It has been some time since we last reported on spy shots of the mid-engine Corvette. Buy a new set of spy photos have come out this week and give us our best look at the next-generation model. The particular vehicle seen in the photos was being tested on Nürburgring and wasn't wearing as much camouflage as previous photos - hinting that development work is finishing up. The front end reminds us of the La Ferrari with a pointed nose, along with a fair amount of coolers behind the bumper. Large side air scoops provide cooling for whatever engine - likely a V8 of some kind. Towards the back, the Corvette retains the fastback shape and what appears to be a separate engine cover - possibly glass. The heavily covered-up interior was also photographed. We can make out a screen of some sort, possibly navigation. There also appears to be a paddle behind the steering wheel, hinting the particular model is an automatic/dual-clutch transmission. We're expecting to see the mid-engine Corvette debut sometime next year. Source: Autoweek, Car and Driver

Rumorpile: CAD Images Leak Out of the Mid-Engine Corvette
William Maley posted an article in Chevrolet
Last night, a member of the Corvette Forum posted CAD images of what is purported to be the mid-engine Corvette. Those images would disappear later in the night, but not before someone saved them and uploaded them to imgur. Judging by the quality of images, we're guessing someone used their smartphone to take pictures of a computer screen. The images show off the engine and what looks like to be the sub structure. One of the members on the site, firebirdfan has an excellent breakdown of the images. Here are some of the more interesting details. No more transverse leaf spring, replaced by coils. Fancy shocks (can't really tell if they are magnetorheological or spool-valve) Engine appears to be an LT1 (no forced induction) A beefy transaxle (firebirdfan believes it could be for the automatic) The question arises of whether these images are the real deal or not. We're somewhat doubtful they could be fake considering how much effort would need to put in to create drawings like this. But they could be an old design and Corvette engineers made some changes for the production model. We'll keep you posted. Spying: Mid-Engine Chevrolet Corvette Shows Off A Little More
William Maley posted an article in Chevrolet
It is no secret that Chevrolet is working on a mid-engine Corvette, especially when a set of spy shots clearly showing the vehicle came out last fall. A new batch of spy shots have hit the web and we now have a better idea of what it could look like. The pictures reveal that the front end will look somewhat similar to the current Corvette with a pointed nose. There appears to be a curved windshield and a tapered roofline. Other pictures reveal the outline of the hood where the V8 engine resides. Speaking of the V8 engine, there are reports saying the mid-engine Corvette will have three engines on offer - codenamed LT2, LT6, and LT7. We know LT6 is possibly a naturally-aspirated V8 with 700 horsepower and LT7 is a twin-turbo V8. LT2 might be a hybrid of some sort. Everyone seems to think General Motors will unveil the mid-engine Corvette at the Detroit Auto Show next year. We'll be keeping a close eye to see if this happens. Whenever the Corvette plant closes it doors for public tours for a certain amount of time, it usually means some big change is coming to the model. The Bowling Green Daily News reports that starting next month, GM will suspend plant tours for 18 months. National Corvette Museum Marketing and Communications Manager, Katie Frassinelli tells the paper the suspension is for a reconfiguration of the assembly line and a new paint shop. “The new paint shop at the plant has to be tied into the existing assembly line. The old paint shop is on the opposite side of the plant,” said Frassinelli. It should be noted this is the longest time that the plant tour has been suspended. Unsurprisingly, this announcement has caused many to wonder if the change is somehow related to the long-rumored mid-engined Corvette. Speculation has it that the model will debut at next year's Detroit Auto Show. Source: Bowling Green Daily News View full article

Spying: Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Returns for Another Performance
William Maley posted an article in Chevrolet
While everyone has been going gaga over the possible fruition of the mid-engine Corvette, there is another juicy Corvette just around the corner. A spy photographer has gotten some up close photos of the next Corvette ZR1. Engineers have done their best to cover up the front, but there are some details that can be pulled out. First are the large vents on the bumper and a massive air intake. All of that air is needed if there is a 700 horsepower 6.2L supercharged V8 under the hood (according to rumor) along with massive brakes. We're guessing there is also some venting on the hood to provide additional cooling. The back features small uprights for a large rear wing (something that was captured in previous spy shots). No word on when we could possibly see the next ZR1. Some think it could be the Detroit Auto Show in January. We'll be keeping a close eye. Source: AutoGuide, Motor1- 6 comments

The problem with the previous spy shots of the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette was you couldn't really tell what it was. The shots showed a blurry mule on GM's test track. For all we knew, it could have been bigfoot terrorizing GM employees. But finally, we have gotten the first clear and detailed shots of the mid-engine Corvette. It is clear this mule is mid-engined because of the proportions - short front and long rear end. There also appears to be some bits from the C7 such as the taillights. Other details are hidden by the heavy camouflage. Details on the mid-engine Corvette are very sketchy. As we have reported previously, the mid-engine Corvette could be shown as soon as 2018 at Detroit, possibly use a twin-turbo V8 and a ten-speed automatic, and be the sole Corvette model when C7 production ends in 2021. The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a hot car. Both in terms of performance and problems. Motor1 reports that Chevrolet will be introducing improvements for the Z06's cooling in 2017. Tadge Juechter, Corvette executive chief engineer said a small number of Z06 owners were experiencing heatsoak or overheating issues when running their models hard on the track. Juechter said this group was small, but very vocal with this issue. Chevrolet says full details about the changes will be announced later this year, but did say one of the changes will be a new hood with improved cooling vents. Source: Motor1.com View full article

Corvette Z06, 427 Owners File A Class-Action Lawsuit Against GM
William Maley posted an article in Chevrolet
19 owners of the 2006 - 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and 427 models have filed a class-action lawsuit against General Motors against an engine issue. The lawsuit says the 7.0L V8 fitted in these models have excessive valve guide wear that leads to engine failures. The suit goes on to say that GM is aware of this problem, but hasn't come up with a solution. According to Law360, General Motors began testing vehicles equipped with the V8 and were able to replicate the problem. The issue is that GM didn't go any further with the tests as it “would lead to more repair and investigations than it wished to perform.” If this suit goes forward, it might lead to lawsuits dealing with the new Corvette Z06 and its engine issues. As The Truth About Cars points out, a number of outlets have had issues with the Z06's engine. Towards the end of last year and early this year, a number of Z06 owners were having their engines fail with under 1,000 miles on the odometer. Gary Gastelu of Fox News in July had his Z06 tester experience engine failure In response, GM asked owners to follow the break-in procedure and change the oil when the vehicle hits 500 miles. [*]Motor Trend in their 'Best Drivers Car' test had the Z06 in DNF due to engine issues. "It didn't work. The damn Z06 retarded spark by 8 degrees, and the 1.7-liter TVS supercharger refused to make boost. No one knows why," wrote Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman. General Motors said the problem was bad gas, but this seems somewhat dubious as all of the vehicles - including two other GM products (Cadillac ATS-V and CTS-V) got the same gas.
