Industry News: Marchionne Comments On U.S. Fuel Economy Standards
aurora97 replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
If the government can legislate scientific change with actual fuel economy in automobiles, then why stop there? Why don't they pass a law to have the flux capacitor, warp drive, and cold fusion to become a reality? Enough with the snark, here are two points that need to be addressed. 1. The industry will invest a LOT of money to comply with this mandate but what ever solutions that are found will not be the final answer. 2. You cannot force the public to buy all options. Eventually a few or one solution will be determined by the market and there is just no way to predict in the next 10+ years what that might actually be. This will be the VHS v. Beta battle only at a much LARGER scale of risk.- 5 replies

The Ford GT is much more intense than the Acura NSX which makes it all the more gloriously insane. But at the end of the day, they are both cut from the same shape. The NSX is a lot more subdued.

I hate to be "that guy" but the thing looks a lot like the new Acura NSX that is featured on the same homepage. They both are going to be awesome cars, however they look like the same awesome car.

I think this may be more of an effort to secure the existence of Opel in the long run by shipping Buicks to the States. Looked what happened to Holden as they tried to ship Pontiacs and Chevrolets to the States. If all the reports are true then Holden closes shop in the next few years. I do not think that GM wants Opel to suffer the same fate.

Industry News: How Do We Fix the Nation's Recall System?
aurora97 replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
One of the other key factors for all of the recalls was to avoid the onslaught of class-action lawsuits filed by all of those thieves plaintiff lawyers around the country. I do not think that any class-action or other form of lawsuit was successfully filed against any of the Big 3 2 Auto companies because of all the recalls this year. That should be a great achievement recognized in the midst of all this chaos.- 6 replies

Detroit Auto Show: 2016 Cadillac CTS-V 640HP, 200MPH: Comments
aurora97 replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Cadillac
The front split grille needs to be all CHROME to accentuate the new emblem. If they do one of these in black with chrome wheels, a CHROME grille (not a blacked-out grille), and a manual transmission, then this thing would be perfect. -

95% awesomeness. Now give it that extra 5% to make it totally awesome with a manual transmission. -
It's a shame that the Japanese can't build sports cars today like they did 20 years ago. Acura NSX Toyota Supra Mazda RX7 Mitsubishi 3000GT Nissan 300ZX With this, only Nissan is still doing the 370z/GT-R. At the very least, this re-launch may increase the value of the older NSX models.

Chevrolet News:Corvette Stingray Design To Influence Future Models
aurora97 replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
As much as I love Chevrolet and the Corvette, this development begs the question; Why buy a Corvette? This will make the Corvette look like a Malibu and not make a Malibu look like a Corvette. A Corvette buyer will not want to spend $50k+ for something that will resemble an econobox.- 11 replies

I'll call it a station wagon....and Monica Bellucci can be the hot soccer mom driving it. For some strange reason that last picture reminds me of her...a pair of big, curvy......

I wonder if Monica Bellucci will be a "no-cost" option if you buy the car. I'd upload a picture of her, but my choices might be NSFW.- 7 replies

Chevrolet News:Rumorpile: End of the Line For Chevrolet SS, RHD Camaro

The reason why Holden and Ford are closing up shop in Australia is because their economy has become "too good" with a higher currency value and labor market.- 10 replies

LA Auto Show Preview: Cadillac ATS-V.R.: Comments

First sentence = me. Last sentence = me. Thanks, William. -
Apparently the ATS-V.R will be revealed at the L.A. Auto Show, as well.

The 3.6 TT is being used because it is a "Cadillac" engine. Otherwise, if you have the 6.2 v8 in the ATS-V, then there is no difference between it and the Camaro SS. The 7-speed manual could very well come along in the next year or two depending upon the sales ratio of auto/manual selection by the owners. Will it go racing? Will there be a sedan?

It looks much better than the outgoing CTS(V) coupe. I like it and take one with the manual transmission.

Dodge News: The Hellcat Was Almost A Dead Engine Walking
aurora97 replied to William Maley's topic in Dodge
I was at the Gas Monkey/Dodge/Motley Crue event in Dallas last weekend. One of the many things Dodge had was running 1/16th mile "ride along sprints" in Challengers and Chargers. They were running burnouts and full-throttle launches in a mock-up drag strip for 6 hours straight. Apart from the standard breaks for fill-ups, tire changes, and computer tuning, the cars were operating at 110% the whole time. The line was 2 hours long to experience a 20 second "ride" in the car and it was worth every minute of the wait. Needless to say, the engine and the car is a SOLID BEAST and now I really, really, really, really want a Charger. Between all of the R&D and marketing that Dodge has put behind making and selling these cars, you can bet that they are putting all of their other resources to keep up the quality and reputation of the Hellcat both on and off the track.- 9 replies

It's getting there. But it is not as impressive in the photos as the new M4 I saw in-person at the grocery store parking lot today. Let's see how that match-up stacks up in a Car & Driver comparison.- 25 replies
