  1. What's next? A MacGyver movie?
  2. Fair enough - but would this not label you a non-GM fan?
  3. OK.... quote #1 - See how well paying for the cost of their obesity is working NOW to lessen obesity??? Sure, a few more fat people might use the government system as an excuse not to lose weight. I seriously doubt that number would be significant. quote #2 - This would be absolute POLITICAL SUICIDE for any party who did it. "Hey Jimmy, why aren't you voting Republican this time around? I thought they were your party?" "Those f#%#ers made me quit smoking! I want to hang that m#%@#%f@#$er!!!!" Can you see any party banning smoking and getting reelected in the next 20 years? Seriously?
  4. All you healthcare naysayers - you realize the lack of a national healthcare system is essentially what's sinking GM, right??? I remember hearing that $1500 of the cost of every vehicle goes to just health care. A national system would spread the cost more, and they also tend to be more cost-efficient. So, say a national system would add $500 a vehicle in tax (I think even that's a little high). So GM saves $1000 a vehicle right there. How can you support a private healthcare system and be a GM fan at the same time?
  5. Not even sure WHAT you could call me obsessed with - I'm definately NOT on this list.
  6. Ontario already has the "Drive Clean" program where you have to get cars between 4 and 20 years old tested to make sure they don't pollute badly. If they fail you have to get them fixed to get them registered again. So, this program won't be doing that much for the air anyways.
  7. Could this be the basis for another "Unsafe at any speed"?
  8. You can't take the opinions of some as the opinions of the country, and more importantly, the government. I went to Ottawa a couple years ago when Bush made his first visit to Canada. Now let me make this clear. I hate George Bush but have no problem with the US in general. Some of the people there and what they were saying however, made it clear that there ARE Canadians who HATE the US with every ounce they have. That doesn't mean that Canadians in general have a problem with the US, or that the US should stop relations with Canada...
  9. I can see hostility directed towards North Korea here. Perfectly justified. However, what I don't get is the hint of anti-Japanese and anti-Chinese sentiments here. I'm not going to argue about Russia here, becuase I'm still not sure how real the threat of the Cold War really was. However, the war with Japan was so long ago - everything has changed since then. What baffles me is that some people have forgiven Germany but not Japan - racism at its' worst. I will be interested to see how the 2008 Beijing olympics go. Attitudes in China have changed DRASTICALLY over the last 30 or so years. China is no longer truly communism. They learned from the Soviet Union that hanging on to communism 'til the bitter end is suicide. Monetary freedom (capitalism) is slowly creeping in. Sure, there are still communist jobs for those who can't find capitalist jobs - but even the USA has welfare! At least these people are doing something (in the worst case, sweeping the streets), rather than just sitting there collecting a cheque. As this monetary freedom spreads and the average person becomes self-sufficient and buys cars, etc. freedom spreads. Political freedom will follow. In large cities you can already see the seeds of change. Falun Gong was a religion outlawed by the government in recent years. Even that is no longer 'taboo', there was a tent in Beijing when I was there handing out information. Nobody was hassling them, and there were soldiers from the Chinese Army right across the street. Those of you who remember Tienanmen Square as the site of the massacre would be shocked to see the state of politics in China now. Remember, that happened in 1989. For such a large country, they are changing shockingly fast. I will be interested to see how they handle the 2008 olympics. It is a big opportunity for them to present the modern China to the world, and hope that it changes a few minds.
  10. My condo purchase went quite well.
  11. Heard of Metric and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs? They're two good rock bands with female singers.
  12. I was looking at McDonald's spread across the globe, and noticed this rather strange statement in the article: "No two countries that both had McDonald's had fought a war against each other since each got its McDonald's" Strange coincidence, but why would they say this? Also their choice of when and where to expand seems rather odd. Countries to get McDonalds first: 1. US 2. Canada 3. Costa Rica 4. Japan The UK even was way down the list...
  13. I usually hate pop, especially the videos, but I admit to watching Rihanna videos and drooling uncontrollably. I'm not usually attracted to black women, but she is HOT.
  14. Hazel "Her name was Mabel, her eyes are hazel..." - Goldfinger, "Mabel"
  15. I can't be bothered to check every feature to see if there is a difference between the base models, but the Cobalt is listed at cad$14,710 base msrp, while the G5 is cad$15,140.
  16. I think this must have been misreported in the Canadian media somewhere. A few of my friends tried to tell me they closed Oshawa altogether. I had to explain to them that they only cut the 3rd shift. How common is it for a plant to have 3 shifts anyways?
  17. I gave up on a few topics loading this morn around 8:30 am edst. Not sure why it would be so slow early in the morn.
  18. I'm seeing tons of these things already. As long as it's not stealing sales from G6 I don't see a problem. Sure, it's stealing Cobalt sales, but don't Pontiacs usually carry a slight price premium anyways?
  19. Funniest thing about the opposing wipers is being able to soak people on either side of the car. Friend of mine went into a store when it was raining lightly. I turned off my wipers when he got out of the car, and quickly flipped them to 'high' as he walked past the windshield, back to the passenger door. He got SOAKED.
  20. I've never had a drive-through screw up my order. Is that really a common concern?
  21. That GXP looks awesome. I liked my 99 Lumina, and miss it in some ways. Sure was more practical than a Cobalt coupe for hauling people.
  22. I just looked at Auto Trader to see a complete list of all manufacturer names with used cars for sale in Canada right now. None of them are or start with a 4 letter word with a T as the third character. I'm at a loss.
  23. IMO, as long as you're not stoned at work I see no problem with it. Drug tests will even find what you did on the weekend. I object to that - what I do on the weekend should be my business.
  24. Do they actually drug test you?
