  1. Seeing this car will not be out soon I would not be suprised if it has the 2nd gen Volt in it. They are already working on the 2nd and 3rd gens at present and the 1st will not be around very long. If anything there will be marked improvments in technology over the next couple year before we see this car that would be incorperated. It would be smart to bring the new stuff out in the more expensive car and then add it to the Chevy later vs bringing it out in the Chevy and then giving it to Cadillac. Also note this more than not may move to a 4 door vs 2. Lutz said they could change this very easily to a sedan if it went into production.
  2. Ands there is some gentleman named Wu Flung Dung in Shanghi saying "Skylark is such a Dumb Name thank God they used Yinglang" Names are only as good as where the car is sold. The Datsun Fairlady was not a killer name here but loved in Japan.
  3. I suspect from what I saw at SEMA this year we will get a new nose and upgrade to the interior for 2011.
  4. The Father Inlaw just picked up his 09 Silverodo LT today. He got one heck of a deal. The truck was stickered at $31,000 and he got her out the door at just over $17,000 including the trade in of his 100,000 plus mile 2001 Silverodo. It is extended cab and has most of the goodies. He got the 5.3 liter and it is two wheel drive. I have yet to see it but should get to drive it soon. If it holds up as well as his last truck it should be great. The 2001 has been beaten well but does not have a rattle, creak or rust. It still runs hard and will chirp second gear with the automatic. He only had to replace brakes, tires and a wheel bearing. I am glad to see you like it. I figure he will be very happy with his. Note he owned nothing but Ford till the 2001 Chevy.
  5. I was wondering when this news was going to hit. I figured they would anounce this once they were comfortable with where the Volt development was in relation to being ready for production and meeting its goals. Besides Lexus has one now too. In the past Lutz stated they coulc juice up the motors to make this faster. They could go RWD and it will carry nothing but premium interior styling and options. I would not hold my breath for AWD as it would only drain the batteries twice as fast. The stronger facter electric motors will use less energy and still give you similar range. I also heard if they used bigger electric motors the gas engine would also have a little more power. Hmmm 2.0 Turbo vs the 1.4 Turbo? I would also expect handling and ride that is not expected with a Electric car. We already know the Guys from the GMPD are working on the Volt for a more sports sedan like handling vs Prius handling. I imagine the Caddy will take it to the next level. How bout a Converj V? LOL! With the torque we could get the 0-60 times could be blinding.
  6. I saw a Mocha Steel Metalic on a LTZ Nox a lttle while ago. It really look like a very expensive vehicle. I am more a Red, Blue or Black fan but the MSM really does look goo with the right trim. I think the light chrome trim set it off.
  7. I too hated this when it came out and it has started to grow on me. I have yet to see any other than Black on the roads yet so I hope other colors may help with it in person. I just do not like the nose and the rear. Mors so the nose. the pick up truck like nose is just too blunt and the chome band is just too thick. I always liked the GMC truck better in the past because they often used chome a little better than Chevy. More is not always better. The front and rear need to cut down on the chrome a little. The other styling issue is it looks too much like a smaller Saturn Outlook. It makes me feel like they rebadged a Saturn as a GMC when they decided to pull the Saturn plug. As for the Element, Cube and Scion box stying I never did warm to it. I guess I am not old enought ot understand.
  8. We are looking to the Nox or Lamda for our next vehicle. I was wanting to know how well the 3.6 DI improved things. I would love to have this engine in what ever we buy. I have some seat time in the GMC but none of the others. I have noted in most new Chevys how quiet they are. The I have driven the new Bu, Nox and Camaro and all were as quiet as I have ever seen from Chevy. I know Lutz has pushed details GM has missed like body gaps and trim but Noise was one area I have heard him speak about in the past and wanted to see improvments. The new Bu make my 04 GTP sound like a box of rocks even on a not so ruff road. As for names I I wonder how many people do not take the new Lacrosse seriously becuse they associate the name with the old car. I know Some names carry weight but often when cars improve as much as GM has they need a new name to convince the people who left GM they have really changed. The name recognition is seldom positiive with many current GM names that are more than 5 years old. I would rather see some older names many have no preconceived notion about. A new Cadillac Lamda Fleetwood would be nice?
  9. Two small Turbo are just the best way to go to prevent lag and other issues while feeding a V6 or a V8. Yes it cost more but not like it used too. Who ever though we would see a 400 HP Turbo Taurus at $40,000. I just see the future of the Camaro in a Alpha with a Turbo 6. Foird also is looking to do a Eco 6 Turbo for the stang. Unless it is 400 HP it will just not fly.
  10. Well I see GM has called off the Opel Sale around PM tonight. If true very good call! Opel still has work to do on their Volt version too.
  11. Saw that posted today by GM. I just get the feeling we will see a V6 Tubo soon slotted in just under the V8 in the next year or so. Note GM said 425 HP with little MPG penalty. I think they are laying the ground work.
  12. This is the Z/28 less the hood as discribed to me by some one last spring who has seen one. The best example is I was told look to the Trasformer 2 Bumble Bee and change the wheels. You then would pretty much have the 98% Z/28. The front bumper on the Movie car was the Z. As for this car I could not see or have read about the engine. The Twin Turbo make sense for the hood and will make more sense for the future. I expect we will see this kind of an engine in the future at some point.
  13. His next complaint will be too much power in the Z28. Any catch the new Z over at Autoblog? They are hiding the new Z in public at the SEMA show. It all look as discribed to me last spring. The only detail I am not sure of is the [vents?] in the hood. The wheels and nose are correct from what I was told to expect. Not sure on the engine HP but I would expect it to be the same as the CTS V or under rated just for show.
  14. I can not comment on the crash teszt but here in the rust belt it is rare to see a really old Honda or Toyota but still common to see a Chevy Beretta or very square body Cavalier. It is still not odd to see a Chevette yet. Most of the Honda's and Toyotas of the same years have either rusted away or have gotten to a point where they are no longer cheap or easy to repair. It is like many found out with the Vega. It may have rusted out and used oil but it would always start and run. Keep oil in it and it would run forever. I don't see this this trend ending here as my Buddy is in a part department of a Mitu/Hyundia dealer. Some people come in for repair in the service department only to leave when they find the cost too high for the value of some car. When you start to add up the cost of some of the Turbo's AWD and other items it gets $$$$. He laughs at kids with Evo's who come in to buy parts. They had one with the big Brembo package on his and he wanted rotors and pads to do it himself. The parts alone were $2400. He also noted once all the electrics go they often tow the car out and often it is junked as not only will the owner not fix it the dealer wants no part of a trade with these and cars in need of mechanical work. They will not even want to send them to auction. THe one thing that has helped GM over the years is the use of the same parts on many cars. It helps keep the parts avaiable and easy to find. Interchangeablility is key for the salvage yards. Many imports not only will parts from more than one year not work but even in the same year. I see cars like Hondas in some years use crazy things like 3-4 different ignition system in one year. Then add in the imported cars and they use different parts too even with the car looking the same. When you ask the owner for the engine code you get a long pause and then "I Don't Know".
  15. It is not a turd but it is good for the price you pay. You can't expect a Cayenne Turbo for the price of an HHR SS. The Cobalt and HHR SS tuning is what makes them special. Other than the CTSV and up level Vettes I have never seen GM get the tune right on the suspension like they did with these. They are good enough to make FWD something you don't hate. Too often in the past GM always throws on big tires, springs and shocks only to perform well on pool table flat roads. I know I own two of these now. The GMPD guys leave out a little ultimate grip to offer better real world driving. The Shocks and struts on my SS are not rock hard but a sturdy but absorbing Sachs units. When they sent out the OE tuners at GMPD and spread them around GM I was one of the few that understood that this was a good thing for GM. Think of it as a little GMPD in all their cars not just a handful. All I can say is if you have not driven a LNF you have no idea what GM can really do with a small engine.
  16. I never claimed the HHR as a great sports car. My praise is for the engine package and the GMPD tuning. The rest is a affordable fun to drive family wagon that is properly tuned for once. Since I own the Comp G GTP too I feel I should have a an idea what both can do. The GTP lacks the tuning. I am sure you have a lot of seat time behind the wheel of a Eco Turbo. Hmm just as I thought....you need to go for a drive. In a better car like the coming Regal it may be able to claim the great sports sedan title. If you do go for the drive look for one with the GM tune. The Comp GTP is poorly tuned by todays standards and shows it age by todays standards. The engine/tranny package is 1980's old. I do have to say I wish GM had used the Bosch Braking system the Comp has on more cars. Even under heavy use the pads wore well into the 60,000 mile range. The reality is the GTP and HHR are just family cars even in two doors. To say anything more will lose creditbility. No matter what you want to call it the SS is more enjoyable drive than the GTP. If only the Turbo has a six speed. Mmmm We might see that in the Regal? The bottom line is John H and the GMPD team tuned the HHR turd into a very enjoyable car to drive. That is the long and short of it. Given something better to work with like the CTS they really shine.
  17. That has not changed the resale. Also see me when the the Cobalts they are now building flood the dealers. They are in short supply right now since the clunker deal and Lordstown being shut down for 2 months. Not too many deals on cars that are not on the lot. The transaction prices on the new cars like the Nox and other I expect to be retained since they are new. But again they are also in short supply and few discounts apply. I just hope GM controls the inventory to the point they can keep the value in the cars.
  18. As a GTP Comp G owner I can say it is nothinh but a family car anymore. Todays cars leave the 3800 SC as a also ran. John H rules!! Been to some of his races and he is amazing. Just watch some of his runs at the ring in anything from a CTSV to an HHR SS. His Cobalt SS run is very cool. I love it when it gets quiet and he is getting air. That is true a very good car will make anyone fast. Lutz may be a above average driver but he is not a racer. I think that speak volumes for the CTSV.
  19. Guys this was showmanship and marketing at it's best. Now GM needs to get some 30 min segments on Speed Channel and show this a couple of weekends this winter when Speed has no racing programing. I hate Pinks but it would be cool to see Bob show up on there with a ZR1 or Camaro. This "It Ain't Bragging If You Can Back" it Up stuff is good for image building. You just keep it fair, accurate and creditable few can honestly deny it. Cadillac needs Fox News new tag line for this run off. Fair, Honest and Unaffraid. While there may be a couple cars that could out run this car in this class none can do it even close to this price.
  20. I expect them to push combined and city. But the main focus will be the 40 miles all electric. The interview I read said that the car on gas will just not have as much power as it will under electric. THey quoted HP ratings and it was down. Also the RPM would be rather high to keep the electric flowing in high demand. But this was a few months ago and recent work may have addressed this. The high RPM's were an issue because of noise. They figures with the car quiet under electric mode then under gas generated power it would be of some concern. It will be interesting if GM tells how they deal with many of the issue this car has that normal cars don't we only get snips of what issue they have had to deal with. I remember the first one I read about was old gas in the tank. They said at one point they needed to address the gas in the cars that were only driven to work and home on electric and seldom used the gas. The fuel has a shelf life and could degrade in some cases. I noted on cold start it will fire the engine up so I expect it may hace some kind of engine cycle system. I know our Home Generator cycles once a week for 15 min just to keep running and ready.
  21. It is nice to sell in great numbers but when you have a dated car that has been getting large discounts and has poor resale value you still have work to do. GM needs this car to come out trouble free with great reviews and sell with few if any major rebates. If it becomes a true demand car because it is a damn good car then resales will increase. As it is now many people buy it just because it is a ok car and they can afford the monthly payments. In other words they settled only for what they could afford not what they wanted. I hope to see this change with this car. As for the name this is a take it or leave it class of cars. The names Cavalier and Cobalt do not present images like the names Camaro or Corvette does. If anything it reminds many of the rusted out Cavalier they had in Collage. I checked around and word is they are holding up for quality issues to be all addressed at the plant. I am not sure how much of this is true but that is what I was told. There were no major issues but they want a zero error quality new car to come out. The last thing GM wants is it to come out like the Camaro and have a rubbed through battery cable or other small issue that will make some say it is the same old GM. Besides the car will not be late it is a 2011 anyway and will just not have a early intro. I wish GM and the others would just intro the cars in Sept like they used to years ago.
  22. I was at Lordstown a while back and the Cobalt and Cruze will be built on two different lines. I was told they will redo the body shop to do the trim and body then sent the car into the main assembly building to be completed throught the bridge. Seem like GM will have the Cobalt production will be closed down about a year after the Cruze is on line. They have just stepped up production on the Cobalt recently and this anouncmentmakes sense of this. Once the Cobalt is done they will have a entire line to add another car to the plant. The UAW has been working well with GM and I would expect them to get another car there soon after. Continuing the Cobalt along side the Cruze was in the plans since last year. I wager there is another reason to this as the Cobalt was not going away as soon as the Cruze showed up anyway. They will have to kill the Cobalt since the Transaxles will run out as a Friend who works in that plant said they were set till 2011 and no more for the 4 speed Auto transaxles. This is why the HHR and Cobalt both die in 2011. He told me the dates for the last build and there was no plans for any after that.
  23. I would feel the addition of the 1.4 Turbo and a six speed in the Cruze will do well but in the Volt tied to the electric drive system should see also some good numbers when it has to run. If those numbers are not as good or better than the Cruze than GM will have a marketing issue here. I suspect when the car is on gas it will do well on MPG but will just not have the zip of the full electric mode. This is based on early reports on the Volt by the engineers who are working on it. It will be a car that many here will want to keep in electric mode to keep performance to what we would expect. I just hope the gap is pretty close by production time on the two systems.
  24. This is the target I was expecting and hoping for. I assumed it needed to do better than 40 MPG and the closer to 50 MPG the more appealing it will by to the hypermilers.
