On Autoblog.com the same picture is posted with this statement "The Pontiac G8 will have its own sheetmetal and its own interior, setting it apart from the Commodore".
-
You know that and I know that. That is what suprised me when I read in a reliable place in the press that they may be an option. I would assume they would have a check gauge light on the dash or they would be gauges that are not as important as Oil or temp. They could put a tranny temp and other less iportant ones down their just to capture the old styling theme. It's not a big deal with or with out and will just have to wait and see what they end up with. They also noted the door panels will be close to the concpet with color inserts.
-
I had read that the Camaro will get the 2 deep dish gauges and the 4 on the console will be optional. This makes me really wonder if the ones in the truck are really the production dash and console?

I saw this before else where GM did agree to give him a new car since this was a on going problem they could not fix. I can understand him being upset with good reason but I don't care if you 100 or 2000 miles from home you don't dive a car in that condition. He most likley did nor damage by driving it than what was already wrong. If he was coming back from the PRI show as stated he knew what he was doing and new he could press GM's buttons by doing this. He also knew he was doing great damage to the car by forcing it beyond the limp home mode. He was so wrong as he knew the car could die and in doing so could have killed someone else by causing an accident just tring to make a point and filming his outrage while driving and losing power including power steering. I know of a case where a HHR owner had a fowl smell in his new car. The dealer called in Detroit and a company rep came to Ohio to check it out. They told him to go to the dealer and Order a new HHR to his spec and they would trade it for his used smelly one. He did not need to make a video or set fire to it like some fool. The smell had to do with hot weather a and the glue on a cloth interior. GM at the time of their visit has had 15 this way. They are changing the glue. The bottom line this guy could make a video but whine less and not do more damage while filming it. He was not that far out in the middle of no where. A bit of a drama queen!!

Well when the car comes out with the Pontiac GM better keep the checkers as an option for those who complain it is not bold enough. Ypu know no matter what body they put on half are going to complain it is not enough or it is too much in the styling department. Pontiac can't win on this one.

We have not seen much in a jump till the Holiday. I think we need to be realistic about this as this is not a Aveo, Yaris or just little car that can and would be totaled if hit by a motorcycle. If the get a V6 in the 20's and near 30 Highway that is a reasonable goal for a performance car. I like many others will not be driving a 30+ MPG car even if it hits 6 bucks as I will not be in any mirco car I value my familys life more than that. Many will buy this car if it get respectable mileage for what it is. $3 plus gas did not hinder the sale of Mustangs much as they sold very well. Those who are so milage hooked would never consider a Camaro in the first place. This is much to do about nothig as the Camaro is not going get SUV numbers even with a V8. I still see a lot of new Tahoe's and just rode in my buddys new 07 Avalanche yesterday. I work in the performance field and performance cars are like a drug to many. They buy when gas is up, they buy when the economy tanks, they buy when buildings fall in NY, they buy when we are at war, The bottom line is these cars should sell well and what Ford and Chrysler are doing with their cars vs GM will have more to do with Camaro sales than gas prices. If mileage is that much concern GM will have a Cobalt Turbo that can catch any lost sales due to mileage.
-
Gas was to be $4 now but that did not happen. $215 as we type. One can't worry too much about it till it happens and that is another reason the V6 program will be more important than any V8 they install. Chevy needs to find a way to sell the V6 Camaro in like number as Ford does V6 Mustangs. If they had done that on the 4 Gen it may have never gone away due to poor sales inthe first place.

I don't put much stock in this as it looks like a 08 Malibu crossed with a Camaro concept. From what I heard the new car will be more 64-67 retro Impala base on Camaro under pinnings. I think the real thing will have a little more flair like the Camaro concept. This photo is just too toned down even compared to the new Malibu. Thus is more intune with what Lutz would have rejected.

Your going to see upgrades in many forms. Special colors, wheels, more HP [300 hp is not far off], a coupe, special editions like the Miata has had over the years. At this point it is in marketings hands to help keep it fresh with out a lot of heavy money investments. They will off many things to keep it fresh but they will not over sell the car. Mazda has kept sales limited to preserve future sales and demand. Porsche almost wrote them selves off when they over built the 911 in the 80's. Two much of a good thing is the kiss of death to any limited market two seater. That is why it is so hard to make a low cost two seater. You keep cost down but volume is so low you can't make any money and if you over sell the car dies in 5 years or less. The Fiero is a great example of this. I know there were many factors involved with the Fiero but the fact they built 140K the first year killed future sales and demand in the future. Pontiac really only wanted to sell 30K but the plant they had could put out 250K cars a year. Pontiac had hope the GM 80 F body replacment would take up the extra capacity when sales reached the 30K range but it was canceled. Once the GM 80 was killed this gave all those in GM who hated the Fiero the ammo to kill it. The Vette people were at the head of the line as they could not afford to lose any more sales of their own and hope to get a C6 approved. Chevy sells more cars and Chevy get more say than Pontiac. The Solstice will do fine and sales will decline slowly till a second gen is readied. That is as long as the economy does not tank and that could put an end to the Kappa. If a second gen makes an appearance it will also base a wider range of cars on it and help keep the 2 seater viable. The critical time is from now till a Second gen is approved. They don't need killer sales but they need to keep it from being a big money loser.. As for world wide sales I don't think we can compre that too much yet. The Miata is in more markets [Asia, Austrailia, etc.] The Opel is new to the market in Europe so It needs more time there. As of now only the North American market is a fair place to judge sales at this point. By fall we should know how the Opel is doing, we need a good summer to judge it overseas. Either way it should out sell the speedster just based on the lower price.

Toyota FT-HS Concept
hyperv6 replied to DetroitNut90's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)
Kind of looks like a Celica with a bad body kit. I bet it gets praised in the press by the same folks who said the Camaro was over done. I am just great full that of all the cars that Japan has produced cars you can count on one hand all the good looking ones and many of them were designed in Italy. Most of their designs are copies or ugly generic models. If they had made good looking cars Detroit would have already been gone and I am greatful that has not happened. -
One has to walk before they can run. Caddy needs to keep it under 100K and build a strong market that can move up once established. VW tring to sell a car for 100K was a mess in this country and the XLR V though a nice car has shown little growth in sales. Caddy need to build a strong presents in the mid BMW/ Benz range. Once they show they can compete there they can move up into higher profit lower volume cars. As for the 16 it was a nice dream but reality has to pay the bills. I hope they can restyle [smaller] the car as a DTS replacment. They styling was great and does not require a V16 or 150K price tag. You design cars with your heart and sell them with your head. GM looks to be using both now in setting Caddys future.

With the way things are today any good info is welcomed info. No all of us need pictures as we can read and reason. Oh, Merry Christmas too!!!!!!

It is time for Chevy to put a car on Castle Rock again they have done it twice in the past and it make thiem look like they are on top of the world. But they many not be able to do it any more as the tree huggers would protest they invaded the habitait of the thing like the Skunk Earthworm or the like.

Well Pictures or not this dovetail in with the Auto Sleuth syndicated column that was in the Akron Beacon Journel On Thursday. The Sleuth stated that it's insiders down under said Pontiac would become RWD in all models including the G6 and G5 replacments. It also stated that the GTO and GP mules were up and running in Austrailia. I thought this was old news at first but it also had other news that fairly up to date. I thought I would just start watching for news of mules. It also call the GTO and GP mules 2008 cars.

I can barely remeber but Living in Akron Ohio in the 60's and early 70's brings back a lot of Chevy memories. The All American Soap Box Derby was promoted by Cheverolet. They woulds bring many stars to town including all the ones in this ad. They would parade through town in a fleet of new Chevys and make a big deal for the event. Out of the lime light things were just fun as Blocker and Landon would get a litle buzzed and punched holes in the hotel room walls and the like for fun. Bet Paw did not think much of that. Bewitched even did a show that showcase Chevy and the Derby. Those were the days as Chevy had a full line of great offerings and events that were much bigger then than today. I can still remember all my Dads Chevelles 67-73 and Corvairs 63-66. In those days it was a new car every year since they were affordable and most changed greatly each year. I can still remember climbing in and riding in the rear window well of the Corvair while going down the road. It is amazing I still alive since I sent my early years when Car seats were rare and seat belts were an option. I miss the good old days. Now lets see if they can bring back Motorama back. That is one party I missed before my time but would love to see again. The Detroit show is grand but still has nver made it to the Motorama level.

How can the Kappa's be doing so great??? They have no trunk space, poor cup holders and a roof that takes a slight bit more effort than some others!! These are all things I have to have in a sports car!!!! In reality this is not perfect but is still a great car! I savor the future as GM turns things around they will run out of excuses to bash GM. I can see it now they will try to bash the Blue Devil for no third row seating!!!!!! Good job GM now let do the same in a high volume line in a sedan and make em eat their words. The Aura is a good start.

No matter waht Pontiac does people will B!+ch. It is either too bland or to over the top. The way I see it Pontiac has to define what they want ansd stick with it. They need to make sure it is something to draw more buyers into the dealers and sell to those that never before owned a Pontiac. Let face it many who bought the original GTO and Bonnie's are in rest homes today or maybe driving a STS or god forbid a Camary. I would like to say the VE is bland but Toyota and Honda both are selling bland to a great profit. Name one Toyota that is exciting??? Pontiac needs to sell what will sell to anyone not just the old Pontiac buyers. As of now they are not supporting the brand so they need to find someone else.

Why? 260 HP and a suspension that was tuned at the ring not fit the performance requirement? I will bet this car would out run a Mustang GT at VIR just as the 205 HP Cobalt SS did. That would be enough to earn a SS badge in my book.

They noted the Z28 would not be available with the RS package in the poll.

While not a scientific poll Hot Rod Magazine has posted the results of their poll. It give us some insite to the performance crowd and what they expect from Chevy and the Camaro. 1,700 people responded. Most questions were offered in the following form Very likley Somewhat likley Not very likley Here are the top answers. Top Tranny at 63% 6 speed manuel: This is not a suprise with this in a performance magazine I suspect the non enthusitast will make up a good percentage of auto buyers. Would you buy IRS as an option 36% Very likely But they only want to pay $1000 If IRS was standard would you pay extra for a solid axle: Not very likely at 43% and if they did it would need to be less than $1,000 These were a suprise to Hot Rod, I guess they under estimate there readers? Would you buy a stripper package? Not very likley 58% Would you buy a Perferred Equipment Group $3,395 Very likley 42% Performance Handling Package $1,700 Very likley 82% Interior Options: Leather was the choice in two options at 17% each and a 23% in a third. Rally Sport package Hidden head lights etc: 56% say they are very likley to want this but want to pay less than $2,000. Z28 Package 350 HP: 50% very likley with a 5.3 and 47% would pay $3,000 and 41% want it for less than $3,000. SS 350 Package 400 HP: 62% very likley but 51% want it for less than $5,000 42% would pay $5,000. SS427 500HP Package: 67% Very likley but 50% want it at less than $10,000 ZL1 600HP Package: 50% very likley but 70% want it less than $20,000. Here is the suprise!! Convertible 59% not very likley to buy and 76% want it for less than $5,000 over base price. Color: Black and Hugger Oarnge are at 21% with Marina Blue at 12% If you get time read the results and see what the readers said. To me I see the performance enthusiast are wanting a car that give performance with great value. In other words they want a loaded car at a cheap price. This is what Ford has been offering and why part of the reason the Mustang lives. I hope GM can offer a great high feature car at a value price but quality has to be there. This will be a great challange but if they can do this it can be spread over other lines and make Chevy what it once was GM's Quality Value Leader. As for this poll I feel it only showed what the performance people said and they are only 50% of the buyers GM is looking for. It would be interesting to see what the other 50% would want or expect in the car. I feel they would agree on keep the price as low as possible with as many features as they can get. Let face it few people in the real world want to crank window any more.

GM the last few years have shown us cars that are about 90% production one and two years ahead. Why they do that don't know but if the car is worth while it is worth the wait.
-
While I will be the first to claim the car is not perfect it is far from as being as bad as some what you to believe. I can remember a time when Miata Door handles were coming off in the hands of the owners but the press did not find much space to print that. This was a car done on a very tight budget and a very short time line to keep Pontiac alive. I amn sure we will see the details fix and many are being adress as of this time. Sales are slow due to winter and lets face it this is a low volume car and will not rack up big numbers. The Miata is not a major profit center for Mazda and we should not expect the same here. This is a car that will help make it cool to own a Pontiac again and help sell a lot of G6's by getting people into the show room.
-
Chicago is Pontiac's strongest market and has for years been where the big stuff happens. I expect early or near production cars for the GP replacment and who know the GTO? Also I see the future of Pontiac being anounced there. We will finally see the full offial plan of what they want to do with the car line. As for the Camaro I would expect a near production as some things still might change a small bit in testing.

It is NASCAR when you come down to it. Jim France of the France Family runs the series. They understand that you have to put on a good show to fill the stands and also understand a American car will help draw crowds. If you don't fill the stands a series will die. Look at Cart and IRL. I am sure this is only a car to fill till the new GTO arrives and RWD will rtn. As it is little on these cars is what I would term stock even on the 911's

This is a race car not a show car. If it take 3 wings to wing so be it. Pratt & Miller is not a ricer want a be outfit and know what it takes to win. I am sure they the tunnel numbers to back what ever they do to this car. Now if GM added these parts to a showroom car I might have to agree with you.
