They should try the coupe in very limited numbers, in an SS type model, with appropriate performance, bigger tires/rims, etc.
-
So the Impala LS now gets the old SS grille... wow, big change... I have an '06 Impala SS that I love, but I'm ready for a new car -- it'll be interesting to see what the new LT and LTZ look like -- Hopefully they do something with the rear deck, including round taillights --- never was a fan of those triangular lights that looked like so many other cars -- Some interior upgrades wouldn't hurt, either...
-
I can't wait to see the full reveal --- hope the rear end doesn't look too big... Also hope the powertrain offerings will give the car good performance... The current 2.4 is OK, but just barely --
-
New Impala powertrain? How bout a new Impala? Seriously... GM has been taking way too long in re-doing this car!
-
Well, let's take a trip down the Chevrolet memory lane -- Bel Air Biscayne Del Rey Deluxe Chevette Chevelle Monza Berlinetta Cameo Celebrity Concours I think that Chevette or Celebrity would be great for the Cruze -- Chevelle would be too large and sporty for an econobox....
-
Let the pickups and SUV's go for awhile longer --- they'll sell at current levels as long as gas prices don't go crazy -- What GM needs to do is focus like a laser beam on CARS -- especially on the upcoming Cruze and Volt, and on replacements for the Malibu and especially Impala. If what I hear is right, and the Cruze has another crummy, powerless GM engine in it, that's a disaster in the making. I hate to say this but Ford is on the right track with the Focus, Fusion and Taurus, and GM needs Chevy models to properly compete. It should be almost all about Chevy now for awhile. Buick has its new models coming, Caddy probably needs a new DTS, but not much else.

Impala SS Dead, Models Lose some Uniqueness.
62impala replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in Chevrolet
Well, I own an '06 Impala SS -- before this car, I had an '03 Cadillac Deville -- I like the size of the Impala, and I love the power of the V8 -- At the time, it was a nice update of the '00 Impala, and while the SS isn't exactly a sport sedan in the tradition of the Impalas of old, it's still a fine car, and offers great value for the price. It could be a little quieter inside, and the suspension could be a bit tighter, but other than that, I really enjoy driving it. I like the new Malibu, too, but I need something just a little bigger. I hope GM doesn't wait too long before putting a new Impala on the road. The next one better have 6 round taillights!! Mine only has 30K miles on it, and is in showroom condition (white exterior, gray leather interior, woodgrain dash trim; I had the windows tinted and added some very cool silver pinstriping along the beltline), so I can wait for another couple of years before I have to replace it, but I want to replace it with another Chevy of the same size, not with a smaller Malibu. -
Put a Malibu nose on this, and 3 round taillights per side on the trunk, like the '65 Impala (larger maybe), and get this into the American market in 2010.... What the hell is GM thinking by not letting us have this Chevy here in the States? This is the new Impala we want and need NOW!!

GM's Ed Peper promises Chevrolet will gain market share in 2009
62impala replied to Intrepidation's topic in General Motors
I think a Malibu coupe or convertible would sell well, and not take away from the new Camaro, but I could be wrong; I'm all for a completely new Impala, but given all of GM's troubles now, I figured that the best way to get an updated Impala would be to freshen the current one. -

The fastest way for Chevrolet to gain market share would be to: 1. Expedite getting the Cruze into the domestic market; 2. Get a hot looking coupe and/or convertible Malibu out; 3. Do SOMETHING with the Impala NOW, even if its just new front and rear clips. Impala is their largest selling car, so why is it taking so long to replace or even re-fresh it?? -
Cadillac introduces the new presidential limo
62impala replied to Intrepidation's topic in General Motors
Pics of the current model are all over.. wikipedia under Cadillac One or Presidential Limo --- I'd paste them here if i knew how ---- The current car is a bit lower to the ground, and has a true DTS front end clip and rear end treatment -- it looks like a Cadillac. This new one does not look like a traditional Cadillac vehicle (which it isn't, come to think of it). I just think the current one looks better. -

Ugh, not much of a fan; maybe it will grow on me, but right now I think the current DTS based Cadillac One is much better looking; it looks like a car, not some parts-bin half Escalade, half STS amalgam... Also, the wheels totally suck; they couldnt use some nice 20 inch starburst type Escalade wheels? Seriously, this thing is butt-ugly. I'm all in favor of removing all hints of the Bush administration, but this just does not do it for me at all. Actually, now that I think about it, Joe Biden will probably get the current DTS model, so he'll have a nicer car than his boss... -
GM snuffs Holden's global RWD dream
62impala replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Heritage Marques
Well this really sucks for the next generation Impala then --- what do I replace my 06 Impala SS with - a new Malibu? I don't think so.... GM should dump the G8 and make that the next Impala, at least as a stop-gap for a few years. Seriously, this is terrible news for future full-sized GM sedans, and especially bad for Chevrolet, which now has a very dated flagship model. I might have to look at a new Lacrosse or buy a slightly used DTS now... -
Well, I hope that they are working on a new Impala, or at least a freshened version of the current one. It wouldn't take too much of an effort to make the current Impala look a lot better, even tho I love my '06 SS that I have now. New Malibu/Traverse-like front clip, round taillights, just a bit more sound deadening, bolster the seats a bit, maybe revise the dash just a little to cut down on the daytime glare on the radio, and that would do it for a few more years, until a totally new model is ready. This is a great car that needs to have some attention paid to it by Chevrolet. I'll be ready for a new one in '09 or '10, and I sure don't want to choose between an Impala that is in it's fourth year of production, or something totally new from another GM division, like the new CTS.

2009 Chevrolet Traverse Preview
62impala replied to Intrepidation's topic in Chicago Auto Show (CAS)
Well, I really like it, though I do have a couple of comments -- The front of the vehicle looks great, though I would like to see the hoodline and headlights slope down just a bit more, and I really wish that they would incorporate some license plate holder into the bottom of the grille area; otherwise they are going to do what they've done to the Impala and Malibu, which is to bolt on those ugly black license plate holders to the lower grille and totally interrupt the sleek nature of the car. The side view is awesome; very sleek, and you can tell from the 3rd row window that the Traverse is a bit longer than the other Lambdas... I love the shoulder flares just below the 3rd row window. The tailgate needs just a little tweaking; I would add another taillight to both sides, a la the Impalas of old, and I would increase the size of the taillights by about 25 or maybe 50 percent; then I would move that gold bowtie down, just below the creaseline of the tailgate, so that it could lay flat rather than at an angle as it is now. I think these suggestions would do wonders to improve the appearance of the tailgate. The interior is beautiful, but I hope they offer a wood trim package, which would look great, especially in the cashmere interior; the metal/chrome/whatever stuff they are using on the dash just doesn't look so hot. For those of us who expected this to be just a Malibu grille slapped onto an otherwise re-badged Outlook, this new Traverse is outstanding. I'm even getting used to the name, though it's not one of my all-time favorites. If any of you phtotochop guys want to play around with my tailgate suggestions, I'd love to see how it looks. Well done, Chevy and GM!! -
Debate not yet settled, but Lutz thinks Impala will be FWD
62impala replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
Well, I had a tough time deciding between an 06 Impala SS or a Buick Lucerne; i ultimately went with the Impala because of the price, but I loved the Lucerne's style and the way it drove, especially in V8 mode. If GM took the Lucerne and made it into a Impala or Caprice, that would work great with me. -
The local dealer fixed it under warranty, without any problems -- it was quite awhile ago, so I don't have the paperwork any longer, so I can't help you on the cost.

The last generation vans did not fail because there were too many of them; they failed because they were lousy minivans; too narrow, terrible styling, especially in the last few years when they tried to make them look like SUV's with those truck-like front ends. Bad styling, bad model names (Uplander? Terraza?), poorly marketed. GM has done many things well over the years, but minivans have never been one of them. From the dustbusters of the early 90's and the Venture and Uplander, GM and Chevrolet have just never done minivans very well. They are never going to make much of an impact in that market, with Honda, Toyota, Chrysler and Kia owning the bulk of it, so it's time to move on to something that GM does well, and that's the SUV, and now, with the Lambdas, the intermediate sized crossovers.
-
Look, I'm not trying to offend anyone, and I've owned several Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs, and even a Cadillac once -- but just look at the GM domestic sales numbers, and the bulk of them come from Chevrolet and Cadillac. I think it's fine for Buick to have the Lucerne and Enclave, and perhaps one other mid-size car (the Lacrosse doesn't seem to be doing all that well, however); and Pontiac seems primed for a nice run with the G8, and the existing G6, but let's face facts: Chevy and Caddy basically are what is carrying GM now, and, as the owner of 3 Chevy cars right now ('06 Impala SS, '05 Tahoe LT, and my son's '03 Blazer), I'm fine with that. As far as all these comments that the new Chevy Lambda should be a minivan with sliding doors, all I can say is that GM has never been much of a factor in the minivan business, and the Uplander is not only ugly, but poorly named, and I say that as a total Chevy guy. Chevy and GM should put their resources into this new Traverse (God, I hope they come up with a better name), and a revised Equinox to compete with the Ford triplets in the small SUV market (Escape, Mariner, Tribute). It's my opinion that the small and mid-size SUV and crossover market is where the sales will be, going forward.
-
F _ _ K the sliding doors, already.... GM needs to sack up, and stay the hell out of the minivan business, because they were NEVER any good at it, and it's a dying breed anyway, especially with all these Lambdas and other crossovers. GM should just take the Outlook away from Saturn, slap a few bowties on it, and sell the hell out of these, once they put a decent name on it (NOT TRAVERSE), although I do tend to agree that Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealers have one Lambda too many. I could care less if the Chevy model takes sales away from the other GM divisions; in a few years, all GM is going to be is Chevy and Cadillac, anyway. I would like to see this model spruced up a bit; black eggcrate inserts in the grille, revise that rear quarter panel window which looks very lame; some large round taillights and maybe some stainless steel strips on the tailgate to remind us of the Nomads of the mid 50's.... Chevy needs to consider this car as the Tahoe and/or Impala/Kingswood wagon of the late 00's and really give it some Chevrolet heritage styling cues, and a killer name, and, trust me, "Traverse" ain't it.
-
It had better not look like that -
-
-
I mentioned this in another chat line --- Chevy needs to put an '08 Malibu-like grille on the Outlook, but change the rear taillights and tailgate; make the lights more like the SRX or whatever the Caddy version of this is, and maybe go with some Nomad heritage and put those cool looking stainless steel strips on the tailgate. This car has the possibility of being Chevy's hot selling new wagon, if they do it right. Not at all crazy about "Traverse" being the name though.... Why not a name from the Chevrolet heritage bin? Cheyenne? Brookwood/Parkwood/Lakewood/Kingswood? Greenbrier? Scottsdale? Townsman? Del Rey? or --- put a huge sunroof option on it, and call it Bel Air!!!!

That color is Bermuda Blue, and it is AWESOME!! My 2005 Tahoe is that exact same color, and we get compliments on it all the time...
-
Well... This is a very nice looking replacement for the current generation of the Malibu; more upscale look, both inside and out, no question. I like the front end clip, but my feeling is that the hood is too short -- it should extend down maybe another 6 inches at least, and the twin grille should move down also. Also: where is the license plate holder to go? Please, not the same setup as on the current Impala, with some $3 black plastic, bolt-on thing that completely interrupts the flow of the front of the car. I just bought a new '07 Impala SS, and if I didn't live in California (which requires a front license plate), I would go to my local body shop and have that ugly thing removed and have the holes filled in and painted over. Very poor planning there. The side view of the new Malibu is very attractive; different rear doors from the Aura, nice chrome accents below the doors; the wheels are very sharp. The rear of the car is nice but the trunk seems to stop very abruptly. The taillights have that same damned triangular pod look that almost every car has now, so not very creative at all. I would have much preferred that they place another taillight on each side of the trunk, to at least give the car some Chevy heritage. Still, it's not a bad look, but not very original. As for the interior: I dont care all that much for the instrument panel pod -- way too small for a car of this size -- and i do not at all like that huge concave space above the glove box -- but I guess I need to see it in person first before making a definitive comment. The interior colors and matierials look like a huge leap upscale, which is a great improvement for GM; they finally are getting some nice interiors. However.... How about making up your mind on the location of the ingition switch?? It has now moved back to the instrument panel, even though the new Impala has moved it from the IP back to the steering column. Come on guys: make up your mind, already!! SO.... is this the "homerun" that we have been hearing so much about? Umm... no.... But, to continue the baseball analogies, this new Malibu is at least a solid double, maybe even more. Will it inflict serious damage to the Accord and Camry? Probably not, but even if it just dings them up a bit, with annual sales in the 250-300K range, it will have done its job, and I think those figures are very doable with this new Malibu. Note to Chevrolet and GM: Nice job on the 2008 Malibu, guys, but here is your warning: better get the fenceposts out of your butts when you do the 2010 Impala. That car had better be stunning, GM's new "gotta have" car -- or else you guys are in big trouble.
