  1. I heard an interview on TV yesterday with oil tycoon Boone Pickens, and he said that global oil production is currently peaking at 85 million barrels per day, and that demand is still not quenched by this supply. Because of this, the price of oil will continue to increase. I think that some more supply might be squeezed out in the next decade, but regardless, I may be one of the few that hopes the price of oil continues to increase. I can afford to pay $6 per gallon of gas, that may seem selfish, but I feel like that is the best thing for this country. The best motivation for development of alternative fuels is financial motivation, people will only take electric-only vehicles such as the Volt seriously when it affects their pocketbook. I think we are on the verge of the electric car boom (similar to the internet boom of the 90's), and I think by 2017 that there will be a great deal of electric cars on the road. The sooner America can get over our oil addiction, the better. $200 per barrel of oil is probably the fastest and best way to wean ourselves, let the market drive electric car development.
  2. What is the name of that shade of orange?
  3. any update on this?
  4. you might want to try www.ls1gto.com , it's a nice technical resource.
  5. I vote for renting.
  6. The G8 will be to performance buyers what the Prius was to environmentalists. The G8 GT is rated at 360hp, but makes a neck-snapping 390 ft-lbs of torque. The L92 is a great engine for modification - I'm talking 500hp to the wheels with a new cam, headers and some bolt-ons. This car will have a cult following similar to 4th gen f-bodies. GM is doing more for 'car guys' than any other company.
  7. Anybody that buys this car without an LSD is an idiot.
  8. I didn't fully realize until I read this, how comprehensive GM's vehicle lineup is. You guys find a car in every segment that's better than a GM offering, but every example is from a different company. You compare the Malibu to something from Toyota, the Enclave to something from Mazda, the CTS to something from BMW or Infiniti, and there is no equal to GM's truck offerings. I think that says alot of good things about GM and its future. I would love to see somebody try to show one manufacturer that is better than GM across their entire lineup.
  9. You guys are underestimating the impact of the G8, it's going to do very well. (has production started yet ?- I'm assuming we'll see them in the US in December)
  10. I went to college there for a couple of years, it's in the middle of nowhere.
  11. That's the big reason why sales will be down - $h!ty real estate markets nationwide.
  12. vonveezelsnider: Can you post the link to the actual thread?
  13. This car is really going to put the fwd-sport compact crowd on notice. This will be another hit for GM. I just wish GM had an AWD version to compete in the rally crowd.
  14. Every week I hear about another 'voluntary recall type action' for any one of Toyota's vehicles, whether it be tailgates falling off Tundra's, bad welding on Sienna's, etc... Toyota's got problems, and they don't make a single exciting vehicle. Lexus tries, but you can tell they don't believe in true performance in their hearts.
  15. I don't know how serious you are about GTO's and performance, but you might want to think about the '05 models with 6.0L LS2 and 50 extra hp.
  16. When will G8's be at dealerships ready for purchase?
  17. Solstice + v8 = sex
  18. So you're saying that Al Gore cheapens the peace prize but that Yasser Arafat's selection adds to the prestige of the award?
  19. it's just speculation
  20. It's astounding to look at the different directions Al Gore and George W Bush have taken in the last 7 years.
  21. The skip shift is only active if you're loafing around, above 4000rpms it doesn't activate. But yes, I do drive my cars hard, problem is that they usually have problems before I bought 'em. I've just never been impressed the GM's T56's.
  22. I don't understand your comment.
  23. That asshole deleted my comment about GM sales going up and Toyota sales going down.
  24. Here are my thoughts: 1) Nobody panic, This car will have a manual transmission. Every magazine article I've read, including this month's Motor Trend, report that the car will have a manual. It's overseas brethren have manual options, there will be a manual, do not panic 2) Maybe you guys didn't know, but GM's T56's suck. I've never had one with more than 50k miles that didn't have at least one gear with a problem. These transmissions are nothing to brag about. The new automatics are very nice( we're not talking about the old 4 speed 4L60 slush boxes anymore), and are nothing to be ashamed of. Besides, everybody knows auto's are better for drag racing. 3) I too am curious about this engine. Where did the HP go? The LS2 is 6.0L and makes 400hp, the L92/LS3 is 6.2L and makes up to 436hp. Why is this one only 360ish? Is this just GM under-rating the engine or does this car have truck-style cylinder heads on it. If that is the case, expect some very friendly modification options. 4) You can turn that off with a $23 part, and 5 minutes: http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp?i...86&catid=58 You're welcome.5) As long as there are no dealer mark-ups, this G8 will be a big seller. I'm seriously thinking about trading in my wife's '06 GTO on this thing.
