  1. Nope, that's the CAMI-built, jointly-developed Tracker.
  2. Philadelphia
  3. DCX have their own conversion van subsidiary: http://www.westfalia-van.de/
  4. There are such things as factory recommended service schedules to change the oil, check brake wear etc.
  5. He means Acura RL/Honda Legend.
  6. Still 12-18 months from sign-off for a vehicle with all major structure and components shared with an existing model (merely re-skinned). The Camaro will not be such a vehicle (i.e. not merely a 2-door Commodore). A production concept with a lot of work under the skin still to go probably could not debut before the 2008 NAIAS. Calibration of the ECU and suspension settings for local market conditions may take 6 months alone (which is why the Gen IV V8 in the last VZ Commodores doesn't get AFM). If GM approves a MonteCarlo based on the next Monaro, it could come out before the Camaro.
  7. Faking it
  8. They were, probably by mistake (the Japanese SAE developed the JIS standard). Additionally the JIS standard is corrected for more advantageous atmospheric conditions which also boost hp (lower temp, higher pressure). Honda Europe had been far more thorough in correcting hp figures to the EEC standard essentialy identical to the old SAE standard. Where comparisons are possible you can clearly see what the old figures should have been. A quick comparison of Japanese-market hp figures shows that Honda and Toyota were not correcting for the US standard or units.Note that for higher-output engines Japanese manufacturers by a gentleman's agreement did not quote actual output above 280 PS, although some engines actually surpassed that. Lexus is still the only brand to break that rule in the Japanese market, although Nissan will quote actual, higher outputs outside of Japan (such as 300+ hp for the 350Z and G35), but still "280 PS" :AH-HA_wink: :AH-HA_wink: for the same vehicle in Japan.
  9. None. Certification is optional and so far only GM is doing it.At the moment the different rating systems are: DIN 70020 - old and rather lax. Sometimes quoted by European manufacturers for comparison with the EEC. EEC 80/1269 - new European standard required for type certification. Essentially similar to pre-2006 SAE standard. US subsidiaries sometimes forget to convert from PS to US hp. JIS D 1001 - new Japanese standard developed by the Japanese SAE (a probable source of confusion). Similar to the UN ECE Reg.85 and DIN 70020, not to be confused with the EEC (European Economic Community). SAE J1349 (2005) - latest SAE standard, revised to produce results closer to actual driving conditions. More losses to accessories, but also allowances for active exhaust systems which can produce more power. ISO 1585:1992 - based on an older SAE standard, essentialy similar to EEC and SAE standards, often quoted by Ford Europe. In South America GM uses the Brazilian NBR standard based on the ISO. The SAE certification standard applies to both gross and net horsepower tests and is in addition to the revised J1349 standard. DIN, ECE and JIS standards are corrected to a lower temperature and higher pressure than the ISO/EEC/SAE standards. Just like an intercooled turbo, this produces higher output figures. Additionally "horsepower" in non-English-speaking nations generally refers to metric horsepower (PS/CH/CV/HK), not US or UK hp. 1 PS is not quite as much as 1 hp, so this also produces a higher figure, which translated press releases often don't correct for. VW America sometimes gets caught out, quoting the correct kW, but the wrong hp, as do media quoting European data. Prior to 2006 Honda and Toyota in the US had been quoting the Japanese JIS figures, without correcting for the SAE standard's higher temperature and lower pressure (there are standard conversion formula), or even converting from metric to US hp. Add in the tougher 2005 SAE standard and you get some rather big drops in apparent hp. Where possible you can compare hp figures produced by each standard by cchecking European, Japanese and US specs for the same model. In general: DIN (if quoted) will be highest, followed by; JIS EEC SAE (post 01/2006) Honda's figures for the new Civic appear to be JIS PS, rather than SAE hp as claimed (or at least, they quote the same figures regardless of standard or units—140 PS JIS, 140 PS EEC and 140 hp SAE). Somebody screwed up somewhere.
  10. Not a redesign, the GL-Class is in addition to the G-Class, which continues in production by Magna-Steyr (originally Austro-Daimler) as it always has.
  11. To be fair they complained about that too.
  12. No, it means you have to put your foot down to roast your tires. AFM shuts down half the engine at low load — coasting downhill, highway cruising, idling at the lights, crawling around the parking lot etc. Put your foot down and all the cylinders fire for maximum power.
  13. They don't have advertisers because they're financed by tort lawyers. "Thats $3 for each plaintiff and $7 million for us."
  14. Nobody actually pays any attention. There have been and are media outlets who specialise in giving the slapdown to unprofessional reporting, from bias to blatant goof-ups. Only a very limited audience tunes in unless it makes a good footage for America's Funniest.
  15. Toyota and Honda had not tested their engines to the US SAE standard at all, but to the Japanese JISI standard developed by the Japanese SAE, and reported in metric, not US hp. Although Toyota has been thorough about testing engines under the revised SAE standard, Honda has still let some new engines slip through with the Japanese figures, without correcting for test conditions or units.
  16. Current diesels are Euro4 at best. These new engines will have to be better than Euro5, with a big hurdle being NOx emissions. Current solutions are centered on a urea additive, which the EPA approves but doesn't like, since it relies on people refilling it.

  18. Bio diesel doesn't require the same kind of changes as running E85 or E100. Although not officially sanctioned, it is usually possible to run a diesel on biodiesel blends (which are all different) without modification. Unlike ethanol, where engine programing and fuel systems have to upgraded, with biodiesel the fuel is modified to run in the same engines as petroleum diesel. Depending on the source it will not only be renewable, but usually far cleaner.
  19. A couple a day anyway, but you can have far more diet soda 32 oz v. 24 oz for men or just 12 oz for women. A digression but while we're on beverages, a brief rundown on milk products: Homogenised milk- Milk with the cream in suspension (the fat droplets are usually smashed into very small bits by blasting onto a hard surface). Skim milk- milk after the cream is skimmed off. Butter milk- the liquid remaining after the solid fats (butter) have been seperated from the cream. In retail use, skim milk cultured with lactobacillus (as yoghurt) to resemble cultured buttermilk. Yoghurt- milk infected with strains of lactobacillus, increasing it's "thickness". Curds- coagulated milk produced by a curdling or "setting" agent such as an acid or an enzyme such as rennet - the most basic form of cheese, in a semi-liquid state. Whey- the liquid left after the curds have been seperated-often thrown away by cheesemakers unaware of its value (low in fat and high in protein). Junket-milk curdled by rennet and sweetened and often flavored, i.e. sweetened curds and whey. Watch out for spiders when eating on tuffets.
  20. Outlander goes away soon (or at least as soon as they can get rid of the current inventory—maybe a year or so), the new model is a 5/7-seat midsize crossover very similar to the new SantaFe, Captiva and CX-7.
  21. where are you?
  22. Don't count on it, not when European luxury manufacturers have similar small cars.

  25. If you're going to quote a dictionary: Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary 1 ho·mo·sex·u·al Pronunciation: "hO-m&-'sek-sh(&-)w&l, -'sek-sh&l Function: adjective 1 : of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex 2 homosexual Function: noun : a homosexual person and especially a male Last time checked humans didn't change sex as they become adults (not naturally anway). Men who molest boys aren't the only ones to deny they're homosexual, plenty of men regularly have sex with other males and yet don't identify themselves as homosexual or even bisexual. That's like eating meat every day but identifying yourself as vegetarian. Or saying you're not an athiest, you just don't believe there's any god (I'm deliberately avoiding negative examples because I know you'll take offence). It's self-deception. Yoiu can be starved for sex all you like, but when you start seeing a fellow inmate a potential sex partner, dude, you've crossed over to homosexuality. When you decide to hang up the white sheet it's time to join the mailing list. As for not allowing homosexual priests, there's no point discussing it, either you accept it or not. Allowing priests to marry isn't going to stop paedophilia among the clergy, as it will still be an attractive position for those so inclined. It's only less noticeable among married clergy because paedophiles often find keeping up a marital relationship difficult (and if they don't they may abuse their own children/stepchildren rather than those of the congregation). People become clergymen for many reasons. Unfortunately devoting their lives to the service of God is not always even on the list.
