I was walking to class at 9:50 this morning when this little pug dog with a collar ran by me. On my right side was the Memorial Union building, and on the left across the street was a slope down to Lake LaVerne. The lake was mostly ice covered, but there were sections where the ice had melted. I kept walking but had a bad feeling in my gut because once the dog disappeared beyond the crest of the hill, I didn't see him pop out again further up by the sidewalk. I backtracked across the street and saw a little object splashing in the water about 10 feet from the shore. It was the little dog. So I start hurrying over there to the shore. I get out my phone to try to call ISU Public Safety, but the sunlight was so bright that I couldn't read the number in my contacts. About a minute later, an older gentleman shows up and says he saw the dog from the road and called 911, and they transfered him to the ISU Police. He said they were sending someone over. So we stand around for about three minutes, this poor little dog hanging onto the edge of the ice with two paws, trying as hard as he can to get up onto it. No one had showed up yet, and another guy stopped so we got some rocks from the shore and attempted to break the ice so the dog could swim closer to us. The ice was too thick to break. After five minutes, an ROTC guy shows up and another girl shows up. The girl runs to the Memorial Union bookstore to see if they have any rope and the ROTC guy and me take off our coats thinking that maybe we can go out onto the edge of the ice and try to pull the dog up. By this time the dog was starting to hyperventilate and had stopped pawing at the ice. He was literally hanging on for his life. We were starting to get agitated because the police hadn't showed up yet and we figured they'd forgotten about us. The ROTC guy and me start walking toward the shore when a voice from behind us yells not to go out onto the lake. Behind us were two firefighters and two police officers. The two firefighters crawl out onto the ice and each one grabs a paw and slowly pulls the dog out of the water. Surprisingly, the dog still had enough strength to walk normally back to the shore where they dried him off with a towel. I have never felt so helpless in my life before. If that dog had gone under before the firefighters had gotten there, I would have felt awful. I'm glad that little dog got a second chance at life today.

Mine's obvious...I like Mustangs and was born in the glorious year of 1984.

Last summer when I went to Michigan, we stayed in New Buffalo and they must've had well-water because it smelled like fish...and I hate fish. Otherwise, I don't care. I usually just drink tap water unfiltered, and sometimes if I've had bottled water and drank it all, I'll fill the bottle up again a few times with tap water. I've heard too that tap water is actually better for you since bottled doesn't have flouride that prevents teeth rot. I see no reason to pay for water when I can get it for free.

This article is a little over a year old, but it sheds some light into the side of Toyota that is never published. How does the world's most profitable automaker get away with lowering wages after age 51, refusing overtime pay, hiring as few workers as possible while increasing cash reserves (causing higher work-related injuries and suicide rates), and underpaying taxes? I found this quote especially interesting: ZNet

V6 FWD? After all the success the Mustang has had? That seems to be the most boneheaded decision GM could ever make...I find it hard to believe any truth to his statements. Seriously...I don't think GM would be that stupid. -
Vibe, Torrent, Montana SV6, and Terraza. Pontiac would get a new RWD Grand Prix, and Buick would get a RWD sedan (Electra/Invicta) and a RWD coupe (Riviera/Wildcat).

I don't like this one bit. The exterior (especially the front end) is a dog. The front end strikes me as being something straight out of the mid 1970s, let's say 1975. *quick Google search* Well, whatd'ya know... Chrysler Aspen, meet...Chrysler Aspen. It's a little different, but I see some similarities in the headlight layout and grille. As for the interior, is one of the vent covers starting to peel off already? Those vents look straight out of the mid 1980s. The overall dash just looks plastic-tastic. I don't know...I like the 300C, Charger, and Challenger, but everything else Chrysler seems to be coming out with these days is really turning me off.

This is the first time I've heard of it...but I'm sure some of the other Camaro nuts around here have known about it. It was an '81 Z28 with a turbo 350, different front air dam, vinyl decals, and a few other things. One of the color options was turbo white, as shown here.

Actually, there is a tool you can download called the San Andreas Mod Installer (gtagaming.com) that automatically installs the mod for you and allows you to make back up files in case you want to restore the original car. It literally takes seconds to install a car with this tool. Link to Fiero image Fiero

Actually, there is someone right now that I'm thinking of cutting out of my life. I went on a couple dates with this girl in November and early December and she just seemed so amazing at the time. She even invited me to go to Las Vegas with her this summer. Ever since the last week of school last semester, we've been drifting further apart for reasons I don't know. I've tried to set up stuff to do, but she either declines or doesn't respond. I've even just tried talking to her on AOL or calling her up, and she ignores me. I'm assuming she's mad about something, but I don't know what. I can't think of anything that I've done that would have made her mad. She's from So Cal, but now she stays holed up in her room all the time (we live on the same floor). I don't like being ignored, especially when I don't know the reason for it. As much as I really don't want to, I'm probably going to cut her loose and just move on...it's beyond the point of salvaging. Usually I don't cut friends loose though. I've fallen out of contact with a few good friends (roomates from past years), but like bathalzar mentioned, I have found friends with pretty good character. Sometimes when I go back home for break I'll see someone from high school (usually a jock/prep/etc) that never talked to me in high school but is now all the sudden interested in catching up on old times (like we had any old times in the first place). I've found that I've kept pretty good contact with a lot of my high school friends...you can tell which ones were truly your friends in high school as the years pass.

Oh man, I'm in shock right now. I remember Chief from way back when I first started posting here...he seemed like an extremely cool guy, even if he didn't really care for first-gen Luminas like mine. He did have insightful posts that were very well written and thought out. It's amazing how you can never meet someone in person yet still feel awful when hearing of their passing. RIP Chief....you were a good guy with a big heart, and your Chiefisms you put at the end of your posts were always clever.

From the "Hold my beer and watch this!" file...this guy does a long enough burnout in his Impala SS that the rear tires and engine catch on fire. D'oh. Impala SS burnout

I was born during the year that is also the title of a famous book by George Orwell. "Jump" by Van Halen was hot at the time.

It'd probably something along the lines of "WE'RE GETTING A DIVORCE!!" The strange thing is, she was really nice the night I first met her. Now...I'm not so sure.

Ok, who here gets annoyed by drama queens? Tonight, I went to check my e-mail and found a message from a girl who I hung out with once in late November. She and a couple of my freinds invited me to hang out with them New Years Eve at Lake Okoboji in Northern IA, but my family had a last minute change of plans and didn't leave Chicago until late, so I didn't get home until 10 PM New Year's Eve. Since I wouldn't have been able to make the 4 hour drive up there, I went and hung out with some friends down in Omaha (hour away). So, tonight I get this hate filled email from her saying how "we're fighting" like we've been in a relationship for years or something. I've hung out with her o-n-c-e, and it wasn't even a date...it was just a group of us going out to the bars. She even goes to a different university on the other side of the state! One of my girlfriends in high school was the same way...she'd blow something completely out of proportion and make this huge deal about it so the whole world would know "we're fighting." This middle school crap in college is lame.

I want to know why the Tahoe Hybrid was removed from the showroom floor. -
This is the type of reoccuring Toyota arrogance we GM'ers bitch about yet people still continue to deny exists. Seriously...what other purpose does this article serve other than to further emblazon GM's demise into the papers, while placing a crown upon the head of Toyota. Why does Okuda feel it is necessary to make these comments other than to further attempt to humiliate General Motors? Keep twisting, Toyota...you're doing a damn good job of turning Americans against anything that is made in Detroit...scaring them away with fears of buying from a bankrupt automaker. Oh well, it's only a matter of time before Hyundai replaces you as the favored one. Who published this article anyway? Japanese or American publication?
