  1. I hope they keep the $1 bill. I'd rather carry around a wad of $1's than a wad of coins, and I always tend to wind up with a bunch of ones. Twos are still in circulation and still being printed by the US Mint. Most people think businesses don't accept them anymore, but they are still legal tender. According to the Mint, they print a few hundred thousand every few years. The reason they lost popularity and everybody thinks they are discontinued is because it was introduced in 1976 for the Bicentennial, and people thought they were a limited edition thing, so they hoarded them and they never got widely circulated. I used a two recently when I went to Taco Bell because I discovered I only had one $1 left.
  2. No, the media is not responsible for all of GM's problems, but the bias exists, just like the bias against American cars exists in the general American public. Has everyone forgotten about the Five Hundred review where the car got slammed badly and then a second writer from the same publication wrote up a piece about how his colleague was being pretty unfair because it was a Ford product? There was also the review recently about the Lucerne by a guy who wrote an import tuner book and had nothing better to say than Buick was still a gramps division...his review of the Lucerne was contrary to every review I had read about it. Then who can forget about that hack that loved her 1985 Corolla and quoted some "expert" that knew absolutely nothing about the auto industry, spewing more doom-and-gloom without highlighting anything positive going on at the Big 2. However, I think GM will overcome perceptions. I agree with this article and believe General Motors will be going at full throttle in a few years, posting profits and market share gains. The bias and perceptions only serve to push GM harder at improving itself. You can kick a dog when he's down, but you better be running for home when he recovers his strength, because he's going to bite you in the ass.
  3. I'm just planning on going home Saturday and coming back Sunday evening. We'll go to mass Sunday morning and then either eat out afterward or my mom will make an Easter dinner. I also might try to go golfing if I have the time.

I followed it for a while but lost interest after the fifty millionth proposal change. I've never really been impressed with Liebeskind's proposal, especially the initial one...it looked like a ruin. What is a WOP architect? Well, right now, the only one single in that pic is the blonde...and she's not really my type. A little too high maintenance for me, even though she's a good friend. Hey now! We can drink in the dorm I'm in if you're 21 and over...although everyone else in that pic is under 21. I'm holding a Hornsby's...and the Cap'n is hanging out on the desk.

Nope, she's not there. Neither is the new one...this pic is from February I think. I had a great time in New York. Our hotel was on 63rd and Central Park West, and the site for our next project was way down in SoHo on Lafayette Street. So, to get the most out of our New York experience, the small group I was in walked the entire 80 block distance down there, and walked the entire 80 block distance back. No subways, no taxis....nothin'. When I got back to the hotel that night, I had four big blisters on my feet that hurt like a mother. Also, the next day we did a big loop from Battery Park City to Wall Street, then up to the Lower East Side, then over to Brooklyn and back across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan. Talk about way to much walking for this Iowan who is used to going everywhere by car! One thing that was different about the lower Manhattan skyline with the WTC gone is how the older Roaring 20s skyscrapers really stand out now. Although the skyline also looks tiny without the twins...I'm glad I got to see them in '95 when they were still there.

Some pics from last semester and this semester Me at the Milwaukee Art Museum by Santiago Calatrava Ahh..college Pic before leaving for my job interview Christmas at my grandparents' house in Chicago In New York last February for an arch trip...I'm on the far left By the way, you'd think blue is my favorite color since every shirt I have on in these pics is some shade of blue...but it's actually green.
  7. It looks like something that came out in 1995. This is a big step backward from the last one.
  8. If there's one thing that DeLorenzo does great, it's lighting a fire under the words in his articles. It's no-holds-barred, unabashed journalism. I actually saved this piece on my hard drive because I enjoyed reading it so much.
  9. I think the reason that architects, pro sports players, etc aren't on there is because there isn't expected to be huge job growth for them. The stats are comparing annual salaries to the job growth, and apparently a software engineer has the best chance to find a job at a good pay. Hey reg, out of curiosity, what is the average annual salary for an architect anyway? Back in high school, I thought I read $56k, but I can't remember.
  10. They stuck a fox-body Cougar window on a Scion...hmm. Overall, it's not very pleasant to look at.
  11. Is this a Corvette that's suspended over your table? Like a whole Corvette?? I'd hope the connections holding that thing up were sturdy...
  12. 9-3 Sport Sedan for me
  13. My dad used to have a diesel VW Rabbit back in the mid 80s. It was off white with tan and orange vinyl stripes on the side I think. It was his winter beater when the Corvettes were in storage.
  14. Thanks for all the comments, everyone. I've been feeling a lot better lately. I hung out with that new girl and we watched movies last night. And as far as I can tell, she's normal...no drama, no secrets, no games. I've been in search of a nice, normal girl here on campus for a while now and have finally found one. It's like a revelation. So things are definitely looking up.
  15. The Greasy Wrench Camshaft's Diesel Delight Yeah...I know all these sound like run-down roadside stands...
  16. This thing rocks! Even though I'm a huge Olds fan, Saturn is really starting to turn around in the design department.
  17. This is a very interesting post, but do you have a link where you got this information from? I'd really like to bookmark the page for future reference.
  18. I need to get a new one. Some of the little trips I make around campus really don't require a car, but our campus is just large enough that walking to certain parts of it can take 25 minutes. A bike would save me a ton of money in gas expenses.
  19. I listen to some progressive rock, but I have no idea what song this is. Of the genre, the only ones I really listen to are Pink Floyd, Rush, Queensryche, Dream Theater, and Blue Oyster Cult. So unless it's something from one of those guys...I have no idea.
  20. Hap-Hap-HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all!
  21. I think the route I'm going to take is just to leave her in the dust without any explanation. There are a few other times this year when I should've done just that, but I didn't. She's attractive, but I just don't want anything to do with her anymore. I almost feel like she's expecting me to come back. I haven't spoken a word to her since the day before her birthday, but last night at our house meeting she went in shortly before me and sat down on the sofa leaving an empty space next to her. So I went over on the other side of the room and leaned up against the window sill. I made no eye contact with her the entire night, even though she kept looking over at me. Hopefully she took the hint. Meanwhile, I sat by this other girl today and things are going pretty well. She's a civil engineering major, blonde, beautiful, and a little shy. Afterwards I walked with her on the way back home and it was just a great day out with the sun shining and the temps perfect. Her 21st birthday is the weekend after easter, so hopefully it'll give me an excuse to hang out with her some more.
  22. 1986 Cutlass Supreme, age 7 or so...I got to steer for a little bit, no pedals though :AH-HA_wink: First time actually driving all by myself was probably our '96 Windstar at age 14...that and our school's Plymouth Breeze are what I learned to drive in
  23. Vipes, please don't do anything crazy. I know it probably hurts like hell...but just take some time to chill and get a clear head. Don't let your emotions take hold of your good judgement...
  24. I'm sorry to hear about your dog, and even more sorry to hear how he was treated. It's tough losing a dog...we had to put my dog down a couple summers ago due to health problems, but he lived a long life...3 months short of 17 years. At least you treated him well...that probably meant a lot to him. Did your parents show any remorse over his death? I don't really know what to tell you...they are you parents. I guess if my parents had been like that to my dog, I would've let them know strongly with words how I felt about it. I don't like to see animals get picked on when they can't defend themselves. But anyway, keep Lucky in your thoughts and don't forget him. I'm sure he's happy wherever he is right now.
  25. Here's some other new bands I've discoverd within the last few months that are pretty awesome...I think most of them have myspace sites with songs uploaded. Edguy - GREAT melody...these are a talented group of musicians. Don't let the name of the band throw you off; when I first saw it, it made me think of a blues rock band with a bunch of old, bald guys...but no, these guys are a mixture of progressive rock and heavy metal. No growly/screeching vocals at all. Many of the songs have an epic quality to them. Check out the songs 'Savage Union' and 'Holy Water'...excellent stuff. Blistered Earth - These guys growl occasionally, but not all the time. They sound very much like early Metallica. Awesome twin guitar solos, great drums and melody. A lot of double bass going on at times. This is what Metallica should be like today...not what they turned out to be post-Black Album. Power of Omens - Very old school Queensryche sound. Big and epic. The vocalist has a great voice, and the melodies are powerful. This may not be most people's cup of tea, but I like it.
