  1. I think we will see one at some point but it will be the all Captiva. Chevy is still missing a HHR replacment. A 2WD and AWD offering would do well. They just need to make it look like a truck or SUV and people will Buy.
  2. There are many tranny issues on many GM cars of this era if someone has messed with the programing. Some tuners like to leave the full power on at the shift points and it can lead to tranny failure in many cases. Leaving the full power in at the shift points picks up a lot of easy performance but if you drive it hard it kills the tranny,. This is also a big issue on the V8 W-Body Impala SS / Grand Prix GXP / LaCrosse Super I've heard. It is even on the 3800 SC. They pull the power at the shift points on the Series III engine in my GTP. The first programmers put the power back to the shift points and guys started killing the trannys left and right. Even my Turbo upgrade on my HHR SS is limited at the shift points. GM also no matter the power limited the driveline to 315 FT LB. That is the safe limit for the 4 speed auto. The racers were using the Cadillac transaxle but the have to cut the floor to make them fit. THis is why GM did not use them. THey get over 320 FT LB and up it is only a matter of time before they blow. THis is where the new trannys really help with the new engines that are coming.
  3. I really wonder how many people will see these and go to a Chevy dealer trying to buy one. The Vue has it's share of followers and was one of the best selling Saturns. Because of the size being smaller is why I think the Buick Encore will do well. There are many of the HHR web site people who hate the Nox because they feel it is too big?
  4. I would have to guess a larger sedan over the Lacrosse would fit them well. It would give them better leverage to compete down the road with Audi and others in this class. This appears to be the direction the are working towards.
  5. would it really be all that different than losing pontiac or olds...? i know it's a brand with big history and possibly a huge future, but those that work there could still work for GM, and the IP that they hold won't go anywhere. even if the brand disolved, aussies could still have a design place down there if GM thought it needed one....and could afford it. No news here as we already knew the RWD is not going away all together. We knew Holden, Chevy and Cadillac are active here in a RWD sedans and we also know Buick has been active in China with Holden based products and could bring it to the states if they choose. As for the name Holden is just that anymore a name. WIth more and more Chevy product coming in to their line they are just the Chevy of down under. It only goes to reason Chevy here could and should get Police cars and a Sports sedan to offer here. Even if Holdens name would ever vanish [i don't expect it to] that does not mean the people who design and the group building these cars would also vanish. I expect we will see the Zeta replacment and it will be well designed to fit the needs of all of GM's Global divisions. I also expect it will lose a lot of weight too. There is a lot going on and we will see some cool suprises here in the future. Your prognostications make me laugh, I can tell you this, Aussies won't just simply start buying Chevys, and if Holden goes, everything will go. If the AU government doesn't acqiuesce to the GM shakedown, everything that GM owns in Oz will go in 2016. But look on the bright side, at least your spelling has gotten better, spellcheck is a wonderful thing, huh? Good to see some things never change and you're the same old souerkraut. Looks to me the Aussies are already driving a lot of rebadged Chevys aleady According to you they must not know it yet? Barina = Sonic Cruze Colorado Volt Captiva If I recall correctly they are getting the Malibu and I would have to figure the Impala will land there too. Why yes there it is the Malibu on their web site under future models right next to that new Gen Colorado just like the one we will see in the Chevy dealers here. You can call em Holdens but they are still Chevys when you pull down their badges. Seems like Holden is a lot more Chevy already than it is Holden, take away the RWD cars and you just have a Chevy with a lion on them. But then we also pull Lions off here and call them Chevy now on the police package. They may keep the Holden name but Chevy and Holden are dance partners like Opel and Buick.
  6. Several problems are one the maket has changed. Kids today thrive on the hottest I phone and Video game. They love tech for techs sake. Second the same old thing of how to afford a new car and then afford the insurance. I wanted a new TA back in 1985 but with my age even with a good driving record a performance car of any kind was out accept for of all thing a Fiero. LOL! I had to go with it back then, I see things today are not much better as kids with WRX cars are paying out the @ss for insurance. I would love to see a sporty I4 coupe that could be had for around $18K and a better engine sold ala cart. This way they could choose what they want. For the most kids today are out of the Camaro market and are turning to small FWD coupes and sedans and put the money in wheels and audio. Chevy has noted this with the Sonic as they will keep the power down for the RS and they are looking to offer a sound package in it. It is patterned after the Sonic Boom show car. If kids want better they will have to make due like I did and buy old performance cars and build them up. The Muscle cars were cheap when I was that age and we did a lot too them. In fact I made money on each one I had. I see the Turbo 2.0 as being the go to engine for many of the young buyers who can afford it but that is the key afford it. They may have to make due with a used Cobalt SS. No they have the ZR1 down to something like 7:19.63. The CTSV 7:57 The Z06 with the full Carbon package is 7:20.66 Camaro SS did an 8:20 Note the ZL1 7:41.27 was stock trim on stock OE tires. Full cage, fire system and 30 pounds of test equipment. The driver was Aaron Link GM driver and engineer. Just to put it in perspective the 911S is 7:41.23 and the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera (7:40.76) GM should be given credit to make the technology to really take a heavy car and turn it into a real Super Car. I think the age of the Muscle and Pony car has finally passed on as this car is proving to be stepping into a area only the elite cars tread and at a price less than the ZR1. This should mean we should really expect even more from the improved Vette and future Alpha Camaro. that's why i said first time by the ZR1, Just about anything is faster than the first.
  7. There are some simple factors that are in play #1 Not all dealers are in areas where this is going to be a hot car. In fact there are many Chevy dealers between the coast that do nothing but sell Trucks and a hand full of cars. These small town dealers don't want Volts. #2 The press of late has not helped and in time it will pass. # 3 There are still people out there that seem to think GM's future is hinged on the Volt? GM is only looking to the Volt to give them a in with an electric car so once better batteries are at hand they will have a model they can sell. Also if they did not start to build these cars the price of them will never come down. Now that there is a market prices will drop in time. #4 The price will be a limiting factor for a little while longer. #5 This is more a Suburban car. People out in the sticks don't care and the city apartments and condo dwellers plug in where? #6 The biggest thing I feel hurting the Volt are two things. Limited avail in many areas yet. I have only seen two dealer demo's here. Also the Cruze Eco has hurt it the most with good MPG and a much lower price. The simple truth is the Volt is here and it is not going to go away. It is not here to save GM and will for the most play a limited supporting roll for the near future. From everyone I have spoken to that has driven one they love it. With my daily drive I could use one and never use a drop of gas. I really don't care about the Enviroment part but the fuel savings would attract me if the price came down and it was offered in something other than a 4 door sedan.
  8. I recognize this, but Europe is an economic maelstrom at the moment... The way I see it they have noting to lose if the cars are right. The cars in the past failed because the cars failed. If sales don't take off do to economic reasons they at least can show they can build a real car and earn some image. If the Euro chokes they can fall back on the American market with no shame Europes economic mistakes. The people who would buy these anyways are the one who will still have money. I suspect the Euro will get bailed out again. I am more worried about Opel. I often wonder if Opels may be built here and China since they are just Buicks now. They can be sent in if they can't get the labor issues handled. Besides they will be cheaper than the others in the market. It may give them a leg up on people needing to down size. They might just give Cadillac a change if they porvide the car they want and need.
  9. No they have the ZR1 down to something like 7:19.63. The CTSV 7:57 The Z06 with the full Carbon package is 7:20.66 Camaro SS did an 8:20 Note the ZL1 7:41.27 was stock trim on stock OE tires. 10. Well since no one else has said anything I thought I might post this so we are not the only GM site without a thread on the ZL1 performance. This week the cover has been pulled off the road test of the Zl1. It was tested vs the 302 Boss that the media has fallen in love with for it's track performance and the Camaro beat The HP helped a little but the new suspension has taught the fat lady to really dance. In the mean tme Al Oppenheiser says that he feels the ZL1 will remain faster than the coming Shelby. I know Al and he is one a real car guy and two he is not a BS er. They have done computer sims on both cars and they feel the Shelby will not be able to use all the power it will have. The new suspension is the latest of the Magnaride. It has 4 magnets vs two for faster changes and reaction times. They also have a way to remove the magnetic charge from the fluid to change rated faster too. This has added up to a car that someone can drive stupid fast and not have to be a pro driver to see some very good time. Autoweek also has a story with a rookie female 18 year old KNN NASCAR Series driver. She took the car out on a track she did not know and came with in 4% of the lead GM test driver that pro road racer Randy Pobst could not even match. I think this car will be very impressive once it arrives and with all these tools being added to this car it could mean so much more when they are added to the lighter Alpha Camaro. I think we need to really pay attention to the ATS road test and think more power and a little more suspension tuning. They also commented how well the Camaro rode and drove on the street. The Camaro's suspension was able to adjust on it's own and gave the best road and track in a fraction of a second where the Boss has to be stopped and trim panels removed to set the car to one of 5 settings. Ford is now working with Bilstein on a electonic suspension for the Shelby, they will have to play catch up as GM has a great lead on this new technology. With out this tuning it will be difficult for the more powerful Shelby to put the power down. Power is good if you can use it and right now it is looking like they may not be able to use all of it all the time. This is going to be fun to watch. Note if you missed it the Camaro at the Green Hell turned a 7:41 lap. It should give you an idea how well this car is tuned. .

  12. I have hear people state the Nox and Terrain are too large. Yes they are out there. I think the Granite was going to be the more usable GM Soul. I still think some version of it will show up at Chevy as they are better suited for a model like this and they have yet to replace the HHR. I expect Buick will get a SUV/CUV version of the Nox when they redo it. It will slot in between the Encore and Enclave. GM is far from done and some of the changes they are making may lead to better vehicles and sold in a division they may fit better in.
  13. You have to start sometime and when you are redesigning the CTS and building a larger flag ship it's the time is prime to incorperate the needed features to make them acceptable to a global market. The only issue I see is the value of the Euro and where all this will end up. If there are issues the cars will still sell here.
  14. You need to really start looking around. Hybrid technology is creaping in to this segment. Porsche is even making a electric race car now. Ferrari is looking to down size engines in their larger production cars. Jaguar has an electric coming and Mclaren has Kers going into production. Also Porshce and others sports car MFG have divesed into 4 door cars and SUV's as they can no longer just live on a couple sport coupes alone. The fact is the MPG of these cars has to go up. But even worse the green movment is strong in Europe and has gotten the many sports car MFG to think of ways to not draw criticism. It getting tough to sell even expensive sports cars. Also numbers do effect the Vette. Last year they sold 12,000 units and don't think that it could remain there and GM not take notice if that number contiunues. The Vette team contary to popular belief does not get a free pass. This car has to make a buisness case just like every other GM car out there. The Vette also has to make a profit. Like it or not the Vette is a Chevy and GM is not here just to make cars at a loss they have done that too much with too many other cars. They have proven they can make a top self performance car and still make money so numbers really is not an issue. The real trick is in todays market they can no longer go 12+ years with out major refreshes like they used to do.
  15. We took a RHD Rolls to the Drive through hat Mc Donalds once. to me Driving the cars was not a challange but riding in the left hand seat without the wheel was a thrill. You nver felt so out of control in a car. Now when I drove in a country that drove on the left the first few turns can work on you till you get the mind set. GM build a bunch of Toytoya Cavaliers here once. The left over ones they did dump to the Rual postal people. These were an odd sight. RHD Chevy with Toyota emblems.
  16. What surprised me about the Encore was that with the driver seat set for me, I could sit in the back and have lots of legroom. I didn't think to take a picture at the time, but if it is open in Chicago I'll get one (heck, even if it's not, I'll get someone to open it for me) Ah feel the power of the Media. LOL!
  17. Don't think they will leave out the Austrailian market either. I suspect they will wait till the new CTS to do this. It is too late to invest in the present car now unless they already have the work already done and just have not used it.
  18. You really have to follow and listen to the Vette team and what is going on. They pretty much made it clear the C7 was moved up as they needed to update the present car asap. This means while it will be improved the car would not change radically. With that said they also have stated they already are working on a C8 now and the C7 would not have a very long run. The great changes will come with the C8 as GM has to address the fast changing market for Sports cars. With new Goverment regs and the added technology they will need to make a major revamp to the Vette in the future. The C8 will do this and the C7 is just more or less going to address the present sins of the C6 and buy time for the C8. Last year the Vette sales tanks witht he perfect storm of a poor economy and an aging platform. This car will buy them the time they need to address the Vette in ways they could not before. They are better funded and they are also needed the time to do the needed work for where they are going. GM did not pump the money they did in BG KY just for the C7 only as they are looking ahead even more. The Vette is now a global sports can not just the American sports car put together by fat men in Kentrucky. Look for some old things to carry on but we will see more of some of the traditions fall by the way side. The pop up head lamps were only the first thing to go. I suspect we will see other more major changes that will step on some traditional buyers toes but they will make the car a no compromise world beater but still at a much lower price. Just look at what GM just did on the new ZL1, the improvments in this gen and the next will be amazing as GM adds technology that we have yet to see. I look for GM to improve handling and ride more than anything and I suspect the ZR1 to see 725 HP at some point.
  19. You were not so sure about this when they killed Pontiac. See the Sun still comes up. LOL!
  20. Based on the drawing it has a short side but curves out in the middle longer. But we will have to wait to confirm this. Too much camo on this one to tell if that detail is accurate. Would have but the Zeta is nearing the end of it's life and just live it out with some upgrades till it is gone. From what they said they can't make it much lighter as it is. I believe GM could afford to do this one much better this now with better funding. But who is to say they could not do a larger Alpha coupe as a Chevelle like vehicle or a new Zeta replacement down the road. A flag ship Cadillac has to go on something.
  21. You can make a fat lady dance and dance well. But the fact is the Zeta is just too heavy and to get the Camaro where it needs to be the Alpha will do more good for this car than any, The loss of weight will not only improve the 0-60 times but stopping and handling will also improve. Slap the electronics on that and it will be amazing what this car could do. I look forward to the ATS and XTS test as I suspect they will prove to be very different than many expect and be excellent handling sedans. The XTS I suspect will prove to be an eye opener for some. They are not pure performance cars but they will no put a wheel wrong under most conditions. The new electonic shocks and the better funded engineer at GM will prove to bring us many good things in the near future. I liked how they said the 302 was good with lots of feed back but the Camaro was supercar like. This also is where the Vette is going as I feel with it will have less mass and it looks like it is lower. This will make the already great handling even better.
  22. The car has a longer but a little more narrow wheel base than the C6. Note the drawing I posted here from a web site a couple weeks ago "Sorry I can mention per it was removed by managment here" looked very close to the right shape of this car. The web site starts with a J and it was there in Nov. The B pillars going to change and the rear window will not wrap around. There will be either a quarter window or a black quarter incert inthe C pillar. The rear roof look very much sloped, it is a much more traditional fast back. The the front fenders has a high ridge and arch to them similar to the ridge on the 130 concept and the new Colorado. This seems to be somthing I have seen showin up more on many of the newer Chevy designs. If you look at the drawing I think they really have this one close. Many thought it was just a wild guess but as it looks now It may be the best lead of where this car is going on the hidden details. If the drawings are as close as I expect the car should be a nice change till the soone to come C8 gets here. The one detail I was not sure on was the chome on the fender vent. I am sure if they do it in real life it will look fine but in the drawing it kind of reminded me of the Ford Escort Vent. I am just shocked at how no one here is posting about the real news today and how well the ZL1 handles. The exciting part is if they can make a 4000 pound coupe dance this well the 3400 pound ATS and 6 Gen Camaro both are going to be well worth the wait. Autoweek and Motor Trend were very please. It really smoked the 302 Boss on track. and I don't mean by just a little. It not the extra Horse Power that did it either.
  23. Having spent a lot of miles in AWD/2WD V6 and 4 cylinder Nox I have to agree with Olds that the 4 will be enough for most buyers. The only issue would be the tow package is only with the V6. The V6 does have more power but just does not give you the feel. I could see a Turbo 4 ending up here but not so much as a performace model but more as a better power option. The torque band would be much better for this application. I agree that I will be shocked if they ever put a larger engine in this vehicle. Like most vehicles now they have as large of an engine as they will ever see as most will move to smaller and more powerful smaller engines. While the thought of a performance Terrain sounds good on paper and it handles well I would have to give it some pause. While it may not seem like a tall vehicle it still has a high center of gravity and a not so wide stance. Even lowered these vehicles can and will tip. Being inbolved with the HHR web site I find many of them flip with the center of gravity even lower than the Terrain. Smaller taller vehicles are just prone to rolls and not much you can do about it unless they get wider and I do not expect that. We are still in a holding pattern on a new vehicle and with the time spent in a Nox I have it and the Terrain on our list of possible vehicles. I am not a fan of the Terrain grill but in some colors and the right price I could still buy one. The thing I noted was one of the Nox I had was a LT1 Rental that had the sticker in it for $23,000. The way it was equipt it was not loaded but it had all the things most people expect and a little more. I found it to be a good value and I think it is something Chevy should advertise more as it was a lot of vehicle for the money. It is not hard to sell the loaded ones but I feel there are many out there that could be interested in the lower models if they knew how inexpensive they were and that they were not stripped out hulks. The one we priced out that we wanted is stickered at $34K. We will take the current rebates and what is out late this summer to decide what we will buy. The wife has taken a liking to the new Buicks too being she is now in the new Buick target Demo of 30-40 years old females. I figure she is the one who has to drive it so I will play along with what she chooses. I like the utility of the Nox/Terrain but I also like the Heads Up and other features of the Lacrosse. I suspect we may end up with a Turbo Regal or V6 Lacrosse as she like more power in a car than anything else. But with her Job there are times a utility vehicle would be very handy for her. I am glad to see the present model is as good or better. Often this is the case of most GM cars as the models a year or two old are just more refined with time and added marketing
  24. GM has to counter the Ford V6 as it has shown people like it and are willing to pay more for it. The key is willing to pay more. GM can not leave any money on the table when they have a V6 that is as good or better than the Ford. Offering the V8 and V6 is good as it lets the buyer choose what they want. This will let the market move to be more accepting to smaller and more efficent engines if DC gets their way.
  25. No these engines are not going to make them the second coming of the GN. But they will be better refinded engines with better power that will make them better acceptable to many past V6 and V8 buyers. The Verano rides very well like a larger car ride but it also still handles well. It is not a road racer but it is not a boat either. The reviews point out that the only major weakness was the lack of power.
