The first Kia Stinger in the UK, a homologation test car, was saved from the crusher. As a pre-production car, it couldn't be sold to the public. As it sat in Kia's headquarters showroom, the Product and Press relations team were scheming up ways to keep the HiChroma Red GT S. After all, during its testing, it has racked up 10,000 miles, an unusually high amount for a test mule. Instead of being sent to the crusher, Kia brought in an engineering team from Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The team upgraded the Twin Turbo V6 from 365 hp to 422 hp and peak torque from 376 lb-ft to 413 lb-ft. They replaced the exhaust with a lightweight Milltek Sport exhaust with cats removed. An upgraded transmission cooler was added. and the transmission was recalibrated for quicker shifting in Sport and Sport+ mode. The team then "Added lightness" to the car by removal of all unneeded weight. Interior trim, airbags, engine cover, rear bumper beam were all removed. The rear windows were glued in place and lightweight door cards added. After the needed safety equipment and underbody stiffening were installed, the net weight reduction came to about 331 lbs off the stock car. Once the mechanical modifications were complete, the team added a Stillen front splitter and a rear spoiler, and a body wrap that advertises the racing specs and the GT420 name. There are no plans to build such a car from Kia, but it is an interesting study of what can be done with a car that is otherwise headed to the crusher. View full article

Nissan News: Nissan Profit Plunges 99%; 12,500 Job Cuts Eminent

We first saw a rendering of the forthcoming Fisker SUV back in March of this year. Now Fisker is releasing some photos of the concept and a few more details. The front end of the Fisker SUV looks mildly like a Land Rover if you stare at the headlights long enough. Along the side are retracting door handles and an interesting D-Pillar turn-signal repeater. Fisker has previously shown the SUV with a solar roof to help with charging. Fisker says the SUV will start under $40,000 and have a range over 300 miles per charge. They are also claiming that the vehicle will be the most sustainable vehicle available with many of the parts being made from recycled materials. For now, the look of the interior is a secret until its official unveiling later this year. Fisker hopes to have the SUV on the road in 2021. View full article

Indeed.... I wouldn't buy the 2019 due to its looks, this one looks better. The interior looks largely the same though. -

The Pacifica had those trims before. They're just separating the lower end trims from the Pacifica. They are dropping the base price by about $2,000, so I'm sure some content is coming out of it.- 29 replies

I think @Paolino doesn't really like SUVs. At least no one told him to lease a new mid-size.

Voyager is just the lowest trim of a Pacifica. They use the same body.- 29 replies

It's not brake by wire. It's electric assist in place of vacuum assist. The 2.0t seems to be the base engine in everything now. -

I never understood why they killed the first Pacifica. It might have been a little ahead of it's time for a crossover that size. The Aspen was just ugly.- 29 replies

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Silverado Diesel Gets 33mpg Highway
Drew Dowdell replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
Probably never. It is likely too long to be mounded in there. I don't see how they'd fit another two cylinders in there. I gotta say, for the little amount they are charging for the upgrade to diesel. As long as you're not looking for raw speed, the diesel might be the best choice of engine for this truck. 460 lb-ft of torque plus a 10-speed should still hustle it along pretty good.- 38 replies

Cadillac's XT5 is getting a refresh for 2020 that brings it into alignment with the looks of the rest of the brand like the recently introduced CT4 and CT5. The base trim for XT5 is the Luxury model. From there, Cadillac uses a "Y" strategy and splits the upper trims into Sport and Premium Luxury. Either can also be equipped with a Platinum package for the best technology and interior available in XT5. Premium Luxury puts an emphasis on brighter trims while the Sport takes a darker, more aggressive stance. Luxury and Premium Luxury are tuned more towards the soft side while Sport models get a more performance tuned chassis and quicker steering control. The Sport model gets a standard dual-clutch AWD system, Active Yaw control, and Continuous Damping Control adaptive suspension. LED headlamps with IntelliBeam are now standard on all models. Inside, the XT5 gets the latest version of Cadillac CUE (which they are no longer calling CUE), with more connectivity and personalization. This can be controlled either by touch or by a rotary controller in the center console. Drivers can easily pair their phone using NFC technology. Two new high-def instrument cluster options are now available. Under the hood, a new base engine takes up residence. The 2.0T with 237 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque that are in the XT4 and CT4 is now mated to a nine-speed automatic. The 3.6L V6 with 310 horsepower is still available, now also upgraded to the 9-speed auto. Both engines have active fuel management and automatic start/stop to boost efficiency. XT5s with the 2.0T will have a new electronic braking control system that replaces the conventional vacuum assisted power brakes. A compact electric motor replaces the traditional vacuum booster to reduce parasitic engine drag. The 2020 Cadillac XT5 will arrive later this summer. View full article
