  1. Well, each fills a specific segment--subcompact, compact, midsize, fullsize, speciality. The first 4 segments (as FWD models) is the standard approach taken by most full-line mainstream automakers...Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, and Nissan do it (and VW outside NA). Yes for now but as the 54.5 CAFE comes I see them all shrinking unless they find that missing silver bullet. At some point I see some models from many companies may be phased out as they will be too crowded. As for your SS... It is coming and you will be glad it was not an Impala. It will be of SS power not ZL1.
  2. Malibu = Fusion. Impala = Taurus This has not changed. Keep in mind the Malibu is now Regal size and shorter hence less rear seat room. This car is more XTS sized and will have a lot more interior room. It will also be wider. The interior and trunk will prove to set the size of this car appart. If you ever were in the back of the new Regal and the new Lacrosse you will understand the difference. Thanks Hyper, good to know this as I did not pick it up when I was last on a chevy lot with the older models. Just seemed to be two cars with different names for the longet time that you start to ignor them. GM is kind of moving things around with the new models so keep expecting changes is size. Don't forget the RWD Sports Sedan still to come too. I think in time the Malibu and Cruze may be folded into one model. The Chevy fleet is getting crowded with all these sedans Sonic, Cruze, Malibu, Impala and Sports sedan. I could see two merging to one in the next gen. All of them will get smaller over time and there is only so much room.
  3. The extra cost, the extra weight and the lesser MPG would eliminate 95% of the livery sales. AWD is one of the most over rated items and gimicks on cars today. There are some people who live where it is needed but in most metro areas if you can not get around in RWD or FWD and all the traction aids you should not be on the road. Here in the snow belt we have less AWD cars than in LA where they freak out when it rains. I am all for the companies selling AWD as they make a lot of money on them but the reality is unless you live out in the country or have a really long drive way in a snow belt region there is no need for AWD. These cars are not made for off road like a truck. Now on a Supercar with mega power that is hard to nail down to the ground that is another story. But even then I would want it to be an option and not required. I have to disagree with you, the more I have driven AWD vehicles, the more I am sold on them for better traction in all weather. Yes in the south, they do not need it, but here in the PNW. This saves butts more often than not on a hill with a slick coating of snow/rain. While I agree it is better traction the fast still remains in normal winter conditions on most public roads I get a rwd or FWD to go anywhere it needs to go. How many years did we get along without it with no issues? I push snow with the front bumper on my HHR and I still get through. AWD is still not a sub for poor winter driving skills. Hell around here the only people who have issues getting around generally have nearly bald tires and who's fault is that? LOL! The bottom line is AWD is better but not required on most public roads in the winter.
  4. Note all the Nanny Safety technology will be something that will wear off fast. I have some of this in the new car and it is the first thing you will shut off. Lane departure is the worst on narrow side roads.

  6. I must say I am stunned. I expected a ok car but they have made a very impressive looking car and sent the Taurus to the land of misfit boxy cars. Now if GM can keep with the trend of pricing cars under Ford they will do well here. I of late have not liked many new GM cars till I see them in person. Cars like the Verano, XTS and Cruze looked eh in photos but improved much in person. This car has crossed over and look dimentional in photos something not easy to do. To me I see a lot of old Chevy themes here but i also I see a little Chevy SS concept and I also see a little nod to the stying on the Bently Coupe. Seeing how the wheel was lifted from Benz I wonder how much they looked to other cars from Europe. The interior looks much cleaner than the Malibu and the tu tone interior make it look much more expensive. I am not suprised by the engines. We all knew this car would have a base 4 cylinder. Job well done GM I really look forward to seeing the first one in public. Sorry but I do not see this one in rental fleets with the way GM has been protecting the resale value of their new products.

  8. I do not expect the Z28 to ever top the ZL1. The Z 28 will play a specialty model based on the 1LE model would be my guess. It will be a street ZL1 lacking the engine and extra weight. Think Z06. They The key is they have something special planned but just what? 10 years from now they will be Turbo 4 and TT V6 cars with a limited edition [read expensive V8]. The cars will be lighter and smaller. With less weight they will be as fast or faster 0-60 but they will handle better and stop faster. This is one car as long as you don't count cylinders will benefit from the down size. You figure the ATS Turbo is 3200 the Alpha Camaro will be right there with it with only a little more weight for the V6 and V8. Less mass will do wonders when used with the new magnetic suspensions.
  9. The 1LE was a car option for those who wanted to showroom stock race. Like you said it has a lot of deleted items. The problem is they only wanted to sell a few and that is just what they did as few people were willing to pay a big price for a stripped down car. GM with this package can race it in several series now in the SCCA. But they this time kept the other items in the car as they plan to sell as many as they can. The added weight is not much witht he kind of weight this car now has. dropping 100 pounds would help little and the loss of AC and Radio would kill a lot of sales. From what I was told they still have plans for a Z28 but no one is talking. I wonder if it will be held out till 2015 for the new Alpha chassis. The Disciples met last weekend in Vegas and got to drive some of the new toys. I also know they are getting asked more and more on the Gen 6 so I expect the Gen 5 will just see some upgrades and then bow out for the new car.
  10. I don't think of the XTS as a stop gap. I see it more like what the Captiva is. This is the car Cadillac can sell in higher volumes and still not kill the value of the other cars in the line. They can move these as livery and fleet sales and still retain the value of the other cars in their line up. The sales in this area of fleet sales really do show a profit vs the rental fleets where they are more or less dumping grounds for unsold cars. Cadillac was even shown testing a factory built limo in camo. I think many will be suprised how much Cadillac will push this car more than just at the open market. What ever cars they sell to the old and other fans of this car will only be added profits. Now the town car is gone no one has really made a big play for the open sales there. Some say the 300 but Chrysler has never pushed it for fleet or livery markets. I suspect it will not be long till we see one driving away the fired celeberties on Donald Trumps Show. They are using an old STS now. As for the DTS. I have one in the garage now and I would not trade my new GMC for it. I hate that car and almost everything about it. It was an early one and the looks did imporve on the later cars but I was never a fan of it. It i just not my kind of car.
  11. Not too sure on production yet. This site is great for placing orders and I would expect production to be ready May, June or July depending on where GM is at on the set up of the production line. I may be wrong but these are the months I would expect production. They need the dealers to order first.
  12. Based on my experience with both the 3.0 and the 3.6 is that one is good and the other is a little better just as the numbers point out. The 3.0 does a good job now in the Terrain and Nox but the added HP and more important the Torque is the key. But what hurts these engines more than anything is the low end torque. The sweet spot of both engines is over 4,000 RPM.The 3.0 has over 200 FT LBS at right around 3,000 RPM but with the gearing in the vehicles it takes a kick down and around 4,300 to feel it pull. The engine is well able to handle the RPM but sure does not have the strong low end my HHR SS has with the Turbo 4. The good thing is the 3.6 will not pay a penalty with less MPG. My 3.0 is not a race car by anymeans but I have no complaints on performance as it get 4000 pounds moving well enought to do what ever is asked of it in normal daily driving. At one time I thought the 2.0 Turbo would have been a good choice but now after some time in the Terrain I have changed my mind. The 2.0 Turbo is a good engine and very efficent as long as you are not into high boost mode all the time. I feel with these heavy vehicles they will created a issue where you would be in more boost in normal driving and negate the MPG adavantage of the small engine. There is a break even point with the small engines and heavy cars.
  13. No problem I just was starting to wonder if something happened. I tossed out a few how great the Chevy 130R comments for you while you were gone. LOL!
  14. Now it looks like a freakin mini van in this picture. It is just the the photo. I also looks lower and wider too. In person it will still look like a crossover. I can say once many here see this in person they will have little issue with the restyling. Now to me the greater crime is the wood trim that looks like it is out of an old Caprice. You know that real cheap platic looking stuff. I hope it too looks better in person.
  15. That was my pointy too we are just moving from 1970-71 to 1972 again. Welcome back stranger I hope all is well. The new nose has a note of the new VW in it too. While not exciting it has done well with the public. Many time clean and unoffensive are what the general public wants in a daily driver.
  16. I am looking for the Fiero now. I know some were found at Target in Indiana. I did find a custome 2 442 much. It was a early 80's 442 with the fast back It has an engine in the front and rear.
  17. The Sun Roof in my HHR and Terrain are the same one in the CTS. They open quiet, work well and slide into the roof vs pop up. They all open to a large size and give a good open air feeling. I see not real advantage to this large sliding thing. I did hate the one on the GTP. It was small and was of the flip up style. It made a lot of wind noise and took a lot of head room even thought it did not slide in the roof.
  18. I agree! When will these companies ever learn that these big tops are just a flash in the pan. Just look at all of those that came went before them. I hope GM has learned their lessons from the problems, cost and weight of the G6 roof and the old SRX roof. The only one I ever saw that amounted to much was the one on the 911. The Lincoln one is not worth the space it opens and I don;t think the people in the back are all that worried about seeing sky over them. The cost of this option and lack of sales will kill it in 1-2 years.
  19. I don't know if anyone could afford a Suburban with enough light weight materials in it to make a 1/2 ton. The one thing that will help is that they and the Tahoe are not selling like they used too as many people have down sized. At least they would not be large numbers in the past. As for the 1/2 ton GM will keep it around even if they have to make it out of tin foil. Too much profit and too many sales to even hint at removing it. While the Duramax may someday be accepted by the general buyer it has yet to spark a great desire and you can't put all the chips on that one. I agree it should be offered but I expect GM will offer the TT turbo that is coming in the trucks at some point. They have the power they have a flat strong torque curve and Ford has proven if you build it people will come and even pay $1000 more to save one gallon. Also the new DI V8 will improve MPG and Torque so it will still be viable but any MPG even one MPG will be taken any way they can get it. It will be interesting to see what GM did to cut weight on the next Gen 1/2 ton. Some are saying it will take a large drop in weight but give up nothing in towing or hauling. This should really be a help and will only ge step one to the future as they find ways to cut more weight. The Cost vs pounds will be difficult in the trucks as the price prevents ease as it can be done in a higher price Caddy.
  20. The Suburban will survive but it may only get a 3/4 ton rating. The regs are more lax with the larger trucks. I would like to see the Travere get more Explorer sized. To me at times it is almost too long. The Nox is perfect for passengers as it has a lot of passenger room and there is no back seat in class bigger. Now they so need to address cargo space. I would like to see it get lighter and add a little more cargo room in the back. If they could move the side panels out more or make the floor deeper. The Edge has a good popular size but I feel Chevy could beat Ford on price since the Edge is already about $10K more than an similar optioned Nox. As for the Flex that one will die soon. Sales are tanking with higher gas prices, the cost to buy and the new Explorer coming out. 40K-50K is just too much for a station wagon. Unless it is the CTS V. GM needs to better lineup all their models to better compete. Being the odd man out sometimes works but other times hurts. The Nox and Terrain are two that worked out but too often it hurts, GM's Ace is value as many of their new models are class leading or near class leading and often cheaper or better optioned than the compitition.
  21. The way that SUV's will get more MPG is people will buy smaller. they will remain tall but they will either cram a 3rd seat in the back or just go with 5 people. This is why you see 10 times as many smaller SUV's than the Traverse of late. Since gas is up most larger SUV's sit on the dealer lots over the 79 day average but the smaller ones are 30-40 days and in many cases less. I found this out when we bought our smaller one. we had located 3 like what we wanted locally here and in less than a week they all were gone. Even the ones that were close were sold. This may change again if gas get back to $2.50 again but for now the market regulates itself. The key is for GM to have something for each segment that is solid and have inventory for what is selling. The crazy part is 1 MPG makes a big difference to many buyers. Just look at Ford F150 now selling the same or more V6 half tons now than V8's at less money and only 1 MPG is the difference. High gas prices do strange things. As for stling flash Chevy lost much of that starting in the 50 and 60's. The 58 Chevy started it and it ended by 62 when the chrome went away. Chevys have a history of being stylish but understated. The 70 Monte Carlos is a prime example vs the 69-70 GP. I think we will find the bar being missing will do fine. So far the greatest comments from non GM people I have seen were about the gold Bow Tie. Many would like to see the color change.
  22. The new nose is cleaner and addresses the complaints of many non GM fans of the center bar. To me it is the same change from 1970 Chevelles to the 1972 Chevelle. There is a lot of heritage if both grilles and from what I see History repeats. While I am not a big fan of this vehicle I see this as an improvment for those it is intened to appeal too. I still like the Arcadia better. The non Denali one. If they put the new viberating Cadillac seats in it they could increase the number of female buyers for the segment. LOL!
  23. Chevy needs a small SUVbut I don't think this one is the ticket. It is just a little too close the the Encore in shape and style. GM has done a pretty good job of platform sharing and if the do this one as a Chevy and the Encore one of them will lose. They need to change the body more like they did on the Cruse and Verano. St least give it a little different shape. While this is different it is not enough.
  24. I hear this is the 2025 Tahoe. I really don't think this one will be here. Too close to the Buick. But in this day and age they never seen to find enough SUV's to sell anymore.
