  1. If I remember correctly, the Sounder has runs from Tacoma to Everett. I know there are Sounders in Tacoma but I don't know all of the routes. There is talk about expanding it down to Olympia. I've seen attempts at fixing the traffic flow around Seattle but then I've also seen our governor trying to dictate exactly how Seattle will work. And that is usually the problem, most of the people here chuckle at the SLUT but the politicians are aghast. We could fix a lot of our problems here in Washington if only the people we hire to run this state would do their job, set priorities, and use the money we give them wisely (OK, I know that's a pipe dream)
  2. Not sure what the name of that club was. Hey, it was way back in the late 80's. For the last few years a local Corvette restoration place called Corvette & High Performance has put on a swap meet at the Puyallup Fair Grounds (state fair). Every year they provide space for local clubs and each year we spend time between Yesterday's Chevelles and El Caminos and a local Nova club (sorry, can't remember their name). We always have fun together and I constantly hear club members giving good advice and restoration and maintenance. Our club has a tongue in cheek "Beater Brunch" each November with silly awards. It's just another excuse to hang out. We also have a get together to plan some events (a reason to watch football). Don't get me wrong, there isn't a huge showing at the 'just for fun' events but we can expect about 30-50 people each time and those are usually the ones that like to get together for any reason and usually the ones running the club. We do have a large number of people who we will only see at shows, and some people who we never see at all. There are the snobs who act like they can't talk to you unless you have a special edition 69 Camaro. But those people don't have anywhere near as much fun as those who head over to the local cruise-in spot, or just get together to have fun. The group of people I drove down to Reno for Hot August Nights with are people I can count on anytime and who open their homes and garages to others. These are the ones who will help fix you engine at 2AM, give you advice on drag racing, volunteer to run a show or help clean Highway 18, host and plan a party, listen to you, talk to you, and have fun with you. In other words, these people are the reason I stay with PNWCC.
  3. Out here we have Puyallup most of our rivers get brutalized Skookumchuk, Stillaguamish, Ilwaco, Of course the Hoh River runs very close to Beaver.
  4. My brother used to belong to a Chevlle club that never wanted his car around because it wasn't completed (a work in progress). He left that club quickly. On the other hand the Camaro Club we belong to wants to see all four generations of Camaros and even gives props to other cool cars. Our Skylark always gets some attention as do many other cool cars. I have noticed that many of the Corvette Clubs can be very snobby but there is a local one that is run by some pretty cool people. The local Grand Prix group spends most of their time hanging out together and drag racing, not many shows. Tammy and I used to belong but since we sold our 2K GTP we aren't technically members. We still get invited to events and have a fun time with the group. I guess it is just the club or group you find that can make the difference. Our shows are well attended but I have noticed that our X-Mas Party and many of our meetings and get-togethers are always popular, especially with the people who are the ones who are always there to help out if you need it. Knightfan, I wish it was a lot closer to many of the people here. I would love to hang out with many here.
  5. I saw this on the news a few days ago and they were calling it a 'trolley'. The change to streetcar came pretty quickly though. Hmmm, maybe I should check out how much it costs to ride the S.L.U.T. and how long the ride lasts.
  6. Good luck over there and have fun. I love driving on the Autobahn. I am going to over there in November for a couple of weeks at Ramstein AB (helping out the enroute mechanics). I can't wait.
  7. Well, if you put up with our idiosyncrasies, I am willing to put up with yours. :AH-HA_wink: Personally, I think they have helped wake GM up and they have some good ideas to work from, but their cars are designed for a different market. Some will work here, others need more American heritage. Anyone who REALLY appreciates the Chevy V-8s is welcome, as well as those who like other GM V-8s (Hmmmmm, 455). Heck I could even enjoy BSing about Buick Turbo V-6 from the 80s.

  9. Camino, I think you and I could hang out talking and playing with cars all day long. Throw in my brother and some other friends and we'd have one heck of a good time.
  10. Ya got me too Fly. With Toyotas out gunning for you I figured it was only a matter of time. Congrats on the milestone. Still a very cool car.
  11. I'd have to say that a Tri-5 Nomad is my favorite but the late 50's Apache and ANY 68-72 A-Body are very close. Which is why I am very happy with this. My brother just picked up an unmolested 71 El Camino and I was pretty much drooling over it. Now, is anyone who remembers how many Camaros I own surprised by my selection? Camaros are right up there too and my favorite of them are the 70-73's. Corvettes are real close too.
  12. Bad idea, and I don't see it happening. This has been brought up and shelved so many times that it became old a long time ago. Sort of like the dual engined Vette concept back in the 80s. I don't think that they would risk losing their support from the Vette community on this one. Its sort of like how they played with a FWD Camaro and dropped it due to the possibility of losing the fans. As for reaching the limit of putting the power to the road, they've run into that problem many times. Then tires tech improved, suspension tech improved, etc. The limit is not yet reached. Check out the Lingenfelter Twin Turbo Vettes, that's around (or a little past) the limit for now. And remember its not only 50+ years of tradition, its 50+ years of sales.
  13. This is fantastic news and I hope GM can pull this off. The Volt puts to shame every hybrid sold and looks good, too. As for the questions about the battery tech, I somehow have a feeling that there is a lot more behind the scenes than we know. Come on, doesn't anyone else think that if GM didn't believe they could pull this off, they would show the concept and then keep VERY quiet about its future? Keeping it in the news keeps the pressure on GM and A123. So far, from what I remember, the contract with A123 is to develop the battery. I am pretty sure that other battery suppliers will be in the equation for production, even if they are subcontracted by A123. On another note, I am pretty tired of most every positive article about GM having shots taken at the company. They could continually state that GM is struggling and don't mention any of the advances and improvements. But Toyota on the other hand, sounds like the have fully developed transporters. Oh, right, Toyota can do no wrong, GM can do no right. Hand over the kool-aid, I guess.
  14. I'll definately agree with you here. But this is a go and isn't it supposed to be 2009? That said, I do hope if they bring back the Skylark name then they put it on something worthwhile. Let's not bring back names just to bring them back. If they do make a new Skylark then a GS and GSX could be performance versions (as long as they really perform).
  15. First time I EVER saw a WAWA's was on a Air Force mission that ran through the east coast and on around different parts of the world. The flight crew made sure to stop and we all loaded up on goodies before going across the pond. One last chance at real food before going places that I would rather not return to. Cool place and good treats.
  16. I wish. I keep getting asked to come out there but with the schedules of family, work, reserves, and our car club out here it never seems to happen. My one big event I drive to is Hot August Nights in Reno.

  18. That is a great quote from Lutz and definately the way to go. It's probably a sincere challenge as well. If they did show up with usable, cost effective technology GM would gladly jump to the advantage of using it. There is a balance between HP and economy. The newer cars can improve fuel economy with more efficient engines. With more use of the 6 speed auto we should see an improvement in fuel economy as well. We can have the power available for use when desired and be able to cruise at a pretty efficient rate of fuel burn. Things should continue to improve. The problem is that we have so many technologies that we can see as viable and none of the is really fulfilling their promise yet. We, as a people, are impatient and want to see the payoff now.
  19. You mean there is life EAST of it???? Its going to take time to turn the trend of losing market share around, and I don't mean a year or two. We've all heard or said that but I guess we are just very impatient and want the turnaround to be finished NOW. I would also like to see more aggressive advertising and I hope it is on the way following the improvements that we are seeing on the products themselves.
  20. Congrats Fly. While I don't have any questions to add I do hope we get an extensive report on EVERYTHING you can find out for us. Have fun and keep your eyes open.

    Goof-off works wonders
  22. Looking good there , NOS Wow, that creates an image you don't want while drinking.
  23. And how many news people are self repecting? :AH-HA_wink:
  24. You're right, that does constitute a very liberal definition of accelerate.

Good luck getting the 'bird, YJ. If you do get it, hold on to it. Everytime we drive one of our classics we hear people wistfully talk about the cool cars they used to own and wish they still did.
