That one Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon or whatever it was called where it was like a hatchback. Anyone remember it? I think it was from the early 80s.

Here's one I dug up from back in the day when I was an internationally known rock star...

I usedd to think that Acura, Infinti, and Lexus were all Americna brands back when I was a little kid.

I'm not really going to get into this whole argument too much, but I'll just say that my mom who works at a school district with about 400 kids is making around 33,000 per year and there are talks of the school district closing or consolidating in five years since enrollment is dropping. The flight out of rural areas and the budget cuts are killing the quality of life of some of the smaller towns around where I live. Our teachers don't get the respect they deserve and Bush's "No Child Left Behind" policy is making it even harder for small school districts to survive. Suburban schools may be doing great, but inner city and rural districts are in bad shape with no sign of getting better. I was lucky enough to go to a school district that was large enough to get decent funding, but all the other districts around me are a mess financially....I feel for the communities and teachers there.

Iowa State University Severe storm plows across Iowa State campus

I was walking to my 12:40 class today when I noticed green clouds moving in a swirling motion. I got to my class just as the wind was starting to pick up and the rain was beginning. A few people were behind me and I tried holding the door open but the wind was so strong that it kept blowing shut. I figured it was just a really strong thunderstorm, but it turns out that a weak tornado touched down in the center of campus with 83 mph winds. Eight people were injured by falling tree branches. Lots of trees are down but there is minimal damage to buildings. People came into class completely soaked and covered in dirt since there was dirt from a construction site nearby blowing all around. Crazy. I wish I had my camera with me at the time...the swirling green clouds were unreal.

Same here. It's sad when people bash Mercury...I mean, they have all reason to now, but Mercurys used to be sporty mid-level vehicles back in the day. I would love to see Ford pump some excitement into Mercury...make it have the sport of Pontiac with the high-tech refinement of Acura. They could have the Messenger as a two-seater and a Mustang-based Cougar. Mercurys should always have more horsepower than Fords with the exception of a few cases like Mustang Cobras, Shelbys, and the GT. If you can't tell, I have a soft spot for Mercury. :)

Yeah, seriously, to a kid that age (or me at least)...a G-body Monte is a mean looking machine. Those four square headlights and that gaping crest-adorned grille along with limo tint windows just spell trouble. http://www.cheersandgears.com/public/style_emoticons//AH-HA_wink.gif Good thing that balloon incident didn't scar me from loving them to death. Love live the Monte Carlo SS!

My mom is an elementary school teacher at a small school district, and teachers are VERY underpaid. She's been working there for about 25 years now but her pay has been frozen at the same level since the mid 90s. It doesn't matter how much experience you have...once you reach that point, there's no more climbing further up the ladder. Considering the upcoming shortage of teachers in the near future due to all the retirees and low interest in education among young people, you'd think the government would start raising the salaries before our schools go to crap.

Lol, that's awesome! These aren't photoshopped, are they? Edit: Haha, they are real

I remember a time when the only car I wanted was a "convertible" I thought that the TV antenna on our '90 Lumina (V-shaped like the ones on Limos) was the spoiler and that it made our car go faster I thought the Euro on our Lumina meant it was made in Europe The only sports car was a Corvette...I had never heard of or seen any others until I was like 10...and only the coolest sports cars had white leather seats The blue convertible Matchbox car that I loved so dearly was an old Corvette (actually, it was a '65 Mustang convertible but I didn't know it) I used to be scared of G-body Monte Carlos with tinted windows because one time I was outside playing with my Ninja Turtles when some high schoolers drove by in one and threw water balloons at me. I went inside crying and thinking that only bad people must drive them. After watching plenty of 80s movies and TV as a kid, turbo to me was a big red button clearly labeled TURBO that made the car go really fast. My dad's Corvette was a TURBO because it was a sports car, all sports cars have TURBO...but I could never find the button... I thought CB antennas meant you could pick up any TV station you wanted...I thought it was dumb for cops to have them because they'd probably be watching TV and eating donuts instead of catching robbers There's probably more I'll post later if I can remember them...yeah, I was an ignorant kid :P

Wow, lots of good advice from reg there. My studio is made up of about 70 people, and probably 30-40% are girls. Many of them, like you say, are headcases. You get the ones that are so caught up in architecture that they have no time (or need) for anything else....arch is their life. I'd say out of all the girls in my studio, about three to five of them are down to earth and normal. The rest either have their emotional fits or are just too liberal for me (I'm a straight up moderate kinda guy...extremism on either side bothers me, as do feminists...which there are WAAAY too many of in architecture). Anyway, this one girl just seems right for me. It's the type of girl I've been looking for for a while. We've grown up in similar families, have similar interests, and at times there has felt like a connection. I'll admit I'm somewhat shy (I've been that way since I was a kid), but ever since college I've kinda gotten over that. Something inside me says just move on and forget about her because it'll probably never happen, but it's hard when you see her every single day in every single class (I even sit next to her in two classes). I've started branching out and meeting girls around the res hall, but like I said, it's hard to be in studio and be hanging out with them. There's this one girl down the hall who is from California, brunette and attractive, but it's frustrating because even the short couple weeks we've known each other it's already going to s*** due to me being in studio all the time. Studio kills social life, period. The bad thing is, I know everyone in studio almost too well. Some people you get along with better than others...but sometimes you just want to get away from there because nothing ever changes. It's so predictable. Although, sometimes it can be extremely fun (I can remember some hilarious late night antics last year). The problem with hanging out with Interior Design girls is that we are in two separate buildings. The Design College stuck the architecture students in an old 1920s gym with no A/C, while ID, Community & Regional Planning, and Art & Design are in the nice 1970s COD building with its five story glass atrium. We're "supposed" to be getting a new studio sometime in the near future, but I doubt it'll be before I graduate...the University is penny pinching right now due to budget cuts. So in summary, I'm around arch students nearly 24/7. We're isolated in our own building and the amount of free time I have is decreasing by the week. This girl is the only one who has caught my eye that I see often...but her rule about not dating arch guys just kills me. I think my only solution is to get my work done quickly and efficiently so I can have free time on the weekends to get out and and hang out with some other girls. But in architecture, it seems like the work is never-ending...

Here's a scary thought: I just calculated out what it will cost to fill up my 18-gallon Lumina if gas prices got ep to $4.00/gal...$72 bucks! Or if I payed that outragous $6.87 price they had in Atlanta not too long ago....$123.66! If gas prices ever get that high, I'm buying a Huffy.
-
The cheapest place in Iowa right now is in Oskaloosa @ $2.74/gal...and the most expensive is currently in Iowa City @ $3.19/gal. Ames is sitting in the middle at about $3.07/gal for 87. One gas station has even put up a sign that says "Please don't blame us!"

I can't believe I've missed this topic. I too suffer from the dreaded "nice guy syndrome." I'm just too god damn nice. At this stage in my life, girls don't want a nice guy...they want a daring guy, but that's not who I am. There is this one girl in my classes that I just feel would be absolutely perfect for me...we have similar interests (she's into muscle cars *thumbs up*), kinda laid back personalities, have every single class together...but she has some crazy rule that she won't date guys from the same major. I don't know if she's noticed that I've showed some interest in her, but some days we'll be pretty close, and others it seems like we're merely just acquaintances. She's kind of a loner when it comes to relationships though...she's an attractive and popular girl, but her last couple relationships ended pretty badly and I don't know if that's part of the problem why she distances herself so much. Ever since my last girlfriend, I've been striking out quite a bit. I think I'm setting my standards too high, but I don't want some ditzy sorority chick or someone that has little ambition about what they want to do in life. I think another part of the problem is that I'm always busy...everytime I start getting close to someone, I get bogged down with projects and schoolwork. I don't know, I guess I'll just have to wait it out until I'm 25, out of college, have a steady job, etc...I hear that's when the girls are looking to settle down with the nice guys.

Awesome, I've always loved the '79-'81 Trans Ams with the embedded rectangular lights. How much horsepower does the 305 make?

That's a sweet GTO! Your pic looks like something out of a 70s car chase scene.

Nice Cobalt SS and F'bird. GM did a great job with that car...it's one of the few small cars I would consider buying. Good to see you're happy with it.

We got a new Cobalt - Any want Roach II?

Nice Cobalt, I like that green color. You seem to live in a very nice neighborhood as well. Congrats!
