  1. This is a upgraded T5 that is called a T660. It will be used in most new performance applications form 2009 and forward. GM did not delay this tranny in the G8 as they were waiting for the tranny to become available. Not the Challanger also did not get this till late as it is the same tranny. All the bashing GM took for the delay should really have been directed at Tremec.
  2. You must be the blind one as I never brought the Seville into this. Just more of your distortions and you still call one self an enthusiast. Hmm. You did help make my point though with Bill Mitchells statment on stealing others designs. Thanks I forgot about that one. So the full moon is still effecting you? My Benz point were many of todays cars using styling taken from the present Benz line. Many of the Asian cars today have a Benz tone to them. Besides todau no one woud steal from Rolls as todays cars are just creepy. I just saw Lebron Jame near may home in his Rolls and I will pass on that box. Give me a new Bently anyday.
  3. The wide grill was from the French in cars like the Talbot-Largo in the early 30's. There were several others too but most were one off coustom bodys. Most design Ideas for hundreds of years have originated from France or Itally like it or not. The French gave us a little more than expensive wine, smelly pits and the international sign for surrender. American designer spent most of their time taking Ideas from Europe and incorperating them into their own original designs VS Aisa where they make blatant copies. Hyundia is the latest to try to make a Benz copy. The Asians do not have much in the way of original auto design and when they do it looks like a box. It really should not matter where insperations for design comes from as long as it is good. Todays aero and industrial based designs at time border on the absurd. You should get excited and feel a good design inside not just see it. It should make you want it not just live with it. Better to marry the smart good looking practical girl vs the girl that is just practical in a Aztec way. The greatest design from America was Art Deco. The greatest thing they contributed in the auto field was the tail fin or rocket inspired design. No one did it better or bigger. Aero space design is a true American hallmark.
  4. Yes it is clay or fiberglass. Note no gas lid and the front bumper is different than the black one. They were testing out wheel designs and have V6 on one side and SS ont he other. Note this is the only one we have seen with not seen a scoop too. This is a very old picture from months back.
  5. Sorry if reality hits but most American designers have for years drawn upon Europe to inspire their designs. Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell were inspired by Europe and their designs. They took the ideas they saw and molded them into true original American classics. Styling and design are only a new concept to North America. We have only been at it for only 250 years.
  6. They anounced today that they will add 1400 jobs at Lordstown. Good news for the Youngstown area. I hope other plants note that the UAW has bee working with GM there as they know it is in their best interest.
  7. With all the cuts GM has anounced here is some good news. GM anounced Lordstown is moving up the start up time for the 3rd shift to August. Sales for the Cobalt are up 17% so they want to get more cars to the dealers sooner.
  8. I got to help unload two G6 GXP's I liked at work but I don't think they get very good milage. They also had great leg room in the front. They both weigh in 2350 pounds Brakes were 4 wheel disc with air assist. Carbon Fiber trimned interior and body. A functional rear wing. Functional hood scoope. 5 speed manual tranny. Shifter is very smooth. Manual rack and pionion steering. Full guages but no Speedo. It dose have a very large easy to read tach. No airbags but more safety systems than the present car. Will pass the Auto insurance offset test with flying colors. Two way radio. Video cameras inside and out. A very sticky set of Goodyear Eagles. No warranty. 500 cubic inch and around 3,000 HP or at least what some guess. Top speed 211 MPH. 1/4 mile in 6.553. We has both Greg Andersons and Jason Lines Prostock cars at work over the weekend. I was hanging out in the rig while we got a rain and got to help unload both cars and set them up for display. I work for a racing company but have never really been a Drag Race fan. But I was very impressed with the new Carbon Fiber race cars as they have helped move Prostock a little more into the present. To steal a line form Pontiac this is the first G6 [i would own]. Now if GM could see there way to making a Alpha G6 with RWD they might get my attention but untill then I have as much interest in this car as the last Sunfire or Aztec.... None. I will make it easy for them as I do not need a stinking V8 if they can keep the weght down. The 300 HP Turbo Eco would be fine if they can bring the car in around 3100 pounds.
  9. I think your right! I can see a company like BMW making an conserted effort to put the styling from the front of a mid 80's $12,000 V6 FWD sedan styling on a $70,000 car. Why did the rest of us miss something so clear? Delorean has always admired the German cars but the original concept for the Pontiac nose was not inspored by BMW. Like wise did BMW work to make their cars look like a Pontiac. It simply was just two car that just happened. But in the later yerars I would not be suprised if GM did make the cars like the Grand Am look a little more BMW like. The 55 Chevy egg crate grill and headlight styling was stolen from Ferrari at the Paris autoshow in the early 50's. Harley Earl stole many ideas from other cars and eveloped thme into his own creations at a much lower price.
  10. Nav systems are on the way out as better internet based systems will be available soon. It would be nice to see Pontiac get the system Cadillac will soon have. For my money I would rather see it spent on a HUD and just put a programable perfromance guage package in the dash like Chevy will do in 09 for the HHR SS and Cobalt SS. IF you add the HUD you could put the Nav in the HUD like the GP had. To me NAV systems are a waste of money and just takes more drivers eyes off the road and into my lane as I drive to work. This happens all to often.
  11. By Ed Peper GM Fast Blog North America Vice President, Chevrolet A few months ago, we showed you some official “spy shots” of the pre-production version of the new Camaro coupe. To say the least, response to that post was overwhelmingly enthusiastic – something that was extremely gratifying to all of us here at Chevrolet, who have been hard at work testing and retesting the Camaro development models. As a reward for your interest – and your patience – here’s a sneak peak of the convertible version of the Camaro, which is also undergoing a similar evaluation as we ready it for full production later next year. (Preproduction models shown. Actual production models may vary.) The prodution cars may differ due to this one having no badging. So I think this is about 95% it. Note the extra line on the front bumper beside the fog light.
  12. The problem is simple the Chevy we know here is not the same preception Chevy has in Europe. Chevy over there is now mostly just Cheap Daewoo cars like the sensable car used in the one lap by a celeberty on Top Gear. The Camaro is going to be like the Vette and not be a very cheap car in Europe. VW ran into trouble with this same image problem when they tried to sell there $80K+ large sedan here in the states and for the most people here see VW not as a car worth paying $80 K for. It was a very good car but if you were going to spend that much on a German car it would not be for a VW. In Europe VW is placed higher on the scale than what many in the states do as too many here still think of VW as a cheap affordable European imoport that they would pay $25 K for but in no way $80K for. The Vette is questioned here anymore just for costing so much vs the rest of the Chevy line. In Europe there line in weven more low end and mostr people over there are not as familiar with Chevy as we are except for the odd impoort they see that a service men have imported. I sell a lot of GM parts to people with Camaro's around the world andfor the most it is a Camaro not a Chevrolet. The same with the Vette as I just had a Arab who wanted to buy more stability for his Z06 He never said Chevy or Corvette Just Z06 like many others. From what I deal with on a daily day this is a none issue for us and only a way to help sell the Camaro at a higher price than the average Chevy in Europe. We have to understand that the Camaro name is not Baseball Apple Pie and Chevrolet to the. It is just plain Camaro or Z/28 and that is genrerally what is most important to the owners Chevy is just a secondary title. This is not one world as many of the wolrd other people see thing differently than we do.
  13. Not sure on the wheels as they look real in photos but on the web everything looks good. The first time I saw the original wheel covers on the Bumble Bee in person I was shocked how they did not look as good. Here is the best shot I have seen.
  14. We used to do this years ago. Back in the 80's I had a buddy with a Remote start van [rare in those days] with a remote side door. His brother used to convert custome van for wheelchair people. We would part it at Mc D's and watch as the side door would open people would look in. Then we would hit the start button. Man did we freak some poeple out. Vehicles just did not do that back then. They would run and get one of their buddies and by then we killed the engine and listen to them becalled a liar. As they would walk past the front we would turn the head lights on Christeen style and then they would start to freak again. We should have got this on Video it was funnny.
  15. I was thinking that too or Mako Shark III. I get a hunch this may be like the Stingray Concept they did a few years back that showed us the exposed head lights and afew other things that showed up in the C6. I think it is too soon and too radical for a C7.
  16. Don't know where they are going but they were in Washington near the Air and Space Museum. and in and around different Philly area locations this week.
  17. I am sure the Vette is more show than production. But I am sure it my have indicators of where they are headed.
  18. We have seen the beat on set now it is the Corvette XR1? and a updated Bumble Bee Z/28?. I know the Camaro is one of the two GTO based cars but it has been updated in several areas. The hood and front splitter look to be possible Z/28 parts as the hood would give added clearance for a supercharger and the spitter would give more front down force for the car like on the ZR-1. Also the wheels were used on the Convertable prototype at one point. Also note the black sections on the bumpers that could have the brake cooling and fog lights. Note the headlights look more like the production car as we expect them. Also the Vette XR1 is one I have not see or heard of. It may be a concept car for the C7? It has sicsor doors and the basic lay out of a Vette but a little more radically styled. Could this be a exageratted direction of where GM is going?
  19. I will tak ethe black C pillar before the Cheap chrome fake fender Vent like the Focus. The new Caddy XLR has one and it makes it look Cheap.
  20. It is onthe fast track as The Aussie gov will buy a lot of cars from any MFG that will build them in the country. Toyota may move a Cmary Hybrid line to do it if Holden is late.
  21. Get over it!! For Gods sake it just a movie! For what it is worth Jazz was killed in the last movie and the original series according to my kid. From what I heard they were considering bringing Jazz back for the second movie. They are already bringing Optimus back and he did not return for the second round of the series. Who know GM has a new Solstice Coupe he may just return improved. Besides I am sure there will be a fair shot a G8 will show up somewhere. This is a full length marketing tool anyway?
  22. They did take the GTO Camaro's to do the movie. They used them on the show circuit till about March or April and then they were going to California for filming. Settlmire said they cleaned them and detailed them up to do more movie work. I think they wanted to keep with the same car and why paint up some other car when you have these available. Plus when the filming started the Mules were far from done. I am betting the wheel is a Z/28 unit or a SPO wheel. It looks polished and has a split spoke like a Z06?
  23. The Camaro is frim for Febuary and Transformers is not due till June July. Anyone notice the rear wheel on the Bumble Bee? It is a new wheel. Could this be the large Z/28 wheels we heard possible?
  24. The first part of your statment is true for the first six months but this will be a must be seen in car for many. They styling is like a fashion statement compared to many of the ugly boxes out there right now. The V6 Convertible will be very popular with women in their 20's-40's. the bottom line is the appeal of this car is going to be much wider than the 4th gen. That will make a differance. Thank God they did the V6 package right in a time it will even be more important than before.
  25. I had a G8 ST on my list but I need more than two seats as we already have one two seater in a family of three. Besides I may still replace the wife GP with a G8 Sedan later. I also had a Camaro V6 on my list as I knew about the 300+ V6 for a long time now. I don't need 425 HP for a daily driver. But I refuse to pay the added cost till sales die down 6 month to a year after intro. A few weeks ago I drovew a HHR SS just for giggles and came away very impresses. It rode very well and was very tossable and fun to drive. They have improved the interior with the two tone sort interior so it does not look so drab. To top it off it hauls thing like the Sonoma I am replacing. WIth gas going up the mileage will be an improvement over my present truck. I may opt for the HHR SS for my daily beater and get the wife the Camaro late vs the G8 since we do not have to deal with car seats anymore. I showed her the size the Camaro will be and shew was shocked as it is smaller than she thought. From the photo's many people think it is as big as the Challanger. I expect the Camaro to have 2 very strong years even with the price of gas. Keep in mind to many this is not the main vehicle and will be a third car to most. The week end play toy. Also many will be purchased and stored away for speculation. GM has a lot of color changes and feature changes planned to keep this car fresh. They have not even tipped thier hand at all that is planned. They expected this to be a tough car to sell as Coupes are hard to move and for such a small clupe market there are now many choices. Compared to the trucks , SUV's and past Camaro's the V6 will feel like a economy car to many.
