  1. As of now they plan on 2 V6 engines and 2 V8 engines 1 V6 Non supercharged and non turbo around 250 HP 1 V6 Non Supercharged and non Turbo around 320 HP 1 V8 non Supercharged and non Turbo around 430 HP 1 V8 with Supercharger and around 550 HP will not be as bad as the Blue Devil but it will have the needed parts to support the added power.
  2. If things don't turn around soon with the new owner Chysler/Dodge will change forever. Their cars are not cutiing it. The Avenger Sebring are their most important cars and the best you can say is they are better than they were but no where near the compitition. It is not too far fetched the Chysler can end up just being trucks and jeeps if they do not improve their cars. If Daimler could not fix them who can? The only real volume bright spot is the PT and it is not as good as it used to be. Folks Chrysler is on it last stand. If the new buyer can fix them they live if they fail they are gone. To fix them I expect some radical changes and a much smaller company. Sorry the Charger may sell ok now but with added compitition sales will slide soon. It is a car you like or hate and I see the majority not likeing it or just indifferent to it. With few overseas sales and a new owner it will be interesting to see if they follow through with a second gen. They could use the money more for a higher volume FWD car that is much better than the Avenger.
  3. I only have called it the LS9 because no name has been give to this point. But it will be SC and around 550 HP. It will only be on the top line car I expect to be the Z28 a year or so after intro. Things I expecect it to lack are dry sumps systems and other trick internal parts the Vette SS will have. It will have enough to out power a Shelby. As for the V6 they are natural not SC or turbo needed. Keep in mind what it would take to make 500+ HP and still meet emissions and milage requirements. There is no shame in a SC. If a SC was available from Chevy in 1969 they would have been as popular as the Big Blocks were.
  4. In the long term the truck will se a profit the Zetas never will just because of long term builds and volume. Zeta is not inperil it was just on hold and that is now gone. Zeta is not going to rule GM and never was expected to rule it. You midsize FWD cars are now and have been your volume cars. The Zeta was only ever expected to sell overseas and only offer a line of cars in the States that Japan does not offer. The day of the Impala being GM's big seller is over when it goes to RWD and that is expected by GM. The Malibu is the new sales leader for the future.
  5. If it is the bright spot that tells me why Chrysler is selling for 7.4 Billion vs the 36 billion Dailer paid for it. Jeep is the only thing worth saving and with the last few models they have lost touch with the original buyers. Just try to sell a real Jeep gu a Compass or Liberty. I wish the new owners luck as they are going to need it.
  6. They would have gotten it together sooner if you could have loaned them the billions to move the Zeta up sooner. Can't build what you can't pay for. GM's not unlike most of us and have to budget their income to pay for everything, their pockets are not bottomless. Remember Zeta was delayed because the trucks had to come first since they make the money. There is no if the car is scoming and the V6 with the high gas will be important. 30+ MPG and good power will be key to the majority of sales.
  7. They also claim that the Gremlin, Pacer, Aztek, Rebel Machine and the like all had drama? Great looking car is a 1963 Ferrari Lussso, understated and refined. Are there things I would change on the G8...Yes thew tail lights would be first to go. But at least the car does not look like a Dakota Pick up truck. The picture of the green car above says it all. Keep in mind a well styled car would look good in any color. A bright florecent green just points out the truth. The bright green is like turning the light on an ugly date. She looks good till you see the truth in the day light. I agree that todays designs are not as good as they could be like the G8 but it is far from bad and compareded to the Charger it is more in tune with todays buyers.
  8. Any weakness can be an advantage. Chevy: "We don't offer Navagation Systems since only smart people buy Chevys". Or "Buy Chevy and don't let a Toyota tell you where to go". I must be the only one but I just don't get Nav systems. I can be in Charlotte, LA, Detroit, Washington and NYC and not have a map and never get lost. Our highways are not all that trickey. I did get lost in WV once but still came out where I was going. I even made Lake Tahoe with narey a wrong turn. Reading signs and having a clue before you leave home go a long way. I rank the nav right up with the red light that comes on and tells you your going to rear end something in the new Volvo. For Gods sakes hang up and drive. Do you need a red light telling you of impending doom infront of you? If your that stupid you should not be driving. Now I can understand the blind spot light indicator in the side mirror. That makes sense. As for nav systems use the space to save my MP's in. A 5000 song library would do me more good . Anyway if you have a good car promote the hell out of it and compare it to the compitition if it is better. It will prove your not hiding anything. Call Toyota out and prove your worth! The uninformed public will take not if promoted well.
  9. The Charger looks like a truck. I never liked the horse collar grill in the 60's and I don't like it now. What is next a square steering wheel and the rearview mirror on the dash? Just too much Dakota in the Charger for my taste. Also the LX interior may be on par with the Impala but the average price of the Charger is much higher so it should be better. The Charger screams look at me but to me for all the same reasons a Duster with a Mod Top did in the 70's. Now that was an idea that really aged well! I just don't see the Chargers design aging well and in a few years people will look back and say why did I buy that Purple or odd Green RT? What was I thinking just as my father did about his black and pink 56 Crown Vic he had that seemed like a good idea at the time. Too many designs that seem like a new bold idea today look a little silly and out of place in 10 years. The Charger RT colors and 70's stripe package do not compliment it well and wil not hold up in time. What's next a Levi's interior? The late 1980's FWD SSE Bonneville looked like a good idea back then as it was bold but today it looks a little cartoonish. The one that followed was a little more refined and distiguished. Besides all the complaints are on the standard GT car not the unseen GXP that will add spice to the mix. I am betting the zip will be in a more mature M5 kind of way. Lets face it the G8 is for the 30 years and older crowd. Let just say Pontiac will not add some odd colors, silly stripe and a wing from the 70's and try to think it is cool. The Judge stickers need to stay in the Year One catalog and out of any future GM parts book. "Been there done that and ain't never go'in back!" The G8 is a car I would expect to see at the Country Club for dinner and the Charger is the one I expect to see at the flee market for lunch. Just for the record I do like the LX in the 300. It is a design that has class and attitude with no cheap tricks.
  10. I have tried to clear this picture up to see if it really is a Two door or four door. The picture is just not enough to go either way. If it is a Four door I believe it is your Impala. It has elements of the Chevy SS and a little Camaro/Malibu. It there anyone here that can refine the photo to tell if there is a second pair of doors?
  11. Not sure what the engine is but we will have 320 HP reasons to like it.
  12. I do not know the identity of the engine but it has yet to see in any GM vehicle. The new engine has no forced induction and will have 320 reasons for us to be happy! I would expect this in a more upscale car around $24K-$27K. The base car at $20K will have to make do with 240 HP-260 HP. I do not know much on the 4.3 replacment but that sound like something to watch. I never really expected a 3.6 unless they could trim cost. Could it be based on a LS with only 6 Cylinders. Either way this more upscale V6 car will be the Volume car for the Camaro. As for the pick up trucks I wish they offered the I6 trailblazer engine but I expect cost has voided that idea. I excpect the Z28 to be the top line car to fight the Shelby. The SS will be the Performance GT fighter and the unknow up scale V6 Camaro be a RS or some new name?
  13. Well it will be built late 08 and on sale early 09 if all goes as planned. From what I have read and heard expect couple V6 engines. I don't expect the 3.9. I believe it will be something we have not seen yet. I also have gleemed that the V6 will be offered in 5 speed Manuel and Auto. HP will be one V6 around 250 HP and one V6 over 300 HP. The only blown engine will be the top line Camaro LS9 around 550 HP or what ever it takes to top the Shelby and 430 HP in the LS3. Upgrade parts will be available from the after market but it will take some time. The stock package should keep you happy in the mean time Too soon to give colors yet. I would be suprised if GM has that set yet. Silver and Orange I would bet will be in the mix as well as White, Black and Red. I suspect there will be a Blue in there some where too. Now all we need is a Fathom Geen. I would say the V6 may be a Honda killer but will have to wait to line them up first. I would expect the V6 would be a Autocross dream with a great balance. Now We can only hope they can lose a few pounds. I am more excited by the V6 package as with gas prices rising this will be a very important car. The prospect of a V6 going where the SS left off in the 4th gen in mind blowing. I am hoping GM proides sport packages to compliment the V6 and give it the parts to make it a very appeling option to those who in the past would only buy the V8. The price, standard features, fuel mileage, insurance cost all sould overshadow the base Mustang and really carry the Camaro.
  14. Here is the press release LIVONIA, Mich. (May 11, 2007) - For the first time in the history of ROUSH Performance, the company is expanding into the General Motors line of autos and trucks. Up to this point, ROUSH Performance has been strictly devoted to the design, manufacture and distribution of high-performance products for Ford-based vehicles. "This is a momentous announcement for our company," stated Joe Thompson, general manager of ROUSH Performance. "For the past 12 years we have exclusively offered Ford-based products. Our engineering and manufacturing divisions already do considerable work for General Motors as well as DaimlerChrysler so the time was right for us to put this expertise to use for ROUSH Performance. The brand name is synonymous with high-quality products that perform as advertised and come with the best warranty program in the industry. All these traits will be incorporated into products we develop for GM vehicles and other brands as we continue the expansion of our line." The initial GM products are ROUSH Power Programmers and Cold Air Intake Kits which were developed by the same engineering group which has had so much success in adding horsepower and performance to the Ford line for so many years. The ROUSH Power Programmers are handheld units which can easily plug into the truck to increase horsepower and torque, change the transmission shift points and firmness, alter the top speed or engine RPM limiter, adjust the speedometer for tire and gear ratio changes and a host of other adjustments.. These ROUSH Power Programmers have a suggested retail price of $499.99 are available for a wide range of GM cars and trucks including the Chevrolet Duramax, Corvette, GM Trucks, and many more 1999-2007 vehicles. The ROUSH Cold Air Intake Kits are simple bolt-on additions that increase horsepower and torque. Installed in minutes, the Cold Air Intake Kits include all the necessary hardware and a high-flow filter that is protected from the heat of the engine by a ROUSH-designed cool air dam system. The filter is washable and re-usable, and the modular intake tube will wake up even the tamest of engines as it flows more air than the factory unit. The Cold Air Intake Kit considerably reduces pressure drop across the stock air box and filter element. It comes with a rotomolded airbox to seal to the hood to reduce leakage. Again, the bottom line is less loss equals more airflow which results in more power. Through the remainder of 2007 the ROUSH Performance GM line will quickly expand to include exhaust systems, suspension components and other accessories. Those interested can visit www.ROUSHperformance.com to see all the new products as they are unveiled, or to verify that these new parts will work for your GM vehicle. Furthermore, the ROUSH powertrain engineers are currently working on a new ROUSHcharger* which will fit the 2007-2008 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
  15. It was just anounced that Roush for the first time will start to offer some aftermarket parts like tuners for GM truck. Can we see this as a look into the future? I posted a statment from someone a while ago from GM that There was a chance of a Roush Camaro. Either way We sell Roush products at work and they have some real quality items, not inexpensive but great quality. I see Roush products only being a big plus for Chevy and GM owners and I hope this leads to bigger and better things. Roush has always done a lot of work for GM but kept it quite. In the last year that has changed and we are seeing his company doing this for GM and not hiding it like the GXP G6 Show car with Roush plates and the work they did on the Solstice that was noted publicly. Could they be bracing for a decline in Ford work and are now going to explait the GM connection more?
  16. They can call it what ever they like. If they don't have a good car it is all for not. A good car sells itself just ask BMW with it's M5 or M3 or X5 Pontiac has already proven calling a G body at Bonneville and a Koren car A Le Mans dose not sell cars.
  17. I am thinking the same. Info is getting out on the car at nearly the same time the pictures show up. We sure don't see any Impala pictures do we????? Besides the blurry pictures and wrong wheels all we have is the clear hood dome. I think there is a little more to come we have not been shown
  18. Its the SS The brakes and front fenders give it away even without the hood picture. As for the hood I have to see it closed to see how it lookes. It looks like they want to copy the Ferrari 430 and Ford GT with a window But on the front of the car? From what I can find here is what is good for info. The name is SS and locked in per GM paperwork. The HP is 650 HP and it is under rated. The engine name as we have know is LS9 6.2 and supercharged It will have a MTX Tranny with Ratios: 1st 2.29, 2nd 1.63, 3rd 1.21, 4th 1.00, 5th 0.81, 6th 0.67 rev 3.15 rear gear 3.42 The rear also will be electric limited rear that will show up in the other RWD cars A new traction control/stability control system is coming that exceeds anything we have ever seen. Tires I have seen 335/25R/20 and 225/20R22, not sure on these so we will just have to wait. The roof of the car is carbon fiber. First Validation non sellable car build date Oct 07 First Validation Sellable car is expected late DEC 07 and first producton car start in Jan 08 if all goes as planned
  19. I was expecting the new emblem and glad to see they did keep it. This folks is only the first step to the recovery of Pontiac into a viable name plate again.
  20. Kickin Tires got a phone shot of the nose of the production car in red.
  21. It will sell because it will be a limited model at that price but people will complain petty things just as they do about the Z06 interior. In the higher price ranges they feel they can justify the little details more. It is not my opinion as I love the Zo6 and would own one if I could afford it. But the non loving GM people will be the first to point out anything they precieve as a flaw in the higher price range. As far as I am concerned most will not care either way on the Camaro with a post. Most will pay the dealer mark up on any supercharged Camaro. As it get to the higher price those would be M5 buyers would never consider a Camaro in the first place only true American muscle car buyers and fans will. If you want to play with BMW or Benz you leave that to a upgraded Pontiac Coupe on a longer wheel base. The bottom line is today most true hard tops are expensive cars and so few are around few people have the option to buy or afford any of the ones offered. The problem is the muscle car was once a bargin and still is when you consider what you will get in a 430 HP Camaro at $30K. But the Limited editions like the Shelby are charging near twice the price and are infringing onthe upscale car territory. If you start pricing them in that area the comparisons will come fair or not. As for the cheaper car GM is still playing catch up to what is the expected standard. With each new model they are getting there but with so many lines it has taken a while. I think the small GM truck have tank for the most part because of the interiors. The I5 is more powerful than most and is much better than the 4.3. But I have heard so many complaints on the interior and how it is such a turn off.
  22. In the price range $32k and under that we are talking about I don't think it is that much of a factor but on the top 500+ HP edition it would be a factor at near 50K. Most hard tops form Europe are all over $40K and things like no pillar are expected just as RWD. The Mustang sold like hell in the 80's because it was cheap and fast. In the 30K and under market that is the important part. Also it was Cheap to modify. People did not car if it had B pillar or that the Converitble was so floppy on rough roads. Keep in mind this car is not competing with a Benz or BMW. It is competing with the Stang and Challanger. Japan offers nothing in this market as does Europe..... yet. It is called Cheap RWD performance.
  23. To you it may be petty But to a few it will be bold error and show as much as the pillar does to you. They will claim the car will have lost the concepts original look. They will claim they will not buy this car for this one reason. See it goes both ways others have to let you have your rant as well as you will theirs. I don't agree with the pillar problem but I respect your opinion and others should do the same at this point. I think this thread has gone as far as it can go. It is time for both sides to respect each others opionion on something we have no idea which way it is going to be at this point. I think by now I know where we all stand. Let see what the finished product is! We could all be gripping about nothing.
  24. Just wait till they find the car will be narrower and have roof that is a 1/2 in to 1 inch higher. :AH-HA_wink: I understand what they are sayig but I also know this is a minority. If this car sells as well to the large group expected most will never know there was or was not a pilllar. Sales will go on and most that notice will just say I wish they could have left it out and still buy the car. This is the group I am in. As I have said those who are this strong willed about the pillar have every rigth thos be as we all have had sonething that bugged us on a car or truck. Lets fave it look at the Chevy and GMC full size truck. They are now sporting different bodys for a reason. At this point all has been said and it is time to move on. It would be funny after all this the car does not have a pillar in the end and all of this was for nothing :AH-HA_wink:
  25. Guys he has every right to say this and he won't be the only one. But in the large picture there will only be a handfull that will feel this extreem that it is a non issue in the big picture. It is no different than the reason I buy GMC vs Chevy. I hate Chvey grilles over GMC. Not a big deal to most but it effected my purchase. We also has the same feeling with some on the G8 and they would not buy it for some small reason. As for looking at a car and getting an idea of the drag of the car. It is not too hard to have a good idea if you know what to look for. Same goes for cost and weight savings. All I know is post are a cheap way to remove weight and adding strength without adding adding a lot of cost. Steel supports like a pillar are cheaper than box in rockers and reinforced roofs. Also it is cheaper than adding a lot of aluminum to remove the weight. The car can still appear as pillarless but they will have to find a way to make the pan stronger with out adding to the cost. Settlemire made it clear on cost and that it needed to be retained but he also said this car will run circles around the compitition. We know it will have the engines to deal with the weight and it will also have the chassie. For the Chassie to perform it will need to be stiff. Scott also pointed ou this car will have to have a 5 star crash rating or it will fail in the market because the insurance companies would eat it up. Again that provides us the idea it needs to be stiff. Even though the convertible is coming they may choose to make the coupe as strong and that will help the pillar less car but if they choose to not add the extra weight attributed to most convertibles in the coupe mayh have a pillar. It is that simple. At this point lets just wait to see what they do. as us arguing here is not going to change things. I know most in GM would rather have no pillar too, I am sure if there is anyway they can keep it they will. But you can't always have what you want Just as I still don't have a Ferrari Lusso in my Garage so I will just have to get in my truck a live with it. I also would expect the roof to be just a litle higher but most will never notice unless they read the specs.
