  1. Who said the XTS will ever go to Europe? Just because they build it for the NA market does not mean they will or should send it there. I would like to see the end result for this car in AWD before I pass judgment. I expect the XTS to be more a NA car and car for China. The ATS and next CTS are prime to grow and win people to Cadillac in Europe and then you can work in the more expensive cars once you have shown you can build a good lower priced car. To dump a $100,000 Cadillac on Europe will fail fast even if it is a good car. Most people will not spend large amounts on cars they don'r trust. An ATS could be an easy risk for them to learn more about the new Cadillac. Besides I would expect many changes to these cars to make them more to the taste of the Euro maket. Things like a ATS Diesel Wagon etc will be seen first there vs here. I think we need to see more of GM's plans before we pass too much judgment on what they will do. I think the BLS taught them a good embarassing lesson. GM has already shown us they are willing to make special models of the cars we have here for China so why not Europe too. Heck they even make a different Cruze for each market now.
  2. Per the drawings, new photo's and prototypes running around. this is what I think we can expect. The cab looks are pretty much what we see here for the most. A few trim items my change but it will keep a Nox style nose. Also a standard cab and crew cab will be offered. The bed may not have the cover and fastback on it unless offered as an option in some markets. Also the outside tie downs I would expect in some low cost markets but not in North America and some others. I expect the bed seen here. I could see cheaper beds or more work oriented and other changes for South America, Middle East and even South Africa markets. Many of these market want stripped down low cost models. These are the ones I would expect a more striped third world look. It is easy to make and install different beds for different needs.
  3. The extended cab in the small trucks is for only storage and a quick short ride like a back seat in a 911. They offer the 4 door cab if you really need to haul normal people. I only put people I hate in the back with my old extended cabs. We should see a crew cab soon enough for those who need real long term human space. The dog loved my Somoma space. It was her domain. As for the interior an old Studebaker covered wagon had a better interior vs the old Colorado.
  4. Europe can be taken but it will have to start with the ATS. The last small Caddy in Europe was a rebodied Saab that fooled no one and had FWD. The ATS is the class where the volume is. They need to meet the Euro makers with similar optioned cars and a little better price. Small engines and Diesels are a must. The economy is hurting in much of Europe to selling a few highend cars will just let them fail again. Taylor the ATS to the Euro market and they will come. Cadillac will never dominate Europe but it would be nice if they could just compete and make a profit. Benz and BMW dominate so much it would be like Fiat tring to take of Ford and Chevy and trying to dominate here. Good marketing will also be important. Engineer the car to get some loud mouth like Jeremy Clarkson to love it and people over there will listen. Win the respected critics over there and then market what they say. They have failed to do that in the past. Only the CTSV has ever won much acclaim. Win the acclaim with a normal ATS and the V will will take care of itself.
  5. The cover is for aero and the buttress may also contribute? Either way I see that as a optional item if it is offered at all. I expect this truck less tail lights and a few trim items to be 90% of the final truck. We have seen the patten drawings and they are pretty much what you see here. Either way job well done. I expect the American one to be even more trimed out.
  6. I am glad to see that I am not the only one that sees alot of the Denali XT in this. The rear side window are very similar. The hood vent is not a leftover Caddy but a carry over of the Denali XT. The Headlights are toned down but have similar sweeping shape. Even the hood line is similar. Fender flairs have a similar theme. As I have said before GM seldoms waste good styling features and often they find there way in to production many times. I too suspect the grill on the Denali XT may give us a glimps of the future GMC? Could they change the body cut on the side to be more like the Denali XT to make it different than the Chevy? The Asian trucks copy American styling and then people claim the Americans copy the Asian styling. Is there really much differance anymore? One thing for sure with no Ranger in the way this truck should do well if they don't over price it.
  7. I like it! I just hope they add some color more more trim to the interior. The first look I get the vibe of the of the Zeta based GMC Denali XT from a few years back. It looks to have shared some of the look but with a Body on Frame construction. Because they use portholes on everything is why I could care less if Buick has them anymore. Maserati and Buick are the only two that should have them. No matter what the styling is a major step up from the present Colorado. No matter how hard I tried I could not bring myself to spend the money on the old truck even in loaded 4x4 form. This could be my next vehicle if the quality is as good as I expect. No more cheap interiors please.
  8. I saw them too and it has a real Truck/Ute look about it. The cab looks like a Truck with a car nose and the bed looks like a Holden Ute styled bed. Could this be unibody similar to the Zeta? It also reminds me of the GMC 4 door show Ute we had a few years back but just a little more truck like. Either way I like it. The interior is a well optioned but a little plain in color and trim.
  9. They must have gone up as I looked at a few in this area and they really were not all that expensive a couple years ago. The only ones with any value were the low mileage Northstars and even they were resonable. Compared to a Cadillac sedan from the same era they have held value but... I just looked in my area and I find them dor $4K-$12K. Not a whole lot better than a low mileage 88 Fiero GT. At those prices I think an Italian bodied Cadillac is a lot of car for the money. Kind of like how the Lincoln Mark II has been treated. A Rare and special car but little value vs original cost. I even see Reatta's at a good price but the dash issues are a pain to deal with since parts are scarce. I still love the drop tops. I even saw one here that someone put a 3800 SC in it.
  10. I would still like to see more weight come out but I also know how hard and expensive it can be with out a full redesign. So for now we will gladly take the reduction as a improvement on a already good car.
  11. I have heard his quotes befoe and liked what I heard. Lets just hope they give him room to work.
  12. Based on the photos and the person posting. A hint at a Zeta or Alpha based small truck of some nature?
  13. Don't sweat the votes. You are correct many were sold with great rebates. I had G8 here advertised in the paper at $23,800. The G6 were fire sale price to the point I had 3 non GM owning co workers buy them based on price. They walked away from Ford and Toyota because they got more car for less money. The price on the G8 almost made me move but I worried about resale with the loss of Pontiac or if Chevy got it later. So far resale is really good on them.
  14. I was in a new SHO the other day. While it is a faily large interior the dash and console made me claustrophobic. While no were as bad as a H1 Hummer it did give me that same ffeeling. I am right at 6' and under 200 pounds. I can't imagine anyone larger feeling good in the front seat of that car.
  15. There is always going to be models we will think would be better off as one brand vs another. Even a case could be made for the new Chevy Sports Sedan as a Buick vs a Chevy. It is not going to be cheap and Chevy will already have a new Malibu sedan and soon after a Imapala sedan. I really don't have an issue if one or the other has the sedan but a case could be made for either. I just don't want both to get one that is similar. As the public goes in general I really don't see people worrying in the public sector if this car is a Cadillac or Buick. Even then lets just see what all we get in this car before we pass too much judgment. The final product may hold more than we know. Also in the big picture how much do we really know on where GM is going. They speak little on future products and plans like they have just a few years ago. This car could just be filling space till their real future is ready. Odds are the roots of this car are still in and around the pre BK developments they rushed before they filed. Either way GM has identified a market or they would not have built it. Besides I would not see this car being shared with Opel and odds are it will do well in China as a Cadillac. Heck they may sell more XTS there than here. The truth is there is more to this than we know or have expressed here. At this point it is a Cadillac and that will not change. It would be wise to see what the finished product is and what Cadillac plans are then we can rip em for it if a proper reason is deemed.
  16. This is too funny. I find it a little disturbing as the guy in the picture looks like a Buick rear end. Autoweeks Bodydouble
  17. GM is damned if they do and damned if they don't when it comes to things like brake handles etc. 1/3 will give them hell for having it in the Malibu 1/3 will give them hell if they take it out and 1/3 will say parking what? My take if sports car should have it and the rest what ever as does it really matter? What works for me is if it has a handle I am more incline to us it more and keep the rear disc adjusted up. In the GTP I tend to forget about the pedal and seldom use it. In the big picture this is such a small thing to really worry about on this car. So few people in the real world will even notice.
  18. Remember, this is a world car...outside the US, it will no doubt have a manual, as buyers in other markets know how to drive manuals. Would probably be cost prohibitive to have two different parking brake configurations. That is it. One basic car and tweeked for the markets it is in. It really matters little if it has a handle or pedal. Heck the one we are looking at could be for Brazil or Germany for all we know. Just because it is a Chevy and testing here it may not be the version for this market. That is something we need to consider with the new cars. Anyone remember the Camaro with the Dumbo ear mirrors.
  19. There are a couple service car companies here in Ohio and they have been working hard to adapt many unconventional cars to their needs. I saw a FWD Lincoln Hearse the other day. Bit Odd. Also there is a large market for long limos that is wide open with the loss of the Town Car. Not everyone wants a SUV Limo. I see this car picking up the Town car, STS and DTS buyers along with some Lexus. There are enough old owners of all three of the old cars to show a profit. I would still not underestimate this car. While it is not a car for everyone it will be a much better car than some expect.
  20. Wait, the first gen CTS-V didn't have a handbrake? Never knew that None of the first gen CTSes had a hand brake. I never knew that.. I had to look at pictures to be sure about that I never missed it in the automatics but the first 6 speed I drove I reached for it and it was not where I would have expected it. I like the one in the Fiero. It is on the left side. You set it and push it back down after it locks.
  21. Stop making sense you will make someone mad. Pss. don't even bring up it has B pillars and is not a hard top. That sets some really off. You have the right Idea. The car is to make money and fill a segment that GM has identified. Not everyone wants a CTS or even the new ATS. My Inlaws were several time Town Car owners and now a DTS owner. I hate the DTS but they and many other do like the car. This is not the flagship car that is expected to fill the needs of many that want RWD, V8 and more of everything else. This will not be Cadillac's top seller but it will turn in many sales and do a lot of limo/Livery service work in the large cities. Lincoln has abandon this segment with the loss of the Town Car. Just in NY City alone I would hate to count up all the Livery cars I see there when I am in town. I also see this as a big player in Funneral home service work too. I am sure we will see some Hearses and other body conversions on this one too. I kind of think this as a modern Fleetwood Sedan. Comfort Quiet and a nice ride. That is all some expect in this class of car and I expect it will have that and even more. I think the TT engine will suprise some at what it will be able to do.
  22. To me this car is a great suprise. It looks so much better in person than I ever could have expected. I really hope people take to it. Even the evil Asian chrome brows in the back look good.
  23. The newe interior is like the exterior. We just need to wait till they are done. Just look at how many people have noticed the car already looks better. The interior once it has the correct surface material, trim and color it will take on a better look. Welcome new guy. There aew a few who play rough at times. Don't take it personel as there are really good people here too. Just to note GM has plenty of hand brakes but they also have overlooked cars that should have has them like my GTP and even the First Gen CTS V. If they can put one in my SS why not the other performance cars?
  24. That is about the same I saw here except the AWD part. Most people if they want AWD are looing at trucks. Besides AWD system in a $20K car that gets 30 MPG is pretty pointless. It would be underpowered and not a top of the line system. One has to be realistic. The Soul and other boxed cars on the market sell well without AWD so the DOA is a little premature. The High MPG and low price is why so many of the Korean cars are selling. Right now with high gas prices it is a hot button. If the price drops it's back to the trucks.
  25. I really glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks it made a big jump in looks. While it is not going to ever be a Maserati it should do well for the market segment it is aimed at. They sell a hell of a lot of boring sedans because there are a lot of boring buyers and that is what they want. Who's to argue with them as their money is just as green as anyone elese. I agree while not everyone will love this car it will suprice many once it is done and the sales should also suprise if GM keep the price competitive.
