  1. This info was from Autoblog.com and they listed the scource as Dodge.
  2. I could do with out the G anme but it has come time to start with new names at Pontiac. Just as they did in the 50's when they brought the company back from where many said it would never recover. The names Like Grand Prix and Bonneville play well for the PONCHO fans but to the many who owned that Grand Am that rusted out, or that Bonneville that lost a cam in it's 301 or better yet the Grand Prix whos doors sagged so much they would not shut any more bring back memories to many people GM would rather forget. To few today have ever owned a GTO or 421 62 Cat let alone a Bonneville GXP let alone even considered driving one for the many years of cars that just never measured up. For Pontiac to survive they need more than the few Pontiac fans left to buy cars. If caddy can dump the Seville, Eldorado and Diville Pontiac can come up with some new names or unused show car names that hold some Heritage but with some freash newness to bring to the line up. Banshee, Rampage, Bandit Peguses or even lesser known used names like Can Am, 2+2 or even Catalina may have been gone long enough for a fresh spin. I am drawing a blank on some of the better show cars names right now, I can get my prototype book to get the better ones but I think you get the idea. A little old and a little new to bring a fresh out look and no ill preconcieved notions to the new fresh line up. Most of Pontiac's past drivers are in Nissan and Toyota today because of bad memories of past Pontiacs. When they see these old names they see a dead cars or a expensive problem not Super Dutys or a Judge. They see a G body Bonneville that never lived up to it's promise of Excitment or quality.
  3. Even then how expensive will the V6 be vs the Camaro and Mustang V8? A few dollars more you get a whole lot more. This car will be much like the original bigger, higher priced and only around for a couple years. Price is king with the Mustang and Chevy is working hard to give more at near the same price. Chrysler took the hard sell road with low volume and with the new owners will they put up with that for very long. They want profits and if not profits it like many other Chryslers will be gone and replaced with other volume cars.
  4. Here is what info Dodge released and was posted on Autoblog As we revealed a few days ago, the first Dodge Challengers to go on sale will only be 2008 SRT8 models. Today we've learned that those 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8s will carry an MSRP of $37,995 (including $675 for destination) and that dealers will begin taking orders for them as early as December 3rd. That's next Monday, people. If you were expecting to have the whole month of December to convince your domestic partner that a Challenger is much more important than Christmas presents, the deadline for that convincing argument has just been moved up. The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be available in three colors: Black, Silver and HEMI Orange. All will feature the same carbon fiber hood stripes as the concept vehicle, as well. The iconic muscle car that looks poised to beat the Chevy Camaro to market by a good margin is, of course, powered by a 6.1L HEMI V8 that's available with a 5-speed automatic or six-speed manual (though prior reports state you need to wait for the '09 for the latter). While power figures have yet to be revealed, this engine makes 425 horsepower in other SRT8 vehicles. Stay tuned to us for more info on the 2008 Dodge Challenger as it becomes available, which we promise will be soon. We expect pricing for the rest of the lineup to be announced sometime around the Detroit Auto Show in January. Also check out the Dodge brand's official blog called Red Letter Dodge, as we find information gets posted there first usually. None of this should be a suprise as never promised or hinted that this car was never going to match Ford or Chevy in price, size or weight. Dodge also looks like they chose the path to make more money per unit and not go for volume. Later cars should come in cheaper and less powerful but they will never be priced lower or be as light as the Camaro or Mustang.
  5. The G means little other than it is easy and cheap to get registered till the marketing people find a way to attach a meaning to it. No one at GM has to be affraid to offend anyone with Banshee or have pay the SCCA for the use of Trans Am. With the way names are registered by different people for many different things today you can owe money for just about any thing anymore. A good example is Gene Simmons of Kiss found the Money Bag drawing from the Monopoly game was not registered and he now owns it as a trademark. Now anyone that is to use this drawing has to pay him royalties. Marketing likes to make up names and meanings to suit thir needs too like some of the names in the past like Fiero. In 1984 It ment Proud in Italillan per Pontiac marketing. But the same name on a Firebird Aero Concept named the Firebird Fiero in 1968/69 ment FIrebird aERO concept. No proud Itallian was mentioned back then. And outside of Chrysler who else ever had Corintian Leather?
  6. Note my statement "As for the G8 HUD, if it has one fine if not it is still a car to consider to buy as the sum of of the parts make a car not just one option or emblem". I never said was only IF.
  7. As an owner of more than one car with HUD over the years I found it to be a vbery useful item in a car as has my wife. It is not as much a novalty if you have lived with one for a while. I would give up any GPS unit or one of the many airbags for a HUD anyday but I it would not make me not buy the G8. As for the G8 HUD, if it has one fine if not it is still a car to consider to buy as the sum of of the parts make a car not just one option or emblem. Please base you opinions on the latest gen HUD as it has become a very useful tool with Color and the many options including GPS in some GM cars.
  8. The HUD may be in the car later if and when once it becomes a Zeta. The DIC in the GM is not a big deal. The can't of ths dash It not like it once was and is a non issue. Having a present gen GP I can say if the final form of the interior is anything near the qualiy of the GTO or better I will have no issues with losing the HUD. Just please keep the idiot that did the interior of the present GP and added the turned dash to the GXP away from the G8. That dash reeks of trailer park trash. Just because it looked good in the 60's and 70's dose not make a good dash today. Sorry I can't scan the story since I have no scanner.
  9. With all the kind and accurate reviews of the G8, Astra, CTS and BU I just extended my subscription!
  10. I don't think by the way it read they ment the compare as a insult but a compliment. The did point out the car was the best Pontiac with 4 doors ever built. They also pointed out when pushing it through the drive to Polimar it handled everything thrown at it and even when mistakes were made it was very forgiving. They also loved the brakes as they never faded under heavy use. As for the interior they side the read seat was the best reas seat ever with a comfortable relined seating that would even suit someone over 6 foot tall well. They noted the power to weight range was as good or bettter than most the cars already listed with the V8. After reading you get the idea they really like the car and feel it is tops for its price range and only compre it to the more evpensive to show it is not far off from what they offer. I get the feeling that these will be a hard to find on dealer lots as they will sell quick. The limited availablility my be its biggest problem.
  11. The Pontiac G8 Lazerus Some had counted him dead and were wrong.
  12. Watch Cops tonight and tell me that the general public as a whole is not getting any sharper. They can play video games and name the people in Star Trek but many can not name their own Congress Rep they did not vote for. I find it sad. In marketing you need to keep it clever and simple to reach all the masses. In other words if you have to explain it because many in this country have little clue about what is going on here let alone overseas you should not use the term. As for the larger the crowd lower the IQ coment it was a qote from David Lee Roth about the fans at Van Halen concerts. I find it fits many in society well today.
  13. It is smaller and has a chopped down A body chassie under it. The fact GM, Chevy and the Vette people did not like or want Delorean to build this car was enough to prevent any use of the Vette for it. This car was done well ahead of the 68 Vette and as pointed out used to inspire it. If I recall it was strarted in 62-63 at a time The Vette people were fighting with Ed Cole to not build a 4 seat split window and still at that point not given thought to a C3. This is a good example of GM keep ing ideas and using them later. The Fiero was much the same. It was a proposal for a V6 mid engine Vette and was rejected by Chevy and the Vette team. But it was kept alive by GM design and later picked up by Pontiac late in the 70's for the Fiero.
  14. I just got the new Autoweek and they love Pontiac's new car. They have gone to say it is the best car Pontiac has ever offered. They said it was a blast to drive and clearly the best sedan in it's class. They said it was not a smooth at its limits where it got a little ragged compared to a A6, 5 Series or E class. But keep in mnd all were much more expensive cars and they did not fault the G8 for how it performed in it's price class. They also drove the V6 and liked it but could not push it with the PR guy with them. They did note it was slower and ws not available with the FE2 suspension as the GT was. They did ask if it might be offered and did note Pontiac listened. No word on a FE3 but I would expect it for the GXP. They also noted the lack of manuel tranny and said it may not be available here? This I will wait on as it has canged often and could change again. Well anyway add a GXP, Wagon and Truck to this line Pontiac will be much stronger and this VE chassie is only a first step to a newer Zeta [hopefully] later with a Alpha coming in soon after. GM is on a roll, God it is good to see it! After I got to spend some time around a G8 I get the feeling I will not be able to wait till I can dump my wifes Comp G GP after a test drive. Good Job Bob and the GM staff!!!!
  15. Dump the UTE. To many idiots out their with no idea what UTE is let alone how to pronounce it properly. You have to keep in mind the general public when giving a car a name. The larger the crowd the lower the general IQ.
  16. Very Clever! Unlike some of the others! I like this one as you could play up the old Pontiac GTO line The Great One. Hmmm.... The Pontiac GR8-1
  17. I hope this idea does not carry over to the G6. Though we could get Ozzy to help market the 666 limited editions.
  18. I am going to stick to my Pontiac G8 Trans Sport but as two words for Trans Sport. The ad can read a The Pontiac G8 Trans Sport a Pontiac that really can Haul As... much as you like.
  19. If it had not been used so recent Transport would be a good name. But too many will remember the goofy over done minivan.
  20. The changes on the SEMA car are a good clue of the future. Pontiac has long used SEMA to show off future styling on some of their custom cars. The G Force GP concept in 02 comes to mind as a good example of future ideas.
  21. I agree fully that any positive press is good press but but COT is not what it used to be. Too much has come out in past stories on how cars are chosen. Also just on the list of past winners few cars live up to thier claim to fame. Truth is many things no longer hold the meaning they once did. As pointed out the pace car at Indy mean less than it once did as the 500 is no longer the race it once was. [i hope this will change in the future] I can remember the excitment over the 78 Vette pace car but today can name what years the Vette pace in the last 10 years. Even the IROC race of Champions had become a race of NASCAR vs who ever else might show up when it once had the best available driver in the world in it. Many things in the automotive world just don't live up to the hype they once did in. As of now COT is cool if you win and who cares if you don't. It has never made break a cars future. I would love to see the Malibu win but does it really matter in the end. It did not help the Tempest in the 60's and its rope drive shaft.
  22. Hmmm, someone is paying good attention to how GM works! Just be glad it is not into methane powered cars or it called the Fart.
  23. Thank God it has 19 cup holders! It is amazing how the same folks who rip GM for their trucks grow so quite when Toyota makes a full size truck or SUV with the same or worse milage. Some are so two faced. I guess Al Gore has a new ride to his private jet.
  24. Could also be it is a 08 and they are picking the 07 car of the year? Besides I think GM has to submit it too. Besides the car of the year means little than a little press as past winners have not always been the best cars.
  25. I have decided I do like the scoops now that I have seen them on the real car but I do with they were or had ligitimate function. This car will be a hit!! I can't wait to see what follows with the new Pontiac line. Are the new wheels 18 or 19 inch on the oange/red GT? Also check out the ad in the new Automobile of the new G8. It is title the Return of the Great One.
