and Geely. This new platform will also underpin a new compact crossover named XC40. Source: AutoVisie

  7. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 28, 2013 Once upon a time, the Volvo lineup had three compact cars; the C30 hatchback, S40 sedan, and V50 wagon. All three went off to the great parking lot in the sky and the V40 hatchback took their place. There was one problem, because of the poor sales of those three models in the U.S., Volvo decided not to sell the V40. Volvo executives and dealers in the U.S. want to see a change in that decision. "The V40 is a great small vehicle, and we would love to have it here. It is not currently in our plan but that does not stop me. I am constantly talking about making that a reality," said Tassos Panas, head of marketing and product development at Volvo Cars of North America. Now this push by Volvo executives and dealers has worked before. Consider the Volvo V60 wagon. Originally the V60 wagon was not coming to the U.S. However the pressure of dealers and executives in the U.S. cause Volvo to rethink and at the New York Auto Show, announced the V60 would be coming to the U.S. next year. There is a huge problem for the V40 though. Unlike the V60 which could be easy homologated thanks to the S60 sedan, the V40 would have a much tougher path to be sold in the U.S. For example, the engine lineup of the V40 would have to be tested for emissions. "That is one of the significant hurdles," said Panas. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required) William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears.
