  1. The stickers on Canadian car windows are in L/100km and mpg - but the mpg are the Imperial type (since Canada used this before going to Metric in 1977). Makes the sticker on the really efficient cars seem that much more impressive. Manual 2.2L Cobalt in Imperial MPG: 31/48 Manual Yaris: 41/51
  2. A race to 9.37 million vehicles for both companies ends in a win by 3 thousand. That's insane. To put it into perspective: 9,369,524 - 9,366,000 = 3,524 gap 3,524 / 9,369,524 = 0.03% If 9,369,524 cars represents a quarter mile, then 3,524 represents... roughly half a foot. So if this was a drag race, GM just won by 6 inches.
  3. Solution: Run around the house naked anyways. He'll be more motivated to leave.
  4. This thread is patiently waiting to make the days of Fly, 68, FOG, and Oldsmoboi.
  5. Just curious? What is 'your generation'? I had barely even heard of this movie, and I'm 24.
  6. Well... I hadn't noticed the threads indicating that it had happened before... When I saw it, the site was inaccessible for about 10 minutes. It just reminded me of all the old hosting issues, and I just thought, oh crap on a stick, NOT AGAIN! Sorry for the overreaction but at the time it didn't look good!
  7. How much do we need to donate this time??
  8. My guess on the lack of Sixty8 response: 1. He found that one pic where it looks like there's no B-pillar. 2. Jaw drops as he asks, can it be?? He looks for more info and finds the quote from Bob Lutz saying there is none. 3. Hops a flight to Detroit so he can try to become Mrs. Maximum Bob.
  9. What does the Mexican Pimp say to his 'ladies' when they start complaining? Take it E-C, HO! I laugh a little every time I look at an Echo now. Take your normal pimping wares, add sombrero and substitute Echo for Cadillac.
  10. Of all the places in Canada to make somebody from Detroit feel right at home, Scarborough just might be the one. :AH-HA_wink:
  11. Look up the political definitions of "Right" and "Left" wing. Republicans: Right wing. Democrats: Slightly less right wing. I feel for you Americans, having to vote with no real choice. The multi-party system we have in Canada gives real options.
  12. In the Toronto Star today, there was a picture of a Volvo V40 wagon practically folded in half from a big tree landing on it. Thankfully it was parked with nobody inside. So Volvo, you have a rollover test, where's your tree-falls-on-car test? :AH-HA_wink:
  13. Apparently I spoke too soon on the wierd day. A coworker went home to work from there where the power outages won't be as much of an interruption. He's very thankful now that he made that decision, because the wind blew around the power line running to his house and caught his roof on fire. He detected it early enough to save the house. Probably if he'd stayed here he would have come home tonight to a burned down house.
  14. The wind around here is crazy, trucks were getting blown all over the highway on my way in this morning. The power keeps going out every half hour and taking out the network. Fun. I blame the wind. For some reason it's 11AM and the whole lab smells like fried chicken, but nobody knows why, or where the chicken is. Not sure if I can blame the wind for that one. Shaping up to be a strange day. Anybody else experience crazy winds?
  15. This thread also points out the imbalance in North American political interest. Canadians know who most of the important American candidates are. Most Americans probably don't even know who the Prime Minister of Canada is, or what party he represents. I'm not saying there's anything wrong here, it's just amusing.
  16. 1. Theoretical Ideal Candidate (100%) 2. Dennis Kucinich (90%) 3. Barack Obama (88%) 4. Alan Augustson (campaign suspended) (85%) 5. Christopher Dodd (withdrawn) (81%) 6. Joseph Biden (withdrawn) (80%) 7. Hillary Clinton (78%) Never heard of this Kucinich. When exactly do the parties actually choose their candidates??
  17. Hi everybody! So glad I could make it to the C+G potluck!! Here's what I brought... *looks around* Oh snap! Sly already brought the wine! Sweet!
  18. A friend of mine had this with a Mazda MX-6. For him, it was a minor 'leak' between the car's alternator system (which is tied to engine RPMs) and the wires of the stereo. The little bit of electricity coming from the alternator came out as a whine that matched the engine noise.
  19. Take your age, minus seven, and double it.
  20. My parents have the same spread but 5 years older... '48 and '52. My mother's parents were a strange coincidence with birthdays. 7/28/28 and 7/29/29
  21. How appropriate, given the thread I just started. This man is dirty. I'd high five him if I could.
