  1. The GMC Canyon can't be that far behind as the sheet metal will be all that is different. It is already released in other markets and soon to be release here in the Chevy so I do't expect more than a few months to a year behind the Colorado. Also you can check the Colorado out soon and see if it has the underpinnings you would approve of. It takes more than a set of wheels and the V8 to fix all that is wrong with the present truck. You would be better off with a full size for just a little more. I would expect a Terrain, Acadia like nose with Terrain Fenders. It would give it kind of a Hummer Light look. I saw a rare H3T the other day and thought then that would have made a nice GMC. Lutz I think is right that he made a mistake on not putting the Hummers as a model of GMC vs a Division. They could have called them Jimmys.

I would love to see more base models saved but it is just not a sound investment. Too many people forget how many of these car their really were. Even the small V8 like a 307 is lost to history in many cars as they seldom are saveds. I own my original Fiero yet and I have made some changes to it and most were done with parts that have not been available since the early 90's. I at one time was rare because I was modified but today I am average as most Fiero's have seen changes. It is becoming a rare thing to find a stock and I mean all stock 84 in good condition. When you do often someone buys it for a low price and slaps a LS engine in it. One day a fully stock Fiero may be a rare thing outside some GT's and pace cars as the value of a stock base coupe is nothing. Also all original cars are taken for granted by many anymore. Paint was never as good on many of the restored cars we see today. Also the fit of the parts were never as good. Most of these older cars were flawed in many areas but it did not seem bad as they all were that way. It is like when I took the 81 Camaro to the Camaro show you could see the stark changes from 100% factory showroom original to a restored model. There is no way I could compete in the show even in stock class unless they considered the originality of the car. The paint was factory like new but would have killed me along in scoring. This is why so many clubs are looking for survivor cars and treat them with respect. I would love to see more people restore cars back to original flaws and all as a reminder of how things really were.

My dad owned a 1968 Chevelle Concouse. This was the top of the line luxury model and had all the bells and whistles on it including some rare options today. But because it was a 4 door hard top it is not worth today of the cost to restore it. The only reason some are attracted to cars like a 5 door 57 Chevy is they can no longer afford a coupe. Sorry but precieved reality is much different vs what people really drove back then. Take for example the 57 Ford was the Camry of the day and today even the coupes are cheap as no one really wants one and they were not all that flashy of a car. Back in the day it out sold the Chevy. Same for the 58 Ford as it was not what I would call attractive but it sold well but few people will touch them today. I see it too often guys like to cherry pick their memories or their ideas [if they were not around] for the reality that really took place. Watching old TV and movies show you how many of the cars back then were more than not the base model cars and a 4 door not much different vs the plain old drab Impalas and Camrys that dominate the market today. The cars you see at car shows and museums today far from represent what was the average car back then. If i go by that I would think every large Chrysler has a 45 player under dash and every Tri Five Chevy had a V8 two doors and a tissue dispenser. The fact is every generation had their top of the line Bel Air Coupe/convert and CTSv coupe but most of what was purchased was the Delray/Biscayne and the CTS sedans. What we see restored today is seldom a good representation of what the reality of what the majority drove. As for todays cars there is a lot you still can do but in many cases why would you as you can buy more HP and hanling in many cars than you ever could in the past. I just read a story on how easy an upgrade on a HHR or most other midsize GM car to larger brakes. Change the rotor and the caliper carrier and you can increse the size of your rotors easily. Change the pads and it is a major improvment. All of it was done in his case for less than $150.

It seems that many remember the Bel Airs, 300's, Eldorado's and Sunliners but many forget the dowdy basic trasportation cars of the 50's and 60's. They had many generic cars back then that were baisc trasportation. They were the many inline 6 models with no chome and few restored today. Some there are none restored today as many have been forgotten. The fact is every generation has models that are forgotten and vanished as they were just not cars that stood out but did make up the majority of what was sold back then. I went to the Glenmoore Gathering of Significant Automobiles last week and field was filled with many great cars but most were cars the average person owned even back in the day. Today the collectors and the markets only restore and collect the special cars that seldom is made up of cars that the average Joe owned or drove. Seldom do you see a 53 Buick 4 door restored. or a 55 Cadlillac sedan. Seldom were these cars even seen in advertising as all we see are the top of the line models that often were cars that were the least sold because of price. Because of the over the top trim and the limited volume these are what collectors look for today, Even later the same is true on cars like the Superbirds. Back in the day few people bought them as the price was high and styling was over the top but today limited volume and the styling have taken them too collector status. I can remember many older people talking about the times back then where the 59 Cadillac was as loved as it is today. Many of the folks back then had little love for the 59 models where as the over the top stlyling today is prized. The 60's models were toned done for a reason. The fact is there is not one single year of cars where they are all classics. Generally a small portions and the top or over the top models are the few that remain in the hearts of collectors.
  5. Found one of these a few years ago in a junk yard. The only thing worth saving was the rood as the rest was left to rust beyond saving. We went over it all and it was a shame but nothing was left to save.
  6. The present truck not only withered but it just never caught on with the public for several reasons. It was just never the truck it should or could have been right from the start. I would wait as once you see the new truck I suspect you will be glad you did. While the wheels have helped the look of this truck it still has not addressed the many things the new truck will. The improvments of all the new GM products will be seen in the new truck.

I have to agree there is good and bad to all era's. The problem is too many selectively only remember what they want to remember and carry a distorted image in their mind of how it really was. Case in point the add pictured above. They all were much better than real life and that is how too many remember it. I have a large collection of these GM ads from the 50's and 60's as I love the art and color. I used to cut them out of old life magazines and put them in a book.

I thought this web site was about new products and future products? We need to start a nostalgia section. I like the old cars too but.

    RUN BAMBI

You do know they use cornering lights in W VA to spot light deer. They think of them as a hunting option.
  10. I would wait or you will be wishing you had. The new Canyon will improve on the old like the 08 Malibu did over the 07 Malibu. Better quality, better engines, better interior and better chassis. God knows I have tried to love the present truck but as soon as I get inside the love stops cold. I know many who would love to buy a small GM truck but have passed up or have regretted buying the present truck. They all hope GM can bring us something we all can love again.
  11. The Cruze is getting a much larger revamp than many expect and I wouls expect to see more engines or engine changes to come. We already know the Diesel is on the way for more MPG and I would expect more power, MPG and less weight. WHile some expect only a new front nose on the car many Americans forget that this was an old car when we got it so the changes I expect will be greater. Also the small cars are a help to sell more trucks but the new GM has to learn and live with the ability to compete and make money on the small car lines. The day may not be far off that they can rely on truck sales only to support them. With the middle east falling appart as it is this will effect the world oil markets and prices. We may see Euro like gas prices sooner than most thing. Besides the Cruze is not and has never been marketed as a performance car. MPG is what people look for here and comfortable drive. Sales have proves that it works. Do we really need a SS Cruze?
  12. What this is all about is more Power, more Torque, more Efficiency, less noise , less harshness and not have to redesign the entire engine to control cost. The engine is not broke but they do need to do some updates to keep with the other new engines on the market. In time they will have to move to a new engine and technologies but for now they need the major money in revamping the lines they have not gotten too since the Chapter 11.
  13. I have have some interest here if they do a 2.0T in a ZQ8 suspension package in a much higher quality package vs the present truck.
  14. The Canyon will have the new GMC face that started with the Terrain. Also I would not be suprised if they move to change the bodys more with new lines. I agree the changes between the GMC and Chevy will be much like the Terrain and Nox. That means a different look but not a lot of changes under the skin. You would be suprised at how most Nox and Terrain owners are not fooled by the different styling of the two vehicles. They know they are the same vehicle but the styling gives them an option to choose what they like. The Chevy has more appeal to the car buyers and the GMC has more of a truck look. What better way to reach a wider group of buyers.

    two point OH

I think many will be suprised how well this package will perform. Based on what I know of the 3.6 and the 2.0T the Turbo will be a much better engine for this car. The lack of an SS emblem will have many shocked at how this car will perform after they drive it. The less weight in the nose should help with handling and tossability of the car. Here is a video of the new Cadillac 2.0 and some of the changes they made to make this an even more refined and quiet engine. Check out the Video too. http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/?p=1055
  16. Well many people were not connected to the large trucks and did not know then as many do not know today. Unless you have hands on work with the old large V6 many are shocked today to see them and think it is a 348 or 409 till they see the size and the plugs in the intake manifold. You are one like many here that have feen close to these kinds of engines and topics when the average Joe has never seen one or even heard of it. As for the two blocks joined the look of the engine is obvious to why they think that. The average person is not an engineer and see the 4 valve covers, 2 intakes and 4 exhaust manifolds. They assume based on what they see. Also in the history of some of the limited or one off engines that have been made some have had cranks and blocks joined. Now mind you it's far from a good idea but limitations in funding on some projects will do this. I have seen several Small Bock Chevys joined that were up and running but they were mostly for limite running in show cars. The point is some think it is easy and a good idea to join blocks and when it looks like two engine it just damn will must be two engines. The bottom line is they should never assume. These V12 engines have provised some cool effects for street rods and the Blastoline special. They are reliable and make an impression and that is what show cars are all about. Sure you could put a Turbo V6 in a rod with tons of power but most of these cars are for the wow factor and the big engines stand out.
  17. The Terrrain was set to go to the Delta II with the Nox in 2014 has that changed? Could the Savana not be offered in the passenger anymore? I do not see many of them in this version anymore. They may leave the passenger version to Chevy and focus GMC on other things to set them appart? With the loss of the Ford Econoline vans the Amish might have to find a new Yoder toter.
  18. This is what I found from people outside the GM fish bowl.
  19. The trucks paid for the Gen V redo. I stopped calling it the SBC a long time ago.
  20. I find many never knew and many when they did know think they just joined the V6 engine if they even knew about the old V6. Car people today are not historians and often know are care little about the past. That does not suprise me as most have no idea about out past american history let alone who their elected senator is or what he has done. They feel that is what Google is for. Their first mistake is to not know things and ours is to assume they do.
  21. The Changes will be much more than just the skin for one. New engine, tranny interior, size and other new features. They are fixing the things that needed fixed for a lot time. This also is planned to be short term just to address the needs in the car as they are already working on the C8 with will bring the greatest changes we have seen since 1963. What changes/ The entired platform will change. It was either ther short term C7 fix or sit and wait a few more yeats with dropping sales for the new more radical changes. In this day and age they could not wait that long anymore.
  22. How many here remember this one or even knew they built this engine. I ran into one of these at work this week as guys are now using them for hot rods and pick up trucks. This was based on a the old GMC V6 bit it was a original casting for the block. It shared some parts from the V6 but it was a very limited and special engine. I was suprised how many people I know that never heard of this. http://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog/the-gmc-twin-six-v12-702-cubes-275-hp-at-2400-rpm-630-ft-lbs-at-1600-rpm/
  23. http://www.autoblog.com/2012/09/19/this-is-your-best-look-yet-at-chevys-c7-corvette/ GM has really gone to lenghts to hide this car with camo even on the dash. The things to take here are the seats are seen. Also the Steering wheel and the C7 is next to a ZL1 to better judge the size. There is a shot of the rear hatch that looks like a more flat rear hatch with no wrap around to the opening part. The large rear center pipes with the 4 outlets are a nice touch. We should see more soon as this is following the same patter of GM photo leaks and bring the cars out to tease.
  24. I would like to see GM team with a much stronger partner. Honda is a company that wants to remain independent but they are also facing the rising cost of development and will need to share in cost with someone at some point. GM and Honda if they could work together well enough to share things to help in development of drivelines and platforms it would help each. They both could share money and technology, Both are very strong in technology and would make each much better with new MPG products etc. Mazda really has little to offer. They once were on a roll but now have stallled out. If there was any value Ford would not have left the party. Mazda, Suzuki, and Isuzu really have little to offer. Companies like BMW and Honda are both companies that want to remain independent and each will need a partner. BMW is looking to be getting closer to Toyota for help in shared cost and development. Most of the other companies of any real value are already tied up. Honda is still free player but will need to share cost. The only real issue is has GM changed enough to make it possible for Honda to work easily with them. I know in the past the politics inside GM made it difficult for GM to deal with GM let alone an outsider. Lotus cars is a dead horse. Now Lotus technology is a group GM should have never sold. I would like to see them join closer again as GM still works with them. They did much of the work in the Eco Turbo and is one of the reasons this engine has been as trouble free as it has been. If GM did join them again or buy them they would need to make sure not to try to change them and let them operate as they have been.
