  1. I pretty sure this engine is 90% all new and shares little with the LX9 3500?
  2. It has a very good starting price and nice looks but it is a porker in the weight department at nearly 3000 pounds and doesn't have any more interior room than a Vibe/Matrix, and probably won't have as good fuel economy. The big 3 need to study the Aitkens diet.
  3. Your right I don't know what I'm talking about. I was being sarcastic.
  4. Interesting scheme. Move your head office out of sunny California and you know you'll loose a good chunk of your workers and then you can replace them with new ones with lower pay and no pensions.
  5. Well at least we're off to a decent start. Like someone mentioned GM needs to string together a few months in a row of increses and they don't have to big they just have to be up over last year so they can build some momentum. I think the lower priced 4 cyl model is helping the G6 more than the coupe. At the Detroit show I talked to a women who was answering questions at the G6 display who worked at the G6 plant and she told me they were building about 75% sedans, 25% coupes. let's hope the coupe picks up steam when more people see it on the road. Malibu sales were up but don't forget last year the Classic still sold 8k units and the Malibu's increase didn't pick up all of those sales. it will be interesting to see if the Equinox drops off as the Torrent gains. Pray for a 3.9 engine option for for both in 07 for the people who actually care what the motor is in their vehicle and leave the Wal Mart engine for the Soccer Moms.
  6. I'm typing this right now on a Mac G5 so I don't see how they can use the G5 name, wouldn't Apple have the rights to that name. I hope they can't use it.
  7. All you did to your 94 Cutlass was an alternator? I have a 91 with 130k and have changed tons of stuff.
  8. Sadly i've never owned any of the above, only an S10 and a Cavalier.
  9. I much prefer the look of the sedan. We all know they botched the launch by not having all models / engines ready from the start. I still think the G6 can build momentum and sell 200k a year once people start seeing them on the road. All of GM's bad press about bankruptcy etc is surely hurting sales of all thier models. I'm hoping in 07 they'll add Onstar and side airbags as standard equipment.
  10. The new one definitely looks a lot cleaner. I like the way Chevy has removed the chrome bar that used to go right through the headlights. They need to do the same with the Equinox. They also got rid of those bulging fenders.
  11. Thank you GM Canada for finally axeing the Epica. Another failed Marketing effort.
  12. This is old news. This J.D. Power survey was released last May.
  13. Quality is the most important thing. GM may have made tremendous improvements but they still have a lot more work to do. And when they have a major screw up like the intake gasket leak on 5 million 3.4 engines they should come clean and offer an extended warranty. I personnally know 7-8 people who've had this problem and they are pissed at GM. Just this week my friend at work found out his 97 Venture's motor is toast, $1500 bucks to fix it. The mechanic we went to told him he works on these motors all the time, intake manifold leaks, head gasket leaks, crappy Dexcool coolant etc. Do you think he's gonna buy another GM? Not gonna happen, he's junking it for a new Toyota. My brother in law blew the motor on his 99 GP because of the same problem,he drives a Honda now. The sad part is aside from the gasket problem the 3.4 is a great engine when it is properly serviced. If they had any brains they would of recalled this and offered to fix the problem or at least extend the warranty. Instead they just play dumb like nothings wrong.
  14. When Bush was cornered on this question what would be wrong with him saying something to encourage the pubilc to take another look at American cars when their in the market for one. Yes they have a lot of work to on their costs, pensions, health care etc, but he is the captain of the home team so what's wrong with saying someting positive about them, it would take 15 seconds for him to make a comment like " I know GM and Ford have a lot of tough issues to face but I know they have a lot of excellent products, U.S. manufacturers can compete with the best in the world".
  15. I think he means if this Van would of been serviced at the dealer there is a better chance this problem would have been noticed before it was too late. I know both my local dealers routinely check the intake manifold gasket on every 3.4 they service. Chances are the local wal mart oil change guy doesn't know the weak spots on different cars.
  16. I saw the new Camry in Detroit on Saturday and we all agreed that it was an awful looking car. Both the front and rear ends are ugly. The interior isn't all that great either, it looks better in pictures.
  17. You can see the guy and his vette on GM TV today.
  18. Just got my semi annual gift in the mail yesterday from GM Canada, as a loyal customer I can get $1000 off any vehicle before March 31st. The good news is if I don't use it another one will be coming in June or July.
  19. Definately no minivan for Buick please. I know the PBG dealers might want one but I don't think it fits where any of these divisions want to be in the future. Canada is a different story because the Montana has always managed to outsell the Venture so I could see them doing another badge job to keep dealers happy. I say make one world class van for Chevy and let them try to take share from Chrysler/Toy/Honda.
  20. They need a world class minivan. They've needed one for the past 25 years. I don't see how they could not offer a minivan when even the little guys like Kia have one now.
  21. I'm sure it will take sales away from the Civic. Honda Loyalists who are put off by the new Civic's goofy interior will choose to save a few grand and get this thing.
  22. I know the 120 HP didn't seem like much but it must have been the 205 torque that helped this motor cause it did have a great kickdown and I was able to beat friends who had a 78 cutlass with a 260 and a 80 lemans with a 267 and I could almost keep up with another friend who had a 79 Monte Carlo with a 305 4 baril.
  23. What surprises me about the intake manifold gasket and head gasket problems on these motors is that the problems continue right up to 05 as your saying. Don't they know there is a serious design flaw that has caused many people to lose and engine and GM to lose tens of thousands of customers? Just yesterday my friend at work got bad news about his 97 Trans sport with the 3400 needs a head gasket job. He's got 140K on the motor and he did the intake manifold gasket repair at around 100k. He's been asking around at different garages about getting it repaired and everybody he talks to gives him the same story that doing motor jobs on these vehicles is paying their mortgages. One garage said they just did a motor job on a 2002 last week. You would think GM would have the brains to advise owners about what to look out for on these vehicles and to extend the warranty on them. I thought they came out with a revised gasket about 5 years ago but if they did why are late model vehicles still having this problem.
  24. Congratulations on your new G6, I know you were looking at them for a while.
  25. I pick up a Detroit TV station on my dish, Local 4, and when their "Car guy" reported the Fridgeline won truck of the year he said "orders are piling up for the Ridgeline and Honda can't build them fast enough". Pure bull.
