This is like a movie where you already know the plot. It's playing out precisely, frame by frame.

General Motors Death Watch 63: GM RIP
mustang84 replied to buyacargetacheck's topic in General Motors
The news just keeps getting more depressing each passing day. -
I didn't want to steer Croc's "Cooking with Croc" thread too far off topic, but I found a couple of the posts in there interesting about Nutrasweet found in diet drinks and other synthetic sugar products. I had never heard any of this info before about how bad aspartame can be for you. I did a little research and came up with some suprising results on how dangerous this artificial sweetener really is. My mom drinks a lot of diet drinks, so I'm kinda worried for her health after reading some of this. Read the rest of it here My question is, how in the heck did the FDA allow aspartame to be approved if it is known that heating it above 86 F will be damaging to one's health? Why has the public not been informed of the dangers posed by this product? Is it so Nutrasweet and other companies won't go out of business? And why was there such a scuffle in the early 80s to get this product approved that the FDA commissioner against aspartame had to be fired and replaced with someone who would approve it? It all sounds fishy to me. Thoughts?

BMW China Partner Brilliance Sets 2007 US Rollout
mustang84 replied to VenSeattle's topic in Other Makes
Well, it looks put together better than some of the other Chinese cars I have seen, but I'll put money down that it still crumples up like tin foil during crash tests. -
Awesome find...the pics are big, too!

You're in good company. I'm 21 and also a fan of 87-93 fox-bodies. They're on my list of cars I wouldn't mind getting after I get rid of the Lumina in another year or so. I don't really know why I like fox-bodies so much, but I've always had a thing for them. I'm also a GM man too...I get the Ford from my grandpa and the GM from my dad, who owns a '68 Corvette and a '78 Corvette. My grandpa used to have a hot rodded '32 Ford deuce coupe back in the day but now drives a 2005 Grand Marquis. Anyway, welcome and enjoy your stay!

Looks like C&D (Crap&Drivel) is really "down" with their vocabulary skillz. Why do I still have a subscription to them? -
More...it sounds like it isn't necessarily Hyundai that is in trouble, but rather this Kim guy who was head of Glovis, a Hyundai subsidiary. Hyundai Motor Raid Sends Industry Reeling Korea’s auto industry was in shock on Monday after prosecutors raided the headquarters of Hyundai Motor and subsidiaries in their investigation of a local lobbyist. Kim Jae-rok stands accused of bribing and illegally lobbying politicians and officials on the firms’ behalf. Hyundai Motor affiliates saw their stock prices plunge, and the move is expected to be damaging for the Korean car industry as a whole. Foreign institutional investors vainly tried to make up for heavy selling by small shareholders. Hyundai affiliate Glovis, which is suspected of creating a huge slush fund for Kim to draw on, saw its share price fall by 15 percent, the maximum permitted range for one day, and other issues like Hyundai Autonet also dropped by more than 10 percent. Major Hyundai Automotive group subsidiaries Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors and Hyundai Movis fell 2.58 percent, 2.21 percent and 0.36 percent. “It is hard to predict how the investigation will develop, but the investigation itself is a negative factor for share prices in the short term,” an official with a local securities firm said. Hyundai Motor was reeling from the blow. Some staffers said it was unlikely the nation’s biggest automaker would be in serious trouble, but the arrest of Glovis president Lee Ju-eun in the afternoon silenced them. Hyundai Automotive Group chairman Chung Mong-koo and his son Chung Eui-sun, the Kia Motors president, reportedly did not show up at company headquarters in Seoul and were briefed at a distance. S. Korea raids Hyundai offices in slush funds probe SEOUL, South Korea -- South Korean prosecutors said they raided the offices of Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest automaker, and its units Kia Motors Corp. and Glovis Co. as part of an investigation into slush funds used to lobby the government. Hyundai Motor spokesman Lee Ki Hoon, Kia Motors spokesman Woo Sang Kyun and a Glovis financial officer, Joo Il Hak, confirmed raids took place Sunday in Seoul. They declined to elaborate. Prosecutors raided the offices on suspicions funds used for illegal lobbying by Hyundai Motor were funneled through Glovis, said Chae Dong Wook, the prosecutor in charge of the investigation at the Supreme Public Prosecutors Office. The spokesmen at Hyundai Motor and the two units declined to comment on the prosecutor's comments. DetNews

Do you have to pay to listen to the shows on that site? I've heard a few Art Bell shows and they are pretty entertaining. It's been a while since I've listened to one though.

What the hell? Did the Village People say "screw Disco" and go New Wave instead?

I vote this as one of the most disturbing album covers ever. Runner up

Way to be objective and fair. That's pretty bad if Toyota is targeting the Camry toward 50 year olds...no wonder the Toyota brand is starting to get an "old person's car" stigma. Hence, why Scion was created.

I believe this is the first time a foreign auto manufacturer has paced the Indy 500 as well. All past pace cars have been from GM, Ford, and Chrysler.

After seeing the high-res pics of the Camry and Lucerne interiors that toyoguy posted, I'm even less impressed with the Camry's interior. It's so damn boring. The Lucerne has a nice mixture of color, warm wood, etc...the Camry has huge slabs of gray dash with nothing on them. I do like the look of the center stack of the Camry, but otherwise it's nothing special.
-
Well, the SR-V does kinda look like it could be something made by Whirlpool.
-
I disagree. The Impala is bland and the Malibu is a little funky looking, but both are proportioned right. The new Camry looks like a slab, and it has a huge butt with design cues that just seems to be sporadically placed here and there. The Chrysler 300 is also a slab, but it's an aggressive, eye-catching slab. The Camry is not.

Camry CLPE (Cute Lil' Piggy Edition) Edit: sorry about the multiple postings earlier....C&G pooped out on me right as I was posting, and I think hitting refresh a few times made things worse.

I used to not like the styling on the '95-'99 Montes, but now that my sister owns one, it's grown on me. I still think GM should have not killed the G-body in '88...but that's old history. Anyway, news of a new Monte sounds great...I hope it's a true 2-door large coupe with spacious backseat area. The Camaro should be smaller and more agile, but the Monte should still handle pretty well. As for an El Camino, I seriously hope they don't just slap a Chevy front end on the Holden Ute. The rear end of the Ute looks pretty dated (like most Holden designs)...I'd like to see something crisper and bolder. Can we please call the Buick sedan Invicta, Electra, or Roadmaster? Statesman is so...old school. Overall, this is great news!
