  1. I speak not of Phoenix Enthusiast [were there any?] I speak in terms of general Pontiac enthusiasts. They would be the only ones who would remember or care what Phoenix means. Pluse anyone over 35 would remember the X cars. A new Pontiac needs a new name. Any use of a old name carrys some legacy [Good] and most times bagage [bad] with it. I went through my Pontiac library and Pontiac had some good names and some really lame names over the years.
  2. God forbid we do something original and come up with a name that is new and not owned or registered by another enitiy. Pontiac has too long lived off or old names that only matter to a handful of enthusiaist. It is also our chance to show how Pontiac can and use new names for their new cars. How would the 1964 GTO sold if it was called a Star Cheif? If anything old was used I would rather see a XP 400 or Banshee [i knowe it was killed several times because it means wailing Ghost] Or some other show car name that has Pontiac ties but a fresh name for the market. Sprint is out as I loved my Big Block Sprint SP but the name sucked. As for Phoenix it was already used on two lame cars. Might be time to dig up some new original Native American name. You would think those here could do better than what already has been posted.
  3. Core samples, Ships records and recorded observations do give us a glimps of what world temps were in some regions. They give a good approximation. Most of them show that the world temps do swing up and down over the years but because theses are approximations many can still debate the final meaning. The funny thing is so much of what the scientific community has said has also been proven wrong over the years. When MT ST Helens exploded they said that area would be lost for years. Now the Wild life and plant growth is better than ever due to the better soil today. As time goes on that area is better than even before the blast in many ways. Where the Nuke plant went off in the USSR they said it was a lost area for 10's of thousands of years. Well today you can go in and radiation levels are low enough you could live there if you like. The animal population is thriving and plants and trees are showing no ill effects. The eath is regeneration and in many ways no matter what man does the earth will reclaim it more quickly than may so call experts think. There recently have been two shows on TV out lining what would happen if many vanished. Most traces of many would be gone in only a few hundred years. This is something I have know for a long time as one only has to abserve abandoned human sites and see how they decay to nealy nothing in some cases only 50 years. I have seen homes, cars and machinery rust and decay to nearly nothing in the Smoky Mountains. In not too many more years all traces will be gone unless you do a major dig to liik for rusted nails or a foundation. I have heard from both sides and can say that the people who are behind Global warming have proven their case beyond all doubt. Just seeing the Law suit by the present group of meterologist should send a message more still needs to be learned before you sell the farm. Untill then I would refrain from siging any deals named Kyoto as you had better know or have indisputable proof before putting the USA at a disadvantage in the world economy.
  4. Pontiac has lived near two decades on 3-4 cars. The 80's were all Grand Am, TA and Bonneville. The 90's were all Grand Am, GP, TA and Bonneville. All other models were never a factor. The Future a Solstice, G8 line, an Alpha G6 and a small Mini Like FWD would work fine with a Buick, GMC Pontiac line up. No pressure for high volume if all models are shared world platforms. If Pontiac survived with too many models when only few sold they can live with a few models when only a few are expected. Quality over quanitiy.
  5. It is all about money not Global Warming. There are many people who have or stand to make a lot of money with the new eviro laws. They have found groups that are anti Govermnet or Corperate that are willing to fight this with their reprogamed minions. They use these evireo groups just like lobbiest are used by corperations to make money though influence on the goverment. No matter if Global Warming is true or false or proven or not is another argument. But look at the people who are beind it and what they have to gain. The profits in the Gloobal warming can be great. Just in Ohio the E Check for car was passed by many of the same people who invested in the company. Now to keep everyone happy after the law was thrown out it is free as the state is getting funding form other things like the Tobaco law suit money they recieved. The company that is perfromning the service has had the contract renewed and the investors are still making a buck. The key problem is most of the car pass the test even with things wrong. I have seen cars with converters missing one on a Viper by buddy has and pass. They had no idea where to look or even perfrom the test correctly. They even tried to test another friends Fiero on the Dyno they no longer use on the front wheel. This is what was advertised as a highly trained staff. Note also that any corperation that tries to provide data or testing info is bashed and discreditied before their info is even read. It is a power struggle over money and the public is caught in the middle. The truth is there are lies on both sides and Al Gore is nothing but a Lobbyist in the public domain. By the way the air in NE Ohio they calim is Horrible but the truth is it's cleaner than in the last 100 years. We no longer have any industry or labor jobs but we have very little soot or any work for many unskilled labor.
  6. Could it be they are not contrained to the use of a FWD Chevy platform that they have to slap on cladding to make if different? I am still working on the Pontiac is Car slogan. I have hear the new G8 spot is great. I have yet to see it.
  7. Here is what Scott also posted not long ago. Originally Posted by fbodfather ... Yes -- it will be a model year 2010 -- but we have not moved the 'start-up' date. We'll start building Camaros in the 4th quarter of 2008 -- and they'll be in dealerships in the first quarter of 2009.
  8. Much to do about nothing for those who know. Scott Settlmire has said for a long time that the car is a 2010 so nothing new there. Also I to speak to Scott when I saw him about a week and a half ago. He stated then in late Febuary the Camaro would be in the show rooms. GP is dead the Impala is being move and may already be set up on the new line. The Camaro line should be getting ready to be set up. Scott has said the pilot cars will be started late Nov 08 and production cars should ship in Febuary. This is nothing but a early mid year intro just as the 2004 GP was introed in March of 2003 and other GM models that apprear early in the year as a early mid year intro. There always can be a delay since nothing is being built but as Scott stated we should be seeing them a year from now.
  9. IF it is there it is not the end of the world.
  10. Look better all the time!!
  11. Toyota has not improved in NASCAR. Joe GIbbs has improved Toyota. All the other teams combined that Toyota has could not win with a Rick Hendrick car with old man Earnhardt back fromt he grave. They were all third level team. In NASCAR it is not the MFG but the Team and Driver with the new COT cars. The new cars have less down force and make the drivers work now. The ones who complain were driving over their tallent with the eaier to drive old cars. The bottom line is Joe Gibbs Racing won on Sunday Not Toyota.
  12. Autoblog is reporting the Solstice Targa may be seen in NewYork at the Autoshow. Production is set to start January 2009 and they expect 10,000 units.
  13. I just checked out the new pictures on autoblog.com. The car at this point is 99% the show car with the same frenders, wheels and no door handles. The door handels are like the XLR and Vette. The only thing left in question is the B pillar.
  14. As a present GP owner I also agree it was over due. Most info I have seen concure the last GP was 11-30-07 and the line is already putting out Impala's Keep in mind they have to have it up and ready for the Pilot cars of the Camaro in about 6-7 months. The Camaro is on time and should be in dealers next Feb. I have spent a lot of time behind the wheel of a 1963 GP with a [non stock] 421, and a 69 with a 428 HO. I even go to drive a 69 428 with a leather interior and 4 speed once. I wish I knew where that onw was today. I too do not like the G names but the old names have been used and abused so much they mean little to anyone outside Pontiac circles anymore. If they do mean anything it is in a negitive way any how. I own a 04 GP Comp G today and it does what I need it to do. It keeps the wife happy and it drive ok for a FWD. Besides when you can get a car that stickered at 32K for 24K new you don't pass it up. Pontiac did not make much on my deal. The GP was ribbed out a long time ago and was well past it's prime. while it may have been one of GM's top FWD cars it just shows how bad the others were. I even had a 1990 GP that was one piece of crap. Now having been in a G8 I can say I can't wait to replace our GP with a G8. While the G8 may not be perfect it is once giant step beyond what I have now. Who knows I might find the right emblem of a lesser known and less abused Pontiac name like 2+2, Grandville or Vetura to put on the G8 just to be different.
  15. Hummer is not done yet! We will see some in the 3000+ range at over 20 MPG and under $25,000. Don't fall for the Stereo type The H1 is gone. As we get lighter smaller trucks Hummer wil follow.
  16. What many fail to consider is that the newer Hummers like the new H4 will be better on gas, more affordable and better fit most lifestyles that like to off road. The H4 will be a Jeep Wrangler for GM only much better options. The H4 is a Home Run for GM just waiting in the wings. I could see the H4 being over 2/3rds of the Hummer sales in the future. The Aftermarket will love this vehicle and My company will make a fortune off of it. Not all future Hummers are going to be 6,000 pounds and 14 MPG.
  17. When I started this thread I already knew GM had nothing formal set for this car. I was hoping to see if we could come up with any plausable ideas why they would show it. I kind of expect they are pondering a new coupe that but on what platform? Zeta, Alpha, ??? Could they be testing the waters for a new car that is on a undetermind platform? There is something here but what is it? It seems a little counter productive to show a car like this and not have some motive. GM has started to show cars they only intend to build in some form here. I hope this was not just some Austrailian Taunt. As for stealing Fords thunder this is not the way to do it and the 7.0 car should have done enough of that. The Silver Camaro was on a cut up CTS could this be just testing the styling toward a new Alpha?
  18. Yep, Jag, Rolls, Bently, Ferrari and more. Also Harrison AC and Saginaw power steering had been used in many other lines.
  19. Don't be a defender of Pontiac Man or we will be forced to set you adrift on the same iceberg as him. :AH-HA_wink:
  20. Well same platform but a totally different car that would not direcly compete with the Camaro in Price, Style and over all a different car in a different class. This is not a rebadged Camaro like the Firebird was with 1 inch lower springs and a different nose like in 1967.
  21. Gee there must be an echo in here. I already stated it was from Motor Trend about three years ago. I did not need to repost all of them to make a point because most here also saw them in Motor Trend too.
  22. The 5 speed auto's was one of GM's greatest moves of all time. GM was contracted by BMW to build the 5 speed tranny for them and BMW payed for the development. GM agreed to do it as long as they could use it too. BMW agreed as just wanting an exclusive for if I recall 2 years and then GM was free to use it. They then had a 5 speed they did not have to pay to develope for the then new CTS. Then when it appeared in the CTS the magazines mentioned it had the same tranny that BMW used. Not a bad thing to say in this market if your wanting to break into it. I too am not a big BMW fan as I had too work on too many of them in the past. But this will help GM in credibility in the market with those who would have never consider a american car let alone a GM car. People are sheep and many love BMW. So if they think GM has a little BMW DNA it won't hurt anyting. Besides BMW wants to stay independent. The ony way they will is to have a dance partner with a larger corperation. GM can be that dance partner. GM can get some headlines and shared development cost so it is a win win deal. Just keep that damn I Drive out of the GM cars.
  23. When GM said the Manaro and GTO was canceled was this the whole story? Holdens new 60 coupe is very much like the GTO concept drawings in Motor trend about 3 years ago. Why would Holden show such a car near production trim if they were not going to produce it. With a G8 front clip a Pontiac coupe would be a simple addition. Could we be getting a coupe but it may just not be called a GTO? I ponder was the GM notice a hold vs a cancelation? The If GM would release this car next year they could get a 5-8 year run out of it before it could be changed to a Alpha. Even if Alpha was approved today GM needs something to sell for the next 5 years at the very least.
  24. Keep in mind 4N investers have a lot at stake if our auto industry regains it's strenght. Much of our economy is based on the auto indusry. If you invested in overseas investments it is best if Detroit does not return for some people. Investment people can be skeewed to what benifits them the most. Just like Doctors, Police and Preachers there are good and bad investment people. The only constant are Lawyers and they are all bad.
