The key to this story is the 46.6% of buyers in the 36-55 age range. And more than half the buyers are under 55. That's how you get Buick's age range down. I would have like to see the most popular trade be an RX or MDX, but at least Rendezvous drivers are sticking with Buick.

That is one of the huge reasons I am working on becoming a vegetarian. Meat farming is one of the largest causes of greenhouse gases - methane is naturally occurring yes, but not very natural when you stick 1 million cows on a piece of recently cleared rainforest to farm them for meat. We could argue if humans have something to do with Global Warming or not (I honestly can't see how anyone can deny AT LEAST a little bit with the amount of cars and coal burning plants belching crap into the air. How could that not be f@#king something up?) all year. Truth be told, we have no exacting proof how warm or cold the Earth would get without us here. The Earth will warm and cool naturally. It has for billions of years before humans evolved and it will continue after the Earth figures out how to get rid of us and start all over again with other organisms. The rational thing to do here is to think what harm could energy conservation do? Why are people against saving energy? Oil is a finite resource and at now $84 a barrel (the cheap oil is gone) and China and India coming onto the grid, causes a lot of strife. And it should start from the top down - from the corporations and government, those that have the money to throw into it. Every corporation and government building should have some source of alternative energy tied to it, wind, solar, geothermal, etc. As more and more gets built, the price will go down and efficiency will go up. Then, by the time it gets to us normal folks, we can afford it and it will be worth it. Truth be told, I don't want a hybrid - but my carbon footprint is so small compared to the real offenders. Hybrids and electrics should be offered to those that want them. I consider myself to be pro-environment, but not a militant non-thinker. I think CAFE should go up very gradually and there should be allowances for work/towing trucks - you know, the vehicles that build this country. If I want to buy a 400hp Camaro, I will. And if someone else wants to buy a Volt, they will. I think the people that are rational about this understand that there should still be freedom of choice and manufactures will still build what the people want to buy.

Do you think we would be in IRAQ, worried about IRAN, had most of the 9/11 hijackers from Saudi Arabia (no matter what anyone says, the reason that BinLaden attacked us was to get US troops OUT OF THE MUSLIM HOLY LAND - Saudi Arabia, which Bush did a few years later) and really give a $h! about the MIddle East IF WE DIDN'T NEED THEIR OIL? There may be peace in the US (and other countries) if we became energy independent. Come on people. Direct your hate to people that are really doing harm to this country and the world and leave those that are trying to really make a difference alone. BTW Al Gore NEVER said he "created the internet". That was right-wing spin from the 2000 elections. He was a key Congressional leader that made sure the government agencies that were creating the internet had proper funding. So he was key to the creation of the internet because he supported it and saw the kind of positive changes it could make. You know, the kind of forward thinking (like energy conservation) that leaders are made of. But f@#k him, right.

CONCEPT: Lexus LF-Xh
avant1963 replied to Flybrian's topic in Japan Mobility Show / Tokyo Auto Salon
Did it recently have mouth surgery and needs cotton in it's cheeks? Or did Toyota designers just watch the "Godfather" for inspiration? Oh, what am I saying, Toyota doesn't have designers. -
You forget that I have a Malibu MAXX SS, so he sits out there for free.

Here's some shots of Harry "in his plot" and dusk with the lights on:

Even though it does not feel like it in NJ (mid 80's the last week or so), I'm getting ready for the greatest holiday - Halloween. I usually spend all my time turning half my basement into a haunted house for our big Halloween party, but this year I decided to build some outdoor decorations from scratch. Meet Lloyd the unfriendly scarecrow. Got him up this morning to protect the house: And he will be soon joined by Harry out front: I'm pretty happy with the way they came out - newspaper, paper towels, chicken wire and duct tape. What are you guys doing for Halloween?

Pontiac G8 to start at $27,595 | Ordering Guide
avant1963 replied to Lamar's topic in Heritage Marques
I told my local dealer to call me when the first GT comes in. I'm hoping that when the G6 lease is up November 08, the price gouging will be over with and the fact that I am a repeat customer will keep the "additional" bull$h! in line. Red with red leather and every option. And the 2006 GTO that GM let me test drive for a week had the best interior from GM ever (2007-08 excluded). And PCS, I know you hate Holdens, but the G8 does look better than the 5er. -
The smells of patchulli and soy farts are included in the auction.

It's because visionary men like Raymond Loewy (who gets credit for the first streamlined locomotives, styled home appliances, and three of the best looking cars from the 50-60s, all Studebakers) are no longer allowed to flourish in corporate America. There used to be a flair to design - almost a function-follows-form thinking. Someone designs a widget for $2.00. It stylish, a little daring and you may take a hit if someone doesn't like it. The bean-counters say "well, we could design a widget that looks like every other widget for $1.00. We'll save a dollar, and be assured that people won't HATE it because it takes no chances and looks like everything else. And since we are going to charge $3.00 for it either way, there's an extra buck in our pockets." Men like Loewy and the designers he hired to work with him looked at design a whole other way. The "f@#k the bean counters" thought. From locomotives to copier machines to refrigerators to the Shell logo to JFK's Air Force One to the 1963 Avanti, Loewy was the man.

CONCEPT: BMW X6 & X6 Hybrid
avant1963 replied to Flybrian's topic in International Motor Show - Germany
Answer to the question no one asked - "Could I please have an updated AMC Eagle?" But I'm sure it walks on water, Bangle is probably a virgin (hence the virgin-birth) and posers will fall all over themselves to buy one. "Look! I can carry two kids and half a stroller! But it has a propeller on the hood." And if one more PR German asshole calls a 4-door a "coupe" here in the US, I'm taking hostages. Here in the USA, a Saloon is a bar and a f@#king coupe is a TWO-DOOR. -
China Automobile nearly kicked out of Frankfurt
avant1963 replied to Flybrian's topic in International Motor Show - Germany
All bow to your new masters, China. They can do whatever they want because we let them buy out everything. Thank the Milton Freedman's of the world for believing in Globalism. -
That's the "low millage" lease. That's less than 10k a year and it's 3 months longer - not the usual 36,000 miles. Keep that in mind. The price will go up a bit if you go for a regular lease. I hope your friend doesn't drive much.

I'm pretty much done with NASCAR, but the only driver that still seems like a real person and doesn't fall for all the NASCAR bull$h! is Tony Stewart. Well, he just lost that title. I just can't see Tony switching to Toyota, and I don't see him as a chaser of the almighty dollar (he has always said that as soon as NASCAR racing isn't fun anymore, he was going to quit - and he said the COT is not fun to drive) and maybe he'll just quit - break his contract and quit. But I highly doubt it. Day after day, it sucks being an American car fan living in America. Rich American's have whored out everything they can, and are still looking for more.

The only problem is (and yes I saw Transformers, loved it and felt the Camaro looked great in it) that we will be in year 4 of the Camaro before it hits the road. While my enthusiasm does not die for it, the general American public, who can't stay on one topic for more than 2 news cycles, are already looking for the next big thing. To many, the new Camaro is already out (yes I have talked to people who have asked me if I bought a new Camaro yet) and by the time 2qrt 2009 rolls along, it will already need a MCE. Too much exposure for this car. Remember the last Ford Thunderbird? No, me neither.

Saturn Sky Flying High, Pontiac Solstice Flagging?
avant1963 replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in The Lounge
A huge reason is that Pontiac dealers are only ordering (or GM is only shipping??) loaded Solstices with almost every option. I looked into one and every Solstice in the 50 mile radius was over $30,000. NO $h! you're not selling them. Where did the $21,000 - 26,000 car go? Not only that, but dealers are packing on BS dealer-installed options like splash guards to jack the price even more. Plus, my local dealer has two GXPs sitting on the lot, and one's an auto!? - And the other Solstices were auto too. Where's the autocross Solstices? It's the product mix, stupid. -
Great. Now I can curse Nissan Drivers too when I get to merge onto a NJ highway behind them and they are every so lightly stepping on the gas to get the very last drop of fuel for their MPG as a 18-wheeler approaches us at 75 mph in the slow lane. What a great f@#king idea. I already have to deal with "keepers of the speed" Priuses that feel that 54mph in the fast lane is OK because they are getting the best fuel economy and therefore everyone else behind them should thank them for bunching up traffic.

So, in ricer-logic, all you have to do is take off the armrest and get 25 HP back. Along with a few stickers, you'll be up to 300hp in no time.
