  1. 2010 is the end for the HHR SS and I think the Cobalt SS. But they were not going to live past 2010 or 11 anyway They both will be gone during the 2010 model year. The fact is Before last falls money crunch there were no new SS anounced in the works. They made it clear the Cruze was not going SS. Other than the Camaro I know of no other Chevy being an SS in the near future. I think Chevy was more worried about getting a new Before it becomes old out dated car like the Impala. And Chevy also knows it is behind on the Impala change with the many changes to it's plan due to goverment regs changing. Chevy needs to get its basic car line up updated and fixed to where they are all great cars for the money. Then once everything is updated they can play again.
  2. I love the Pratt and Miller team and cars. I never miss a chance to see them. But to be honest the last couple years were a total waste of money the majority of the time. First off few people watch this kind of racing or are even aware of it. Second racing the team car was just flat dumb. I will like the GT2 car as they will be fighting other companies and models that will really mean something. Road Racing is my favorite racing but the economic are piss poor for it to promote much. Even in the IMSA hey days MFG's pumped millions in and saw very little come back. I miss the old days of IMSA that was fun and something ALMS has tried to copy but never will.
  3. Outside the Cruze we have... A C7 in the works New Nox New Camaro drop top New Bu New Orlando New Impala New Caprice? I am holding my breath New Spark New Aveo New Cruze New Volt in at least 1-2 gen All are due in 5 years or less. I left out the Trucks and SUV too. We need to accpet the fact GM is trying to sell cars to people who drive all kinds of vehicles so there will be many here you will have no interest in. The simple fact is GM needs to sell cars to more than just fan boys on the GM web site. Also we will get some performance cars and option along the way. Just don't expect them to be the primary promoted cars. The GMPD guys are now doing the work developing these and not just tuning what they are given. There is more here than we know so hang tight before anyone slits a wrist. I suspect we will see the Z 28 in due time. Now is not the time to anounce it. the work is done and paid for so why not recover the cost after the spot light is off GM and the goverment loans. Lets see we lost performance how many times and we would never have fun cars again? Now we have the best cars we ever had for performance. The bottom line is sex and speed sells. I also find that our memories of girls in high school were well over rated. I find as they get older they get better skilled.
  4. I thought they changed it to Goverment Motors a few weeks ago?
  5. I believe that if possible we may see the Zeta reworked into a smaller car. Alpha? The basic car is there and if they can rework the car as it was once claimed in wheel base and width this could be what they may do. It would save money and time. I am not calling for the death of Zeta but for it to be transformed into the Alpha as a smaller lighter car. I want to see an affodable RWD car in 2026 and to do so Zeta has to change or be replaced. Sharing parts with Sigma would also be cost effective but I am not sure where GM wants to go with this plaform. The issue today is too much weight in almost any car not just GM. They can cut weight fast with new metals [boron etc] but it also increases cost fast. GM may be able to deal with the price after they get the labor cost of building a car down.
  6. The one I still want to buy today is a 61 Cat bubble top with a 4 speed tri power and 8 lug wheels. I have had several friends that either had one or still own one.
  7. I also agree that the base cars have to go. Buick can have a based car but it needs to have some standards like Alloy wheels. As for Leather I am ok with a cloth option as not everyone like leather. I would like to see a upgraded cloth interior. The Lucerne for all they sell will not help or hurt here. It is out dated but still not a horrible car. If I agree it will provide good contrast on where GM is going till the next model. Buick needs and will get new models but I do not want to see any more investment in a Zeta for all the longer it will be here. I would rather see them do a RWD on a platform they can build on for years to come and meet goverment standards. Alpha or new Sigma would be a good place to start to build a new long lasting division leading car. As for the AWD I bet is will not even make up 25% of sales so the engine will not hurt or help much.
  8. That is odd but the norm for GM. The CTS AWD is on the V6 but not an option on the V car. Could the power of the two V6 engines as small as it is be enough to be a problem with the AWD?

  11. Anyone see the 2.0 turbo is headed to this car. I wonder how it will be with the 6 Speed auto. I wonder if they will bring in a 6 speed man? It should make for some smooth power.
  12. Like NASCAR or not there are 80 million weekly viewers that come cheap per dollar spent. The money GM has spent on ALMS and The Daytona series has been more fun for me to watch but much more less effective marketing. My favorite team is the Pratt and Miller Vettes and I can't wait till they come back in the new class to race other teams. But I will be the first to say the last two years were a waste of money. Also if you really know what is going on NASCAR is a lot more advanced than you think in many areas. It is ignorent to say other wise. It is amazing to see some of the tricks they come up with to make a basic car faster than the other guys. The teams do not have a fleet of engineers in the pits just to tune a carb.
  13. It is a taller Camry wagon. Accept for the nose it does not look bad for what it is but is not as affordable like the Nox will be. I drove one and it is ok and should do well. It is like a cross between a Minivan and a wagon. Sort of a Anti minivan in a way.
  14. I expect them and a 3.6 DI in the Bu soon. I love my DI engine. The only problem was the ticking at start up of the high pressure pump. I had the TSB done where they are now installing a foam rubber cover to quite the pumps. it worked.
  15. From the way this reads it sounds like it is better than the BU as it should be 2 years later. They have more sound control, DI engines and it said the interior was even better than the already good BU. As for the Venza it will have appeal to the the Toyota/import fans. But more and more the name of the game is price. If Chevy can keep this well quipted and good quality they will find the converts in this ever tighting economy. This vehicle is a page out of the old Chevy book that Hyundia has been playing for the last 5 years. More for the money is key in the next few years and this SUV will play right in their hands. Also Chevy now will do the marketing like GM has needed to for years. They now can promote and market most of their cars properly vs at the intro only to be forgotten the second year. With only a few divisions whats left can be better attended too. I was never a fan of the old Nox and after I got in one of these I was convince how good this was. THen when I got into a old one two weeks ago it hit me how bad the old one really was. THis one reminded me of a small Arcadia.
  16. An informed writer would have known GM has already made a start on this and also has many new well designed cars in the pipeline just waiting for release. An informed writer would know GM is already 5 years into the awaking but with the money has had to delay the new cars. Once our of bankruptcy he would know that there is an on slot of new GM vehicles that will attack the market with styling far above most on the market. He would know about the new CTS wagon and coupe. He would be well aware of the new Nox, Volt, Cruze, Spark and Orlando. He would be praising the new Lecrosse and Regal [saturn Insigna] or what ever they call it. He would be saying how GM is transforming all these cars in a short time with more still coming not even anounced like the new Caddy Electric and the Alpha program. But if he was informed on this topic enough to properly write about this we would not have to point out his story is about 8 years too late as they already had the come to Jesus monent and with Ed and the boys at Design are well ahead of his opionion. At this point he should be pointing out even under dire times GM under Lutz and Welburn have give GM present new models and the next 5 years of cars a major jump on the compitition. But as like most GM haters they tell the story their own twisted way. There many who are aginst GM making it and will not stop. I am not fully convinced even those in Goverment have GM's welfair at heart. They ail them out but slap them right back with Eco laws that will cost them more money at a time they can not afford it. They buy goverment fleets with more Ofrd products than GM and Chrysler. I would think an even split would be better. Either way the point is no matter what GM does there will be someone there to cast a poor out look. Lets face it if GM could make a car 100 times better than a Civic, price it less than a Hyundia and make it get 150 MPG only to have smeone say it is too little too late. Lets face it even the comedian turned Activist hack Letterman attacked the Volt till confronted by Lutz.
  17. Point is the writer make his points based on out going cars and bashes GM for it while the present updated cars and incoming replacments are not brought into to play. It is just an hack writer who again did like others did not do his home work and really address what is going on. News and blogs in this country have agendas anymore and do not let all the facts get in the way anymore. Here is a prime case.
  18. The far right has Rush but the far left has theirs too with the Huffington Post. A writer Gerald Sindell trashes GM styling in a story he wrote on the far left post an open letter to new GM CEO Fritz Henderson suggesting that a new design direction should be Job 1 for the reinvention of GM, Welburn felt compelled to respond. As you might imagine, the response is a rather passionate one. Check out the story on Autoblog.com. There are leads to the original story and reply. It's as if everyone is doing the look at me thing on the hot topic of GM. I am waiting for GM to turn a profit in 2 years and the Far Left will say we did it all and the Far Right will say will our tax money how could you fail. I am proud of Ed for his defense to this uninformed idiot and only wish he would have taken the gloves off. I know that is something he can not do from a PR stand point but how much of this crap will the good guys at GM have to take. Ed has done more to advance GM styling since the 60's. GM as far as I am concermend is the leader in styling. But styling alone will not sell car and bring repeat buyers. Once they get the quyality thing down and reliability on all the models they will have it made. They are closing in and they have only a few more old models to replace and the transformation will be completed. For sure Honda and Toyota have not been any leader in styling. Nissans Cube proved Styling alone is not what sells cars.
  19. That is just foolish. People know what a Cobalt is with so many sold they are not rare are uncommon. There is negitive baggage with the Cobalt not as much as the Cavalier but bagage. The Cobalt was the game changer and was marketed to death at the new American car to slay the Civic. Well it fell short. If they feel so strong about the Cobalt name they would not buy a Cuze they are not fit to drive a car since they have a lose nut behind the wheel. To day is a new material world. Everyone wants the newest and most up to date thing. Today in marketing unless it is a home run or retro the names are throw aways anymore. Today people are more interested in entertainment options than safety as per the survey out today. The love affair with the car is failing fast and the drama and insperation names once brought work less and less. Names mean more in enthutsiast circles but to the average driver they are more worried about price, reliability and if their I pod is intergrated. Just look around and see what crappy styling and names are selling today. I can sum it up the way of todays market in one word Cube!
  20. Or we can talk some rich relitive to buy Pontiac for us and when they lose all their money we ask the goverment for a bail out and sell the prototype on e bay like the 1999 Packard they are selling presently. Or sell coke to goverment agents oh never mind it has been tried. That is wha is wrong with this place it is all Pontiac but no one cares about Packard! There is a big market for Packard out there I just know it but no one has the go nads to try. Better yet Dusenberg. It has failed how many times and no one is willing to try again I wonder why?
  21. There in lies the problem. First thing that comes no a non GM buyer about Cobalt or Cavalier is cheap rental car I had at the airport. Or Cheap interior. GM can stop changing names when they do not conjer up memories of piss poor cars that remind people why they bought an import in the first place. If GM has a car with a positive image to a non GM buyer they keep it but over the years too few names have positive recognition with non GM loving people. If the Cruze is as good as it needs to be we will have this name for as long time. If not we will need a new name. GM killed names by putting Nova on a Toyota, Lemans on a Daewoo and Bonneville on an out dated poor quality A body. GM starts making more cars like the new Malibu and CTS they will not have to do the name dance. Till then the less the remind people of the car they has rust out on them, paint fall off or engine tha let go the the better.
  22. It is all in the concept. The Volt presents a system that will be much more lifestyle freindly No need to change your driving habits to gain an advantage. We have yet to see a tenth of what the Volt will grow into as the technolgy becomes avaiable. They will be able to reflash and upgrade these cars with updates and battery technology is on the edge of exploding. No pun intended! The Pruis is at the near limit of where can go. Not to mention Toyota knows GM has a better system but is invest so much in their present technology they have been on a PR campain against the Volt from the start. This is a race that will not be won on the first lap. As with any new technology there is a growth period and then it reaches the affordable period. Look at big screen TV's Projection screen was first but look at what we have now. The Key here is GM to sell the system and keep advancing it to make it more affordable and more efficent. GM seems to be already doing this and n ot just expecting to let the first gen rot on the vine.

  24. Marketing pure and simple. IF you have a well respected long running name you claim the product as new and imporved. If you have a name that is not all that olded or has a solid rep you rename the product to show it is all new and better than last peoduct. It also is to remove any negitive precieved images by the public towards the new car. This is the first thing they teach you in your first marketing class. The Cobalt was not a bad name but it also had little steller rep. The bottom line is a new name get the attention of the not so bright public.
  25. Please you be fair. The car in generator mode will run on the same electric motors the car runs on in battery mode. You will have a engine that runs at a constant RPM to provide the electric that should be as much or more than in battery mode. GM's point is how the car drives in electric mode as the engine generator mode is a non factor. The Prius is hard to keep in electric mode and often youre driving style has to adapt to it where the Volts system will work with your present driving style. The key here as stated before this is not about the Volt vs Prius or Insight. This about selling a new way to drive that will advance with the second and third gens of this system. The Pruis and Insight systems have a limited growth to them but with the Volts system the afvancements of batteries is on the fast track and GM has a drive system already that drives like a normal car. The Prius is a car for the moment but the Volts system is one that will be better system in 5 years as it has more room for growth. In a few years the Prius will be to the Volts system like the Malub Hybrid is now to the Prius today.
