  2. ??? The guy drives badly (he has trouble parallel parking and stops too far from the drive-thru window—that's it) because he just got his license. The point of the ad is "Dudes, I passed, let's go to Maccas and celebrate!" They're not drinking, they're not speeding, they're not hooning around. They're sitting in a car eating drive-thru burgers because they've never been able to do that by themselves before. What kind of stick up the butt thought-police would think it inappropriate?
  3. Errr, that should be the NG G6 around till 2013. Whether it is a separate program to the imminent E2 Chevy or more like the fwd Cutlass/Malibu twins is another matter. Given the recent CAFE agreement I can easily see GM cutting the G8 and G6 after that time, but that simply increases the desirability of a compact 4-cylinder model based on Alpha to replace all the current Pontiac sedans and coupes.
  4. I can see Pontiac not getting an Alpha model. I can see Holden getting an Alpha model for volume. I can see Buick China getting one to replace the Regal or Excelle (although they are going with Delta for the latter). I can, just barely, see Chevy getting one for sale in the Middle East and Latin America, where it is like Holden, a more inclusive brand. But especially if you're are going to badge the Commodore Ute as a Pontiac, I see no reason to sell an Alpha model as a Chevrolet in North America, when CAFE concerns may mean volume is restricted (unless of course it underpins the next-gen Camaro). I can even see a justification for a 4-cylinder Alpha sedan and coupe being the only 4/5-seat Pontiacs you can buy (i.e. Pontiac only selling the Solstice and a compact G5/Tempest coupe and sedan).
  5. Chevrolet light vehicle sales for November (up to Class 3 trucks) totalled 150,364 (-11.40%). At Toyota (which only sells light vehicles and not even Class 2 and 3 trucks) November sales totalled 162,722 (+2.21%), excluding Scion. For the year, Toyota still trails Chevrolet by a good margin 1,980,567 (+5.75%) v. 2,066,273 (-6.58%). Light vehicle sales at Ford were 146,455 (-1.83%) for Nov. and 1,934,417 (-15.51%) for the year so far.   7. Now you have to adjust the economics by adding $5-10K to the price of every vehicle for extensive fuel-saving technologies. And if you're a contractor, handyman, gardener or courier etc., factor in having to upgrade to a class 4 or 5 medium truck to stay in business.
  8. I believe there were changes to the intake and exhaust, partly for emission reduction (by exhaust volume), but which result in a loss of power and higher fuel use (and hence higher emissions [per mile], but then no-one ever said regulations were about logic).

  10. While I think they should offer the sedan (current or next gen), there's no sign they plan to do so, even though the sedan will be built in the same plant as the Saturn versions. Of course they may be planing on domestic production for the sedan alongside the Cobalt.
  11. You'd better hurry then. By 2020 you'll need to spend at least $30K to get a midsize sedan, and a compact will be at least $20K, if not $25K (plus inflation).

  14. HUD is great but requires a champion for a particular product line who sees the value. BMW has one, and GM NA on some programs, but not Holden. Perhaps PCS can champion it at Opel now?
  15. It may also be too big to be a Saturn. A midsize, rather than fullsize, crossover may do better with Saturn than GMC.
  16. AFM in an HD truck may well be pointless. If you need the HD towing capacity, then you won't benefit much from AFM, as you'll be operating on all eight cylinders more often. To my knowledge the only engine equipped with an inactive AFM system is the L76 fitted to the final-year VZ Holden Commodore for emission compliance (all of Euro3—US engines are typically Euro4 or 5 equivalent). Note the HD engines come in two versions, low GVWR rating and high GVWR rating (reduced rpm limit and hence less power). The 8.1 is only available in Class 4 and higher trucks (i.e. Topkicks, Kodiaks and GM-badged Isuzu LCFs).

  18. A-segment. In fact A0-segment (smaller than typical A/B-segment models such as the Agila and Mini). The Groove would be good as a larger A/B-segment MPV like the new bB, Cube and Agila though. This is what is called the Global Mini Car architecture, the size below Gamma (Global Small Car). Global Small Car though will stretch from B/C-segment cars such as the Corsa and Aveo to crossovers and vans just as large as models based on Delta (Global Compact Car).

  23. You left out non-compliant. Despite numerous updates IE still doesn't recognize some of the oldest html elements, including basic character entities such as the apostrophe ' (required by some search engines when creating a sitemap) and has its own standards for coding and display which are often incompatible with those set by the W3C. On the other hand it is robust—if a page is coded incorrectly (open-ended html tags for example) it will more often fill in the missing information, although naturally this isn't always where it was supposed to be.

  25. Compact. It was the Edge and Equinox, ahead of both the Highlander and Pilot (temporarily at least). Sales of the Japanese duo have been siphoned off by the smaller CRV and RAV4 and the bigger Lambdas to such an extent that the American utes led the midsize segment for a few months (note that a lot of Highlanders go to fleet as well). All four still sell at twice the rate of the big fullsize crossovers (barely in the case of the Acadia), but still not as well as the Trailblazer—still the nation's most popular midsize ute most months (it may even take the annual sales crown from the Explorer).
