  1. Here is the latest from Jayski.com a web side that has the most accurate NASCAR info. Even drivers look here when they are wanting to know where they may be next year or who is interested. Anyway here is the latest on news of the Monte's exit and the arrival of the Impala. Also note the Bush series news of a Mustang, Camaro, Challanger car is still alive and we now have all three car anounced for production this time. The last time we only had the Mustang in production and waiting for offical word of the other two. Jayski. com: 10/24/07 Dodge and Chevy to change models in 2007: Beginning in 2007, Dodge and Chevrolet will campaign new models in Nextel Cup competition, Yahoo! Sports has learned. Dodge will run the Avenger, while Chevrolet will run the Impala SS, according to sources with some of NASCAR's manufacturers. The change also was indicated in a technical bulletin distributed to all teams last week. Both Dodge and Chevy soon will announce that they have been given approval by NASCAR to change to the new models, with Chevy's announcement possibly coming as soon as this week. According to the sources, the stock car version has been approved for use by Dodge teams for both the current Nextel Cup car as well as the Car of Tomorrow version, starting next season. The switch from Monte Carlo to Impala could signal the end of the Monte Carlo name from the Chevrolet lineup, as its rear-drive design is used on its model alone and at the present time, no replacement is on the drawing boards at GM. However, unlike its Dodge counterpart, the Impala SS will only be used by Chevrolet teams for their Car of Tomorrow, according to sources. Manufacturers and NASCAR also are continuing to move forward with plans to change all of the models used in the Busch Series, perhaps as soon as the 2010 season. That change would put smaller, sportier models into competition, like the retro-designed Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger – as well as the Toyota Solara.(Yahoo Sports)(10-24-2006)
  2. You have to love Marks Camaro's! He had his original white 69 when he worked for us and then he built his red 68 before he left. He drove them to work daily. I also had hear a 700+ number but it was a dyno number and never expected it for production. Now with others going large on HP too, we may not see it at intro but I wonder how long till we see a 700+ number out of GM? I get the feeling the 505 HP Z06 that shocked us was only a first shot of high factory power we have never seen before in domestic cars. It will be limited availability but available none the less. The future looks amazing and fun. I can't wait to see what we end up with.
  3. It is the same car but Rad Rods by Troy only rebuilt the car. Troy fixed Mark Steilow the GM Suspension engineer started this car and it has had several builders involved after he left us to go back to GM. This car did and still had some teething pains. Troy added the Auto tranny, We drove it around Reno Hot August nights 2 years ago and it was still potent but not like the original 5 Speed Mark had installed. It would flex the titainium front drivshaft to the point it wanted to knock off the oil filter. I get the feeling with Roush now saying 700 HP is possible with the new Supercharged Mustang they are offering I wonder if GM may go for the 700 HP number? I had heard they had done it a while back in testing but figured the production engine would be cut back intop the 600+ range. Just will have to wait and see.
  4. It Transforms into a Bumble bee at 140 MPH....................Oh, sorry that's the new 09 Camaro!!!
  5. Not going to say it will or won't do 2.5 because we still don't know enough to make a real guesstimate. But This is what I know on AWD 0-60 time on the car we have at work. It is a 600 HP Lingenfelter powered 32 Ford with AWD it is over 2,500 pounds and runs a ZR1 rear drive and Syclone front drive. 0-60 Times are 3.5 Sec on Comp TA street tires. Now this car has no electronic aides of any kind and auto tranny because it kept ripping the clutch and driveshaft out with the 5 speed. Now on the other hand the front drive takes over 150 HP from the engine to drive. I know for a fact the car was much faster in the 1/4 mile in RWD than AWD. Now on the other hand with out traction control the 0-60 times were not as good in RWD as would be expected expected. But not by much! Bottom line factors need to be known Overall weight of the car? Final HP 625? 650? 700? Electronic aides and how they respond? Tires? Don't take for granted they are just the standard Goodyear Eagle's They could be some very sticky Supercar Eagles they plan to supply for this car. This is not going to be a regular production Vette so many liberties can and will be taken that are not on a Z06. The bottom line is even if it will not do 2.5 in the 0-60 sprint this is a car that will compete with car costing 5-10 times as much as it 100K price. It will be safe to say we will be blown away with what ever it does but to start arguing on numbers is a little too soon. Keep in mind the Z06 is doing thing no one expected for a car less than 150K.
  6. Bottom line is was their performance on par with other Buick or Buick, Pontiac GMC dealers? The ones in my area have no problem selling what they have and some have even built new dealerships to meet the new designs required by GM. If low sales and money were a issue I don't think I would have seen new dealers building new buildings. I think there is more to the story than just lack of product from GM and this dealership. Also those numbers seem low to me too. I would like to see a creditable list. Dealers have to adapt to new ways or die this may be a case of this.
  7. I would be shock that a folding hard top would arrive anytime before a new platform comes out after 2011. As for a coupe it could be done as easy as the bolt on Kamm back that has already been show by an outside firm. I think it is a no brainer not to offer the coupe as a alturnitive since it could be done very cheaply.

    GM Marketing

Thanks for the story and giving credit when credit was due for once.
  9. Earnhardt died of a broken neck. His spine pulled away from his head and that was it. The belt was not in the way Simpson instructs to put them in. He had his seats specialy made and he sat lower and farther back than any driver. Thus and the sudden stop all made for the most dangerous kind of a crash. The cars flipping and rolling a disapating energy and so the effects are much less on the driver. A hit into the wall and sudden stop will cause brain trauma and neck injury that often is fatal. Even if the belt did not break he still may have broken his neck. Other injuries were broken ribs and broken left leg. Bobby Allison said he had both feet on the gas tring to save the car and hit the wall with the side of the car. He then would ahve rode thew wall to the finish. The M&M's car hit him and prevented the car from spinning back. As for if he was the best or not, just aout all those who drove against him say he had more car control than anyone they has ever driven against. There are a few that hated him that would say different but many he punted will still say he was the best driver so I will take the other drivers word on it. Sorry no conspericy here. But the new safety changes will save many more drivers in the Future.

    ..

It as been reported to expect a carbon fiber body, bigger tires and brakes. 2900 pounds is the target with more aero downforce from the body panels. 625 and 650 HP are the most quoted ratings but 700hp is said to have been produced in testing Most say to expect a road going C6-R. I expect if the number are around 650 HP and 2900 lbs with all required performance mods, most buyers will be getting their moneys worth for 100K.
  11. Drows is a typo for Grows Sorry! If you don't know Bunkie you must not be a Pontiac fan. Bunkie Knudsen was thw son of a past GM pres and took over Pontiac in July of 1956 when Pontiac was close to being dropped for being an old mans car. He cleaned up Pontiac, brought in John Delorean, and Pete Estes to help make Pontiac what it was in the 60's. They did it with clean styling by removing most of the chorem and add on's tha detracted from the cars. They brought in the wide track. and worked to involve Pontiac in all types of motor sports. Bunkie first move was to remove the silver chrome streaks from the hood of Pontiacs in 1957 right before intro. He wanted Pontiac to have a new out look and win new buyers that would never have considered a Pontiac because it was not cool to own one up till that point. Bob Lutz today is what Bunkie Knudsen was to Pontiac in the 50's. A car guy who understands.

Thanks for the pic's It is going to be time to take a recorder to capture the sound of some of these cars since they are sounding so good.
  13. I am sure Lutz will see it is right before it is let out for us to see. Just keep in mind the Pontiac look mean different things to different people. So don't be suprised if it is a love hate thing when it is out. I beleive it is just human nature. As the new car is out for a while most warm up to the new style as it grows on them. Just keep in mind Pontiac has shook things up several times in their history and each time it proved to provide a improvment in sales. Some hated when Bunkie removed the silver streaks in 1956 but more people bought the cars after they were gone. The important thing is not to just make the Pontiac fans happy but the people buying Audi's, low end BMW's, Acura's etc. They are the ones with the money and give them a reason to look at the Pontiac. The bottom line is Pontiac needs to sell more cars and sell them to non Pontiac buyers while retaining the old Poncho owners. This is not an easy thing but Bob is one of the few I beleive that pull this off. No one ever sid it would be easy and your never going to please everyone.
  14. Finally a stable and logical coment here, thank you! None of us here have all the facts and should not get all bent out of shape on this yet. I agree, the GM we have today is much smarter than we are used to and I don't expect them to not learn from their past. It is a matter of survival at this point. The Solstice is everything the Fiero program was not. The made an extra effort not to repeat the same errors they made FIero and all is good. The Camaro program is everything the 4th genb was not and they are making sure not to repeat the same misakes there. As for Lutz no matter how you want to argue he has been at GM for 5 years so what is the point of arguing this point? It changes nothing. I think we all should sit back and chill and start talking about the new little RWD car and what we would like to see at Pontiac. As for the now this whole topic is going no where.
  15. I feel at this point too many are underestimating GM on this one. Too many don't want to understand this car is all new better funded and Lutz will get from the start what he wants. This car from the start was considered to also be a Pontiac and will reflect it in the final product. The way the GTO was was not what they wanted at the time but all they could afford with no budget inplace to support a new car line. Keep in mind they brought that car here on the budget of a minor face lift. If you don't believe GM will get this right look around and many of the things Lutz started 5 years ago are just hitting the market now and all have been positive. How many were wrong on the HHR selling as well as it has?
  16. Here was Chris Pauwels take on the future Impala RWD. He was close on the Camaro Concept with his drawing of it before it was shown to the public. If his info holds true this might bear watching. NOTE: DRAWINGS REMOVED AT REQUEST OF "TheGMSource" web site. I found them on Autoblog.com so if you look around they are out there. So in place we will enjoy a nice detailed drawing from tosil's post from below that gives you some idea of what the drawings sort of looked like. Now back to our regular program. Note from what I have read and been told 2-3 different versions have been made and all incorperate styling cues from the 1967 Impala. One version is full retro and one is a little more modern as were the two Camaro concepts Chevy did last year. I have heard little of the possible third design. If anyone has info on this one they might want to fill in what the concpet is on that one. We do know they plan to try to share many parts on the Camaro and Impala on the same line. This fits with what I was told a year ago that we might be suprised with what car shares the assembly line with the Camaro. Either way I in no way will say this drawing is 100% but it does incorperate many of the things I was told to look for in the new car last Feb. We will have to wait and see if we get a suprise at Detroit this year with a Impala concept.
  17. What is the point of arguing the styling since no one here reall knows what we are going to see. Lets argue this point after Chicago. At this point lets all just be glad Pontiac is getting a RWD Euro like performance sedan that may really be on the same page as a BMW. Think of it as a CTSV at a Pontiac price. John D worked for years for a car like this and GM finally approves it. This is the car the 73 Grand Am, 85 STE and 97 SSEI all wanted to be and never were. As for where it is built get over it. It comes down to cost and where the money goes. GM needs to build where they can maximize cost and if the unions will not let it happen here it will happen else where. We live in a world market now and the unions need to unerstand the good old days are gone as the work goes to the lowerst bidder. Harsh but ture as only the strong survive in the real world. Also The differance between GM , Toyota and Honda is the money for GM comes back here in the end as it is a American company unlike the others the other who try to claim to be.
  18. I guess I am tired of hearing the b!t%hinf that that does not look like a Pontiac or GTO. The fact is Pontiac means a lot of different things to many different people. Take the last GTO. Many said it did not look like a GTO. I would ask Pontiac owners what does a GTO look like? I got many different replys as most were or had been owners of the car in the past. Some liked the 1st gen others like the 2nd gen. I could not get a agreement on which one they should have copied. The division within Pontiac is nothing new as in the POCI many don't think there has been a real Pontiac built since 1979 and the last 400 rolled off the line. Thoes that are living in the past are foolish for not accepting the new cars for one they are losing potential new members to the club. They also are missing some really fun to drive great cars. These same point are being lost on the new Holden. Second, few take in consideration the GTO was what it was because Bob Lutz came to GM and needed a RWD performance car for a Division that had none. The plain hard fact was he also had no money or time to get a new car built. He did the best he could with little or nothing to bring us the GTO. It was nothing but a patch in a line up done on a shoestring budget. The GTO may not have been a run away hit but it was better than a empty showroom. Many didn't understand the money was so tight that the duel pipes and hood scoops had to wait till 2005 because they had no funds to put them on the 04. Money really was that tight. Same for the gas tank in the trunk. I expect Bob will be given the proper funds this time to make the new car a true Pontiac. But in the end but many will still complain no mattrer what he does. At this point I am just glad they are going to give us the RWD V8 we have been wanting for years. I hope the new car appeals to the market not just Pontiac fans as we need to bring in and make more Pontiac fans for the brand to survive. As for the cover of Motor Trend that is not GM's work so no one should be alarmed by that. Besides who here other than a few members from down under have seen the new car in person let lone drive one yet. Lets see what Pontiac is really going to offer before we condem them. At this point we know it will be base on the Holen and that is about it. It is a bit too early to jump the couch. Let's let Bob speak this winter and reveal what really is going to happen before we start complaining.
  19. I also am a owner of a 04 Comp G. I like my car but would drop it in a heart beat for a new Holden. Some of Pontiac's greatest cars were very plain like the 63 GP. Lets face it slapping a bird on the hood or cladding worked well in the 70's and 80's but it's not going to work today. Lets face it if BMW can sell their what I term plain looking cars Pontiac can find a way too. Good marketing goes a long way to sell cars and Pontiac has had little good marketing of late. The Point is Pontiac needs to appeal to all performance buyers not just the one who like screaming chickens and cladding. This is from a long time Pontiac owner and fan. I bet if John Delorean was alive he would embrace this car in a heart beat. He tried to bring the Eruo influance to Pontiac for years only to be stopped by GM leaders. Pontiac is just now entering his vision. Besides the VE is old news as we pretty much knew this was coming in some form. The real news is the small RWD. This speaks volumes of where Pontiac is going and I would expect it to spawn a 2nd gen Kappa too.
  20. Later cars also had alloy wheelsas an oprion with Goodyear Eagle GT tires 215-60-14 if I recall.
  21. Just find the guy at NAPA that knows what he is doing. The 2.8 is nothing special.
  22. All of you have got it wrong!!!!!!!!!!! This had got to be the new never seen direct injected 3 valve LS Diesel!! No plugs needed at 24:1!!!!! Ha Ha HA!!
  23. I don't know the proper legal term but it would go no farther than a co op. They would share some componets and buying from shared vendors to save money. Also I would see them sharing in things other than just trannys like AC/ Heating systems power steering systems etc. Air bag systems Anything that could be shared and save money. Buy in bigger numbers and save more money on things unseen by the public. Neddless to say we are safe from having Bill Ford and other Family calling any shots at GM.
  24. GM started the turn a good while ago you just don't fix a company like GM over night. With the problems they have had and other things that were flat wrong it was plain Rick was going to need time to turn the ship with support. Now if we had changed managment mid recovery we could have been setting the time table back and still had a good chance of not being any better off. I know they are not fully out of the woods yet but they are in the right direction. I think we will see steady improvment and with the way Rick has done this we will see less loss of what is good about GM vs what all we would have loss if a cut and slash manager would have come in. I fear if that had happened we would have seen some or all of GM sold off to save what was left.
  25. With all the Bi!*hing about the GTO Pontiac can't have it happing again. I can hear it now "It dosn't look like a Firebird" or "It does not have a Bird on the hood" "No t top"! ETC! Where would it end. There will be so much lame bickering that it is too retro or not enough retro they should just let it be. I love the Birds but I can't take the complaining that will come with the name coming back. At this point I think Pontiac would be better off leaving the GTO name and Bird name to rest for a later day. A new car with a new name carries no stigma or baggage to live up to and Pontiac needs a break right now. The GTO was a damn good car and though it was a older styling it was far from ugly. Most never gave it a chance and the dealers marking them up were the kiss of death. I have driven near every year GTO made and there was never a GTO that was as fast or better handling than the 2005 GTO. Even the Royal Bobcat! The folks who complained it did not look like a GTO should be asked what does a GTO look like? Then you would get the first gens arguing with the second gens. Either way Pontiac is in a lose lose situation with using the old name. A new name , new start and better marketing will make the new performance car a hit at much less risk for Pontiac. And no I don't like the G numbers either.
