Metal Sludge to the rescue! AIC in their late 80s band Sleze Layne Staley Then renaming themselves Diamond Lie Then they changed their name a third and final time to Alice in Chains. This was about 1989.

That actually wasn't too bad...very tastefully done. It didn't feel forced or cheesy like these ads sometimes do. I like how they had the '64 in there too.

For me, any rock music from about 1968 (Hendrix & the rise of metal) through 1991 or 1992 is good, but after 1992 it starts to get sketchy. By 1992, most of the hair bands began changing their sound to fit with the grunge era, resulting in subpar albums. Some bands like Warrant and Tesla still put out some great music in the early 90s, but others like Motley Crue tried to change their sound and only speeded up the inevitable booting off the record label. Between 1992 and 1995, the Smashing Pumpkins, Candlebox, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Collective Soul, Dream Theater, etc all put out good music that I enjoy listening to. The Deftones also released their first CD in 1995, the first "nu metal" album 'Adrenaline.' After 1995, IMO, rock began to slide downhill with the rise of alternative rock. Grunge died with Kurt Cobain, hair metal had been gone for a few years. There was less emphasis on crafting melodic albums...rather, bands put a couple guaranteed hits on the album and the rest was just filler. Playing anything more than three chords became uncool...so bands put out the most banal, run of the mill rock available. Guitar solos were blasphemy. There's a few gem albums here and there that came out in the late 90s/early 2000s, but overall there's not much that gets me excited about rock music these days. Rock isn't fun like it used to be...so many bands sing about such depressing subjects. Emo is the worst offender. Most guitarists today don't even have the skill to play classics...I watched MTV Icon: Metallica a few years ago, and some of the bands completely botched the solos. I know kids in my guitar club that can play Metallica solos to perfection...they should be the ones with the record contracts. The internet is the only saving grace these days...I've actually found some great underground rock through services like Myspace. I used to listen to modern rock a lot back when I was a freshmen/sophomore in high school because it was all I knew at the time...then I discovered 80s rock/progressive rock and I have never turned back. Blame it all on Shout at the Devil...the first 80s rock album I ever heard in full.

For the car you drive the most (your primary vehicle), which automaker does it belong to? I don't think we've had an actual poll of this before, but I was kinda interested to see how many members of C&G actually drive GM cars and trucks.

That wonderful, blurry age of 21. After that, it's all downhill.

I've never been fired or quit a job...I've worked at the same job in a meatpacking plant for the last six summers, although I started off making boxes and eventually worked my way up to the office. Last summer my boss had me doing a lot of work with important documents, setting up things that would improve efficiency (example: setting up scanners to scan all incoming and outgoing product instead of having to manifest it by hand), filling out weekly prices on product, and drawing up designs for his proposed expansion. It was a great job because the work I did was really appreciated and I got along with everybody there. This next summer I'm working on getting an internship in the Chicago area, so I probably won't be going back there. But it's one of those places where you can always go back if you're looking for work.

My 2004 Buick Park Avenue Ultra
mustang84 replied to rivieraranch's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
Nice...every day on my way to class I walk by a white Park Avenue Ultra and that grille catches my eye everytime. Yours looks great! -
I agree, the reason every mainstream car looks so similar today is because the ropes have been tightened so much that designers don't have as much free will to sculpt the car into unique shapes. Everybody is so worried about having the most headroom or the most trunk space that we end up with these bloated cars with high beltlines, and then you have all these pedestrian standards to worry about so they have to make sure that the grille and hood are as smooth as a baby's bottom. Practicality schmacticality I say.

I love those big thick chrome grilles that Pontiacs had in the 60s. That is a beauty!

Looks good...I really like the new Tahoe/Suburban front ends. I'm glad they kept squarish headlights.

Man, all these backruptcy predictions are getting depressing. I hope GM can find some way to make things work out.

I don't think I'd lick money either...who knows where it's been?

Well, today I didn't have much going on and was going to drive out and see some tornado damage, but most of the roads were blocked off so I decided to go dealer hopping instead. The first place I went to was Willey Ford-Lincoln-Mercury in Ames. They had 3 Fusions, 1 Milan, 1 Zephyr, 5 Mustangs (all V6s...I never saw any GT on the entire trip), 4 Montegos, 2 Five Hundreds, and 3 of the new '06 Grand Marquis. The CD3 trio looks great in person...after seeing all three, the Zephyr is now my favorite. It's funny because I used to not like the Zephyr, but seeing it in real life is a whole different story. There's so much brightwork that really makes it stand out from the other two. The Fusion looked great as well and the Milan looks good too. There's enough differentiation between the three IMO. Especially between the Zephyr and Fusion/Milan. Also, I saw a black Montego Premier AWD with a spoiler. This is the first time I've seen a spoiler on a Montego. The new Grand Marquis's look bad in Ford photos but it didn't look as bad in person. The thing I didn't like about the grille from photos was that it looked tacked on, but if you look at it in person you'll see that they extended the hood out a little and it kinda fits with the lines of the hood. EVERY Grand Marquis I saw was chromed out...chrome wheels, chrome trim, chrome grille, chrome mirrors; one even had a Landau top. Next stop was a Buick-GMC dealer. I didn't spend much time there because I was mainly looking for the Lucerne and they didn't have one. There were a couple LaCrosse CSX's there. I really like the LaCrosse...a lot of people don't like the headlights, but I love them. The LaCrosse really makes the LeSabre and Park Avenue look old, and the Regal and Century look ancient. Then I went across the street to the Toyota-Cadillac dealer. I completely blew past the Toyota side and went straight to the Cadillac side looking for the new DTS; nothing. They actually had very few Cadillacs there...no STSs, no CTSs...mostly just old Sevilles, DeVilles, and Eldorados. It was very disappointing. I did see something cool though...an '02 Oldsmobile Intrigue Gold Edition...it was black with gold trim pieces. I've never heard of it before but it looked sharp. Then I went down the road to the Chevy-Pontiac dealer. I take back most of the stuff I said about the '06 Impala...in person, it looks MUCH better. They had a black SS there and it looked great. The interior is very nice too. I also saw the new Malibus and they looked better, but they're still no match for the Fusion. GM really needs to get the '07 Malibu out ASAP. The Torrent and G6s all looked good. They had a few G6 coupes there...one was in this really brilliant blue. They are very sporty looking from the rear. Finally, I drove ten miles away to Moffit Ford-Lincoln-Mercury in Boone. They didn't get any rain out there so all the cars were nice and clean. There were a ton of Mercurys....1 Milan, 5 Montegos, 4 Mariners, 4 Grand Marquis's, and a few '06 Mountaineers. One person drove in in a Honda Passport and stopped to look at the Milan. They also had some Mark LTs there. Once again, all Mustangs were V6 models...not a GT in sight. I'll probably upload some of the better pictures tonight...I took probably 70 or so. I was disappointed that I never got to see a Lucerne or DTS though...those were the two GMs I really wanted to see.

Here's video that was taken by an observer in Woodward, which is a small town southwest of Ames...very dramatic footage of the destruction as it was happening. KCCI News This is video of the tornado that hit Northwest Ames Ames Tornado 3 Tornadoes officially touched down, with Woodward receiving the most extensive damage from an F3. About 40 homes were damaged there and another 25 in Straford, with one death.

I can not for the life of me figure out what this Pontiac is. I've narrowed it down to a '66, '67, or '68 model and I'm leaning toward a Catalina or possibly a Tempest, but every one has different headlights and taillights from this one. How many models did Pontiac have in the 60s?? I've counted GTO, Tempest, Firebird, Catalina, Beaumont, Laurentian, Bonneville, Grand Prix, Ventura, Parisienne, Strato Chief and probably others I'm forgetting. This is driving me nuts! The pics

About an hour ago, an F3 tornado touched down in the NW part of Ames. I haven't heard anything on the damage up there, but I got a pic of the tornado as it was going back up into the sky. I'm ok and the Iowa State campus was unaffected. They had to evacuate Jack Trice Stadium because people were there for the ISU - Colorado game. We never get tornadoes in November!

They have those at Wal-Mart? Whenever I go to Wal-Mart they have the cheesy DUB and Street Racer crap. All I want is a stock classic car...no stupid rims or ugly paint jobs.
-
What all does it have in it? I can't really see the cars that clearly.

That's awesome! I might have to go hunt down a Toys R' Us one of these days...
