  1. I know where you all are coming from. I keep running across things at home that remind me of the people that I have known and may never see again. I prefer to think on the richness that they have brought into my life. From the the friends I knew growing up and have never seen after my family moved out of that area to the people I went through Desert Storm, each of them has helped make me who I am today. I grew up spending a lot of time by myself. It was just a fact of living out in the country. I am still somewhat a loner. I enjoy being by myself much of the time but I am very glad that I joined my car club. The people there are some of the best I have ever known.
  2. As long as GMC and Chevy truck numbers are counted separately, Ford can claim to have the best selling pickup and be technically correct. Its all spin and advertising anyway. If the Tundra wants to play with the big boys, then the 3/4 or 7/8 or 15/16, whatever, excuse is garbage. It either holds its own or it doesn't. The same goes for any truck that advertises against the F-series, Sierra, Silverado, and Ram trucks. We'd be as harsh on any of them for failing to measure up. As ocnblu stated, we overload our trucks. I've carried a ton of hay in an 83 S-10. You probably wouldn't believe what we've pulled out of hay fields with our trucks. The simple fact is the strength of American built trucks is way more than what they are rated at simply because the manufacturers know we are like this.

Back to the topic... OK, so they put in a disclaimer that said an accounting error was made. It was required because of the error. That doesn't mean that the all of their accounting is not credible, it only means what it says, that an error was made and they admit they should have caught it. Sheesh, not every statement is earth shattering, nor a sign of impending doom.
  4. Yeah, that editorial WAS that bad. So much that has been going on in the automotive world was ignored or glossed over that the article was essentially worthless. Yes, GM is still struggling but the truth is that things are getting better. They don't need someone who only cares about the cash getting in the way of what GM needs to do, which is build great cars and get them sold! They had enough of that with Zarrela. The product is either here or on its way. I've seen signs of some pretty good advertising. Let them keep improving things and let's keep cheering for the improvements and letting them know what needs to still be improved. As for Toyota, they may have moved into the #2 spot but its earned them a whole lot of quality issues and recall notices. #1 might not be where they want to be.
  5. I'm down in Medford, Oregon right now. We spent the night here and are supposed meet up with a couple more people this morning. I hope I can get internet access at our hotel in Reno so I can update things as the week goes by. Take care everyone and if I can't get back online, I'll see you next week.

  7. Yep, we're definately taking lots of pictures and if I can find a place to get online with my laptop I will be uploading them to my Camaro Club's photo gallery as oftern as possible. This has got to be the greatest show I have ever gone to or heard about.
  8. Take care and enjoy yourself. See you when we both make it back to our respective homes.
  9. It's finally arrived. My vacation has started. Tomorrow, we head up to Puyallup for a Camaro and Corvette show and then on Sunday we start the drive down to Reno for Hot August Nights. The weather looks like it will cooperate so the Skylark will be topless most of the way down. Let's see, as far as I know we will have the following cars heading down in our group.. 1961 Corvette Convertible 1967 Camaro Convertible 1967 Camaro Convertible (not a reprint-we have two in the group) 1968 Camaro RS 1969 Camaro Coupe 1969 Camaro Z/28 (DZ302 car) 1971 Chevelle SS454 Convertible (brother's) 1972 Buick Skylark Convertible (ours) There should be more but I don't know what they are driving. Plus, my uncle is meeting us down in Reno. This is my first vacation since I got off activation. I really need the time off. Plus, once we get there we'll be surrounded by some of the most beautiful cars ever built. This year's show has 5500 cars officially entered plus everyone who just shows up. All American and European cars and trucks 1972 and older. Can you tell that I am excited?
  10. Someone snag that car QUICK! That's an fantastic entry price to get into the classic car hobby. 76trucker, you could always see if you could work out some kind of deal with the guy.

  12. Those kind of people always crack me up. If you are happy with what you have and it serves it purpose for you, who cares what idiots like them think? I've seen some very nice looking, newer cars on the side of the road when I'm driving my crapmobile (Metro) and I usually stop to lend a hand. The Metro has 206K miles on it and still runs great. Of course its seats are hard but it gets me to work.
  13. Translation: Dang, they are making it on their own without us now we can't just steal whatever we wanted. Is that close?

  15. I not only remember the 70s but have a LOT of memories of them
  16. If I remember correctly, that ship was bringing Mazdas to North America. Not exactly a disasterous loss.
  17. I'm 38 although I consider it 17 anniversaries of my 21st birthday. And if anyone gives me too much crap about being old, I'll beat you with my walker and run you over with my wheelchair. I need a beer.
  18. Yep, if you look, the sterring wheel is still on the right side. I do wish they would bring back the El Camino. The Ute would be a great starting point, IMO.
  19. I think someone has a gun to Fly's head to make him type that.
  20. Another 72 Chevelle SS 454 here... Hmmm, one year off my brothers Chevelle and you need to make it a convertible. Should I just go tell him that the car in his garage is actually mine?

    Arrrrrg

I wound up being deployed when my license expired so after I got back I had my wife take me down to the DMV and took copies of my orders so there wouldn't be any trouble. That's when I found out that all military (active, reserves, and guard) can get their license with a 'military' expiration date in Washington State. Now, I don't have to renew until 6 months after I leave the service. And since I am civil service and will retire when I reach 55, that's 17 years from now.
  23. I'd love to have a 89 Turbo T/A, personally. But these trades ideas don't serve your purpose of selling the Firehawk, do they?
  24. You should see some of the car collections up here in the Pacific Northwest. Its amazing what is up here. The LeMay collection itself is incredible and will be available for viewing all the time as soon as they can get the museum built. I love watching the cars that are down in SoCal. With your weather the come out more than our rare cars do.
  25. And Probe was such a bad name, in my opinion. I couldn't buy a car with that name. Too many bad jokes come to mind.
