GM Slash's 30,000 jobs and 12 plants by end 2006
Polish_Kris replied to G. David Felt's topic in General Motors
Buddy, this has been posted already. -
I'm not saying its funny, I'm saying its funny that Canada's economy is going up meanwhile the great giant United States will be beat by Canada economically, by funny, I mean "wow"
-
I know that was a harsh comparisson, I'm just relating to what FOG is saying, he's doing finger pointing instead of looking at the big picture.

What car do you drive???

[quote name='Chevysnumberone' date='Nov 21 2005, 03:56 PM'] [quote name='Polish_Kris' date='Nov 21 2005, 11:11 AM'] The UAW has allot to do with this. GM had to cut costs to accompony the UAW's needs. Therefore quality did go down, because they had to buy cheaper parts, therefore, reliability goes down, and resale value, its a whole ripple effect. That's why people went for the Japs. And that is what brought down the American Auto Industry. If GM did not have to worry about the UAW, they would spend billions more into PRODUCT instead of politics. [post="46054"][/post] ` the fault is ours the public for believing everythang nagative Magazine put out about Gm poducts, and people buying toyotas,Hondas, and other foreign autos and trucks I am 58year old union man and i have been around awhile ,to see what has happen To GM and Ford. Just stop and think how bed this is going to be 30,000 Fathers and mothers and grown kid won"t be able to buy future GM car and Trucks now that is going to hurt! [post="46222"][/post] [/quote] Oh I know that, same crap is happening back in my native Poland, where Polish businesses are selling themselves off to foreign investors. People are getting layed off. America is turning into a mess too. It's pretty funny, from what I heard from people who study economics, that in twenty years Canada's economy will be better than the U.S's.

I truly doubt that your conspiracy theory is correct. If the media controlled the car market, they would be very pro american! Just like they are with this dumb war in Iraq, and product placements in movies.... etc... So, don't the gun and start accusing the media automatically. I think it's hard for you to swallow the fact that GM is in trouble now because of its poor management, and forcing the public their "gotta have" cars, shoving them down their throats. So you start playing the blame game. You're doing the same thing the KKK does, by saying its the black people's fault why America is the way it is. And the same thing Hitler did in Nazi Germany, but saying "It's the fault of the Jews why Germany is in ruins" You're pointing fingers at the media and the imports. "It's their fault". No, I said it once and I'll say it again, it's GM's own fault why this is happening! It's easy to blame others, instead of solving the problem. GM needs to get rid of those 70 year old white guys who run it and take more control over the UAW unions who, and start the company on a fresh note.
-
Here we go again............ <_<
-
Exacally! what I'm saying! Some people on this board should stop blaming the imports for GM's problems!
-
They can't do that, because they can't afford it. The have to spend the money they would have on product, on the UAW.

Not suprised, I knew this would happen. It's pretty sad, if you put yourself in these people's shoes. Who are losing their jobs because of their employer's stupidity. Mainly their union the UAW/CAW who are making GM spend more than they make. So what's the point of this union anyways??? It's not protecting it's workers, cause now 30,000 of them wont have jobs! I go to school in Oshawa, and I know there will be allot of sad faces walking around the campus soon.

I've asked about that spare tire issue at an autoshow. The rep stopped me and showed me that you can take it out and there are latches where you can mount it on the side of the bed.

Oh yah, do you remember the 80's Oldsmobile commercials, I think it went "If you can find a better car, they buy it" Now that was bad lol.... and sadly people did, they went for Honda, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
-
It's not meant to be a luxury car, it's meant to be a sporty, entry level sedan. The dashboard is cool I guess, like the heads up display the GTPs used to have.
-
That was the whole point of the ridgeline

Toyota is a diabolically smart company, they would figure something out.

Wow, for a hip-hop video, the girls have allot of clothes on. lol. Oh, I forgot, this is a rated G TV spot.

The 1.6 EL came out in 1997 as a replacement for the slow selling Intergra sedan in Canada. I remember I was 14 at the time. The brouchure that I ordered stated "Built in Canada, for Canadian drivers". Indeed the first gen was actually a good looking package. This is back when Hondas were nice, and driving a Civic was fun, mainly due to their double-wishbone suspension. The EL has been always more than a dressed up Civic. You were basically buying a Civic SI in a four door trim. This included things like four wheel disc brakes and the VTEC motor from the SI. IMO the prev gen EL was ruined, mainly because the prev gen Civic I truly did not like. This on the other hand is nice. They went back to the tail lights the first gen EL had, which were nice. The front nose is better than the Civic. If you ever take a spin in an EL. You would find it pretty cool. These are one of the cars that make you think "this is what the Civic should be" same with the TSX "This is what the Accord should be in North America" not what they have now.

Ok, you alwyas think you're so smart with your comments. How do you know the Solstice is a better car? Maybe it is, maybe it isnt. But you are so quick to judge, of whatever has the GM badge on it, must be good, and as soon as something wrong is said about it, you go crying "ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!!ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!!ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!!ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!!ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!!ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!! ITS THE MEDIA!!!!, weee, weee, weee mommy!" Relax man, yes the Solstice is a nicer looking car in person, and on the road. I personally think the current Miata looks kind of weird. But that doesn't mean Car&Driver is automatically bias because it's a domestic. Oh, you think you're such a philosopher, pick up the current issue and READ it! They placed the Accord above the Ford. However, the Ford came above the acclaimed Sonata and the Camry. And GM and Ford are not in trouble because of media bias. They are in trouble because many baby boomer are retiring who work for the UAW, are going on retirement. And unlike here in Canada where the gov't pays the pensions. In the US, the private sector who they worked for must pay the pensions. That's allot of money. Plus other issues. But not your self-invented media bias! I'm not fan of any company, I am a car guy, you, my friend, are a overprotective GM freak, who jumps to conclusions to quickly before even listening completely through.

Why do so many of you cry as soon as a car magazine rates a GM products below something else? I have the issue, and I read the comparo, and I thought it was pretty fair. There is a quote in there that says when you rev the ecotec, it feels like you are hurting it. Well that is true, because I have driven many Ecotecs and it does sound thrashy. In the same issue, there is a sedan comparo, and the Ford Fusion took second place, and the Camry was placed last. Because they felt the car has no emotion, and I agree. Do you see me crying? no. So relax a bit. And I felt the Corvette and the Viper comparo was fair too. The Vette is nice, except for that generic steering, it kind of bugs me.

If they do, then there is not going to be much change. It will remain GM, same cars, just more joint ventures. Or what they will do is change the name. And they will change the UAW contracts, or abolish it altogether (the UAW at the GM plants). The name could change to GM-Toyota, or something or a rather. I don't know. They will have to restructure the brands. They will keep Pontiac, Chevy of course, Buick and Cadillac. They will get rid of floater models like the Renevous, and cut down on the GMT-360's, leaving it only upto GMC to market them. Who knows. All I know is bankruptcy is inevidable for the General. And I think Toyota has been keeping an eye on them for a while.
-
My bets are on Toyota, since the very beginning. They are the company with the most money, and know how GM works the most. I could be wrong, but that is just my prediction.
-
Well everyone has their likes and dislikes. Just like you may think any GM product is the best in the world.

GM needs new management, just like Canada needs a new Prime Minister! lol :P :CanadaEmoticon:
