  1. 9C3 undercover package. Hmmm? How does one one make a RWD Chevy from OZ not stand out in Cleveland Ohio? Are they going to graft a G8 nose on it so it looks like it belongs? LOL!!
  2. I was waiting to see if this was going to get posted but I felt we needed to let Camino know so he can figure a way to order one. Autoblog is reporting that Automotive News story is claiming GM will show a Chevy Zeta Police car at the Chief of Police Convention in Colorado Monday. You can find the story here http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/02/report-...nveiled-monday/ Looks like GM is just now getting around to getting Ideas and plans approved?
  3. No I have not seen that one. I did get a detail recount of the naming from Schinella not long ago. He stuck to the tough meeting where they had a list of names and his claim to the book He is a great guy but With the use of it before at Pontiac in 1969 it makes me think he is just sticking to the offical story. I have seen them the back of the cars to test how they looked. One was Fiamma? I am not sure why they dropped the Pegasus name but it had to have been a good reason It was late in the game and they even had the emblem made up. It was too late to change it too. I do believe they did ask the line workers to vote on names at one point but they never did get last call. I would have to dig up my info on this as it has been a long time since I read any info on this.
  4. It is crazy how the Wrangler 4 door is selling. Most of the traditional Off Road Jeep jeep people [The ones who really get dirty] hate them. They think they are too big for trails. They also like the small ones but not as much in some ways as the older Jeep. They buy the new Wranglers but feel they are just too car like.
  5. They have trashed some really good names for petty reasons. They look at it as if it will offend someone. Today it would not but in the 60's I could see people trying to put a satanic twist to it. Like wehn they named the Fiero at the last min when for some unknown reason they killed Peguses they worked from a list of names that were controled by GM. Schinilla still to this day claims he found the name in a book and stood for Proud in Itallian. But how did it get used on a Firebird concept car in the late 60's that was a FIrebird aERO concept also called Fiero. I always loved Chryslers Corinthian Leather. There is no such leather but it sounded good when Ricardo Montalbon said it. That is just good marketing.
  6. If to go that way I would look at other Greek and Roman god names. Zeus, Boreas, Pomona, Artemis, Amor, Aquilo, Ares, Maia You get the idea. There are a lot of names but it may be difficult to find names that no one has used or the rights tied up etc. So many Greek and Roman names are used not only in the car industry but in all industries and banking. Janus, Triton, Saturn and Mercury just to name a few. The easiest for most automakers anymore is to make up words. This way they can claim them easier and not have to worry about a real meaning that may not go with the image they want to project. This is what killed Banshee for years. Pontiac loved the name but GM hated the meaning.
  7. The Eco turbo will turn 13 second in a car around 3200 pounds. While I love this engine the present car needs to be at least 3400 before I would think many would like it. Also the stigma of the 4 cylinder would have to be overcome since the Camaro looks so big and the engine is so small. It may be easier once they make a dent with the present V6. It just may need to be taken in steps for acceptance. The key for the Volt is to make it like a normal car that isn't normal and that is what GM is doing. The Volt is going to be a car that will handle and ride like a car that is fun to drive. Something you would look forward to driving. While it may not be a CTSV it will by no means be a Glorified golf cart like so many before it. Has anyone noitice GM has not really said much of late on future engines. You know they have a lot of things planned but have not said much. I hope they can get things moving to counter the Ford Ecoboost Marketing. GM has had the DI and Turbo longer than Ford but so many do no even know they offer it. The future cars will still be fun to drive and give great performance it will just come in different packages than we are used too.
  8. Great points Cmicasa ! I too like the HX concept but if GMC were to pick it up at this point they would have to lose the Hummer front clip. For some reason even with the H2 and H3 being based on the Tahoe and Trailblazer people still think they are the same beast as the H1. I would still like to see the H4 concpet move forward as a GMC to go against Jeep. Using the Alpha and a Ecotec they could make a GMC that is more Jeep than Jeep is today. As for dealers I spoke to some friends that work for Saturn today. They expect their dealers to be absorbed by their parent company that owns many dealers. They may become a Kia or the like dealer for the same owner. Also parts and repairs will be handed over to the other GM dealers and should not be an issue to get parts or service. Sad to say not all dealers are owned by a larger chain so some will not have anything to fall back on or anywhere to go.
  9. After driving this I was impressed. I wanted to drive the 4 since many raved of it. I would have like a little more power but it should suit most drivers. The only place noticed the lack of power was on the freeway on ramp and in passing. It was not bad but I wished it just has about 25 HP more. You can rev it out hard and it will get the job done. If I were to buy one today it would be the V6. Now if they offered a Eco Turbo it would make for an interesting combo with the 6 sp tranny. Ride was sold and very car like. Noise was only a factor on WOT and it was not a major issue. Steering felt twitchy to me but I am used to heavier steering on the daily driver. A few more miles and I would have adapted well. I liked the digital speedo in the dash It was like a poor mans HUD. It was easy to see and on a sunny day easy to veiw. The HAVC will be easy to use once you know where to look. I was driving and had to find the Auto Air but that is just something you would learn on the first day once you owned it. Speaking to my local dealer he has been getting a lot of sales on these and if he could get more they would sell as soon as they came in. Right now he said this one is hotter for him than the already hot Camaro. I hope to drive the V6 soon and will post what I find. I figure it will just be a little less peppy as the Malibu due to the smaller engine and more weight. But this is not a race car so it sould do fine.
  10. After looking at you list I think I have changed my mind on the old names accept for Apollo. It just reeks of a rusty looking Nova to me. Plus the space program has moved on. How about using the new space crafts name Orion ore Aries? I think what change my mind is the new names you have listed just don't flow well or create much image. Buick is just a tough car to name.
  11. No you already did that earlier today.
  12. I see the next Camaro as smaller, lighter and targeted at a little younger group. They will keep some heritage but I expect the car to break new ground in electronic features and drivetrains. In dash hard drives, internet and video screens will play to the young while power and performancw plays to the older crowd. The price and electronics are the key to the youth market. That is something I wish they had made an option on this car. This would have sold more V6 cars alone.
  13. Well if the Vette is getting DI in 2011-12 I would not see why the Camaro would not get the same. I expect the trucks too.
  14. That wa smy thought. I wonder how the slow auto market may have played into this. Cars sales are down to the point even the top sellers like Toyota are hurting. Even for Roger Penske it would have been difficult to bring Saturn back from the dead in this market. At this point I not sure how soon it will recover. I still think one of the makers from China may have an interest in going to the owners of the Saturn dealers and setting up shop in their stores. It is a ready made dealer network with nice stores and a trained staff. I always wondered where Roger would get his non GM cars. Nothing ever looked solid in the deals we were told about.
  15. It will be around 2011 or 12 for DI to show up on the V8. More Power yet for the SS.
  16. Buick is not wanting to go with old names as they just do not fit these cars. Also we do not need a new Skyhawk. The other issue is that names in this day and age are getting more difficult to get. So many are owned by some corp already or have some have some odd meaning. We have already seen the one that was slang for a sex act in French become a problem for Buick. Coming up with names in not s short or easy task. I am no fan of these names but I can understand why we are getting some lame ones anymore. In fact just look at how many have no real meaning and are just made up words.
  17. My guess is at least high $40's for this car. Then add the dealer mark up most will be closer to $60K loaded. They are not going make a lot of these unless they change their minds.
  18. That is my thought. Nothing is done till it is anounce by GM. They bit too many times on the G8 anouncments?
  19. Not sure on the final power but in the past it was said they would make it faster than the top Mustang. At that time it was not where it is today. But I suspect the goal will not be to play second to the Shelby. As long as there is a ZR-1 they can go for it. The ZR-1 keep the Vette at the top. The ZR-1 is not done either. They made more power in development so I suspect an increase in the future before they end the ZR-1 and C6. Al Oppenheiser at one point also wanted to make the Z lighter and more stripped down. but I don't see the marketing people letting them do that. Options are where the money is. Here is his quote from the Oct 09 Super Chevy. The first Z/28 was built just to get us into the racing circuit against the Mustang and all the other cars that were in that class. If you were going to take a Z/28 approach, you'd try to stay true to the RPO, build a car that you could drive daily on the street, take to the drag strip and do well, or take to the track and do well, which the original Z/28 did. Take some things out of it, get the mass down, use an existing small-block, maybe an ls7, an ls9. Make it a great performing car for the purist.
  20. It was made clear from the start that they did not care what GM built as long as they turned a profit. Obama needs GM to make a profit after all the bail out money. As for this car it will make a profit but more for the dealer than GM. This will be a low volume car and will make GM some money but the dealer will mark this one up well over sticker. These cars do not hurt GM but they do not add a lot either. They are more valuable as a marketing tool to sell more Camaro SS and V6 cars. It is no different than the ZR-1.
  21. Hmmm! I wonder where a SLP Z/28 would go if the SS is already their. I think the SS they had was somthing like 575 HP. We also had two Nickey Camaro's at work. They were pushing big power out of a 427.
  22. Have you seen the SLP filler for the mail slot? It helps. Ed Hamburger was at work with a SS with his new parts on it. He also had a SS emblem that replace the bow tie in the grill. It even fills in the missing grill section.
  23. Sometimes Jason will not go overboard if he knows more than he can say. He may just be waiting for the GM release. Scott usually gives him what he needs to post. I know it was around the 21st I first saw this posted and have been waiting to see something from GM to back it up.
  24. From what I was told months ago before it was shelved this is what they were looking at. It was not going to be a radical departure from the SS but it would be different in some ways.
