    Car Heaven

It looks like a good program on the surface but a potential problem could exist underneath. I can easily see some of the enviro groups pushing the gov't to expand things like this and make it harder and harder to keep old cars on the road and have this be the carrot. "see, get rid of your old car and get something new." I've seen legislation to make renewing registration for older vehicles older, tightening emissions testing with no exemptions for classic and antique vehicles, among other ideas. And I've seen programs like this be suggested as an incentive to get people to pass those laws. As the program above is described, no one will be getting rid of their classics. This also won't get rid of a lot of the older cars that really need help (or to be gotten rid of) since many of those are owned by people who cannot afford a new car, even with $1000 off.

  4. Caprice-it can be a royal pain sometimes depending on where you wind up going. Homestation isn't bad and I enjoy the work I do. Some of the deployed locations on the other hand... Still it is nowhere as bad as what the guys and gals on the front line deal with. Drinking is for after work. I need my wits about me too much for my job. Since I work as a civilian for the Air Force during the week, I could be fired and I much prefer to be employed. 76ChevyTrucker-The National Guard is a completely different story when it comes to jobs. You will wind up enlisting for a specific position and it is highly improbable that they would change things on you. Most National Guard units are specific as to what they do and they won't make you transfer. The reserves are the same as the guard (except that the guard has to answer to state governement as well as federal). You come in with an assigned job and that is what you wind up doing.

  6. I finally got to sleep and slept for about 3 hours and woke back up. Which is fine for today since now I should be able to sleep tonight and be awake and alert for the weekend. We've got a car show tomorrow in Tacoma and that should be a nice realxing day. I don't like taking pills. My wife has to practivally force me to remember to take my vitamins. My last TDY, I went to Vegas and they put us up in a very nice hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable. Strange enough, it was never a problem getting out of bed. I was always on the go when I didn't have to be on base and working. That was a good trip, even though the airplanes had some major issues. Good people turn bad trips into good ones.
  7. Dayum, that's a bunch of snow. I love the snow but not around my house or on the road. I prefer it in the mountains.
  8. And this is the leader of Russia? No wonder international politics are so messed up. I think all of our leaders are nuts. Hey, I wonder if this is where Michael Jackson will be moving to next.

  10. Camaro- my comment about idiot was not aimed at you, sorry I was not specific about that. I have seen many of your posts since we are both Camaro fans and I tend to look for about anything with the word Camaro in it. Your posts have never led me to say anything derogatory about you at all. Again, sorry if the way I wrote my comment led you to believe I was talking about YOU being an idiot. Please, chalk up that ambiguity to me being still awake after working a long and tiring graveshift.
  11. That was not my thought but it is one to consider. I was thinking that as long as they are discussing this and keep talking, it gives GM a chance to continue their turnaround and may keep KK off of their backs a bit.
  12. Lord, I love those. Our current club president had one. It was stolen and he searched the whole US to find another one. I want to be adopted.
  13. I see the Charger as an OK car but with the wrong name applied to it. Come on Dodge, remember what the Charger was. Its a Dodge 300C. Of coarse, I also don't care for that Dodge truck grill on all of the Dodge cars. I know its not exactly the same but it looks close enough for me. The Magnum is a cool idea. I always loved powerful wagons. A cool sleeper idea. But again I don't care for that nose. OK, that's just me. I eagerly await the return of the Challenger and the Camaro. The the Pony Car wars return!
  14. Even if it is what you said, 97regal, it should get Kirk off their back for a while and allow most of GM to continue getting the ship turned around. Hmm, the longer the talks go the better it could be. OK, so that's the cynic in me talking.
  15. Can you feel the love? (BTW, Tammy is on our laptop spying on me, I guess)
  16. Respectfully, I disagree. I am in too critical a field of work to risk it. Pilots and passengers depend on the quality of work I do. This doesn't include those waiting for the supplies and cargo being delivered. My father worked at 2 of Washington State's mental institutions and I have seen first hand what drugs can do in the long term. Besides, if Tammy gives me the back and shoulder massage she promised, I will definately be relaxed and fall asleep soon. If not, I may consider taking out on of the ATVs and play.
  17. That sounds very much like what Jack Ryan put forth in Tom Clancy's 'Executive Orders'
  18. Oh yes, and it is random drug testing. I have been tested both as a civilian and in military status. Good thing too, would you want someone drugged up working on engines, flight contols, and other aircraft systems? Not me.
  19. lol, I was going to tell him that I couldn't see myself buying a car from him. He reminds me too much of a carpetbagger or snake oil salesman. I stopped in the dealership today to check on a part and the saleman I talked about came over and chatted with me about my car (the one I drove in). He knows there is no sale there and doesn't expect one. He is just one cool car guy.
  20. Actually, from some of the posts I have seen, he speaks in idiot. Back to the subject, I see this as Rick and the board want to really fix GM and bring it back to the status it deserves.
  21. Ummmmm, I am in the Air Force reserves and my civilian job is an an aircraft mechanic on C17s for the Air Force. I am not risking my job, but thanks for the suggestion.
  22. OK, this may seem a strange thing to say at 10:00 AM but I am having a hard time getting to sleep. I work graveshift and Friday mornings are always hard for me to get to sleep since I am thinking about the weekend. So, here I sit at the computer on my favorite forum, having a beer and some whiskey. Hopefully, this won't last long and I will feel ready for some much needed rest. (Last night was a pain)
  23. Sweet Chevelle. Nice color. Its about the same as my brothers 71 Convertible. Don't you love 'A' Bodies?
  24. BTW, I noticed you didn't have iroczlover's name, its Tammy... or if you want to call her something else, go ahead
  25. It's good that they will hold these talks. The alliance may wind up being some sharing of systems and technologies or it might be something bringing the companies much closer. Or nothing may happen. This shows that they are willing to consider all options. I am glad the reiterate their commitment to turning around GMNA.
