  1. If they plan to use this car for more than one model it will have a name and not just be a Super Sport. If there is a V6, wagon and ute the SS would only be applied to the top powertrain and not all models. Well we do know we will get the sedan and the rest would be easy to add but till they are in the show rooms I will not get too excited. A lot can happen in 3 years. Now if Mark replaces Dan I think the odds of it finally happening will improve to a safe degree with Marks love for these cars.
  2. Never mind you are not getting the full concept I would have in mind. I am thinking of something more in line with the Penske Ferrari dealer in Vegas with elements like Mclaren is using by installing real F1 cars at in their dealers. The dealer would be more upscale and have a visual draw to it. Even some elements from the Corvette Museum in KY or the Peterson Museum. I want a Museum like quality but with a more luxury feel. The example of the couch is only to show you can have reprduction items crafted to help style the building that would look and represent Cadillac that a GM dealer can afford. I would not put that couch in the dealer but I would comisson items that would fit into the proper decore. Just doing a Art Deco style alone would have little effect on the non DTS lovers. This is the time to think out side the box. Look around at what many upscale people are doing to their ultimate garages and you will see what they are intune with. While I don't have an issue with some Modern Art Deco that is just not enough.
  3. You guys really have little clue to some of the more recent retail trends. Summit Racng has built several retail stores that features auto themes with real race cars. The one here in Akron featers vintage front engine rails, Pro mod car, Several NASCAR Stock cars and Swamp Rat 32 Top fuel car hung from the Ceiling. We also have several Quaker Steak and Lube Resturants here that feature many different cars and old petro items. The one in Sharon has everything from a Harley Collection, To a Vette on the ceiling in the Vette Room To a Mario Andretti Indy car on the wall in the Gasoline Alley room. They also have the side of one of the old Castrol XJR9 IMSA racers. they even have a 37 Chevy on the rack with tables under it with many vintage auto items all around. There is even more there. The One in Canton has a Miller Stock car, Corvettes, Indy car in the entry ares with a Funny car going up the wall. The way I see it a Cadillac dealer styled with many items from their past. I would not do it too way out but a tail that is a exact repo is easy to find would be nice or even have a old restored classic Caddy in the Showroom. Even something like a 67 in perfect condition would add to the experience. The photo above from Tempe is a good example of what could be done. Note a Chrysler Dodge dealer here has done this with some old muscle cars like an old Challanger parked next to a new Challanger in the show room. They also were able to get some of the more famous race cars from Dodge's past and have them on display. We even had a Goodyear store here in the mall with a real Indy car and even Walker Evens Power Wagon on display for nearly 20 years. They also had Richard Pettys Superbird on display. All I am saying is it would be nice to display parts and cars of Cadillacs better times in the past. It could be done tastefully. As for the Cadillac Ranch in TX.. Like it or not it is considered a Icon. Storys have been written about it, Songs have been sung about it, Movies have been made around it. No matter if you approve of it or not it has created a lasting image in American history and even if Cadillac vanished from the market in a year it would still carry the legacy. The Idea today is to make retail locations more than just a retail location. You want to make them something that will draw people inside to see what you have. If you do it right they will come from miles. While I would tone down what Summit and The Lube have done I would want to make the show room a draw no matter what cars you have in it. That is what the Hard Rocks do. They have ok food and they are normally crowded but most will make you wait in line to get a seat as people are drawn in. That is what I would like to see in a new dealer.
  4. That's pure idiocy. You don't desecrate past iconic product by taking a chainsaw & making a wallhanging out of it. If you mock yourself, why shouldn't everyone else?? What would be more sensible & cater to the lux crowd AND the marque's heritage could be, say, large reproductions of factory art, AKA: You seem to be too old to understand. First off you would use a fiberglass repo as only an idiot would think to use a chain saw on a real car. Value and weight would be off the chart. Second many items are reproduced today into wall fixtures, furniture and items of art. It is all in what you like and want. The fact is you want to attract younger buyers you have to think younger art. While I love art deco myself it is not real big with the under 50 crowd. Might look around in the high end magazines that cater to home auto items and garage items for the big spender. These guys spend thousands of dollars for Mustang Pool tables and 57 Chevy love seats. A table made out of Auto Items also are prized. Our one division at work makes a lot of money from rich guys paying much for high mark up items like this. One mans mocking is another mans Man Cave. While the German dealers are industrial and technical like the new Benz dealer I pass daily the American one should be well more American. I deal with people in Asia and Europe at work that love the things American so I see it even playing well overseas. A little art deco from the 30's Cadillac is fine but they should use a little styling too from one of the most remembered eras the 50's. Even the Cadillac Ranch is well know and liked world wide.
  5. Ok we are about a month in and here is the latest report. The Terrain has been great so far. The wife loves it and has enjoyed it as much or more than any car since her SSEI. The Terrain has returned mostly 19 MPG around town and we have yet to really take a trip in it. The dealer got me the cargo package that gave me the rear cargo coverm, net and folding cargo box. The wife looked at the box as why do I need that but I now see it open and used often. It really comes in handy keeping things from rolling around in the cargo area. It is a very clever and simple design and is something that they should just include. I am impressed with the chome wheels. The composit plastic chome faces have a much better finish than my past GM chome wheels. They should hold up well but time will tell. I am not sure if many know this but GM has moved to these cover that are bonded to the wheels that provide a much more durable long term finish. Most GM chome wheels often would go to hell in 5 year depending on how they were cared for. The qulity of my wheels on the GTP were horrid and we went through two sets under warranty. I had to coat them on the inside with Rust Bullet to prevent them from flaking and corrsion. The new radio Itellilink system has been flawless. It works well and links with our I phones with no effor. I can go into the I pod just with the wheel controls. The only gripe we have is with On Star as they have yet to figure out how to link to our car. The issue is with them and not the Terrain. We are up to free 6 months now and I expect or will ask for one year by the time they figure it out. The only real flaw we have found with the vehicle is it should have had AC vents in the console. The rear has little air flow from under the seats and if you turn it up to get to the back the front seats freeze. The climate control is great to have again We missed it from the SSEI. The ride is quiet and smooth but not floaty. I do wish it had a little more on center feel but it is not that big of a deal. The brakes are eye opening. I read that the Terrain will stop with in 6 feet of a Porsche Boxster and I can say I think it will. The pedal is not as firm but then this is not a sports car either. The 3.0 has never let us wanting for more power. It does well and moves the Terrain in a proper mannor for this type vehicle. The Transmission is smooth but it loves to shift fast and just get into MPG mode fast. It is common to see the tranny kick down 3 gears to get up a steep hill. The 3.6 will help with more torque and should be nice. The 3.0 is good and the 3.6 will be better but for the cheaper price we paid for the 3.0 and to get the color we wanted that will be discontinued next year we do not regrett not waiting. The Terrain sales also have taken off. I think I may not be the only one this stylng has grown on. It is just good GM did two different vehicles in the same class to take advantage of styling taste. I hope this just continues with the rest of all the models. I did add floor liners and I did put the clear headlight sheilds on. After the GTP and seeing how pitted the head lights got on it I put them on all my cars. I have gotten pretty good installing the 3M material. I figured the Terrain headlights would look like crap if I had not installed them as the are large clear and with the projection light not cheap. We do love the power rear hatch. It is a real help with you hands full. So far we are very happy with the purchase. Is there other small things we would change. Yes but I would say that even if I had a ZR1. There will always areas to improve. I will report back in about a month with how things are going and will report if we have any quality issues. So far other than the issue with Onstar the vehicle was delivered with zero defects. Note too I have just learn on a GM tech site that the Intellilink system will be able to be upgraded by the owner. GM will have updates available that you will be able to down load into a flash drive or using a lap top. This was what I had hoped to see. This will let the owner upgrade to adapt the system to new technologies and add new features as time goes on. Some things may require a dealer visit but those will be limied. This will be similar to like the free upgrades of OS on I phones and other smart phones. I wonder how long till some figures out how to add things GM has not considered.
  6. Make the new dealer more hip and stick the tail of a 59 out of the front or roof like a Hard Rock Cafe LOL! The one in Maui has a near mock up of a custom 59 over the bar. I would love to see them incorperate some thing like even a mock up of the CTSV race cars or other image builders.
  7. Anyone paying attention that a V6 may be on for 2015 and the wagon and ute car being considered on the Zeta II. I know we have been throught this before but with Mark running the NA market and chapter 11 issue now behind they may have a chance. This may be why we are seeing Chevy push a limited edition sedan in NASCAR. It kind of make sense now.
  8. Yeeea....because GM *wants* to lose money on their trucks... The Gen V V8 will be in there, yea. Which V6 it will get is still a little uncertain. Some sources indicate it might actually launch with the ancient 4.3L V6. Others think the 3.6L will go in. There's also the matter of the 3.0L turbo V6 currently being worked on. Though most seem to think the 3.0L T won't be ready in time for launch. That is what I have pretty much have heard. The V8 will be the DI and the V6 will be the 3.6 with the Turbo coming later. I have heard the EcoBoost 150 sales not only suprised Ford but GM too. Depending how the elections go left I suspect GM will use the 1/2 ton and push the V6 and V6 turbo. Then they will push a light 3/4 ton to catch the breaks the heavier trucks will get in MPG. Now if the elections go a lilttle righ I see them getting the breaks they need to keep a V8 in the 1/2 tone a little more easier. At this point I don't think GM really knows which way they will go after 2017 right now. THey want the goverment to review where they will be then but the present energy people do not want to talk to them. If there are new people in there that could change. Either way we will still have large trucks. Too much money to be made or lost here.
  9. Commodore means little to most Americans. I would include it in the possibilities but I would rate it as a low chance of beig used. I had considered Laguna but it was not real popular. I had considered Bel Air SS I like the sound and it would fit with the Caprice in a way as in the past Chevy used different names in the same lime like 210. Biscayne Bel Air etc. Chevelle is close to the Malibu but the Chevelle name was never used on small FWD car. Nova is too cheap of a name to use on a $40K car. I hate to say it but Monte Carlos connection to NASCAR is strong and it has been a big name for Chevy for years. Adding two doors did not hurt the Challanger like many thought and adding two doors to a powerful great handling sports sedan should do well. As much as I would love to see an older name not used in along time like Bel Air I thing it may get Monte Carlo in the end. Just a hunch. You can forget Lumina, Cutlass, GTO or any other division name. GM looks like they are keeping a little retro in all their new cars. Most seem to use a old name or like the impala updated older emblems.
  10. New name can be taken different ways. Is it a new name never used before or is it a new name that is not being currently used. It could go either way. We only know for sure is it already has one per GM, it is just unknown to us.. To me it matters little what it is called as I have no hang up it has to be a old or new name mor the number off doors it has. I just want it built. Note just some trivia. The Fiero name was originally the Peguses and was changed so late for some unknown reason today to Fiero so late was the change that the emblem kept the Flying Horse in it. GM fell back to a name Fiero that they claimed ment Proud in Itallian and chosen outr of a book in a late night meeting. But that did not explain the use of the name in 1a 968 show car the Firebird Fiero where it ment FIrebird Aero Concept. In other words the one name was rejected and they pulled out one they owned the rights to and semi applied a meaning to it.
  11. Have to disagree with you, the V series should always be luxury Performance, no just Luxury. Otherwise you dilute the Brand. People think of V as performance with a touch of Luxury and that is where it should stay be it having a Turbo 4 or Turbo v6 I am sorry I was not awake whe I typed this. I should have stated the V should be more Luxury and sports. In my mind the V should be the car that is no options and the full load of features performance and luxury. The Turbo can be performance and ala cart luxury. The V6 can be more Luxury and ala cart Performance. I hope this clears up my intentions now that I am awake. LOL!
  12. The Turbo will be priced over the Buick GS. To be honest the Trubo loaded up may be pretty close to the V6 price. I see the Turbo getting the more sporting parts and the Vs being more luxury. Thst is till the the V6 V series comes along.
  13. To be honest it was under powered, it had a crappy interior and was over priced for what you got. I think after he got it he was disapointed in it. Lots of quality issues and not cheap to repair.
  14. I have see many of the cheap 3 series and Benz that sell to wantabe owners who can't afford the full package. These are the seekers of image that just do not have the funds to provide leather. Besides how many times I remember the old 190 Benz advertised for the low $30K range that I would still choose a loaded GM car over at the same price. I had a buddy a while back who for a daily driver chose a vinyal seat hatch 3 series. You may remember the one with no back end. I called it the half ass BMW and we made fun of it all the time. But his other car was a Viper and he was still in collage so he deserved it. LOL!
  15. Not so much in the higher level cars but in the entry level cars yes! The ATS is the gateway car to to win the general public. BMW, Benz and most other Luxury MFG offer a base car that is offered but seldom sold. Cadillac did this with the CTS originally and few people bought it. You need a car that has the marketing price to get the people in and then you show them the goods in the car that they can get for only $95 more a month. We will not see this pricing with the flagship car and I would supect the next CTS will also not offer a ultra low price base model.
  16. They will offer an entry ATS and while it will be nice it will be pretty basic. I see this intro model to get people to look but the normal price will be much closer to $40K by the time you get the better bits like a Turbo 4 etc. The ATS V will be closer to $50K. The price of this car will cover a large area. The Base car will be more for marketing vs sales as we will see few people buy the base car. It will be available if you want one but most buyers will be spending more.
  17. We will see the race car soon as they will begin testing it shortly. I assume the street car may show up at a show this year even before this years NY show. This is one they will have a hard time hiding since the track testing will leave it out in the open. They still can hide the name but some of the body details will be shown even in primer. Might note too I have noticed Jimmy johnson Lowes car has adopted the old Chevelle SS Stripe. Also he used a special GM Color at Kansas that was used ont he Chevelle and Camaro. Note I corrected my early AM typo post for those who tend to be overtly immature.
  18. GM has the car line going to where it needs to be. They still need a few tweeks to the CTS and they needs a few more models like the flagship and other cars to fill out the line up. But still the first real step is to get the ATS and the new CTS in the market and really push them. They will be the foundation that Cadillac will be built on from this point forward. The Dealers for the most were not a major problem for service. Most that I have had to deal with were top notch. The buildings needed upgraded and like stated a few still need to upgrade or removed. The way I see Cadillac from there forward is like what I see planting grass seed in a new lawn. We did a lot of building last year and I had to regrade the soil plant the seed and fertilize it. Now I just need to keep feeding it water and more improvments with fertilizer to keep it's growth in the right direction. If neglected it would wither. GM is doing the same now. They have preped the base with great service and now just need to properly tend it to let it grow. With the right mic of care the division image will grow with the public and the right mix of products people want they will seek them out. The quality and technology will help sell these people cars. GM can do all that is needed but it will still take time for the division to earn the trust and interest of the public. It is easier to create a new company like like Lexus vs trying to reverse the image of the sins of the past by companies like Cadillac or Lincoln. The way I see it Cadillac is well on the way and as long as they keep this path they will do well. Now I see Lincoln they are still at risk as they still have yet to show us any product worth consideration. With the planned investment they will need to change this or they will fail. To be honest in this segment I really don't see a single solid player who will dominate in the future. Benz and BMW have done some wonderful things but they also have shown they can fail in product and quality. the Aisan companies can show they can play it too safe. This I feel is the opening here Cadillac can show they are a player with the right product and qaulity. But again they have to earn that trust of the public as you can not design it or engineer it into the car. Only Time and proof you have solid quality product can earn it for you.
  19. I expect GM to keep the price to be just under the 3 and 5 with the new ATS and CTS. Also I expect the base ATS 4 to be less than any CTS but the price will climb up to higher levels once the options are added. I look for a wide price range on this one from ATS 2.5 to ATSv
  20. It kind of reminds me of my one Mangers cars. He has an 68 Ram Air III car that was a drag car most of it's life. While it was repainted and gone through it still retains most of the original parts. The interior is perfect. He took POCI Gold with it and it now sits in a Museum as he starts a new Pontiac Project. http://www.highperformancepontiac.com/features/hppp_1011w_1968_ram_air_ii_pontiac_firebird/index.html
  21. Yes NASCAR did make a change. The way I saw it explained by NASCAR was it would be 2014 model but it would be available in early 2014. In other words the race car will hit the track in Feb at Daytona and the public will get the cars in Mach? The time span was not much different. It will be like the 2004 GP roll out in March of 2003. As for name that is still a toss up as nothing solid has been given. A web site predicting the future can be changed easily. It will have a SS tag along with another name and at this point no one outside GM seems to know if it is old or new. The only thing we do know is that Al called it the SS Peformance Sedan and that they had the name chosen at the least a year and a half ago when he spoke of it. The name mystery is as deep here as the I Phone 6 release date mystery.
  22. And yet, the CTS still has a plasticy interior, and Cadillac can't manage to get any sales in Europe. And Cadillac is still drifing around 5th place in sales in their home market. If Mercedes is so flawed, it should be easy for Cadillac pass them by and make a $100k car that sells 75,000 units globally per year, and get 500k sales out of the CTS and ATS. The C-class interior is just as plasticy. Cadillac will only get 500k in sales from the CTS if they turn into Mercedes McFleetwhore and flood the taxicab market in Europe with them. C-class and E-class taxis here are as common as Crown Vics in the states. If that is what you want of Cadillac, you are insane. NO NO NO, NO FLEET SALES!!! The last thing GM needs to do is Whore out the CTS! That is why we have the XTS! No matter what they are made of or how they are built Cadillac needs to restore it's precieved image and branding back to what it used to be. While they still need to build the best car in class they still need the public to accept them as the standard. As Toyota has proven with the Camry the best cars is not always seen by the public as the best car.
  23. Lets not get too far ahead yet. Just expect a more powerful DI V8 in a RWD sedan. If things go well we may see a AWD special edition later on. The TT Turbo may also appear down the road. For now I expect them to keep it simple for the first year or two and then I would expect special more limited edtitions like Holden does. This is more an image car than volume. They will work to keep it fresh. The idea that it is going to NASCAR says a lot of what they expect this car will do for Chevys image. Also note if they are going to the effort of using it in NASCAR there will be no last min plugs pulled like on the Elcamino etc. GM is already commitied to run the car in that series and will have to build it to make it legal. So even if you hate NASCAR the series is going to do some good in locking the car into production.
  24. The way I look at it is they establish this car as a image model that will show a profit even in low volume it will reflect onto the other cars. As time goes on the Zeta will be replaced at some point and with Holden and Chevy becoming one the styling will be adjusted more and more to reflect both brands. The car we get soon will not remain the same for very long. I would not be suprised if a expaned Alpha sedan may be based on this model at some point. Or they could take the new Omega and make it smaller so it could share the cost of the flag ship Cadillac with the SS model and even the Poiice Caprice. Cadillac will need a dance partner on the flag ship. The platform may be shared but little else would be. Lets face it the Zeta while not as old as the W body is becoming the old platform at GM. If there are enough sales and demand here and down under it would justify the demands of the supporters within GM to do a new RWD platform to replace it in the future. While the Zeta can improve a little more like the W was there are limits on how much. A new car would be like the Alpha with few limits.
