  1. The NAV isn't about what people will buy. It's about giving the car that upscale look in the ads and brochures. GM needs NAV in their cars and they need the Black Tie replacement. I know this Malibu was to early for the later, but there is no excuse from GM on the NAV (and this coming from a very pro-GM person).
  2. So far all of the reviews on the new Malibu seem positive. No longer do the articles read, great car but still not as good as honda and toyota. They all have the same theme; try the Chevy BEFORE purchasing a honda or toyota. Now lets hope the Cobalt replacement comes soon, and with the same type of comments.
  3. I think this is something we all expected, and I'm guessing this will be the theme for the next year plus. It's sad to see Ford take such a hard hit, but reducing their dependency on fleet will only help in the long run.
  4. Typical Edmunds.
  5. I think the history of the W-body is a great example. The pre-1988 models had been known for good quality and high sales. The 1988 thru (in some cases) 2001 models had lackluster sales and had nothing but issues. Starting in 1997 with the Buick Century they turned that model lineup around. Case in point; 1985 Monte Carlo = Collectors item, chassis had great sales numbers, loved by many, hated by few 1990 Lumina = Brake issues, electrical issues, etc., not able to give them away 2007 Impala = In top 10 for sales and in top 3 for quality rankings and built at #1 plant in North America (or #2 depending on year)
  6. What interesting in this tough market, is that GM is gaining retail share. Something they havn't seen in years. No other major manufacture has seen the kind of retail increase GM has without entering new markets (classes of vehicles).
  7. I think it will be down because of the intro of the new accord.
  8. Great writing on your part. Stating facts and staying out of the name calling.
  9. Could this be the upcoming diesel? What are the spec of the engine?
  10. I, for one, will start considering Chrysler products now that they are "American" owned. Well, once they build something I would be willing to own.
  11. Why not. Fix what is needed, pay it off quick and enjoy.
  12. A Tahoe diesel would be great, but the better answer is to have options of both. Not everyone is into the diesel scene. Time to give GM credit for doing both. Something NO ONE but GM is doing.
  13. If the car hurts my eyes (toyota, honda . . .), I don't let them in front of me if I can help it. Really though, I don't want to encourage someone who takes money from my kids schools so I am generally nicer to people who buy American.
  14. Cool. Not suprised GM notices the site, great to hear they help promote it.
  15. The latest version of Autoline Detroit makes me think that the press is starting to get the idea that the foreign cars aren't so hot. Comments on the new accord include, loud & buzy. toyota isn't given much for positive comments on their current state. It was even noted that a few years ago the head of toyota bowed and appologized to Heads of State in Japan only to have the years following have toyota continue to produce poor quality products. http://www.autolinedetroit.tv/
  16. The LaCrosse is nice, but the Impala offers more for the money. Examples; 1. The LaCrosse backseats are useless for anyone over 5'5". 2. The LaCrosse does not have an IPod hook up 3. The LaCrosse costs more money new & used 4. The LaCrosse has a smaller trunk
  17. Wow, its becoming daily vs weekly for toyota.
  18. It looks like we have a list of typical Americans who keep junk they don't neet. My wife and I have always had the mindset that if you don't use it atleast once a year it should be thrown away for sold. Each of us get one exception to the rule. For me it's my car brochures (dating back mostly to the 80s, but a few in the 60s). Even our house is "European" simple. Picture a home done in 80% IKEA.
  19. Any guesses on what the sport compact announcement will be? It seems a little late in the Cobalt production to bring back the SS. Could it be the new Cobalt?
  20. While toyota has put their money in the North American market, GM has been smart enough to invest in other places. With China, India & Russia being strong places for GM and not toyota, GM could very likley increase their lead over the next couple of years. Add to that their come back in the US and well . . . It's time for toyota to fall.
  21. Not suprising. History is what we want it to be by who we are. Even modern day documenation of history will have slants.
  22. I don't think our problem with Mexico is the same as Europe’s and our problem with Muslims. When I traveled abroad the concern that I heard was about fundamental differences. Many were concerned that the incoming Muslims having very different views in key areas like war. Give the immigrants a generation to have citizenship and a peaceful country like Switzerland can change to a nation believing in war by vote and upcoming politicians. Things I heard concerns on; 1. How women are treated. 2. Opinion of Capitalism 3. Positive stance on the Jewish & Hindu community 4. Support of the US (though many countries don't like what we are currently doing they still like our overall political stance) 5. A religion that does not melt well with other religions (stance on Jesus, stance on the Jewish community, and stance on Hindu community, war, etc) Compare that to the concerns Americans have with the Mexican community; 1. Don’t speak the “language” (same issue with Muslim community in Europe) 2. Take jobs (same issue with Muslim community in Europe) 3. Coming over illegally (same issue with Muslim community in Europe) Key positive things about the Mexican community in the United States; 1. Basic same religion 2. Basic same beliefs 3. Though women have a different stance in society, they are still a voice that is heard 4. Believe in the US 5. Same basic belief about war
  23. I wouldn't disagree that the Epsilon is a better platform, though we thought the overall quality of the interior was better in the Cobalts vs the Malibu. What about the 2008 Malibu? It seems like they would be worth the extra cost over a W-body. My parents had one of the original W-bodies (1988 Supreme), my wife and I have had two (1998 & 1999 Intrigue), and my parents had a 2000 Regal. The later versions held up well, but I do think that any of the modern W-bodies float too much and don't feel as nailed down as the Epsilons & Cobalt.
  24. My wife and I had one for 40k miles. It was trouble free and got great gas mileage (over 40mpg). We would not have gotten rid of it if our kid wasn't so rough on it and we wanted something bigger. We woudln't hesitate to get another one.
