  1. GMC had a hit on their hand when they introduced the GMC Canyon for the 2015 model year, but they've not done a lot to refresh the truck visually since then. Six years is a long time for a truck to go without a refresh, but in 2021 the Canyon will get one. In addition to the visual refresh, the Canyon is getting a new AT4 trim line like that of its big brother the Sierra. The AT4 designation brings new 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires on 17-inch aluminum wheels, an off-road tuned suspension with advanced hill descent control system, four-wheel drive standard along with a G80 rear automatic locking differential, and a transfer case skid plate. Visually, the grille is larger and there are now red recovery hooks. The seats have Kalahari stitching in AT4 headrest embroidery. The Denali is also getting some upgrades. The grille has been updated with a more sculpted and layered pattern. Chrome assist steps are standard along with a swath of other chrome accents. It is equipped with 20-inch diamond cut wheels and the look has been updated to match the Sierra. Inside there is now open-pore ash wood trim, aluminum trim, unique stitching, and a new cocoa/dark atmosphere color theme. Heated/Cooled seats and a heated steering wheel are standard. Both trims come standard with the 308 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 or the 2.8-liter diesel with 369 lb-ft of torque. The 2021 Canyon will go on sale later this year. View full article

  3. At an event in Vail, Colorado today, GMC took the wraps off the 2021 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. As before, the top of the Yukon lineup will be the Denali trim, but joining the Denali for the first time is the brand's new AT4 trim which is a more off-road ready version. The Yukon gets an all-new interior while the Denali gets its own exclusive version. The Denali instrument panel is completely new and there are also unique seats and four color themes. Real wood trims with a natural look and texture join with a Denali only leather, hand-stitched interior. For the driver, there is a 15-inch diagonal multicolor heads-up display. On the Denali, AT4, and SLT trims, there is an available power sliding center console that allow the console to slide back up to 10 inches offering a large storage area. Joining the lineup is the AT4 version. All GMC nameplates except the Savanna will be getting an AT4 version by the end of this year. The Yukon AT4 gets a unique front fascia, and body color or dark accents around the outside, and a pair of red recovery hooks on the front. The AT4 can be ordered with a four-corner air ride adaptive suspension that can raise the vehicle an additional 2-inches. The air ride system also lowers the vehicle 0.75 of an inch when at speed and can lower the vehicle up to two inches for easier ingress and egress. Also included in the Yukon AT4 are at two-speed transfer case, 20-inch wheels, traction select system with off-road mode, hill descent control, skid plats, AT4-exclusive leather appointed seats, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, and heated outboard second row seats. The 4th generation of GM's magnetic ride control is available in certain trims. Also available is an electronic limited slip differential. When in 4WD low, the eLSD operates at full lock to prevent wheelslip. The Yukon will offer three engine choices. An all-new version of the 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque is a buy-up option. Standard is the venerable 5.3-liter, updated with new stop/start technology and dynamic fuel management which can allow the vehicle to run on as few a two cylinders. Additionally, a 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder turbo diesel joins the Yukon for the first time. No matter which engine is selected, the transmission is a 10-speed automatic activated through GMC's new Electronic Precision Shift push-button selector. Like the recently revealed 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, the Yukon gains 4.9-inches in wheelbase and that leads to a big increase in interior room. 2020 Yukon 2021 Yukon Change Wheelbase (inches) 116 120.9 +4.9 Overall Length (inches) 203.9 210.0 +6.1 Legroom – Third Row 24.8 34.9 +10.1 Cargo Room Behind Third Row (cubic feet) 15.3 25.5 +10.2 Maximum Cargo Room (cubic feet) 94.7 122.9 +28.2 2020 Yukon XL 2021 Yukon XL Change Wheelbase (inches) 130 134.1 +4.1 Overall Length (inches) 224.3 225.2 +0.9 Legroom – Third Row (inches) 34.5 36.7 +2.2 Cargo Room Behind Third Row (cubic feet) 39.3 41.1 +1.8 Maximum Cargo Room (cubic feet) 121.7 144.7 +23 The 2021 Yukon and Yukon XL go on sale later this year with pricing to be released closer to on sale date.

  5. GMC is taking its CarbonPro carbon-fiber bed into limited production in June for the 2019 model year and making it into its own edition. GMC announced the CarbonPro when the 2019 GMC Sierra Denali debuted back in March 2018. GMC says that at first, the CarbonPro edition will be available in limited numbers of Denali and AT4 models and will expand availability of the package in those trims for 2020. The CarbonPro bed is lighter than a steel bed by about 60 pounds, but has much stronger durability and scratch resistance. Carbon fiber is naturally corrosion resistant, making the GMC CarbonPro edition the most corrosion resistant bed in the industry. Additionally, the CarbonPro bed has best in class cargo volume, increasing the cargo capacity over the steel bed by 1 cubic foot. Tire indentations are in place at the front wall for motorcycles, and two additional tie downs are installed on the front wall. GMC tested the durability of the bed in extreme scenarios by dropping cinder blocks, 1800 lbs of gravel, and 450-pound water filled steel drums into the bed. A generator was used to test the high heat exposure durability by aiming the exhaust directly at the corner of the bed. GMC even drove a Snowmobile with a studded track onto the bed and then accelerated at full throttle resulting in only minimal scratching of the material. The CarbonPro bed comes with GMC's Multi-pro talegate The GMC Denali and AT4 Carbon Pro Editions go on sale this summer. View full article

  7. Here is some food for thought: over 50 percent of Yukon/Yukon XL models sold are Denalis. A pretty nice number and one that makes a fair amount of profit for GMC. But that also means GMC needs to keep Denali models up to date to keep those sales up. For 2018, GMC is making some updates to the Denali trim for the Yukon family. First up is a new multidimensional chrome grille featuring grille shutters to improve fuel economy. "The new grille, which is flanked by HID headlamps and LED Signature Lighting, advances the design legacy established with the very first Yukon Denali in 1999. It’s a more exciting and sophisticated design, while remaining instantly recognizable as part of the GMC Denali family," said GMC Global Exterior Design Director Matt Noone. Under the skin is a new 10-speed automatic transmission featuring wider, 7.39 overall gear ratio spread that will help make the Yukon/XL Denali more efficient. A 6.2L V8 engine offering up 420 horsepower is standard. The updated Yukon/XL Denali arrives at dealers this fall. Source: GMC Press Release is on Page 2 2018 GMC Yukon Denali Elevates Style, Refinement The ultimate expression of Professional Grade gets bold refresh on GMC Yukon models DETROIT – GMC is elevating the 2018 Yukon Denali lineup with styling and trim enhancements, as well as a new, advanced 10-speed automatic transmission. A new, sculpted grille design distinguishes the Yukon Denali, while new Mastique Ash real wood trim adds depth and richness to the interior. The new Hydra-Matic 10-speed transmission — paired with Yukon Denali’s 6.2L V-8 engine — enhances refinement with world-class shift smoothness, responsiveness and quietness. “Yukon Denali has always matched style with substance, and the enhancements for 2018 advance that legacy,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global GMC. “The foundational elements of exclusive design, premium touches and uncompromising capability have made Yukon Denali an icon for nearly 20 years.” Multi-Dimensional Grille Design GMC designers evolved the iconic Denali grille with a multidimensional, sculpted interpretation that, like other contemporary GMC elements, was designed in a layered manner. It’s a theme seen in other new GMC models such as the Acadia and Terrain. “The new grille, which is flanked by HID headlamps and LED Signature Lighting, advances the design legacy established with the very first Yukon Denali in 1999,” said Matt Noone, director, Global GMC Exterior Design. “It’s a more exciting and sophisticated design, while remaining instantly recognizable as part of the GMC Denali family.” In addition to a more sophisticated appearance, the new grille offers greater airflow to the radiator. Active aero shutters behind the grille close in certain conditions on the highway to reduce aerodynamic drag and enhance efficiency. 10 Speeds, Refined Performance The Yukon Denali’s new 10-speed automatic leverages the engineering experience of General Motors’ multispeed transmissions to deliver improved performance. A wider, 7.39 overall gear ratio spread, compared to the Yukon Denali’s previous eight-speed automatic, enables a lower numerical top gear ratio and contributes to greater efficiency. The transmission’s optimized gearing and proprietary controls allow the 6.2L V-8 engine to deliver a winning combination smooth operation and precise response. Standard and available features include: 420-hp 6.2L V-8 engine with direct injection and Active Fuel Management StabiliTrak electronic stability control, tow/haul mode, trailer sway control, auto grade braking and hill start assist Magnetic Ride Control for improved body motion control Standard 20-inch wheels and available 22-inch wheels Automatic locking rear differential Four-wheel-disc brakes with Duralife™ brake rotors Active Noise Cancellation for a quieter interior 8-inch diagonal GMC Infotainment system with Navigation includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability Standard 8-inch diagonal customizable driver display with head-up display Multiple USB ports and accessory power outlets, including a 110-volt three-prong outlet, to support electronic devices OnStar Basic Plan1 is standard for five years and includes access to an in-vehicle 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot2 and select features via the myGMC mobile app3 Wireless phone charging Heated and ventilated driver and passenger seats, heated second-row seats Hands-free programmable power liftgate The Denali trim accounts for well more than half of all Yukon sales. It is offered in Yukon and Yukon XL models, with the XL featuring a 14-inch-longer wheelbase (20 inches longer overall), for increased third-row legroom and more than double the cargo room behind the third-row seat. 9. 2017 GMC Acadia - Denali or All-Terrain, what would you choose? As I have spent time with my son looking at various CUV models, I cam across the new Acadia and learned they had a monochromatic version that I think is very sharp looking. GMC has built a very nice profitable line by offering Denali on every model they make. Yet not everyone likes Chrome all over. So this brings up the desire to see what people think. I configured up two near identical CUVs with the only difference being the All-Terrain package on an SLT2 equipped Acadia and the Denali package on an SLT2 equipped Acadia. What are your thoughts? Review the two listing autos below and sound off on what you think of monochromatic off road or chromed on road CUV! 2017 GMC Acadia Denali 2017 GMC Acadia All-Terrain
  10. Nearly 20 years ago, GMC decided to create a luxury version of its Yukon SUV called the Denali by putting on some chrome wheels and leather upholstery. Today, Denali is available on most of GMC's lineup and makes up 25 percent of total sales. It also makes GMC a lot of money. Motor Authority reports that the Denali trim gives GMC highest transaction price of any non-luxury brand in the industry. To put it another way, if GMC was its own automaker, it would be ranked 150th in the Fortune 500 list. How is this possible? You only need to look at GMC's top vehicles. Close to three out of four Yukons sold are Denali with price tags beginning at $65,000 and climbing. 50 percent of Sierra HDs are Denalis with average transaction prices ranging from $60,000 to $75,000. 12. GMC's Denali lineup is going to get bigger with the introduction of two new models. First up is the 2017 GMC Canyon Denali. Like other Denali models, the Canyon version gets a number of chrome exterior pieces, polished exhaust tip, spray-in bedliner, and twenty-inch alloy wheels. The interior comes wrapped in Jet Black leather with heated and ventilated seats, wood trim, and a new instrument cluster. Now the Denali trim will only be available on the Canyon crew cab and come with the choice of either the 3.6L V6 or 2.8L Duramax Diesel. The Canyon Denali will go on sale late next year. Second is the Sierra Denali Ultimate, which GMC claims is the most luxurious pickup it has ever built. This version takes the standard Sierra Denali and layers on more equipment. The exterior boasts LED headlights, twenty-two inch chrome wheels, chrome tow hooks on both ends, and Tri-Mode Power Steps that make it easier to get in and out of the bed. GMC added more soft-touch materials and contrast stitching for the Denali Ultimate's interior. Base power will come from a 5.3L V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Optional with the 6.2L V8 with 420 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Four-wheel drive is standard regardless of which engine is chosen. GMC says the Sierra Denali Ultimate will go on sale sometime in the first quarter of 2016. It goes on sale in late 2016. “Canyon is the segment’s first and only premium midsize truck, offering unparalleled capability and efficiency matched with maneuverability and refinement,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing. “The all-new Canyon Denali builds on that award-winning combination with the distinctive styling, luxurious interior and elevated content that has defined the Denali nameplate since its introduction nearly 17 years ago.” Like all Denali models, the new Canyon Denali is distinguished with a unique chrome grille and unique wheels – 20-inch ultra-bright-machined aluminum wheels with painted accents. Exterior cues include chrome fog lamp bezels, five-inch-diameter rectangular chrome assist steps, a polished exhaust tip and a standard spray-in bed liner. The Canyon Denali will be offered in six exterior colors. Also available is the all-new 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel, which includes a maximum trailering rating of up to 7,700 pounds (3,493 kg) and EPA-estimated fuel economy of 31 mpg highway (2WD). It is the cleanest diesel truck engine ever produced by General Motors and meets some of the toughest U.S. emissions standards, thanks in part to a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system. The engine is paired with the Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed automatic transmission, which uses a unique Centrifugal Pendulum Vibration Absorber in the torque converter to reduce powertrain noise and vibration. Diesel models also feature smart diesel exhaust braking and an integrated trailer brake controller. Smart diesel exhaust braking enhances vehicle control and reduces brake wear by varying the amount of brakes needed for the vehicle, load and grade. GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate: The Pinnacle of Premium Unique 22-inch wheels, expanded package of standard content drives exclusivity DETROIT – GMC is taking the range-topping style, craftsmanship and capability of the Sierra Denali even higher with the 2016 Sierra Denali Ultimate. It builds on the Sierra Denali’s already class-leading attributes with a package of precision-crafted features designed to elevate its comfort, design and capability in the growing premium niche of the full-size truck market. GMC introduces the Sierra Denali Ultimate today, ahead of its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The segment has nearly doubled in 2015 and grown tenfold since 2013, when GMC had zero percent of the market. Active noise cancelation technology contributes to a quieter driving experience and is featured with the 6.2L engine. A 5.3L V-8 with the new Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission is the standard powertrain. An integrated trailer brake controller is standard on the Sierra Denali Ultimate and allows the driver to adjust the amount of output available to the electric trailer brake and to manually apply the brakes. Additionally, Sierra Denali’s standard, segment-exclusive magnetic ride control delivers more precise body motion control, for a greater feeling of responsiveness to the driver and a smoother ride for passengers. Its sensors “read” the road every millisecond, triggering damping changes in as little as five milliseconds in electronically controlled shock absorbers that replace conventional mechanical-valve shocks. Professional grade style and crafted interior In addition to the special content, the Sierra Denali Ultimate includes all of the crafted interior, advanced features and design elements of other Denali models, including body-color bumpers, chrome exhaust tip, unique interior decorative trim, a polished stainless steel exhaust outlet and a factory-installed spray-on bed liner with a three-dimensional Denali logo. 14. From the not surprising file, a spy photographer has gotten the first indication of a Canyon Denali. Back in September, we reported that GMC's chief wants a Canyon Denali, but didn't give a possible timeline for when it will come out. Pictures show a prototype Canyon wearing the Denali's chrome mesh grille and chrome bumper behind some camouflage. Now the prototype doesn't feature a chrome rear bumper like other Denali models. But it doesn't mean that the production model will not feature one. No pictures of the prototype's interior, but we expect the usual Denali upgrades. Source: Autoblog

  16. GMC's chief, Duncan Aldred has a dream. He wants to see a Denali version of the new Canyon midsize truck. "I'm pushing the engineers and designers to give me a credible Denali,"Aldred told Automotive News. "I'm not just going to badge engineer it. It's got to be credible." Aldred says the Denali lineup made up 20 percent of GMC's mix in 2013. He wants to see that increased to 25 percent in the next few years and believes a Denali version of the Canyon is the ticket. "I'm going to sell quite a lot of Canyons, so that's kind of going to halt my progress" if the pickup doesn't eventually get a Denali version, Aldred said. Aldred wouldn't reveal what he would like to see in a Canyon Denali. But knowing what GMC has done to other vehicles with the Denali treatment, expect cosmetic enhancements inside and out, and possibly a bigger engine. 20. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 15, 2012 It only seems like a year ago when we got our hands on some spy shots of a GMC Terrain Denali mule running around metro Detroit. Well fast forward to today and General Motors is unveiling the Terrain Denali, almost a month before the New York Auto Show. The big news for the Terrain Denali comes in the powerplants. The stalwart 2.4L four-cylinder sticks around as the base. But the optional 3.0L V6 bids adieu and in its place is the 3.6L DI V6 producing 301 HP and 272 lb-ft of torque. GM says the 3.6 will deliver the same fuel economy as the 3.0L while providing more power. And the 3.6L will not be a Denali only option. GM confirms the 3.6L will make its way to the Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox. The Terrain Denali also gets new dual-flow dampers which provides provides a smoother ride and improved handling. Like all other Denalis, the Terrain Denali gets cosmetic changes for both the exterior and interior. For the exterior, the changes include, Signature chrome grille Satin chrome accents Body color front and rear fascias Body color rocker panels with satin chrome molding New headlamp and taillamp designs Dual chrome finish exhaust outlets (single outlet on 2.4L) 18-Inch Wheels on the 2.4L, 19-Inch Wheels on the 3.6L Step inside and you’re greeted with, Soft-touch instrument panel with French stitching Soft-touch Jet Black leather with Red accent stitching Leather-wrapped steering wheel with smoked mahogany wood accents Embossed Denali logos on front seatbacks Smoked mahogany wood trim accents Denali illuminated front sill plates Eight-way power driver and passenger seat GMC’s Intellilink Infotainment System The Terrain also fitted with a standard forward collision alert and lane departure warning that uses an industry first single-camera crash-avoidance system to warn drivers when a collision is imminent or the vehicle crosses a lane marker. Also, standard is side blind zone and rear cross traffic alert. General Motors will announce pricing and sale date later on in the year. Press Release is on Page 2 2013 GMC Terrain Denali Debuts with New 3.6L V-6 Offers distinctive style along with new technology and safety features NEW YORK – GMC is expanding its exclusive Denali sub-brand with the debut of the 2013 Terrain Denali, bringing a new level of style and power to the luxury small SUV. “Denali is growing fast,” said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of GMC Marketing. “With seven different models, sales for this brand within a brand increased 79 percent from 2010 to 2011. With this in mind, the decision to create a more-upscale Terrain was an easy one.” More power, same efficiency With the introduction of the Terrain Denali, GMC also announced a new 3.6-liter V-6 engine with direct injection and continuously variable valve timing will replace the current 3.0-liter V-6 engine in Terrain lineup for the 2013 model year. SAE certified at 301 horsepower (224 kW) and 272 lb.-ft. (369 Nm) of torque, this engine makes more power and torque, but is expected to deliver fuel economy equal to its predecessor. The new V-6 uses lightweight components that contribute to the Terrain’s fuel efficiency while boosting its horsepower. An integrated cylinder head/exhaust manifold design saves about 13 pounds compared to a non-integrated design, while a composite intake manifold saves about 5.5 pounds vs. an aluminum intake. Additionally, a lightweight structural front cover and high-strength connecting rods save additional weight. Terrain’s standard Ecotec 2.4-liter I-4 with direct injection and continuously variable valve timing is also available for buyers looking to combine Denali’s high-end appointments with a best-in-class 32 highway mpg (2WD model). Front-wheel drive is standard on Terrain Denali, with all-wheel drive available for both engines. New dual-flow dampers are exclusive to the Terrain Denali’s suspension system. This technology provides a smoother ride and improved handling by controlling suspension dampening across a broader range of driving conditions. Signature design cues Inside and out, the 2013 Terrain Denali features high-end details. Models with the 2.4L engine feature 18-inch wheels, while the V-6 engine is paired with 19-inch wheels. Other Denali-specific exterior features include: Signature chrome grille Satin chrome accents Body color front and rear fascias Body color rocker panels with satin chrome molding New headlamp and taillamp designs Dual chrome finish exhaust outlets (single outlet on 2.4L) Terrain Denali’s cabin updates are highlighted by soft-touch Jet Black leather, which lines the seats and door inserts. Contrast stitching and red accent lighting contribute to an inviting interior. Other Denali-exclusive interior details include: Soft-touch instrument panel with French stitching Leather-wrapped steering wheel with smoked mahogany wood accents Embossed Denali logos on front seatbacks Smoked mahogany wood trim accents Denali illuminated front sill plates Eight-way power driver and passenger seat Class-leading technology Terrain Denali comes standard with many of GMC’s leading technologies, including a color touch radio with IntelliLink. This new infotainment system features a reconfigurable home screen; intuitive voice commands; Bluetooth smartphone integration; control of streaming internet radio apps such as Pandora and Stitcher; and iPod controls with Gracenote music database technology. Forward collision alert and lane departure warning are standard on Terrain Denali. They use the industry’s first single-camera crash-avoidance system to visually and audibly warn drivers when a collision is imminent or the vehicle crosses a lane marker. In addition, side blind zone and rear cross traffic alert help avoid collisions by using radar to watch spots the driver may not be able to see – and provide visible and audible warnings. Convenience features, such as a programmable power liftgate, are standard on Terrain Denali. At the touch of a button, owners can access the vehicle’s 63.9 cubic feet of cargo space (behind the first row), while a memory function stops the liftgate at a chosen height to help shorter drivers or accommodate low garage heights. Available technologies include color touch navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system. As with every new GMC, the Terrain Denali comes with six free months of OnStar’s Directions and Connections plan. It includes Automatic Crash Response, Turn-by-Turn Navigation, roadside assistance, emergency services link, stolen vehicle assistance and remote door unlock. Pricing and availability of the 2013 Terrain Denali and Terrain 3.6L V-6 models will be announced closer to the on-sale date in the third quarter of 2012. View full article
  21. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 15, 2012 It only seems like a year ago when we got our hands on some spy shots of a GMC Terrain Denali mule running around metro Detroit.
