  1. ^^This.Buyers want it and buyers will buy them + doesn't hurt or helps CAFE ratings = The answer. The OHC vs. OHV discussion is fascinating from a technical standpoint, I'm sure, but the fact is that GM has to provide the market with what the market wants; don't do that = no sales => no revenue => no profits. Simple.
  2. Most likely, that's the chunk of "high volume" they're after, not the Camry, etc volumes

  4. Cabrio would be perfect; not so sure about the 3-door (Scirocco isn't sold in the US; not sure what the sales numbers of the 3-door Golf GTI are to see if a 3-door Astra could be sent there). The Astra Wagon is a big question mark as the US market seems to favor CUVs and for that Buick will have the Encore.

  6. The Allante, Cutlass Supreme Convertible and Grand Prix are the best looking ones; probably the only designs in that bunch that stand the test of time IMHO. Always loved the Allante's looks On another note... L'ad for L' Pontiac LeMans is, at best, L'aughable (see what I did there??? )

  8. Hopefully that's what will happen. I do think, though, that GM is still quite unsure if they want to take a large risk with Cadillac in Europe. That shows in the inconsistency of their apprach over the last 20 or so years; the dealer issue is just a reflex of that inconsistency IMHO.
  9. If they take the XTS and rebody it as a wagon/CUV cued thing, it could be interesting... Opel's take on the Citroen C5 idea, maybe? Just a tought...
  10. Not surprising that this one won't come over to Europe... Sad thing is I really think Cadillac needs a larger than CTS car as an image booster over here, even if the volumes are ultra-niche. The idea of a large, all American-looking automobile could very well help to turn people to their smaller and better suited for Europe cars and CUVs... The Escalade does that job well in the US, but for Europe I think it would have to be a sedan.

  15. Yeah, I know. The old product planning decisions will take some 4 or 5 years to correct; it can't be done overnight. I didn't use the name Lucerne, but I understand where you're coming from on that.
  16. So, that's 2 coupes: ATS and NG-CTS? Interesting!
  17. Aston Martin's positioning is quite a bit above M3 and ATS-V territory... Not if they want to have a fuel efficient car to protect their top end auto's. Building a ATS-V or M3 competitor that runs on a Twin Scroll Twin Turbo V6 to help push up their cafe numbers would be a smart move. I don't think that's where Ulrich Bez was going with the statement. To me he was talking about downsizing engine size without going downmarket.
  18. Wasn't the issue with the coupe all about positioning, i.e. as an ATS Coupe, a CTS Coupe or someting in the middle (like the Mercedes CLK was before it transformed into the E-Class Coupe)? The rest of the news is great news; GM/Cadillac needs to shout out really loud that the ATS has arrived (and it absolutely has to offer a diesel engine for Europe).
  19. Aston Martin's positioning is quite a bit above M3 and ATS-V territory...
