Nice lineup!! With no seeming DOHC V8 coming for Cadillac as a mid range CTS V8 this would be a good way to introduce the OHV V8 into future non V Cadillac models!---Nice going!
-
((Amen!!)) The loss of the affordable mid sized RWD models from GM/Ford ect. as they tried to PUSH us into FWD replacements forced us into Trucks! Now there is a chance to offer some nice RWD products again and they continue to push the inferior FWD models as before! Will they ever learn and admit their mistakes? I doubt it!

These tiny engines are coming! GM has the engines to do something like that today. With the same bore and stroke they could do a lineup like this. 2.0L DI Turbo I4. 260HP 260T. 3.0L DI Turbo V6. 320HP 320T. 3.9L DI Turbo V8. 380HP 380T. This could be a Cadillac line of engines due to their larger size. Then with differing Bores and strokes they could do a Chevrolet line. 1.5L DI Turbo I4 200HP 220T 2,5L DI Turbo V6 260HP 280T And so on. Buick could be. 1.8L DI Turbo I4 225HP 240T 2.8L DI Turbo V6 285HP 300T 3.8L DI Turbo V8 345HP 360T. I would like to see different engine lines for the main stream GM sedans done like this both related yet different from one another. Trucks and Muscle/Sports cars could be larger then these yet smaller with DI and Turbo then today's SB V8's

An old friend of mine had one in his 95 Caprice. It worked well and gave great fuel efficiency. It was smooth and superior to the earlier 5.0L V8 in feel and sound.

As long as they dont offer it with the V8 only they way Pontiac was going to they could replace the out dated small trucks with a 3.0L V6 base stripper version. This could be GREAT!! Have a base 3.0L WT opt 3.6L LT & LTZ then a 350HP version of the 5.3L V8 as a non SS,LTZ model then offer the most powerful NA 6.2L as the SS. Do 2dr and 4dr versions with the above mentioned mid gate on the 4dr models! The return of the El Camino baby!!!
-
It worked for Aston Martin and the Ford 3.0L V6 source.

I dont disagree with you on the power front and I would like your refinements on my proposed Cadillac engine lineup above. It seems Cadillac needs something unique from other GM brands to be premium in scope and image!

I could see an entire line of Cadillac exclusive engines with Cam-in-Cam SOHC heads using AFM and DI. Take the still built 3.9L ohv 60 degree V6 and replace the heads with these and according intake. Use that to replace the 3.6L HFV6 in Cadillac's lineup then do a SB based 4.9L V8 C-in-C SOHC and then a larger 5.9L V8 version for premium Cadillac models. A unique New CADILLAC Engine line using mostly existing components to save cost. Let the 3.0-3.6L HFV6 be used for Chevrolet and Buick models allowing Cadillac something unique to offer! CTS. 3.9L 330HP Cam-in-Cam SOHC V6 std. 4.9L 400HP C-in-C-----SOHC V8 opt. XTS 3.9L 330HP C-in-C-----SOHC V6. Replacement STS 3.9L 330HP C-in-C-----SOHC V6 std. 4.9L 400HP C-in-C-----SOHC V8 opt. STS Plus/LWB 4.9L 400HP C-in-C-----SOHC V8 std. 5.9L 475HP C-in-C-----SOHC V8 opt.

Interesting idea!!

I would love a Cadillac exclusive V8 engine. Due to the snob appeal of the competitors DOHC V8's that would be the most likely answer for Cadillac. So with that why not do DOHC heads for the small block with DI and a next gen AFM system using the next gen block? This could be unique from the Chevrolet truck/car SB's OHV configuration and also be a premium GMC Denali package opt along with a higher performance opt Corvette model. With a 5.5L 425HP version as the opt non V engine in the next CTS and a more powerful 6.0L version for the top end Cadillac sedan model this could work.

I would like to see a base 2.0L DI Turbo I4 in the base ATS making no less then 300HP! That would one up BMW by having a 300HP base engine! Then do a 3.0L DI Turbo V6 with 360+HP and up from there. They could use the 3.0T in the next base CTS with a 3.6T as an opt being there is no non V model V8's it seems. I wish they could do DOHC DI heads for the SB V8 to replace the Northstar but nothing seems to be happening in that direction. Dont just compete GM but BLOW THEM AWAY in every segment with a turbo I4 with the same HP as their I6 and so on!

((Wonderful!!))

With so many less brands within GM these days why not return to unique size engines for those brands? My thought would be like the Ecoboost line at Ford but unique to each brand. Say Chevrolet uses an efficient 1.5L DI Turbo I4 and a 2.5L Di Turbo V6 to replace today's larger normally aspirated engines? While Buick does a 1.8L DI Turbo I4 and a 2.8L DI Turbo V6 and a 3.8L like V8. That would let Cadillac use a more premium 2.0L DI Turbo I4 and a like 3.0L V6 and even a 4.0L DI Turbo V8? They could keep the SB V8 advanced with DI and other tech for trucks and performance cars while using the smaller DI and Turbo engines listed above for standard and luxury car models.
-
They should have kept the 260HP & 260FT,LB of Torque from the 2.0L DI Turbo I4 for the Regal! The 220HP version seems to be no more efficient then the more powerful version so why change it?
-
My first was a 1950 2dr Hardtop with a Powerglide. I miss that car!
-
Thats the best explanation I have seen yet of how the Volt system works!---((BRAVO!!))
-
I hope they restore that to lovely and pristine condition! One more Tucker would be a wonderful thing as rare as they are!

You could not be more correct my friend!!! -

This is nothing more then fixing a WRONG that was done to the American education system many years ago by early 1900's progressives. They are the ones who changed history because of an AGENDA this is nothing more then fixing THAT injustice!! I say its ABOUT TIME!!! -
I hope this tech is not lost. If Chrysler does nothing with it then GM should!
-
I had forgotten about that Viper camshaft thing being so advanced. If this could be done to the next gen small block in V6 and V8 versions. I could see a new DI and AFM OHV Cadillac engine line of slower turning, large sized for torque and efficient power. The serge of torque would be like American cars of old and unlike the Asian or European brands and uniquely American as Cadillac should be!
-
The problem that I have seen throughout the years is larger engined cars 1970's with mid-range gearing was replaced with smaller engined ones 1980's with less efficient lower gearing. Then the 1990's came along and cars got heavier so the smaller engines where replaced with larger ones while keeping the same inefficient gearing. 3.0L V6's became 3.5L V6's and 4.0L V8's became 4.5L's and then in the early 2000's cars got heavier still all the while keeping the same low and inefficient gearing. Only rarely has someone built a mid to large torquey engined car with high gearing allowing the engine to turn slower and in turn be more efficient. The Chevrolet Caprice was one example that had great fuel economy for its size in the real world. Replacing todays DOHC 3.6L V6 in the Cadillac CTS with a slower turning OHV 4.5L-or-4.7L V6 with higher gearing to deliver like performance would be more efficient. The Domestic makes have been to Euro/Asian in there thinking with DOHC and lower gearing and in turn actually lost our efficiency advantage over all. In Asia and Europe they built smaller engines due to tax reasons among others so a lower gearing was needed to make up for the lack of Torque from those smaller engines. DOHC and 4VPC was used again to make up for the engines smaller size and that allowed for higher revving with the lower gearing a prefect match. In our attempting to be like them with our traditionally larger models we have lost what could have been a real world advantage in fuel economy.

That "serene" V8's 450HP and 432FT,LB of Torque would be out right killer compared to its competitors as would a 335HP and 315T large yet efficient serene V6 with the same Bore/Stroke! Cadillac would be KING for years to come when it comes to power without the cost of a new, expensive and less efficient DOHC V8 while letting Buick and Chevrolet use the 3.0L-3.6L HFV6. Return Cadillac to something uniquely American in focus and purpose with this new SERENE Engine line!!!
-
I think you should have kept the Cadillac "serene" V8 being they need it badly in there lineup. With the death of the Northstar and the CTS needing something between the V6 models and the V series along with an engine for the upcoming large Cadillac beyond the XTS its needed. And with the worries about fuel economy a smaller displacement and supercharged version could be done like todays 6.2L is at say 5.0L's and 475-500HP for the Vette and top Camaro. And I still like the idea of a related large capacity V6 version for Cadillac more premium in scope then the truck version. Like the OHV Bentley 6.75L V8 thats continually refined and developed a refined, quiet and torquey Cadillac OHV line of engines would be majestic and unique in the luxury car market. Some people would scoff at an OHV Cadillac engine thinking DOHC is superior until they drove one and felt its surge of low end torque that would be uniquely American in nature as Cadillac should be. I like you believe there is still a place for the venerable OHV tech using modern DI AFM ect in more then only trucks and Cadillac would be that place.
-
If you do a 6.0L V8 for the trucks that would translate to a 4.5L V6 and a 3.0L I4 that would sound better and space apart better also. I thought of this 4.5L V6 as a replacement for the aging 4.3L V6 long ago as they came out with today's 6.0L SB. I like your idea of a OHV I4 also and as a new and compact line of truck engines they could work great. For car usage I could also see a 5.5L V8 both supercharged and not and with it a premium 6.0L 3VPC version specially tuned for smoothness and quietness for Cadillac. And thinking beyond that and to offer Cadillac a unique line of engines do a premium 4.5L 3VPC V6 version for them also as a more torquey and most likely more efficient with AFM replacement for the 3.6L V6. Let Cadillac be something unique and be powered by something unique from other GM brands.---Again I like the way you think!!
