  1. I really do not see any radical changes coming here in this truck. I see many improvments and some weight loss. The engines will be the biggest change I see. I also see this truck not being around near as long as each company will have to continue to make many changed to meet the regs by 2025
  2. I would not be suprised to see another Alpha for Buick or Chevy down the road. For right now the ATS, CTS and Camaro are the only ones we know about. There was talk about the Corvette at one point but it was never centered on the C7. Now they are already working on the C8 too but it is too early to tell if the Alpha or parts of it would come into play as I would thing they are just in the first stages of their plans. At that point they are normally looking at many things and most never happen.
  3. ATS has nice power bulge and lowered fenders, lots of details. The Camo shots on the CTS really at this time seem just a little plain in comparo to how nice the ATS was sculpted. Give it time and the details will appear. We go throught this on every camo car with incomplete interior. I remember others saying the same thing on the Malibu and coming Impala.
  4. I Expect the dealer to still come done add any special offers to the price. The Cruze is selling as it is so I do not expect any low ball price. But to be fail the dealers will drop the price more. I know every time they advertise Employee pricing you still can get a lot more off of even that price.
  5. Well then the camo is working Let them uncover it and add the trim and it will transform. I also expect it to grow but only in a few inches here and there. Cadillac tried to match the 3 size with the ATS and I expect that is all they will do with the CTS vs the 5. They have to give the ATS some room as two nearly same size cars with one cheaper would really hurt CTS sales.
  6. My take on this is one if is good PR. I also see it as a way to entice Saturn people in as they loved the no haggle pricing. I Also see that this is a good way to lower the price of a car with out the incentive package and it makes it look less like you are trying just to dump the remaining 2012 models. It is a more see we stand behind our cars and we will make it easy to buy. Translation is we could offer incentives and look like we are just dumping left overs. I would say this may help with many buyers as many of the new Chevys are already selling well and about 60% of the buyers have little idea on how to properly research a cars price and know how to work a good deal. It is amazing where I see people on forums bragging how they got a good deal and paid 2-3 thousand more than I did. As for returns I expect there will be few. In the past when they had deals like this few people ever return a car and generally it may have been problem related.
  7. I like to think they are right sizing this for the market.GM often tries to set the class size only to be left as the odd one out as either too large or too small to compete on equal ground. The key here is while the car may grow in size it will either lose weight or not change much with the Alpha under it. As for the styling they are using the type that Lutz' s set while he was there full time. It is still very much A & S but with out the very hard lines that gave it that full on Oragami look. While some liked it other found it polarizing in not a good way. I think the ATS shows they have hit a good medium ground that should still appeal to the A & S fans while drawing in new fans that felt the hard edges were too much. The one thing we all need to understand is this car is going to evolve into a little more Luxury roll but will still not be of a boating nature as the STS fell into. Cadillac is working hard to match and beat BMW in size and content so I would expect this car to be nothing less than similar in size and performance to the 5 series. The Omega will fill the 7 series void and may even supass it. What will be telling are the models based on these cars. The ATS coupe sounds to be on track again vs what was reported. Also what will they do with the CTS. The things they may do could be interesting.
  8. In some cases they do leak what they want to show. But in this case it was just a screw up. GM has pretty much gotten to the point they do not show much of anything till they are a little closer to release anymore. After seeing the drawings last fall that pretty much nailed the design this photo gives the nose a little more depth. It looks like the nose is a little more Ferrari like with a Corvette tone. As to how much there is to see here is based on how much of the real car you have seen. The Jalopnik drawing I tried to post here pretty much told the tale that was confirmed by the winter test photos. This one here just give the idea on more of the details on the real body shape. Not a big deal but if you add it up it gives some idea on how the body will changes will look. The greater changes will be from the doors back.
  9. That is the Cruze I saw but the one I saw was Red. It looked like it could be done as a trim option this fall.
  10. The Sonic was like this one. The Red Cruze was similar to the Z spec Cruze but look very production like. It looked lowered just a little but still ready for production. The wheels looked a little larger but the car still carried the RS badge. They did paint the hood roof and deck lid flat black and it has a larger spoiler. I am assuming this may be messing around for some kind of package to counter the SRT Dart. The Dart was only 100 feet away.
  11. We had only a choice of a cheap back pack or cooler. I would have rather had the shirt. Toyota has famed Car painter and artist Kenny Youngblood. It was cool as we got to talking and he asked me if I knew someone I used to work at my company and it turns out we both knew him well. He was doing personalized drawings for anyone who stopped by but I think many people had no idea who he was. He had painted some of the most well know race cars in history. It was a shame to see his Parkinsons is getting worse. I guess he does little painting anymore. Anything with Blood Done It is starting to be worth some money with collectors.
  12. I didn't think so and that is why I did not bother in the first place. .
  13. You missed the whole point as it was not about the cars on display [hence no photo's]. It was about Chevy is back at the track with the new handle for their performance line after being missing for a long time. They were handing out performance related items with the new Chevy Performance based logo and info on performance create engine and COPO hand outs. While it may not be a great bomb blast it is interesting to see they are back since the new Camaro just hit the track a few races ago an it may prove to be interesting to see where GM takes the Chevy Performance brand. It has been a few years since Chevy or even Pontiac did anything at the track in the way of performance outside a Daytona series race or NASCAR. This could be just the begining of a whole new program that may add up to something in the future. I found it interesting how they melded the Chevy brand and the GM Performance Brand together. Knowing what GM Performance means when applied to a production car this could just be the start of some good things and a real performance program for Chevy under one badge like SVT and SRT. The thing to note is their new logo did not have Cheverolet or Chevy Performance but the bow tie and performance. Interesting take to avoid the Chevy vs Cheverolet thing with the anal retentive crowd on either side? I just thought it was nice to see GM back to promoting performance at the track where they have been gone for too long now. I also will find it interesting to see where they will take it now they have money to promote it better.
  14. The Sonic and Cruze were nice but not nice big enough deal to take their photo's in the friggin heat. The ZL1 and Z06 you have seen. In fact the Sonic was one GM plastered all over around SEMA time. I can take a photo of the back pack they gave me is you want? The point of the thread is that Chevy may be using a new way to promote performance and we should be watching for what they do.
  15. I attended the NHRA race this week at Summit Motorsports Park at Norwalk Ohio this wheekend. Thank God for Snap On's VIP passes to their hospitality area as it was 101 degrees and 117 heat index. Anyways while I was there Chevy has again appeared at the NHRA races with a new display with a ZL1 Z06 100 Ann Vette, A modified Sonic with racing graphics and lowered with a set of wheels. Finally a Cruze RS with flat black hood, roof and deck lid with a Camaro like hocky stick stripe down the side. While not a real performance option it made for a refreshing look of a modern car with hints of the past. The one thing I noted is they were now promoting a new tag it is a Gold Bow Tie with the GM Performance Division "Performance" behind the Bow Tie. They then under it have Vehicles - Parts - Racing. It is like they took the GMPD logo and changed it to Chevy. We may want to look to see if they do anything similar with the other divisions with their performance marketing. The new Pro Stock Camaro's look good but other than the headlights I don't see anything stock anymore. One of the last classes in pro racing to use a stock body shell is now a long gone memory. To be honest it was gone with the G6 already. Anyways I would start to look for more Chevy Racing promotions at the track. Nascar has already had it but I will expect a larger presents at the Indy car/ALMS race at Mid Ohio in September.
  16. That sounds right but they also stated at something like 60 MPH in a average inch per reaction rate to put it into more relatable terms. It was pretty impressive. This is getting closer to the Active suspension GM tried to do years ago with Lotus. Like many of their ideas like the 8 6 4 they know were it is going but just do not have all the technology yet. This should show many where the Volt may be in the future once technology catches up.
  17. Ferrari is using the GM system I love the Cadillac ad that points this out. GM is the lead in this kind of system and not just a small lead either. The key here is this system can make a fat man like the ZL1 lap as fast as the more powerful and lighter Shelby but also give a great ride. So GM is using it to cover their sin of weight. Just wait till the weight is gone and see what this system can provide on a lighter car. Also you do not have to be a supercar or muscle car to use this system. It is being used on the XTS as a system that can make the car ride as well as any Cadillac but still have handling that does not leave the driver wondering what way the wheels are pointed. I think this will suprise many how Cadillac can provide a cloud like ride on a non V car but still not have the horrid handling or wallowing traits often found on cars the sacrifice handling for ride. Now they can have the ride with a very confident handling package. It may not be tuned for the ring but it will be more inline with the market today in handling. The GM 3rd edition on the ZL1 is the fastest one yet and they have managed to find a way to demagnatize the fluid to make reactions twice as fast. If I recall the adjustment rate is in the range of every inch or inch and a half of road covered at speed. If someone remembers the exact measument of adj please correct me but it was impressive.
  18. I think many fail to remember that the Prius has a slow start up before it became a poster child for the all that must be done to save the planet car. Now if they can just work on the price I think they will be a much more common sight on the roads. I see them here nearly daily anymore and I can't say that for the Leaf. In fact I see more ZR1 Vettes around here than Leafs. In fact this month Zero Leafs and 1 ZL1 Camaro and about a dozen Volts. While it is not my dream car I could live with one if I had too. It would make a great beat around town car or work car but I would need a Camaro or Vette in the Garage to have some fun. But I would say the same if I owned a Cruze too.
  19. I get the feeling we will see more and more difference in body an interior between the GMC models and Chevy. But there are limits to what you can do with a box unless you go all Ram on it. To be honest the Ford, Chevy and GMC all share a lot in stying.
  20. Well I didn't really mean to compare the GT-R to a Mustang or Camaro, just saying that Magnetic shocks may be good, but there are still better suspensions out there. So Cadillac might as well use them like crazy because at least it sets them apart from the mainstream cars and gives them something unique. Well you did compare. Ok what other suspension can make a 4100 pound car run lap tiimes as fast as a much lighter sports car and do it with less power? The Camaro already has a good suspension and with the Magnetic shocks it becomes world class inspite of it over weight high center of gravity. Cadillac is already using them and we will see more use thorugh out GM on the top models in many classes over time. It already took the older Cadillac CTSV into the 7's at the ring. Imagine what a 800 pound lighter ATS could do with a V series engine package added to the car. The nice thing is the Magnetic Shocks on the XTS show that they are able to provide a great ride and still give you a confident handling car vs the floaty boat. THese are not just all about max handling they also can provide a good ride and a proper luxury experience.
  21. I agree that GM does not use Magnetic ride control enough in their car's. They could lower the cost by using it in everything and giving people quality driving machines. It will find it's way to more and more cars as time goes on. It will be like Anti Lock brakes where it will show up on the Cadillacs and Vette and as the price comes down it will find its way to other cheaper performance models in time. I would expect to see it as an option on the coming Super Sport. The parts are already on the Cadillac and will migrate to the Lacrosse and Impala. The key here is Ford Chrysler and many other makes really haver nothing yet like this and GM is already to stage III with this system. Ford is scrambling now to put one on the Shelby.
  22. The fact is the Camaro will lose aprox 600-700 pounds with the Alpha. It will gain power and keep the Magnetic ride. All Cadillac cars will offer some kind of Magnetic option As of now the CTS, XTS and ATS all have an option suspension with it. I suspect at some point we will see it in the SRX too. The Trucks I have not heard any thing here. As for the GT-R???? Why would you even mention this one with Muscle cars? It is more than suspensions as it has a lower center of gravity and is a sports car not a Pony car. The car to compare it too is the Z06 or ZR1.
  23. I think the key is they plan to keep investing into these kinds of cars till batteries improve. The power cells are key and at some point with enough time and money being invested someone will solve the issue. Even back in the day they knew how to make a light bulb but few could make one that did not burn out in a short period of time. Edison and others worked on it for a good while till better materials were found to solve the issue. Save idea applies here. The key to keeping this market going is if they can even sell limited numbers of these cars it will give more companies reason to invest money into development into new materials for these cars. No market no investment it is that simple.
