  1. No, i has to far outclass the competition and it has to continually do it for several generations. Reputations are not easy to get, and easy to lose.
  2. Good old fashion American ingenuity, great marketing, great PR. Americans take note of class leaders, not also rans.
  3. Well, it is entirely the fault of poor management in GM/Chrysler for the past forever years. A well structured GM or Chrysler should have been able to weather this downturn. At least Ford got good management in right in the nick of time to create massively great PR and restructure themselves soundly.
  4. Well i know people who wont buy Chrysler because the government bailed them out in the 80s. This will not go over well, things should have just been settled in court from the git go.
  5. Its kinda funny, if you look closely at the income tax brackets, it is actually negative in the lowest segments (the government pays more than would be refunded just from withholdings) and then steadily progresses up to 35% with reduced credits for people in those categories. In total, i think only 60-70% of Americans actually end up paying Federal income taxes, the remainder get all their withholding's back.
  6. Uhhh the insurance companies still deal with your family? How much do they charge you???? 4x the normal rates?
  7. There is a big difference between a band-aided together economy & a good economy. The path Bush lead us down, with Obama gleefully following, is the former. What seems great TODAY may suck TOMORROW. But Politicians do not care, they only care about votes and being re-elected; which i why i have little faith in either party for actually paving the way for a strong, sustainable, economy.
  8. Naw, you probably didn't make little enough. the EIC has fairly low thresholds, & additional child tax credits are even harder to get.
  9. Ah, well then yes you are a very keen investor.
  10. Oh trust me i know of how leverage affects returns. It just affects negative returns far more than it affects positive returns. And i am not the risk taker.
  11. Ah that's called an investment on margins you capitalist pig. The downside is if the stock loses money, your now out for what you lost PLUS the debt.
  12. Wow i never heard this story and i was reading the news at least 5 times a day around that time last year! I don't even know how you could muster up the bravery to do such a dangerous run... 14 times!
  13. sodium
  14. This is nothing new, the marines were heavily involved in such matters way back when i believe. I think it may be time that we, as an international community, lift the ban on armaments on commercial traffic... if a commercial ship can ward off pirates by themselves, we as the taxpayer save money. Either that or Blackwater can get into the private shipping security business. I have a question, if we are just sailing around there for the hell of it, and pirates attack our boat and we kill the pirates, can we claim their ship as our own?
  15. Alienate Union workers all across America & lose a large segment of votes, or do whats right for GM... Hmmmm.... If Obama actually does whats right for GM while compromising himself among union workers, i will be very impressed by his character.
  16. Glad to know I'm not the only "cheapskate" around here. Live within your means today, live better tomorrow.
  17. Aww, well there is an old WW2 Diesel Sub out in the bay if you like that sort of thing up in SF.
  18. Well its bad compared to what I'm used to, which is no gridlock ever Although i do recall leaving LA one night after a Dodger game and there being absolutely no one on the I5, that was nice.
  19. You should see all the credits and refundable credits that the less fortunate people are eligible for. Just don't make so much money & have a lot of kids and the government will cut you a nice check every tax year, oh and be married while you do it.
  20. Oy LA traffic >< LA is a big place, lots to do, lots of neat things to see, but oh boy the traffic >< Enjoy your trip to SoCal, hopefully you will be able to see some of the Californian Gold colored mountains that non-Californians seem to enjoy so much.
  21. Tell that to Apple in its rejuvenation.
  22. You all are forgetting that if we didn't have a central bank that has been artificially keeping interest rates down since the Clinton administration; in addition to having policies encouraging banks to lend to the less well off as a condition of their continued ability to receive money from the Federal government that this bubble would not have occurred. Interest rates would simply have been too high for people to accept these stupid loans, the housing market would never have gotten so hot and housing prices wouldn't have been rising at the rate they were. Since there would still have been eligible people for regular prime mortgages who simply didn't want to get a mortgage because the interest rates were too high there would not have been a sub prime mess. Blame the root of the cause, not its symptoms.
  23. Meh, do you really expect a Senator not to try and protect something in their district? I mean really, that's what politicians of all walks of life do. You don't get re-elected if you just say, "oh yeah we don't need those 1000 jobs." If GM was threatening to close down NUMMI I'm sure ole Boxer or Feinstein or whoevers district it is in would raise some ruckus over it. As for the whole not favoring the bailout thing, don't let political bickering distort your objective view of what is best for GM. Labor is cheapest in the South, it does not really make sense to move manufacturing to an area with higher labor costs and no gain in logistics or quality. Given the terrible state of the economy in Michigan, i would think labor would be cheap up there too.
  24. Is he related to Hulk Hogan?
