GMC caused a stir in 2016 when it downsized the Acadia in 2017 from its previous near-Yukon length. That downsize brought the Acadia down to be inline in size with the contemporary Jeep Grand Cherokee. In the years since, the Grand Cherokee has grown and GMC is matching that with the 2024 GMC Acadia. Inches matter in this class and in that the Acadia gains (back) 10.6 inches in length and 3.2 inches in height. That equates to 80% more space behind the third row and 36% more space behind the second row. The biggest news is with the powertrain. The naturally aspirated V6 is gone from the lineup and now all Acadias are powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4. This engine is new to GM's lineup and in the Acadia produces 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. All models get an 8-speed automatic with all-wheel drive available. The Acadia AT4 gets and exclusive off-road-capable Active Torque Control AWD system. The interior is focused around a portrait-oriented 15-inch-diagonal premium GMC infotainment. The system has Google Assistant built in and can display up to 9 camera positions around the vehicle. The big news is the GMC Acadia will be sold as a Holden starting with the 2018 model year. The model will be offered exclusively with the 3.6L V6 and the choice of either front or all-wheel drive. Last week, General Motors issued a stop sale on the 2016 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia due to the window stickers having overstated fuel economy numbers by one to two mpg. All-wheel drive models had an incorrect label showing ratings of 17 City/24 Highway/19 Combined. The correct label has ratings of 15 City/22 Highway/17 Combined. But what about the folks who bought one of GM's large crossovers with the incorrect ratings? How did this happen in the first place? We have answers. In a statement to Automotive News, GM explained the 2016 models were equipped with new “emissions-related hardware,” which meant new tests needed to be done. “The fuel economy data from these tests were not captured in calculations made for EPA fuel economy labels ... causing 2016 model year fuel economy numbers to be overstated,” said GM. The error was found when engineers were working on the labels for the 2017 models. This issue was immediately reported to EPA. At the moment, GM is working with the EPA on this issue. As for what will happen to the nearly 170,000 owners of affected crossovers, GM is working on a compensation plan. Sources tell Reuters that GM is working out a program to compensate owners for the difference in fuel economy figures. Out of the 170,000 owners, more than 130,000 will qualify for the program (the remainder of vehicles belong to fleets). The plan will be announced in the coming week. Not surprisingly, an owner of one of the affected models has filed a class-action lawsuit against GM, alleging that the company concealed the actual fuel economy figures. This is a decrease of $1,905 from the base price of the 2016 model. If you want all-wheel drive, you'll need to jump up to the SLE which begins at $35,375 (a decrease of $1,725 when compared to the 2016 SLE AWD model). The SLT models begin at $39,275, followed by the All-Terrain at $40,040, and the Denali at $45,845. GMC has increased the amount of standard equipment including a new IntelliLink system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility; front pedestrian braking, and a surround view camera. Most models will come equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder with 195 horsepower. Optional is a 3.6L V6 with 310 horsepower. It might look the same, but there are big changes coming for the next-generation GMC Acadia Car and Driver got their hands on a set of spy shots showing off the next-generation GMC Acadia crossover. This is an important model for GMC as it currently is the third best-selling model in the lineup with more than 80,000 Acadias sold in the past couple of years. So what do the pictures reveal? It seems GMC isn't changing the basic design of the Acadia's exterior. But the interior shows some drastic changes. The dashboard looks similar to the one used on the Canyon with a compressed centerstack and a large screen with GMC's Intellilink. The new Acadia along with its sister models, the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse, will use a new GM platform called C1XX or “Chi” platform. This platform will incorporate a number of weight-saving features, hopefully solving one of the biggest problems with GM's large crossovers; being a bit too heavy. Power will come from a newer version of the 3.6L V6 with over 300 horsepower. There is also talk of a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder. Transmissions will include a six and an eight-speed automatic.
